《Army of one》Chapter 9 : Starting the Base?

Midnight , Inside the goblins den.
A figure shrouded within the dark was making their way through the dungeon tunnels, slipping into the shadows and sneaking past the sleeping Gary’s. One misstep and they would be caught right in the act, carefully watching their footwork they avoided discarded clothes, food scraps and clubs, slowly creeping closer to its target.
The target himself was fast asleep, unguarded and vulnerable for attacks. When our assailant was less than a meter away, they made their move.
{SMOOCH!}
“Heh heh got you ‘Mr Hunter’.”(???)
“!!!!...what..y-..ou..d..ing?” (Gary 5)
“Hehe, what? Do you want me to stop?”(???)
{Smooch} x 2
“I..I didn’t say that, anyway aren’t you on shift tonight?” (Gary 5)
“Yeah but I got someone to cover, it cost me a Wamba Berry. But it’s worth it if I can spend some time with you!” (???)
“Jeez 4, you should have told me. I would have made myself decent” (Gary 5)
“You’re pretty decent to me” (Gary 4)
“Ha ha, that’s a pretty corny one” (Gary 5)
“Well I am a Farmer” (Gary 4)
“Yeah and I’m a Hunter who’s caught their prey!” (Gary 5)
“!!!”
So the two lovebirds spent a wonderful night together in the romantic Goblin Den, all within earshot of the other inhabitants.

“Alright guys it’s time to move” (OG)
The Gary’s were all gathered around a crude wooden table that Gary 2 was quite proud of, and were eating breakfast when the Original Gary declared his goal for the day.
“What why? I thought the Goblin Den was pretty good, though the smell could use some fixing but it’s the only natural shelter around here. 5 still hasn’t found anything during his hunts” (Gordon)
“Hmm yes, there are two main reasons to move. Number One is that having someone always awake to kill Goblins is taxing. Look at 4, he’s haggard this morning. No offence but 4 you look like shit, you’ve got bite marks and smell of sweat.”
“He he..Ah! None taken boss” (Gary 4)
Gary 5 winked at 4 while licking his lips, every one else saw this except Original as he was still rambling to the group.
“ Secondly the noise is getting too much. I can barely sleep, all I heard last night was those goblins groaning and screaming. “ (original)

“!!!” (Gary 5)
This time it was Gary 4 who was smirking at Gary 5, everyone else just rolled their eyes at the flirting.
“Okay but that doesn’t solve the problem of no other shelters “ (Gerald)
“Ha, well you know the old saying…If we can’t find one we BUILD one!” (Original Gary)
“I don’t think that’s a saying” (Gorden)
“Shush you, here’s the plan”. (Original Gary)
***
“Unit 5 take those logs to lot 7, after that take a five minute break”
“Unit 7 I’m still waiting on those bricks”
“Unit 2 keep up the great work!”
The area outside the Goblins Den that has been claimed as Gary’s territory was abuzz with activity, trees were cut down and moved to the location where a defensive wall was being built. After log shifting next a group of Garys came and removed the stumps to make a clearing for the expansion the farm. Mud bricks were formed and dried by the Fire Mages by the dozens, To then be carried out to be assembled together like a giant LEGO house.
“Ha good thing I watched some of those “Primitive Technology” videos.” (OG)
“ So we go from a stone floor to a dirt floor?” ( Gorden)
“Tsk, you have no vision this is progress! This is the start of our base of operations, yes it’s dirt now but soon it will be brick then concrete!” (OG)
“ Do you even know how to make concrete?” ( Gorden)
“ I’m sure I will remember it later, anyway let’s check in with the supervisor” (OG)
Right in the center of the construction there was a Gary directing others, he was wearing a construction helmet made from some unknown orange turtle monster that Gary 5 killed, the two approached the man who was clearly in charge of the whole project.
“ How’s the construction going? Any problems?” (OG)
“Good, None so far Boss! A little slow in some areas due to the lack of proper equipment, but nothing that more Gary’s couldn’t fix” ( Overseer Gary)
“Yes it’s unfortunate that we lack any metal, Gerald’s doing his best with the monster parts and stone but being stuck in the Stone Age is not Ideal” (OG)
‘ Sigh... Gary 2 is no miracle worker, I wonder if there’s such a job as [Miracle Worker]? Heh heh, anyway we should find a source of ore soon.‘ (OG’s Brain)

