《Twist of fate》Chapter 22 - Darkness of one's soul

I was so surprised at finding them in here, that a macabre smile appeared on my face.
The waiting for this moment to arrive was excruciating! I didn't search for them actively, but I always wanted to find them, and give the fierce man a lesson that he would never forget.
I remembered what Althaea said in the letter, and those words kept conflicting with what I wanted to do to him. But, at this moment nothing mattered. Seeing him in front of me made me instantly forget what Althaea said about being good.
The man and his team got up from their places. They were unarmed and didn't have any weapons on them, I looked to the side and saw that their weapons were around the bonfire, looking almost like a ritual to enjoy the feast.
"WHAT THE HELL?" the fierce man shouted in surprise on his face. "You truly are a cockroach, it seems that I have to cut you to pieces and smash your head for you to die."
An aura appeared around him again, but this time, instead of being bronze-colored it was silver. He had evolved his mutation to silver level.
His skin transformed into metal, and he pounced at me like a beast, throwing a powerful punch at my head. I could see that his companions were laughing from the back after getting rid of the shock, almost like they were seeing a comedy show.
I didn't even get my sword. seeing he coming at me like a beast, all confident in his physical prowess and strength, I would give him a lesson that he would never forget. Cold fury consumed me, and I strengthened my body with soul force and origin energy and punched him in the chin, contracting a ball of air and expanding it on impact.
"BOOOOOM"
My punch reached him before he could do anything to me. The fierce man was thrown high in the air and landed in the distance with a boom.
I knew that the attack was not enough to kill someone with a metal mutation at the silver level, but it would be enough to stop him for a while, time enough to make him suffer.
Rage fueled my eyes, and I unconsciously released a thin layer of black fire around me, making me look like a fire demon. I grabbed the sword on my back and attacked.
The first one to react was one of the other warriors on the team, the man fought using two sabers from what I remembered from the last encounter.

However, he didn't have the sabers in hand right now, so he transformed into a hybrid between a man and a bear and attacked me with his claw.
The attack was truly powerful, but it was too slow. I danced around his attack and attacked him with my sword.
"Peng."
Instead of reaching his flesh, the sword struck a barrier that was created by the mage. I ignored the defense and attacked again, this time involving my sword in flames and enhancing it.
"Shhaaa"
My sword cut the shield and the bear-man almost in half. The other teammates had used this time to grab their weapons but were shocked after seeing me destroy the mage's shield and kill the man.
The body feel to the ground while gushing blood. There was a red rain for a moment and the ground was dyed red. I used this opportunity to dash toward the mage, who was closest to me.
The man formed another shield around himself and attacked me with a wind blade.
I rolled in the ground to evade the blade and jumped forward slashing at the shield, ripping it in half together with the man.
His eyes opened like lanterns and he looked at me, almost as if he was trying to say his last words. But before he could say anything, he fell in the ground with a resounding thud.
I stepped back, evading an arrow that tried to impale my head.
I looked at them and laughed, almost as if I was watching a comedy show….
***
The fierce man got up from the crater that was formed in the ground and dizzily stood up. He looked around and heard the sound of battle in the distance. unfortunately, he couldn't see was happening there because of the trees blocking the way. He staggered forward and tried to get up.
However, he was still too dizzy. He stumbled and almost fell on the ground.
After resting for a bit, he finally was well enough to walk there. As everything was quiet, he betted that his team had taken care of the piece of shit.
He walked to the house, as he didn't see the necessity to run there anymore. He left behind a tree while saying.
"Hey buddies, did you wash your feet after having…." But he lost the words that were about to leave his throat and was stunned.
various bodies littered the courtyard, and all of them were from his teammates. The bodies were either cut in half or burnt.

