《Manaweaver》Chapter 3

Waking up Lightning or James now as he finally accepted felt groggy and took a second to re-familiarize himself of his situation. He is not the original James and has to try to fit in. Luckily his identity isn’t hard to adjust too considering the boy kept mainly to himself in a sort of depression. Anybody who could suddenly wake up no longer sick would have a quick change to personality. After standing up he quickly changed into a set of clothes from the chest having to catch his breath from the movement at times. He made his way to his door when finished changing then after taking a deep breath he prepared to get into character of the boy.

Susy and Emily could be seen at the table eating eggs and dark looking bread. Emily has long black hair and gold eyes. She has an air of motherly love about her and is of medium height but thin. Suzy on the other hand looks like a younger version of Emily except with silver hair, short, and some baby fat she’s yet to rid of.

“Hey mom, hey Susy good morning,” James said in a quiet voice shyly looking down after he finished making his way down the stairs.

Both Susy and Emily look back to young man not as both froze as their jaws hung open with food still being brought to their lips. In what felt like a huge moment for James he felt his heart as it pounded in his chest.

“WHAT IS THIS? How can you be standing and walking right now?” Emily could be heard yelling as she ran over to James causing her chair to fall back.

Susy shaking in worry got out of her chair and followed behind her mother as she said, “Should you be moving right now? You should be sick in bed.”

“I am fine and actually feel a lot better since last night. Not sure what happened but when I woke up, I feel like I can breathe normally, and my body feels better,” James said as he tried to change his face to one that beamed with confidence.

Susy and Emily looked over him as Emily started to check his head to make sure he wasn’t delirious with a fever.

“James, you have been in bed your life and suddenly walk down the stairs feeling better? What do you believe your mother is a fool or was born yesterday?” Emily questioned him as her voice started raising in anger.

“Look mom I can’t explain it either. When I woke up I felt like my was lighter and was no longer in pain. I am tired of laying in bed waiting to die. Maybe I will end up sick again soon but I would rather fight try to live,” James started also raising his voice back at his mother while keeping his eyes trained on hers.

There were a few moments of silence until Emily could be heard sighing as she said, “You are still young, and it also pains us to see you stuck in bed. Just promise that if you feel ill you will call me or your sister immediately,” Emily demanded James with the last part as she reached out gripping both his shoulders. Her eyes were tearing and he could see the stress covering her face.

James smiled and nodded as he gave her a hug. He proceeded to grab a piece of bread and eat, hopefully proving the point that he is better. Susy had her eyes watching James as he made every single movement as she looked for him to fall or cough. They have never had hope he would get better but if there was some miracle that happened, she could only pray it sticks. James was basically a vegetable that had to be taken care, but his she would still support him as she loved her brother.

Emily and Susy decided to see how things turned out as they sat to continue eating with puffy red eyes.

“I will be in the backyard trying to move around some. I won’t leave the house I promise.” Emily hesitated but nodded while James started walking which almost turned into running outside.

After exiting the door his jaw can be seen stuck open as he looked around. The cheaply made houses were so close together he could see rows single floored buildings that looked to be falling apart. His house was probably in an area that is just above the bottom class of society considering they had a roof over their heads. There is a smell of sewage in the air and people could be heard talking in the streets. Luckily the fences are big, and they can block any view of any people that may see him. Not wanting to waste time James started with a simple plan of increasing the strength of his weak body by walking around and doing simple exercises. He could be seen jogging, stretching, and lifting rocks with many long breaks in between. Not sure if this is the proper way to go strength training, James figured it couldn’t hurt to keep going considering anything is better than being out of breath after every ten steps.

Noticing a couple spies eyeing him as he was running around, he made sure to not show any weakness as he held a forced smile on his face. He had one more chance at life and will not have any regrets as he tried his best.

Sighing, ‘I am in for a rough month,’ James thought during one of his out of breath breaks.
