《Repeat》39. Forgiveness

It would be nice if you would point out the mistakes. Thanks

“So, how is it?” Lucy asks me.

We’re gathering in her garden after I killed Cirion and took Voice of Obedience. As usual, I took all of his memories because I killed him while wearing Perfect Role Play. God Items are indestructible unless by using another God Item so a little explosion won’t destroy it. I put Voice of Obedience in the Keeper because I don’t need it right now.

We’re in a round table with all of my party. Lucy with some of her demon maid and human butler. We’re having some cake and tea while we’re talking.

“Just as you suspected,” I pause and put my cup on the table. “Mammon did contact Cirion. The train station attack also planned by Mammon. He’s hoping for me being killed by the attack or at least arrested by Aeshma officials. But, they didn’t expect you. If you didn’t come, they’ve already sent us to Markozias for a further interrogation.”

When I said interrogation, I meant torture. Needless to say all of them know what I meant.

“Then, how about that document?” Lucy asks me concerning the document she gave to me.

This document contains a numbers of cases which Mammon might be involved. Most of it is an attack on some village or another terrorist-like attack like the one in the train station.

“I can only confirm half of it. The other half doesn’t involve Cirion at all. Judging by the date, perhaps, it’s done by the former holder of Voice of Obedience. It all happen before Mammon made a contact with Cirion.”

“Hmm, So the previous Mammon already had contacted with the holder of Voice of Obedience.” Lucy scratches her hair.

“So,” Kurua comes in. “He controls people belief with the terrorist-like attack. Proving how great he is at defending the city. When a group of rebellion is rising, he used Cirion to put it off.”

“Yes, it’s as Kurua says.” I agree with him. “Truth to be told. I’m surprised you can’t reveal it until now.”

“Well, it’s not an easy task at all.” Lucy answers me. “Cirion had Voice of Obedience. Mammon has this slave magic that can’t be broken unless the slave dies. Both of them are a pain in the ass.”

Yeah, those things are troubling. Mammon’s slave magic is an ancient magic. It’s only known by some. It’s not being used anymore as the incantation is too hard. The caster needed to spell it along with the tone and the sigil need to be tattooed on the body of the caster. Even a lot of practices won’t do. A talent is also needed. I can guess Mammon’s family is talented for it.

“So, now,” I stop the Mammon-Cirion talks. “Give us the Mammon’s location.”

At that moment, I can feel the air became hard to breathe. Yes, I can say it. Everyone stares at Lucy. Even her maid and butler stare at her.

“Okay, okay.” Lucy lets out an easy tone. She tries to make the air lighter. “He’s in Ef’reet. He’s been there for a few days and will stay for another week.”

“Huh? Isn’t he in Markozias?” Reis asks her.

“No, he’s not.” Lucy answers Reis. “To tell you the truth, this is the worst time to carry out your revenge. He’s on an urgent conference with another Deadly Sins.”

“Urgent conference?” Eri asks her.

“Yeah.” Lucy confirms Eri. “As Sairkhan has gone, Markozias’s economy is collapsing. The other Deadly Sins thought this is the best time to take over Markozias and rebuild it. So, they arranged this urgent conference to talk about that.”

“I’m not sure he will give Markozias easily.” Kurua tells his opinion.

“He won’t, but it will happen. Markozias will be rebuilt.” Lucy break Kurua’s opinion.

“But, if that happens, isn’t that mean he will no longer a ruler?” Xiel asks. “It will be easier to take him right?”

“No, it won’t be any easier.” I shatter Xiel’s hope. “When the other Deadly Sins take over Markozias, they have to provide him an asylum. He will be sent to another continent. If that were to happen, we have to start from square one.”

“I, I see.” Xiel tone down.

“So, in the end, we will use your plan? Attack them head on?” Reis asks us.

I look at the girls. Their head is facing down. As the original plan came, they realize that they can do nothing to help. I know their frustration. Especially Xiel since she was the closest to Nevi. But she’s only two words fugitive. She doesn’t stand a chance against one word hero. Eri is the best of them as she’s two words nobody. In her normal state she might come handful. But she just lost her arm and leg. She can’t fight the way she used to be. Reis and Erfia are out of question.

I guess it’s time to call it a day.

***

The night is not so cold in this place if it doesn’t rain. But this place’s sky is not as clear as the new continent. This place might be placed outside the city, but the high building and the lights from the town make it hard to look at the stars.

