《Repeat》31. Nevi Frendezcht part V

It’s been a week since they captured me.
When the crowd almost reached me, they suddenly stop and became the nice people like before. Even with the sword in my hand, they didn’t surround me or capture me. They just let me go like nothing ever happened. Even some of them offered a place for me to stay. But in the end, the city guards came and captured me. Since then, I’ve been held in this underground prison.
In this one week time, I didn’t hear any words about Xiel or anything else. I hope she made it.
This prison is a weird one. It only got some torch for illumination. I can’t even see or hear any other person in this place. Sometimes the guards brought a new prisoner and took them to the room at the end of the alley. But other than that, I see no more.
“Now, show me the person who managed to stay alive in this city at that time!”
“Yes, sir. She’s right here.”
I look through the bar and see a big person wearing a big clothes and a cape covering his whole body. The only part shown are his head and his big belly that sticking out of his cape. He has a wide jaw. Very wide I could say it’s not of human. He has a very big eyes but a small nose. I can’t see his ear as it covered by long wavy hair. His pair of wavy long horn is sticking out of the hair in back of his head.
Wait a minute. I think I saw his face somewhere before. Is it in the book? Or somewhere else?
“Tell me, little girl. What’s your name?” a heavy voice is coming out of her mouth.
“Nevi Frendezcht.” I answer him while trying to find out where I’ve seen his face. “Who are you? What do you want?”
“I’ll answer it as you will remember it forever.” He shows a very wide grin. “I am Mammon the Greed. One of the great Seven Deadly Sins.”
Oh my God? Am I dreaming? Mammon the one titled hero is standing in front of me? What for? This place is not the Demon’s Realm.
Suddenly I can hear he’s mumbling. I can’t hear it clearly as he speaks so soft. I try to activate my anti magic, but suddenly I can feel something is holding my neck and my arms. My hand and neck are being held by something invisible. I can feel it but yet I can’t see anything. It could be a magic. My hands take me in the air and makes me floating.
I look into his spell incantation but it’s moving so fast and it’s a very long incantation. I can’t even keep up with his cast.
~By this moment, I decree you as my eternal slave. You are not allowed to disobey me as your body is mine.~
He shouts out the final incantation. As the incantation is complete, I can feel my hands and my neck is burning. It’s burning hot even though there’s no flame in it. Finally the burn sensation is gone and my body back to the ground.
“What, what the-“
I hate to admit it, but the last lines of his spell makes me certain that he’s using the most powerful slave bind magic ever exist. It’s a very hard spell as it needs an exact incantation and even the person needs to apply the right high or low tone in the incantation. It’s like a music being sang in a very low voice.

I try my anti magic to dispel this slave bind magic. But as I did it, my body suddenly feels so hot and it makes me lose my concentration.
“It’s futile. Any attempts to dispel it will result in your body feel as it being burned. It won’t kill you but it’s enough to stop any resistance.” Mammon opens the bar door. “Now, come on out.”
Even if I don’t want to, my body moves on its own. I can’t even control my body right now.
“Now, you are the high priest of Sairkhan, Nevi Frendezcht. My first command is kill this man.”
“Wait, what sir?” the person showing me asks Mammon.
“Yes, master.” My mouth moves on its own.
At that moment, my hand grabs his choke. I try to command my hand to stop but it won’t listen to me anymore. It keeps on choking him. Even it adds more strength and breaks his neck.
A dead body falls from my hand.
No! I can’t even control my body anymore.
“That’s the price for your failure last week. Mr former high priest.” Mammon pats my head. “Now, miss new high priest. You’ve got a very important task. You need to keep this place running. You may never speak about me and you have to obey the king as he’s another one of my servants.”
“Yes, master.” My mouth moves on its own again.
“Now, you need a title. When I put you under the slave bind magic what are you trying to do?”
“I try to use my anti magic to dispel it.”
“Anti magic? That’s a new magic isn’t?”
“Yes master, I created it few years ago.”
“Then, starting from today, You are Nevi the Anti magic.”
Since that day, I lost control of my own body. I only gain control of it in the night when there’s nothing the high priest could do. But the king place another restriction upon me as I’m not allowed to leave my room unless he says so. If some another kingdom delegation come and asks me about my position, all I need to answer is that I’m necessary for this kingdom to maintain the people’s faith.
This city is a rotten city. It’s extracting pain and fear of any titled fugitive into a crystal to gather the negative emotion on the surface. Pain and fear are working like a gravity. The bigger and denser one will pull the smaller one and it will leave the people on the surface with only positive emotion. And all of those crystal is sent to Markozias, Demon’s Realm.
The reason people suddenly turned hostile is that the former high priest made a mistake. One of the crystals broke and all of the negative emotion it held being released. A hand of crystal amount hundred people’s negative emotion for a whole month. The riot in the city subsided after its being mended into another crystal. By looking at it, I can conclude the people were rioting already when this method is implemented. If, this place is destroyed, every negative emotion will return to their original body. A burst of negative emotion will result in something that far worse than that night.
Seven years past is like an eternity for me. I cried every night when can control my body. I can’t take it. I can’t torture someone everyday like it’s nothing. All this time I feel like I’m only some person watching a movie which is me. It’s killing me inside. Slowly. Day by day.

