《Manaweaver》Chapter 9

After finding somewhere quiet and away from their parents prying eyes, James decided to speak his mind.
“Suzy I am a bit worried about your eventual class choice at the school,” he said looking straight at his sister.
“What is it? I think with the holy element as my minor affinity I can become powerful. Also the nature element should give me a good class that will help me grow stronger,” she responded with a proud look.
“So you think the school will help you in picking up a nature element class?” he asked.
“Well of course it is my major affinity after all. Isn’t that how it works?” she raised her brow when responding to James.
“What if I told you that they will try to convince you too build your class around the holy element instead?”
“What? No way! That wouldn’t make sense and I don't think would happen.” She pouted.
Sighing James responded, “Look Susy the empire wants soldiers, mages, healers, and whatever else for their own plans. They do not care what is best for you and since you have holy as a minor element it would be a no brainer for them to want a healer. It wouldn’t be the strongest spells and most likely would limit your spell choices but the holy element is already powerful by itself. If that happened though it would limit your potential, but the empire would get a support class out of you.”
Realizing he had a point she frowned. “What would you have me do James? Mom and dad do not enough money to help me and I just want to support our family. If being a healer will benefit them, I do not mind.”
Suddenly the door opened, and footsteps were heard from behind them.
“What do you have in mind James?” Emily asked walking through the doorway obviously having overheard their conversation.
“Mom I did not know you were up,” James weakly said with a guilty face.
“Do you have a better option for your sister, James? I know you have changed since you got better and I have not asked about it. There are many things unknown in this world. I will not ask that you explain your secret, but just know that I’m glad you have grown up and have a path ahead of you.” She said with a determined look.

Feeling touched James decided to share an excuse that fits. “Well, that night I got better it was like my mind and body were refreshed. It wasn’t long until I discovered I would become a mage and that was when I unlocked my class. I was afraid to say anything but after Susy got her results I just had to speak up, “ he responded weakly.
Emily looked skeptical but softened her look as he finished responding. “Yes that explains the surprise we received hearing about your ice element. It is strong and gives you both the chance to attend school together. Now what do you think is a solution for your sister? But before you give your opinion, I think you both should know a little about how this world works.”
Emily went on to tell the story of her past. She was the youngest in a branch of a noble’s family known as the Sanor house. They were founded when her ancestor Ruth Sanor became a hero and ascended to the blazing sword saintress class many years ago. She was a strong hero who with the fire element focused on enchanting her sword and body through spells. She had a kind heart and truly believed in supporting the common folk. After completing her servitude as a hero, she ended up retiring from fighting because of old age. Her family resided in the capitol Raugon but once her family no longer held power, they slowly fell from grace. Scandals, accusations, and disappearances of potentially strong family members that could reinvigorate the house, kept the Sanor house from progressing. Ruth Sanor ended up pasting away peacefully but without a strong person to lead the Sanor house they would eventually be doomed. Years later her aunt was found to have a minor affinity for the holy element, and it brought little hope the house. Her aunt hoped to combine her element affinities and create a class upgrade that would be powerful. However, she ended up becoming a type of healer class by trickery and later joined as a priestess for the church. Her aunt felt betrayed for not being able to bring her family to nobility again and by never being given a choice ended up taking her own life. This was last straw and a major scar for the family because suicide was looked down upon especially for nobles. Emily’s house was torn apart losing both the Sanor name and their nobility. Luckily, Emily met Roy before the very end of the family and escaped. She lost her last name and being born without access to energy she relied on her Tailor class to support her family.

After hearing her mothers story Susy took a deep breathe feeling defeated and also started to tear up.
“Do you trust me, Susy?” James asked out after thinking again over his mother’s story.
Taking a quick look at James she hesitated but her trust in her brother caused her nod.
“Good give me your hands and close your eyes. Calm yourself by thinking of nature, fresh air, trees, and birds chirping as they peacefully fly around. Relax your mind and clear out all other thoughts but those that i mentioned,” he said. She looked at her mom who looked confused but still did as he said.
After giving her moment and feeling the mana calm down around her almost to a still, he closed his eyes. He kept describing different parts of a peaceful forest before he quickly start siphoning the mana through his core. He then went about transforming the mana from his core into nature element which he surrounded Susy in. Guiding it to form a bubble of sorts with his sister as the center he completed his part. This was made possible by using his mana weaving skill which gave him the ability to create any element of his choosing.
Susy could feel and almost smell the difference of mana in the air as James was talking to her. It felt so real and comforting now being surrounded by nature elements. It felt like she was in the middle of the woods and the nature element had some type of connection with her. The air smelt so soothing and caused memories to surface of going for walks with her father. Susy never felt so complete as she did now.
“Focus and keep that calm mindset but try to bring the nature element inside your body above your stomach. Find the center point of yourself then direct it there but do not force it instead guide it. When it’s gathered hold it in place almost like a ball and then keep that shape. Make sure to take your time,” James reminded Susy noticing she refocused herself.
Emily looked worried but after she noticed how driven both her children were she held her tongue.
Ten minutes passed and James started to worry his mana couldn’t hold up. He mainly controlled the nature element to stay in the bubble with Susy at the center and occasionally he had to feed more as some would be guided to Susy and out of his control. As she guided the nature element to create her core, James was forced to keep at the same pace even though his mana reserves started running dry.
Just when he was going to give a warning to Susy, he noticed the nature element in the bubble get sucked straight into creating her core at a rapid pace. James had to quickly create as much nature element as he could considering Susy's core was in the final stages of creation. It lasted just seconds before her core suddenly stopped accepting anymore of the nature element and James was finally able to relax.
