《I can summon my past lives》04- "This is truly salvation indeed"

After Damon put the bottle on the table between them, he sat back and enjoyed the show.
He watched as the old man Arthur Drake took the bottle with trembling hands.
"What's going on? He looks like he is about to be hanged." exclaimed Damon in his head.
"Hehehe. This old man thinks that we are from a cult. He was so scared that I almost laughed out loud. I wish I could also be scared like that someday. Ah, how I envy mortals!" Jata's voice was heard in Damon's mind.
"I told you two that we'd look shady if we wore these black robes." said Damon.
Old Man Mad Pill then said, "The main purpose is to create mystery around you. You must remain an untouchable and mysterious existence to these mortals. When the time comes for you to train your own army of cultivators by creating a sect or a school of cultivation, the changes you will bestow upon this world will be accepted more easily than you imposing your will upon others. Who knows you might eventually gain some trustworthy individuals."
"Can this Arthur see the future? What's the difference between a cult and what we will be doing?" Damon asked.
"We're not a cult. I used to do this all the time in my early days. Nurturing your own force is easy if you do not have to worry about powerful sneaky spies who will turn your plans into shambles. You're lucky. Here, everyone with ill intent will be too afraid of you to try and do anything. Well, we can't discard the crazy ones...but oh well, forget what I said. With us two around you'll have nothing to worry about as you grow into your power." Mad Pill said.
Arthur Drake had felt that he had used all his strength to open the cork of the transparent bottle. He could see clearly that they were pills, but he had a hard time not thinking that they were poisonous despite their white pristine color.
As he opened the cork, the entire room was filled with an aroma. The aroma, to the old him, was enticing. He felt younger again. 'What would it be like if he ate one of the pills?' he thought.
Damon then said, "Go on. What are you waiting for? I give you permission to test one of the pills."
As if he was granted amnesty from the urge he felt about emptying the whole bottle into his mouth, he took out one pill and then closed the bottle and put it on the table while eating the pill in his other hand.
As the pill arrived in his stomach Arthur felt himself levitating from his chair. The ceiling blew up. Fortunately there was no floor above them.
The surroundings around the Merchant Union felt the tremor. All the guards ran to the third floor.
Rudolph who was far away with Chief Constable Edmund saw the third floor blowing up and then he ran towards the building without saying a word as he imagined the worst.
Chief Constable was even more curious that such a thing had happened in his jurisdiction, 'Those explosives must've been assembled inside the city. There's no way the thorough check at the city gates could have let such dangerous substances enter inside the city." He ran after Rudolph with a serious face as he made eye contact with the five constables behind him to hurry.

On the third floor, a holy light shone on a man who was floating in the air.
When the guards had arrived in the dilapidated room, a strange scene that they would never forget for their whole life greeted them.
Three hooded figures could be seen sitting on the only piece of furniture that hadn't been destroyed in the room.
In the air there was a man who defied gravity, shrouded in a holy light, his features unknown.
In a world where the mention of God was heresy because most of those so called prophets had been proved to be nothing but profiteers who exploited and preyed on the weak to further their own sinister agenda.
Now, all the stories they had heard of beings made of light who commanded the elements started appearing in their minds. Those bedtime stories about monsters who would eat them in their sleep if they disobeyed their parents...everything came crashing in their minds like a beast stampede.
Ultimately, fear overtook them.
They couldn't move.
Some had defecated themselves already while others had fainted.
Of the thirteen guards that had arrived in the room, none was spared from fear.
Smelling the foul stench in the room, Damon turned to look at the origin behind him and saw a scene that scared him.
Seeing one of the three unfathomable beings turn to look at them, the ones who had grasped on the little sanity that they had left, finally fainted as well.
"How long is Arthur's transformation gonna take? See what we did? This is a huge blow for these mortals. If they are this scared about a 'trivial Rebirth Pill' like you said, what do you plan to do?" Damon said.
Mad Pill then said, "Humph, we won't have to do a single thing. When that old guy has finished his rebirth he will be the proof we need to show our capabilities. In fact, he will do the job you're afraid of for us."
"AHAHAHAHA. YES. I AM NOW GOD. I AM MORTAL NO LONGER. HAHAHAHAHAHA." The voice of a young man was heard coming from the light in the sky that was receding.
"Is he delusional now?" A puzzled Damon asked.
Mad Pill shook his head, "On this planet of mortals, without us being here, he would indeed be considered like a god, but I consider him a low level cultivator, that I would consider shameful on my part to kill with even my sneeze."
"What level could he be considered at?" A curious Damon asked.
"Since no one had told him how to build his core, the Rebirth Pill pushed him all the way to False Core Formation. If he snaps out of his delusion and doesn't try to extort us, I might teach him a thing or two. The rest will depend on him as to how far he can get, but with the lack of resources he'll barely reach Late stage Core Formation in a few hundred years." Mad Pill said.
A young Arthur Drake then descended from the skies as if he could control his flight.
When he arrived before the three hooded figures, he was brought to reality. Instantly, he felt like a mortal again. He could feel his own power coursing through his veins, but when it came to these three hooded figures he felt nothing coming from them which told him two things. Firstly, they must be even stronger than him, so strong that he wasn't qualified to feel their strength. Secondly, that pill must be trash to them. If it wasn't, why would they come all this way to sell them instead of using the pills for themselves?

