‘I went to the corner of my room and picked a dropped bag’

-I forgot to search the bag yesterday, now that I have time, let me see what secrets you hide

[Beginner package has been opened]

[You have acquired, Royal academy Task, Diary, Meat snacks, Knowledge book, 16 Silver pieces]

-Hum. If I add in my initial clothes… I guess this is everything I was told I would get.

There was a small sac filled with meat jerkies, these could probably last a few days.

A little bit of money that already disappeared in my ocean of money.

-A diary, the task, and a knowledge book?

Let me start with the smaller ones first.

“Dear Young Scholar

It has come to my attention that thou steamed...”

Let me jump to the meaninfull part

“... Raise the village tax income as a way to prove thou capabilities and I shall invite you to study here with my other students in the Royal Academy

You have one year until the next Tax collection, more than enough time for someone as talented as you.

With grace and...”

-So pretty much, I was tasked with raising this village Tier back to 5 in one year?

This doesn't look that hard with the Village tab but… If this didn't exist…

Then how the fuck would I be able to even survive a year? Much less improving its condition.

[DING]

[A new quest has been created]

[Old Glory

Objective:

Raise Guepas Village Tier to 5 or have the annual Tax pay be equal to 100 Gold pieces

Rewards:

Invitation to the Royal Academy

Royal Academy reputation +5

Failure:

Failing this mission will remove your sole opportunity to enter the Royal Academy while also staining your flawless reputation within the Scholar society

]

-... Is this Academy so difficult to join that someone would be given such a clearly impossible task?

Or is there some hidden truth to this?

-There is also the possibility that they didn't know.

This is medieval times, meaning that the main method of communication are letters, and how do you make a letter go from one side to the other?

Through birds and couriers of course.

Although such methods take months sometimes…

This also means that each territory is pretty much independent. The ruling authority of this kingdom does not have enough resources nor time to fiscalize every nook and cranny of its territory.

Even more so if you consider this is a village at the absolute North of it.

-So there is a chance that the Lord lied about the state of this place in order to keep up appearances.

So when my character arrived…

It was at that moment he knew he was fucked over.

-... I became a scapegoat.

When one year passes and I fail, the tax collector will come and notice the dilapidated situation of this place.

They will ask what happened and I would have to say the truth.

The problem is that the truth involves throwing dirt in the Lord of this territory.

-So my end result is to either take the blame or die… After all, who would they believe, a promising and “reputable” Lord or a young and rash scholar?

Even if they knew the Lord was wrong, in order to keep the supremacy of the Noble class, I would have to suffer some sort of consequence.

-But I am not really safe even if I raise this place to Tier-5

It would be suspicious if I actually got this place up and running, and I am sure the Lord wouldn't allow me to leave its territory without telling him my secret.

-That is all under the assumption that the Lord actually pays attention to such matters within his territory.

-The mission quest is too one-sided, it doesn't include such minor plot developments.

Well, if it did, every quest would be an Oracle…

-Next book, knowledge book… I wonder what information it holds.

[The Knowledge book has been opened, make your choice]

[1- Management

2- Tier System

3-Environment

4- Materials

5- Creatures

6- Politics

]

-Another choice? This world loves choices…

Let me see if I got this right…

I chose one and I will gain information relating to that subject?

-Information is always good, but I have to consider my current and future situation…

-I can get material and environmental information by exploring the place and using the map… There is the chance they expand further than that but I can't gamble more than I already did.

-Management and creatures… Certainly, if I got information on how to manage the place, getting to Tier-5 would be a breeze… But with my Skill set and the Village Tab, I think I am alright.

-Creatures would be very very good, it would give me insight into the possible natural dangers that might befall the village and how to avoid them. It can even give me information on how to exploit some of those dangers.

-And finally, the two I am most interested in… Politics and the Tier System.

Why those two?