I’m thinking back about the plan. Things are not so smooth as we wanted to be. I take another sip of my tea. Now I’m sitting in the garden with nothing but the grass as the mat. Before coming here, I asked the maid to make me some tea at a pot with a glass. I don’t know how they make it but the tea at this house is one of the best teas I have ever had.

“Can’t sleep?”

I turn my head as I hear her voice. I let out a faint smile and take another sip.

“Nah, I’m just thinking about the plan.”

Lucy sits beside me, “Has your child sleep?”

“Yes, she has. I had Reis accompany her.” I give her my cup, “Want some?”

She gracefully takes it from my hand. “Sure. Thanks.”

I look into her as she sips the tea. She’s in her sleeping clothes that nearly look through. Showing a faint look of her underwear.

“So, are you serious about the war? You realize 2 vs 7 is one of the best scenarios, right?”

“Yeah, of course I know. Every Deadly Sins has at least three elite guards with them. A one word hero and a pair of two words hero. If I count them, it’s likely to be 2 vs 28.”

“And as of now, there’s a conference, the security is at its best. It’s more like 2 vs Demon’s Realms.”

I sigh and lay myself on the ground. “Ahh, the odds keep getting worse. So much for a single revenge.”

“Yeah, apparently.”

I can hear the wind blows gently on my skin.

“Actually, there’s a lot easier way to do it.” I break the silence. “I could just put the whole Ef’reet inside the Keeper just like I did it with Sairkhan.”

“Wha,”

I interrupt her before she talks. “But, it will cause too many collateral damages. I won’t do it.”

She lets out a deep breath. It seems she doesn’t want too many casualties in the demon’s side too.

“Hahaha,” I let out a small laugh. “No, really. If I use Voice of Obedience, I could easily make them not to attack me.”

“Now that you said it. It is way easier.”

“Yeah, that left me with the God Items holder.” I pause for a moment, look into her. “Tell me, who’s the current holder?”

“Mmmm,” Lucy falls silent. Her mouth is willing to say something, but it doesn’t look so sure.

“You won’t tell me?”

“No!” Lucy answers me instantaneously. “It’s not that I won’t tell you. It just, I don’t even know the current holder. Normally, the God Items are being passed from one Deadly Sins to another Deadly Sins. But in a conference like now, two God Items of demons are gathered and can be used by any Deadly Sins if it needed to be. So,”

Hmmm, unlike the other races, demons use my God Items as a passable item. It can be used by anyone when they need it. Also, both of them are coming. I didn’t think about Weapon of Calamity as a bother at all. They’re much inferior compared to God Items. Their holder still falls under Voice of Obedience effect. As Lucy didn’t talk about it, I can guess she already knew about it.

“But, I can’t really use Voice of Obedience, can I?”

“Yeah, you can’t.” Lucy answers me. “If the Deadly Sins is unable to fight you just because of a single item, the people will lose their faith in the current government. It might lead to another revolution.”

“You know what? I think the people of this nation are having too little faith in their own government.”

“Haha, I know it. But what can I do? That’s how the demons made. Blame Him if you want to.”

“Hahaha, yeah. He’s the one to blame.”

I keep my mouth shut for a while. One God Item is the Philosopher. In term of alchemy, Philosopher is like an unlimited mana of magic. Normal alchemy requires the correct ingredients to be done. By using Philosopher, the creator only needs to know what ingredients needed and the symbol or the sigil to create it. The ingredients are no longer required.

The other God Item is the Breaker. Breaker is the real version of the anti-magic. Unlike the downgrade version of Nevi’s anti-magic, it doesn’t need any complicate process. All the process has been taken by Breaker. The user simply wishes to cancel one magic, and it’s done. Its effect has the radius of the holder’s sight. It also won’t allow the user being in control of another person magic like mind control magic or such. The person even can break or destroy any magic that already unleashed. Say, if a fireball already approaching the holder, the holder simply wants it to disappear and it will.

By adding these two God Items, I can’t imagine how hard this revenge going to be. Well, if you’re an optimist, you will say it’s a good opportunity to get two God Item at the same time. But I’m more of a realist. Yeah, it will cut me a lot of time, but I’m not sure I can get both of them at once. I guess I’ll fight using underhanded trick as usual.

“It means the additional condition applies.” I remind her of the additional condition I mentioned before.

Lucy nod.