Sometimes Xiel come to me without anyone notices. But as this slave bind magic controls my body, my body keeps on saying nothing is wrong. I wanted to apologize for being that way to her but when she’s here, I can’t even control my body. I try to kill myself countless times but my body keeps on preventing it from happening.
Suddenly, out of nowhere a gang of bandit appears in the route between Sairkhan and Loos Port. A band of bandit lead by Mada the Great Raider. This person is claiming as Mada the Raider pupil. From the information the intel gathered, I can guess it’s Xiel. It’s clear from the report that’s saying Mada the Great Raider fight by changing some iron into a bow, sword, or any other weapon. My body also realizes it and tells everything to the king. But she’s too strong for this city heroes to handle. I’m glad that these people are not competent at all. At first, the king thought about sending me to handle her but apparently Shiba insist that she might break the spell or somehow kidnap me.
Few months pass after the appearance of Mada the Great Raider and another big news coming up. Ul Thadur has fallen to the revolutionary army. The King sent me to the capital to negotiate about Sairkhan position. He wants Sairkhan position as an independent kingdom stay the same. And if I could, he wants me to hire some mercenary along the way to capture Xiel.
In the capital, some nice rumor reached my ear. One person that said is the key to the Fall of Ul Thadur. Mada the Raider. My feeling of happy and uneasy mix inside my heart. On one side, I’m ashamed of what I’ve become. But on the other side, I truly wish for him to end this living hell of Mine.
When I try to look for him, apparently he already long gone. At the way back to Sairkhan, our party got attacked by bandits. They attack us by surprise. Their attack proved to be successful as the only ones left Shiba and another two guards.
We take the ship to Loos Port and at that time. I execute the king’s order to hire a mercenary to capture Xiel. Shiba and I ask the captain of the ship to show us the list of the passengers. On that list, at least there're 5 different people with the name of Mada. Apparently my body is thinking about the same thing with me. We need Mada. Even it’s for a different reasons. My body makes an image by magic and order Shiba to look for him by the name of Mada Arcaness, his real name.
I express my most gratitude toward God as I meet Mada in the ships. My body reacting the way it used to be towards Mada. In the way to Sairkhan, my body is trying to charm Mada by teaching his daughter the anti magic. I don’t know. Something is wrong with my body. It’s not acting as usual. It’s like Mada is the reason it’s acting unusual. I guess even my body can’t deny it that I fall in love in Mada. And yes, I’m happy. I’m glad our child, anti magic, will be mastered by none other than his daughter. With this, our child will keep on living on her.
When Erfia master the anti magic, it seems she can see the slave bind magic on me. But once again, my body acting unusual and asks her to stay quiet about it. Saying it is the best for Mada not to know about it.
When Mada capture Xiel, I got myself worry to the dead. She will become a material for gathering pain and fear. I can only pray for you to stop me before it happens. I was afraid you won’t make it as these people start to chant a root of torture toward her body. But you won’t let me down and save her at the right time. And, I hope you will fulfill my final wish. Please, kill me.
As expected of Mada, he manages to counter my flying swords and even kills everybody in this room but Xiel and me in the process. Apparently, fighting him makes my body let out a tear. It seems like it can’t take it anymore when it has to fight Mada. When my body launches its final attack, Mada does something totally unexpected by breaking the ground apart and come at me. I can feel cold steel going through my stomach. At that moment, I can feel I’m in control of my body again.
“You finally made it.” I try my best to show him a smile.
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry.”
No, please don’t say it. You fulfill my wish. I don’t want to make you feel sad. Please, don’t say it. I beg of you.
“It’s okay, you’re not at fault. I’m the one at fault.” I try to lighten up his burden even if just a little.
I look closely into his brown eyes that're in tone with his short black hair. Those eyes of yours never fail to charm me. I can see the reflection of me in it. On his beautiful eyes. A river of tears flowing from your eyes it’s dripping into my face.
Please, don’t cry Mada. It’s the best thing you could do. Thank you for fulfilling my wish.
I put all the strength left within my body to reach him. To give him this one last hug. If you don’t mind, I’ve got another wish. A wish that I’ve always wanted longing since we were kids.
“We’re an adult now.” I try my hard to let out this words. The words I always said to him when we were kid. “Would you marry me?”
“Yes, I would.”
That answer is the best possible thing I could ever hope in this life. Thank you Mada. I love you.

Who else will they meet along their journey, and to find what he is looking for, how far will the wizard have to wander west? NOTE: The above synopsis is intentionally written to be as spoiler-free as possible. If you would like a more in-detail synopsis, one that contains minor spoilers, please check out the "Synopsis" chapter at the beginning of this fiction. If you read and enjoy, please leave a rating or review! FORMERLY TITLED: THE GLIMMERLING This story was formerly titled "The Glimmerling", because the first part was a short story of that title; it has since been expanded upon, thus the title change. Chapters 1-8 (30k words) are the first 'arc', if you want to get a feel for the story. To give some context on the setting: Magic is a bit weaker in this story than you might be used to, and we start off following some relatively new magic users. For some perspective, being able to light a campfire with magic is considered relatively advanced for someone who is the age of the main character. Magic can become very powerful - and there are some examples of powerful wizards within this story - but it's not where the main characters are yet. Part of the story is about following them as they learn more about magic. Enemies are also very dangerous, and running, hiding, or trying to talk their way out of a dangerous situation is often a better choice than fighting for the characters. While I have added tags for traumatizing content, sexuality, violence, swearing, etc. I try to avoid super-explicit descriptions of these things. But they are part of the story.
