《Manaweaver》Chapter 22

The train dropped the group off at a station not too far away from the entrance to the city Anephis. They quickly made their way to the entrance with Angelina and apprentices leading the way. As she flashed a badge to the guards the finally entered where they would be attending Xavier academy.
The guards all had plate armor on covering them from head to toe and made them to look like well train knights. The city looked like an upgraded version of Ferris whether it was the size or way the buildings looked. Angelina informed that she would first show them where to find housing for the families planning to stay and then the school building that handled registration would be where the group separated.
As they were walking Angelina talked the whole time like a rehearsed speech, “The city is separated into four districts that are named based off the four cardinal directions. Each distract has their own entrance and specific function that makes the city run as a whole. The eastern section we came in from is meant to serve for housing humans and other races that are not of nobility. The northern section is separated into different guilds which are named based off their purpose like adventuring, magic, mercenary, and professions. Part of the northern district that is closest to the western district is a military base for the empire. The western district is where Xavier academy is and has everything needed for a person to live comfortably. Lastly, the Southern District is where the nobles are housed and it would be best that none of you even step into that area and be mindful of how you may address any nobles. The royal family and other high class noble families have houses there that they use when visiting the city. Also, just so everyone knows that stores can be seen in every district but what they sell may vary.”

James was too focused on the speech that he wasn’t paying attention to them passing where to get housing until finally they showed up to the academy. There was a huge gate that blocked off the school from the other districts. The road that went through the gate led to a giant building known as the admin building which dealt with the handling of the academy. Angelina described the building and its purpose to the kids as her last bit of duty bringing in the new students. They were made aware that the first floor of the main building held the shops and any party quests for the students as well as registration. From behind the building there were many other paths that lead to different sectioned off areas where a variety of classes would be held or dorms for living.
Apparently they separated students based off social class when deciding dorms which gave James a bad taste in his mouth considering this type of favoritism and segregation is what he hated the most about the empire.
‘This all is out of my control. I have to remember one day I will be able to fend for myself and can avoid these types of leeches,’ James consistently reminded himself to not get upset.
After the tour was done Angelina said her farewells to the group and reminded them for the last time to check into the admin building in two days. Susy also said some parting words to her two female friends who James came to find out were named Lucy and Annette. Emily reminded the girls to stop by if they wanted to join them for dinner that night.
James gave Arthur a quick look but again noticed him cowering away. Luna finally had a different reaction to James, and it caught him off guard when she winked at him with a mischievous grin.

‘Nobles, all completely twisted and weird,’ James thought to himself.
His family headed to the rental building back in the eastern district to find somewhere to stay. James and Susy would stop by the school the next day to get their dorms set up but for now wanted to stay with their parents.
It was a smooth transaction while the rental agent showed them pictures and a map of different houses for sale. They eventually settled for one closer to the shopping streets considering it would make things easier between finding work and taking care of daily necessities. Roy and Emily had smiles on their faces as they paid for six months of rent with the money James had given them while they saved the rest.
The house was nice and average which fit perfect for their family. It was smaller with only two floors but also nicer than their place in Othar. There were only three rooms which James had to convince them of because they would have their own dorms only a bit of a walk away. It worked for them though because if James or Susy wanted to stay with their family, they would have a room they could use.
The rest of the day was spent buying furniture and other necessities for the house which everyone took part of and enjoyed. This was another reminder of how important James’s family was too him. They eventually were all home at night enjoying a nice meal together.
After dinner Susy showed her progress with the spell wood manipulation which was making some good progress. She could now extend and create a small amount of wood made of mana to be added onto the branch in her hand. While it was not as effective as James, she could defend herself with traps, a small dagger, or a miniature shield.
The trap was something he showed her which by placing a piece of wood by the door and adding mana to it she could set it up to react to physical contact. Susy was happy to learn something new and magic related that she didn’t seem to catch the twisted smile on James while he mumbled something about spikes in Arthur’s foot.
