《Promise》Chapter 10: The unexpected

Allan, Maria and Liam were in position. Liam had already told them what to do as he was considered to be the leader of this group for now. Liam with his experience of practicing MMA for 5 years now would go first, disarming the man and putting him into a choke hold, Allan and Maria would then come in and deliver the killing blow.
And just like how they had planned, Liam went on ahead alone, sneaking around the swordsman without him noticing, by slowly crawling under the tall grass then behind rocks, it was slow and extremely stressful to all of them, one wrong move, one loud noise and it might all end in hell fire. Things were going fine until something unexpected happened, while staying behind watching Liam getting closer and closer to the striking distance, Maria and Allan felt something strange passing by the legs while they were laying low, and when they looked down, a 2 meter long snake with red scales and white and black stripes. Their faces were as pale as paper and their eyes were wide open. They instinctively tried to scream at the top of their lungs, but before a sound could come out, their hands had covered their mouths, shutting close. They knew if they screamed, they would give their position away and that would be the end for all they knew. So though their eyes were starting to be filled by tears and their hands were shaking, they did make a sound. They did not move either, just watching the snake and hoping it would just go away as soon as possible. seconds seemed like hours and minutes seemed like days and finally, the snake disappeared into the grass. Allan and Maria let go of their hands, breathing heavily as if they were holding their breath this whole time, their heart still racing as if they were running a marathon. But there was no rest for the both of them, Liam had already reached his striking distance and made his move.
Quietly approaching the swordsman from the behind, Liam quickly grab hold of the swordsman wrist and elbow area, the one he was holding a sword, pull and twist his wrist almost as if breaking it in the process, making him to drop his sword as a result, then Liam tackle him down with, one hand toking control and choking his neck, preventing him from screaming.

Allan and Maria did not freeze in fear this time, although their heart was racing and their hand was still trembling, they still rushed in to help Liam without a second thought. Grabbing long pieces of wood they prepared, those to rush to Liam aid and smashing the swordsman head’s repeatedly until he did not respond anymore.
“ You could have just grabbed the sword right over there and stabbed him you know ?”, Liam whispered to them while pointing his finger to the sword right behind where Allan and Maria were standing.
“ But good job, now give that sword to me and get ready, it’s not over yet”. Liam quickly ordered them.
Luna quietly watched as Kyle sneaked behind the bowman, just like how Liam did, by crawling and staying low to the ground, hidden behind the dense tree line and under the tall grass. Then Kyle striked, one hand holding the bowman’s mouth and the other taking an arrow from him and stabbed his throat. His movement was fast as merciless, it took only seconds for the bowman to die. Luna watched in absolute shock, “ So that's how he defeated all of those men from last night” she thought. Dropping the man's dead body quitely to the ground, Kyle signaled Luna to come over. Luna carefully left her hiding spot, knowing that they were relatively close to the camp, she took no chance and quietly and sneakily made her way to Kyle. Passing by the man's dead body, Luna could still see blood pouring out of his throat from the arrow piercing through it and his dead eyes still filled with fear, she grabbed the bow on the ground, took a deep breath and continued moving.
“Now is not the time to freak out, it is time to show my courage” with that, all the shock and fear in her eyes are gone, her ruby red eyes now looking fearless and focused, it looks like the eyes of a samurai, ready for a battle to the death.
“Your turn” Kyle said to Luna, and without saying a Luna Stood upright with feet shoulder width apart, taking a deep breath, Luna drawed the bow and arrow aiming at the camp. She stood still, holding the pose for several seconds then she exhaled and released.

The arrow went like the wind, you could not even see the directory, in a blink of an eye, it hit the target. But Luna’s aim was just a bit off, she hit one of the five men in the right chest, injuring but not killing him as a result. Luna quickly reloaded and shot another arrow at them but this time without much aiming time, the arrow missed by quite a distance this time. The four uninjured men quickly reacted and started rushing toward Kyle and Allan, while the injured one tried to take cover.
“Don’t worry, take your time, make those shoots count.” Kyle said, his eyes focused on the men who were running toward them. Luna took a deep breath, calmed herself down and took her time for the third shot, waiting for them to get a little closer and then release.
“Headshot” Luna said in a calm and cold voice, and indeed it was, the arrow shot one of them right through the eye and that man fell down instantly.
The moment the first arrow injured one of those men in the camp, Liam, Allan and Maria rushing toward the camp quitely, which it was not what they would have hoped for (one of the men would have died then), it was close enough. All of them were so focused on the threat in front of them, they did not even notice the 3 of them coming from behind. Liam made quick work of the injured one, a swing of the sword was all it took, Allan then grabbed the now dead man's sword and followed closely behind Liam. All three of them showed no hesitation in their eyes or their action, it was win or die this time and they were ready to do anything to stay alive.
The three left was too close for comfort now, Kyle had to make his move,
“Hey, try not to shoot me in the head, would ya” Kyle told Luna, ``How weird”, Luna thought to herself, she could have sworn she saw him smiling just for a split second. He moved quickly, rushing to them without hesitation, like he did it a thousand times before. His eyes stared right at his opponent’s eyes, as thought Kyle could read their mind.
One swift movement of his upper body to the left, Kyle had completely evaded the attack from one of them, then he countered, he punched the attacker right in his throat, quickly took control of the arm that was holding the weapon, twisting it backward, forcing him to lose the sword.
The second man came in swinging at Kyle on his opposite side, with just a slight movement from Kyle’s hand, he repositioned the first guy that tried to attack him right onto the swing of the second guy. Kyle basically turned that man into a living shield. In a blink of an eyes, blood poured out the “living shield” and the second man sword seemingly stuck in the now “dead man shield”, and with a cold and merciless glance from Kyle, he quickly thrust his sword into the second man heart, dropping him dead in a matter of second.
Now there was only one opponent left, but he was too scared and shocked to attack Kyle now. In the matter of a few seconds, he just saw two of his comrades die in the hand of that man, that killing machine, just a couple of meters in front of him. He tried to turn around and fled but his luck ran out. A strong feeling of pain rush to his body from the behind and when he look down, a quarter of a sword could be seem pierce through his stomach, and before a he could scream in pain, it was all over, he could hear something cutting the wind and them darkness fall, his head was clean off with a swing of a sword, those came from Allan and Liam who were charging the man from the behind without them noticing.
“Grab what you can and take some rest, you earn it” Kyle said to the group. A sigh of relief to all of them to hear, everyone almost simultaneously lost all the strength to their legs dropping to the ground and breathing heavily.