I look at her. It seems she’s thinking about something. I can see it from her furrowed eyebrow.

“So, is there something you want to talk? Just say it.”

“Actually,” She pauses for a moment. “It’s about your previous life.”

My previous life? Is she talking about Kries?

“Do you know who I was?”

“Yeah, but it was already too late.”

When she said it, I recall the day I was captured. I hate to admit I remember very well the person leading my arrest. It was Lucy.

“When did you realize that I was Kries?” I look at her.

She still holds her head down. Unwilling to look at me. “The moment I arrested you. I just knew it’s you when you looked at me. I can’t forget the way you looked at me that time.”

How I look at her, eh? I don’t really know how I look at that time. The only thing I know is I really shocked, pissed, and disappointed when I look at her at that time. For me, with the perfect memory, it is normal to remember it. But Lucy has a normal memory even if she’s immortal. Forgetting things are completely natural for her. If she still remembers how I look at her, which was nearly 100 years ago, it meant I showed a very nasty expression on my face.

“I can’t even fathom your disappointment and anger at that time. I, I,” She stutters. She can’t finish her words.

I stand and then sit at her back. I embrace her body from behind and pat her head. As I embrace her body, I can feel her body is shaking. It seems she’s still feeling guilty. I just sit there and embrace her. Without telling a word at all.

“So, that’s the real reason you did all of this?”

Lucy nods slowly.

I see. Now it all makes sense. She did all of it to seek my forgiveness.

I remember when we’re together in our past life. I can still remember it clearly when she said she will offer the world to me if it’s possible. She doesn’t change at all since the first moment I met her.

“It’s all in the past. I already forgive you.”

“So, this thing will take us to O’oni Port and Ef’reet?” I show Lucy the card she gave us this morning.

“Yes. It is proof you are an important guest of this nation. You will get one car for all of you. The security won’t do their frequent check on you too.”

“I see.” I look at the card.

“Mada, where is our seat?” Reis yells at me.

I turn my back to her. Everybody is standing near the train while I’m still near the gate with Lucy and her human butler.

“Car numbers two from the locomotive. The whole car is ours.” I yell back at her.

As I say it, they walk toward the locomotive. I turn to Lucy again. Lucy wears her usual jeans and jacket outfit. I kind of wonder how her tail roaming free thought. Is there a hole in her jeans or what?

“Have a safe trip. And please don’t be too harsh on them.” Lucy smiles. She meant the current Seven Deadly Sins.

“Don’t be too harsh? It is likely they’re the one who will get harsh on me.”

“Dad! The train is going to leave!”

I look back and see Erfia yells from the window.

“I suppose it is time. Are you sure it’s alright?”

I didn’t ask for this card. If they investigate it, they might know Lucy is connected to us, a soon going to be terrorist.

“It’s okay. I’ve got it under control.”

“Well, okay then.”

I step forward and hug her. I embrace her in my hand. Both of us take some space and let our lips meet. I can feel her all of her feeling and guilt through this one kiss. Time feels so slow when we kiss. After a moment, we stopped and part.

“I’ll be going.”

“Yeah, be careful.”

I walk and leave them. As I get into the car, I see a car complete with bathroom, beds, and tables. I open the window and look at Lucy and her butler. The locomotive lets out a sound of steam. The train is leaving the station.

I yell outside the window. “Tell the others I said hi, grandchild of Bern.”

As I say it, I could definitely see both of them widen their eyes. I guess it gives them a little surprise.

You’ve been taking all those guilty feelings and burden it all by yourself. It is time for you to let go of it.

~~~
I stand as I see the train leaving the station. The train leaves with my lover and his new friends along. Nevertheless, his last words give me some comfort in my heart. I thought when he told me he forgave me, it just a figure of speech.
“So, it seems he already knew.” Gii speaks to me.
“Yes, apparently.”
I remember the day when I arrest him. I can never forget how he looked at me at that time.
It is pretty lucky to me his people just surrendered without any resistance. I made a replica of them by using clay doll and make it live with expressions and all. The same way God creates human but without a soul. I gave the doll to the government and changed all his people's name and face. As the doll being tortured, the real people are under my protection as my worker. As I am the first Lucifer, nobody asked me about the new worker as long as I didn’t disturb the government. But I can’t do anything about him. He tortured to the death.
And yes, I did all of it to seek his forgiveness.
“Gii, let’s go back. We have to tell the others he said hi.”
“Yes Madam.”