Each revelation left his mind reeling. He discarded his delusions to the side and then said, "This is truly salvation indeed! What can I do for you?"
"Smart boy." thought Mad Pill completely forgetting that the teenager in front of him was an old man a few minutes prior.
"Give us all the Gold that you can give us and we shall be on our way. You can do what you want with the remaining eleven pills." Said Damon.
Arthur was speechless. He was expecting for them to introduce themselves as Gods who had come to the mundane world to teach about immortality and needed him to pass the word around so that many people knew of their existence as that they couldn't possibly do such a task with their esteemed identities.
Gold? Really?
What for?
These Celestial beings needed gold? Are you kidding me?
I could get such godly pills with Gold?
Nevertheless, he composed himself and then said, "Please follow me to our treasury, I will give you all the gold I have available."
They went past the guards who had fainted, and then descended to the lowest floor, tens of meters below the ground. On the way, anyone who tried to stop them was swiftly put to sleep by Arthur who was getting used to his divine sense.
No one recognized Arthur, nor should they.
They arrived in front of a steel door several centimeters thick. It was blasted away to reveal a gold light.
There were gold overflowing coffers as far as the eye could see.
Damon waved his hand and all the gold was sucked into a spatial ring that Mad Pill had taken out of his Soul Realm for him previously.
"The transaction has been made. We will now be excusing ourselves." Damon said as he turned around to leave. He saw the unwilling look that Arthur gave him. It seemed the latter was expecting more from them.
Damon thought for a bit and then said, "Well...this world is about to change and you'll be the first we will find to help us further our plan. You will be our spokesperson so to speak. Find trustworthy individuals, have them use the pills and please don't keep what happened today a secret. We do not care what you say about us."
Jata then teleported them in some empty alley several streets away from The Merchant Union.
"Let's find an inn to pass the night. You both can go back to being invisible. Further plans will have to be discussed tomorrow, the day has been long for me, I am mentally tired." Damon said as he took off the black robe to reveal his casual clothing. He stored it in his storage ring and then left to find the nearest inn after retrieving a few gold coins first.

Chief Constable Edmund listened to the guards who were rambling about gods and immortals with a calm mind.
The guards had seen the same thing. That couldn't be argued...but when it came time to ask what they had seen, everything became excessively annoying.
Who could believe these ramblings?
They couldn't have hallucinated the same thing. That was impossible. So what had really happened?
What was even more appalling was that the treasury had been robbed. There was not even one gold coin left.
Arthur Drake who had been accompanying the three suspects was nowhere to be seen as well and Chief Constable Edmund feared the worst for his friend.
Had the three suspects blown up Arthur with explosives and then used that commotion as cover to steal the entire treasury with their friends hidden in the surroundings?
Somehow they had managed to acquire millions of gold coins with no one being the wiser in under ten minutes.
That feat was godly. These were godly thieves.
If it wasn't like that then what should I believe happened?
Edmund was sitting on the very same piece of furniture that the trio had been sitting on. He sat on it to not be scared as nothing could explain how the entire room was destroyed except for this chair.
He wanted to find some residue of the explosives, but after combing the whole destroyed place he found nothing. He was so persuaded that the chair in the middle of the room held some kind of secret.
As he was slowly delving into madness, he heard the voice of a young man coming from the sky.
"Hey, Old Edmund. It's not like you to lose your mind so easily." it was Arthur who had come back after indulging into a long flight that felt as if he was dreaming. In fact he was afraid that he was dreaming all along. If not for crashing against a mountain and feeling the pain as his wounds closed, he would've tried to keep dreaming forever if he could.
Now that dream had become reality.
Edmund fell on his behind and his face looked white as he said with a trembling voice, "Who...what are.y..you?"
"Remember that portrait above the fireplace in my house? I should look a little bit like that." Said Arthur with a smile.
When Edmund saw the face under the torch light, his eyes widened. Two faces interposed in his mind as he had a revelation, "What happened to you? Why do you look so young?" If it wasn't for the chilly night breeze that came through what had once been a ceiling, he'd have thought he was dreaming.
"Hehe...Let me tell you an incredible story about...Salvation."

The Last Marshal
Weird West Fantasy Noir Once the Republic Marshals brought order to the chaotic lands along the Frontier, facing dangers both human and supernatural with ancient wisdom and a six-gun —but that was a long time ago. Destroyed by conspiracy and betrayal, all that remains of that secretive order is one nameless man on a trek though the West seeking revenge on the woman he blames for the Marshals' fall and his disgrace. When a visitor from our world joins him on his journey, they together must confront the horrors of a strange land, the mysteries of the past and the real meaning of their quest for justice. The world of Tellus is what 19th Century Earth would have looked like if the stories of Poe, Ambrose Bierce, Lovecraft and William Hope Hodgeson were real. History in this world moves slower. The old faiths persist and civilization never conquered the dark corners of the map, at least not without being inextricably changed. Technology and culture takes a little longer to evolve in this land, as people here tend to spend more time pursuing their elaborate revenge plots or trying to avoid being the next sacrifice to the Outer Gods rather than advancing science or statecraft. Imagine Cormac McCarthy by way of Edgar Rice Burroughs, though a little less testosterone-drenched than that description would imply. Three caveats: First, there are deep mysteries here, including how such a world came to be and who controls it. Second, this world is not wholly unconnected from our own. There is a historical point of divergence, but in the distant past. To paraphrase Twain: history in this world is not a repeat of our own, but it does often rhyme. And finally, this is not a setting that lends itself to happy endings.
