《Kalar's Continent》Chapter 16: Misconceptions

After an amazing day with his friends, Teo awoke in his comfortable feather bed, fresh and rested. The sun had already brightly illuminated his room, as he had intentionally slept late today, completely digesting the disturbing quantities of food he had consumed yesterday.
Even though it was well past breakfast time, Teo showed no signs of hurry; instead he took his sweet time to stretch himself and roll around on the bed a few times. It was the first day of the weekend and the weather was gorgeous today.
His schedule for the day had already been set and apart from the extra long Enchantment practice in the afternoon, he was mostly free. His personal plans however, left little room for dilly-dallying. It was time, to practice some Magic, maybe Goliath even had some tricks to help with that.
Teo leisurely went to wash himself and got dressed in a loose fitting, white shirt and baggy, brown pants. He would need to concentrate and be able to move properly while practicing, so his usual tight and proper attire did not quite fit the bill.
After locking the door, he made some space in the middle of the room, prepared his notebook and took out Goliath from the pouch, that was already hanging around his neck. It was time to start.
"Morning, Goliath. I am about to practice Magic now, maybe you could give me a few tips. At the very least, you should know more about Magic, than I do," he said in an unusually energetic tone.
"Good morning! Sure, I can take a look, but as you know, my magical knowledge is severely limited," replied Goliath, his voice as sonorous as always, as he materialized in a small tornado of energy.
Teo had learned, to control his Mana properly by now and he could cast the Mana threads into all the basic geometric shapes as well as combinations of them, he could even build simple three dimensional structures.
Not only did he showcase his control over Mana, to form simple patterns, he even showed an array of foundational Magic skills he had learned or thought of himself. Within a few minutes, a sturdy Mana Shield, a whip and even a Mana Bolt appeared in the room. Of course, the Mana Bolt was expertly intercepted by another shield he had cast, so as not to blow up his own room.

Teo had made a lot of progress, when it came to weaving the Mana into a usable form.
"That's it?" a disappointed voice questioned, after he had finished his last trick.
"What do you mean? Wasn't that plenty already?" Teo retorted quite upset with the rude remark, while wiping the fresh sweat from his face.
"Well, I have to admit, that your control over foundation Magic is not bad for your age. But what about practicing spells and Runes? And you surely have started to learn another Element, right?" Goliath voiced his doubts, not understanding why the boy had left out the most important parts.
"What spells? Also, Runes are only taught in the 4th year of school, I only know the few I need for Enchantments." Teo looked at the small Golem, like if he had seen a ghost, not able to properly organize his thoughts. After a short pause, he continued his protest,
"What Elements am I supposed to learn? I only have an intermediate grade Mana Affinity, I never heard of anyone having two!"
Now it was Goliath's turn, to look at Teo, speechless. He stood still for a few seconds, then began operating again.
"Oooh, boy. It seems like they didn't teach you anything so far. Maybe I can help you after all," the small Golem finally answered, after rotating his brick-head for a few turns, sounding both incredibly sceptical and slightly pleased with himself.
Teo was not suspecting good news, from the way his companion had put it, but he still sat down on the chair near his desk and listened attentively. If there really was a problem with his Magic, it was better to clarify it as soon as possible, it could give him an edge over his classmates.
"Okay, since we are not on the same page about this, how about we start with the basics?" said Goliath, only continuing, after Teo gave a short nod.
"Affinity has absolutely nothing to do, with what Elements one is able to learn! At least not on a fundamental level. It only makes comprehending an Element easier, or harder, depending on the synergy between your Affinity and the Element you are studying," Goliath said very slowly, as if talking to a caveman, not sure if he would understand.