Standing in the middle of the massacre, was a man drenched in blood and with a sword in his hand. The man demonically grinned and said.
"Who is the cockroach now? Are you going to crawl under my feet or are you going to stand there stunned."
The voice sounded like thunder in his ears, and he was so frightened that he took a step back and began to run from the place.
He looked around at the forest as if something was running after him, and there was!
He could see a man's shadow running between the trees and playing with his mind. The horror and terror began to take root in his mind.
He was a young master of one of the clans from the north and had awakened a powerful mutation that gave him a powerful defense. He had even evolved it to the next stage and was enjoying the best phase of his life.
And suddenly, someone that he was sure was killed by his own hands had come back like a ghost, trying to kill and terrorize him.
He stopped in place, and the silhouette began to run in circles around him, while making a circle of black fire, making sure that he couldn't escape.
The man stopped running and began to walk out of the woods. He walked through the circle of fire and looked at the man.
"This is the retribution for what you have done to me, live with it!"
After saying this, the man cut his left arm, which was the arm who wielded his weapon and left.
***
Ullach left the building and went directly to the hotel. He didn't have the mind to go to the other team today, he hoped that they still had the spot tomorrow.
Arriving in my room. I seated in the bed and looked at my hands. They were trembling! The trembling didn't come from fear or regret but from the joy of having slaughtered the fierce man team.
I was shocked by seeing the natural reaction that I had. I was afraid of what I was becoming.
I know where the feeling of joy came from, from killing people that deserved to be dead. The fierce man's team never complained or said anything about him treating a fellow diver like this, and only laughed and enjoyed watching. This was surely not the first time that they had done something like this.
Even knowing what I did and why I did it, I felt wrong on the inside. It was not that I didn't like what I did, after all, the taste of revenge was sweet. But I knew that there was something wrong with me.
My elbows were in my knees and my face buried in my hands. I remembered the letter that mas had left me and searched for my bag to find it. With the letter at hand, I began to repeatedly read it.
There was nothing more impacting them being torn apart from the inside, without having someone to rely on, without a shoulder to lean on.
I knew that if I stayed in this condition, I would probably go crazy.
I seated down on the bet and began to meditate. I manipulated my soul force and used an apprentice technique that Althaea passed to me.
I know I don't have anyone to rely on right now, but at least I had them in my memories.
I slowly manipulated my soul force and there was a sudden blackness. A door appeared in this dark room, and I went through it.
***
I was walking through the beautiful garden that was located in my clan grounds. Beautiful flowers were everywhere, and my brother was running in front of me while looking back and creating petals and throwing them at me. The beautiful petals fluttered in the air and danced around him.
The sunlight illuminating passing through the petals made the scene even more wonderful.
***
Althaea and I were eating the daily Anam and talking about the training. I used the soul force and manipulated a leave to drop on her head. She looked at me with mischievous eyes and controlled a sea of leaves to cover me. while laughing she said. "You're still too weak boy."
***
I was laying on the bed beside Hannah. We were under the cover of the sheets. We talked about many things while caressing each other. in the end, she slept on my shoulder while speaking, tightly embracing me and smiling.
***
Many happy moments passed through my head. I finally got back on track and realized that life was not so easy like some people thought it would be.
Life was full of ups and downs. The important thing was how you got through them, but even the hard moments could never erase a happy memory from a person's head. You only momentaneously forget that it is there, but it is still there!

The Eternal Vigil
The year is 2220, a time when governments and nation-states are slowly becoming a thing of the past. Instead, all prominent parts of human society are now organizing around the commands of three great Artificial Intelligences, owned and operated by the world's largest corporation. World peace has been achieved, and the very word 'politics' has disappeared from people's lips. Religion has largely disappeared, replaced in some parts by worshipping of the great AIs, but mostly substituted by a devotion to material goods and faith in the market. There is now a general consensus that the best form of government has been found. No, it is not democracy, nor is it autocracy or oligarchy. Instead, it is technocracy - rule by the learned, the intelligent, and the skilled. And who are more learned, intelligent, and skilled than the great AIs? Exactly, no one. The AIs will correct some market failures once in a while, but shall otherwise let the market be free. After all, the freer the market, the freer the people. Some may question how society advanced to this stage, but that is all they will do - question. Because they will not find answers, for history is no longer taught anywhere. After all, it is not a practical subject. One cannot get a decently paying job with a history degree. Society doesn't have any time for people to idly ponder about the past. No, this is a practical society of practical people: engineers, doctors, lawyers, developers, managers, bankers, soldiers, and the such. My name is Aiden Scivit and I used to be one such practical man: minding my own business, doing my job, with the faith that hard work will always be rewarded by the market...and that politics and philosophy were things thought of by idly people who leech off society. But this all changed, and here is my story, my history. Just because the stories of ages long past have been erased, does not mean that a brand new beginning cannot be created. The story is already finished but I still need to do some editing so a chapter should be released each day for a month. It is a bit political, as you can probably tell by the introduction, so there is that (it will low-key read like a philosophy dump 10% of the time, so really it's like Atlas Shrugged but liberal and worse lol). Also, I actually wrote this in grade 10 as part of my MYP Personal Project, and recently touched up on it for online publication. Finally, if you find the writing style passable and are interested in my other works, check out the one in the link below. It is a fantasy set in the Ancient Greek world, and is completed and uploaded in full: https://www.royalroad.com/fiction/35099/the-oresteia-modernized
