《The village elder is manipulating our minds!》Reading Books and Leveling

‘After buying the slaves, Jonathan made his way to the first merchant and bought more materials, especially metals.

There were simply too many different kinds of materials. Several types of wood, rocks, and metals he never heard of before.

So he just made sure to buy a few of each of the ones he never saw before just in case he ever needed.

And with the large amount of Iron he bought, he should be able to make full sets for all of his Guards.’

The problem is that Iron is quite bad compared to Steel. I did see steel tools being sold but they had a considerably high price compared to the simpler iron tools.

I hope that a Tier-1 Blacksmith can make steel tools, that would be massive now that we have so much Iron to work with.

I sold all of the excess food we had, recovering a little of what I spent, but it will soon start to overflow again. I only hope the next Caravan visits soon.

Food decays over time, and with a small village, Using 20 Small Crop Fields is a bit too much. One is more than enough to feed everyone.

I won't have the farmers clear the fields since we still have a lot of space to plant the new seeds and herbs.

“The more time passes the more things I have to do...”

‘Following that, Jonathan went around the place checking up on the villagers. They seemed to be alright, the merchants were not pulling their legs, so he just left them to do their own things’

‘He wanted to talk with the Slaves, but he was quite embarrassed. How should he approach them? “Hello! I am your buyer”? Isn't that a bit too forceful?’

‘So he just left everything to the other and went back to the Elder’s house to train. Around one hour later, the merchants left.’

[DING!]

[The merchants have packed their belongings and they are leaving after making trade with your village]

[The merchants left the village happy with their earnings. Although they were a little disappointed since they didn't manage to rest properly]

[Reputation with the Arlon Merchant Union + 12]

[Your villagers have traded with the merchants, increasing their happiness]

[Avarage happiness +20]

[Your items are being delivered to the warehouse by the nearest workers]

[Your new inhabitants are waiting to be assigned]

[Due to your new inhabitants, Average happiness has decreased]

[Due to their special circumstances, they can't defy your orders, hence, there is no Reputation loss]

“... They left early, just like he said.”

I think I understand his words a little now. If I build an Inn and a stable, perhaps it should be possible to make the merchants stay longer.

Currently, there is no benefit in keeping the merchants for longer, it's actually bad since they could learn about the irregularities of our village.

But in the future, when we have a lot more to sell and trade, keeping them in the village for longer periods might prove beneficial.

“Thankfully, that last reward was enough to offset the loss in the average happiness, I don't want to lose those boosts so soon.”

“A lot changed”

“I have a lot of shit in my inventory that I need to go through, and a lot of materials to spend”

“The reputation is almost at 200, I wonder if something is going to change when it reaches that value”

“Although the food has decreased, tomorrow we will already be able to harvest the Rice-Corn because of the two-day cycle. So there is no problem”

“I just need to clean some Fields to plant some of these extra plants. This will diversify my already super bland food.”

“The herbs need a special place to grow...”

[Herb field Tier-0

Description: A suitable place for the growth of plants dedicated to other activities apart from just simple consumption.

A Gardener or a Herbalist is necessary to operate this facility.

Due to the poor conditions of this place, only some sorts of Herbs are suitable to be planted.

“It shouldn't take long to build this. But I still have much more to build...”

“An Alchemist shop, An Inn, the rest of the buildings for the Villagers...”

“I thought I was going to be finished by the end of the week, but I couldn't be wrong”

“There are also these little things.”

‘Jonathan took out a few pills from his inventory’

[Training Pill]

[Supplement Solution]

[Growth salts]

“All of them are aimed towards making you grow muscles. I can understand what those young masters feel now.”

“Although these aren't almighty, they only help with growing muscles, nothing more. And I still need to work hard. If I combine the effects of all of these at the same time and train non-stop. I should be able to become physically fit in a month.”

“Those three together can cut 7-8 months of constant training to just 1. The rate might be even bigger since this is only a conservative estimation”

“Although it wasn't short of expensive… Around one Silver for a set worth a day.”

“Only the rich would be able to afford 1 Silver a day only to grow some muscles...”

“Bless the free money!”

‘Although Jonathan was excited to test their effects, he had other things to do.’

“I will allow the villagers to rest for a while and enjoy the happiness, Considering the time, they should be going for Lunch pretty soon”

“Once that's done I will resume operations.”

“Now, let me take a look at these items...”

‘He once again opened the inventory and removed a small pile of items’

“Should I let the villagers open the rocks?... If they do find anything...”

“I shouldn't be greedy! Increasing happiness and reputation is the most important right now!”

“Even if a Gem falls from inside, I can perhaps convince the villager to hand it over after paying him/her a handsome sun...”

“First, let me read these books, since they have the ‘use’ option, this must mean that I gain something after I finish reading them.”

“I have three books, A guide to Construction, On the intricacies of the Inner pathways, Old King Biography”

“Let me start with the one who will give me blueprints…”

‘For the next half hour, Joseph focused all of his attention on the thin book. Its contents were pretty simple, it showed several basic blueprints and how to do each.’

[DING]

[You have learned how to build a Chicken coop, Pig coop, Stables,...]

“Didn't I know how to build those already? I am pretty sure I did for some.”

This means that I learned the same thing twice…

“It's not that bad since I learned something new, even if only one blueprint.”

“I will leave the 'On the intricacies of the Inner pathways’ for later after I meet with the 6 new workers.”

‘So once again, Jonathan opened the book and started reading’

‘This time, he took over an hour, almost skipping lunch.’

/Poof/

‘He closed the book with a satisfying ‘poof’ sound’

“Urg… This was worse than the last one… If this is an unedited copy of his original biography, then without a doubt, this King was MAD.”

“He would multiple times over consider the death of thousands to achieve meager results that could’ve been achieved by simply being slightly patient and smart. But he was clearly, neither patient nor smart.”

“His only ‘good’ trait was how well he managed to balance the forces, otherwise he would’ve been deposed within a year.”

“Yet, he lasted 2 decades...”

[DING]

[Communion Lv2, Influence Lv2, Command Lv2, have Leveled Up]

“I figured… If I have the chance, I should look for more of these books...”

One thing that I noticed was that not all books have the option of “use”.

Meaning that most don't have any effect at all.

“They might not have any use for me, but that might not be the case for others, that's why I bought all of those Guide books.”

“The final Book, although it is outdated, I still want to know what I will gain from reading it!”