"What?!" Teo exclaimed, jumping up from his chair; apparently he did not understand.
"I'm saying, that one's Affinity is only a shortcut to understand the Element closest to oneself. It is much harder, to grasp the other ones, but totally possible and not even rare. In fact, since you are lucky enough, to have an Affinity for Mana itself, you should be able to learn the basic control over the other Elements quite easily. This is common knowledge, I can't imagine any Magician not knowing about it."
The impliciteness, Goliath had said it with, was hard to accept for Teo. Did every Magician know about this, or had it been lost in the vortex of time? At the very least, he had never heard anything about this! But, if it was true, then it was unlikely for it to go unnoticed through the last hundreds of years, some people are bound to have tried, right?
"So, every real Magician can use all of the Elements he wants to?" Teo asked weakly.
"Of course not! It's hard work, to really understand an Element and it only gets harder with every additional one. Only real geniuses can master several Elements with equal proficiency. Normally everyone has a main Element to focus on and a few sub-Elements he has some basic control over," Goliath denied, in an agitated voice.
This seemed a lot more reasonable to Teo and explained well the existence of the system he knew of, where Magicians were classified as 'Water Mages', 'Fire Mages' and so forth, according to their Element; so he nodded a few times. It wasn't bad news at all, it seemed, like he had another shot at Fire Magic after all!
"Don't worry too much, you're still young and have plenty time to learn. You should primarily focus on improving your Mana Affinity, it is still a bit low for spells and your spiritual power probably also doesn't meet the bar yet," the small Golem said softly, trying to comfort Teo and give him a direction to work towards.
Apparently Teo had already used up all of the shock he could express in one day, as not even the fact, that one's natural Affinity could be improved, surprised him anymore.
"Alright, I have no idea, what you are talking about, but what would I need to do, in order to become a Magician?" Teo decided, to just save himself the effort of suffering a mental breakdown after every second sentence and directly asked, what was most essential to him. His mind was young and flexible after all, so he had an easy time, accepting these revelations.
"That is a hard question, but whatever. Since you have only awakened your Mana Sense and practiced your Mana Control so far, you will have to start all the way from the bottom," Goliath answered truthfully. He continued after a few seconds, when he saw the expectant look in Teo's eyes. He did not want to crush the boy, telling him that he had barely scratched the surface of Magic yet, but Teo was obviously eager to learn.
"I suggest, you start with accelerated Enrichment and pre-condensing your Mana Core as soon as possible."

"I'm Screwed" ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This story uses the system derived by Puddles4263 in Randidly Ghosthound. I've incorporates the Path's system into the leveling of this story. Some of the beginning paths will be similar or the same as I thought that the starting paths were very logical on how a system should start. The stories will be completely different as the characters and story arcs will be completely different. Again, thank you Puddles for allowing me to use your system, really appreciate it! I also wanted to thank ProFound Magician. Has a lot of insight into a story development and as his system is based on Ghosthound, I saw a some beginning stage skills that should be thought of in a character just starting out. If you haven't yet read Ghosthound or Genesis System you're in for a real treat when you do! Thank you both I hope my use is seen as an homage in the beginning. Hopefully my story can live up to the system.

The Last Journey
A slice of life litrpg story... or is it? It's burning slow, though. Moving on: War comes with a great cost. Lives and time wasted for most part. One could either be run with sword, be poisoned, be bowed, and sometimes meet their end with just a tiny speck of wood. With magic, it becomes even more colorful. From lightning, to worse poison, to hovering rocks, to weird bladed leaves, to whipping roots, and to a lot more odd things easily reasoned with magic. A wonderful creation. But once used to something more than wonder, more than tricks to gather laughs, it becomes worse. War becomes worse. For there is not only blood to be spilled. A particular town almost met the same end. Soldiers geared with swrords and bows came with mounts. Horses burning lush grasses as it cracked boulders and the soil alike with every step. The kind that only war ones could ever do. Even strange wheeled creations that oozed danger were towed, loaded with something meant to destroy. But not once had they acted upon what such devices should've done, nor what an an army is supposed to do. Siege never occurred, as much as a command to war. No. Magic existed so a simple little fire is all the worth the town has. No sword drawn, no arrows nocked, nothing. Just some mana spent and through the ash they march. That was how Nudius saw her end. It came not even as a surprise. She didn't have the moment to fully register what occurred before she found herself in an empty dark space. Life lost, time spent. All from a fire that had not even touched her. But she knew very well that it was magic. Something she wished to have and strived for to have. Yet it seemed that none of it would matter now. Nudius was well aware of what the color around meant, of the odd situation, of the unfeeling state of her being. It was death and that was it. She didn't have to worry or dream further. Although there wasn't what she truly wanted in what death to her is, but at least, Nudius was comforted to what she believed death is. Rest. But little did she know there's something more than that empty space. It wasn't only the promise of rest, but was also more than she could ever hope for. Another chance at life. Another chance to dream. ***Tags are there just in case. You never know! Umm... HI-MI-TSU. Story blurb+: This is slow burn, quite slice of life story about a girl learning magic. All the while as she fatten herself up. So yeah, progression fantasy. But there's Litrpg! Numbers! Magic! Spells! And of course! There's something more. But read on ahead, please. Oh yes. Plot! There is, too. Disclaimer: The cover isn't made by me. Just layered it with a text. I got it from a free website, if I correctly recall. I'll see to it. (Haven't worked on it.)