Politics could and will probably give me insights into how I could survive and exploit the situation I am currently in, while the Tier system would give the necessary knowledge to evolve not only myself but those around me more efficiently.

'It was a hard choice, but one that Jonathan had to make. After a few minutes he made his choice.'

-... I think I know what I should choose.

I can acquire every single one of the choices with relative ease… With the exception of one…

-I chose Number 2, Tier System.

/Crakle.../

The book on my hand started to burn, slowly, the upper layer of the book was burned revealing a small thin book with the Title:

-Tier System 101… For newbies…

… Fuck you too…

-I will read the diary first before taking a look at this.

-... And… The end…

/Poof/

I closed the book and placed it on the desk.

-Hum… There wasn't really a lot of information there. But it was enough for me to get a grasp onto my character's original personality and habits.

The information is useless for me because this guy lived most of his life in other territories, whose systems are very different from the one I am currently in.

-However, I did gain some bits and pieces of interesting Lore…

Mercenary house… Wizards… Powerful knights…

-Things that were legendary for the people of this village were more common on the outside.

-Although the diary, the previous Jonathan only met with a true Wizard once and with a Titled Knight twice.

Titled knights and Wizards are the rank after their respective apprentice levels.

First you are a Squire and an Wizard apprentice, then you become a Titled knight and Wizard.

-It seems the world of the strong is separated from the normal world. Otherwise there wouldn't be one Wizard in his entire life.

Jonathan lived in big cities, not in the countryside. Its impossible to meet or hear of a single Wzard in 20 years of life.

-The book now… What time is it?... 10:12. Almost a day since I arrived here, Richard told me I got knocked out close to 12Pm.

-Thankfully the Village tab has a clock, otherwise I would be lost.

The fucking previus Elder took all of the clocks of this place! And I didnt gain another with the exploration…

-I could just count how much time has passed since I assigned the workers of course.

‘I opened the book, excited to learn its contents.’

-... Tiers are divided into 4 levels…

-From the lowest Tier-0 to the highest, Tier-3.

-Once someone reaches Tier-3 they are eligible to get a “Job-Up”.

-If they succeed in this, their Job will change to a higher variant and they will restart from Tier-0 while keeping all of the previous bonuses their Tier-3 Job gave them.

-It's possible to start at a higher Job, but the person will not gain the bonuses from previous Jobs if that is the case. Meaning it’s recommended to rise from the lowest point.

-In rare cases, it's possible to go beyond the limit of Tier-3 going into Tier-4, but that is nothing but a thin barrier that is preventing the Unit from going into his next Job.

...

-It's possible to lose Tiers if the Unit stays vacant for too long or suffers from some adverse effect, limiting its capability to act/work.

...

-There is no need to keep a Unit in the same Job, if you notice that the Unit doesn't like what she/he is doing, a Job switch may be necessary.

-Finding your Unit's perfect job is key to a healthy Village!

-If a Unit is satisfied and has the talent for its current Job, its Tier up speed will be considerably faster than most.

...

-Sometimes, a Unit may change Jobs on its own if all conditions align, going from Tier-0 all the way to Tier-2 or even 3. The Unit may even change Jobs completely!

-This is called “Enlightenment”.

...

-There are many situations and circumstances that may affect a Units Tier and Job, it's up to you to find out all of its secrets and Unique paths!

-Here are some tips:

-A Villager can increase his Tier by doing multiple activities, but the best way is to simply raise his living conditions. A high quality Villager comes from a high quality village.

-A soldier first needs a weapon and secondly a piece of armor of any kind. Finally, he needs a task to do repeatedly.

-A farmer is happy when the crops are happy, he is sad when the cows are sad, and he is excited when the pigs are excited.

-I hope this guide has been helpful for you readers, good luck.

'And I closed the book'

I only read it once but the contents are already in my head... Photographic memory is doing wonders. Is this how Geniuses feel?

-Alright… It seems that my dream of having an army of high Tier villagers has just been brought down…