“ How many Gary’s do we have working at the moment?” Gorden asked while the boss was chuckling to himself.
Overseer Gary bent down and looked at the many stone tablets strewn about on the floor, each containing various instructions about the project [OPERATION: GARY BASE 1]. He soon found the one he was looking for and gave it to Gorden.
“5 groups of lumbergarys, each group consisting of ten. 50 total.
20 brickmakers , 6 of those fire mages including your disciple Boss.
8 bricklayers.
10 stump removers and 5 farmers.
2 groups of 10, digging the moat.
6 for miscellaneous/errand work,
and just 5 for the cafeteria."
"In total we have 124 Gary’s , 120 of which were newly created for the project.” (Supervisor Gary)
“That’s a lot of Gary’s” (Gorden)
“Yup, and all cheap too” (OG)
You’re paying them?” (Gorden)
“No, they are all volunteering” (OG)
“ So it’s slavery then” (Gorden)
“ Yeah I guess, though I’d take a page out of history. The Romans made a great empire, were known for their construction, and it turned out alright for them.” (OG)
“..But isn’t slavery wrong?” (Gorden)
“Why?” OG and supervisor Gary both asked.
“Because degrading a human to a level of an object is ethically wrong! They have a right to be human, you know? human rights!” (Gorden)
“But they aren’t human.” (OG)
“Of course they are!” (Gorden)
“ Open your status, what does it say?” (OG)
“What?”(Gorden)
“O.P.E.N IT” (OG)
---------------------------------
Name: Gorden Harne (Clone Tier 1)
--------------------------------
“....” (Gorden)
“Exactly, a [clone] not a human. Now this doesn’t mean you are going to be treated terribly. You are me, a Gary through and through. Just because you are like slaves doesn’t mean you are slaves. The only comparison is that you aren’t getting paid, you are more like... interns.” (Og)
“ The skills I’m teaching them can be applied in many areas, I’m not forcing them to work or treating them in humanly, clonely? We are all trying to survive this together as a collective no.. as a family” (OG)
“ There’s something screwy with your logic” (Gorden)
“ Well at the end of the day it doesn’t matter what they are, as long as they are fed, safe and got a warm bed for the night they will be content.” (OG)
“ But they don’t have beds” (Gorden)
“That’s why we are building huts” (OG)
“And how many are we making?” (Gorden)
“About 8, enough for the top brass and a extra for storage” (OG)
“I see...that was the plan before construction, but now with all these new Garys..where do they sleep?” (Gorden)
“....”
“...Goblin Den?” (OG)
***
“Bloody hell! What are we gonna do with all these new Gary’s?! It’s taking this long to make these huts, how long do you think it would take to make enough for everyone?!” (Gorden)
“Should I be here for this?” (Overseer Gary)
“ Calm down Gorden, I’ve got a plan. You didn’t think I would be so foolish? Ha ha have some faith in your boss.” (OG)
“Y-you have a plan? What is it? A new class? An abandoned village?” (Gorden)
“Ha no, since it will take so long to make that many houses the solutions pretty simple...more Gary’s!” (OG)
“Son of a b-“ (Gorden)
{GAAAAAAAAAARRRR} (???)
“What was that?!” (All Garys)
“I don’t know but it sounds like it’s getting closer” (Overseer Gary)
“What are we going to do?” (Gorden)
“What do you mean we? Isn’t your job security?” (OG)
“!!!"
"This isn’t over, you’re not getting away from this” (Gorden)
“Man he really sounds like a villain, doesn’t he? (OG)
“...” (Overseer)
Gorden quickly ran inside to grab his trusty weapon that Gerald generously made for him.

The Huntsman's Quest (An Urban Magic Quest/RPG)
Jon Whitaker went to summer camp expecting a nice relaxing time as a newly minted counselor in training. He was not expecting to fight an army of monsters, work with a serial killer, enter a one-sided friendship with an eldritch horror, or study under a competing witch and dark lord. But regardless of what he was expecting, his summer is over and he's made his way back home where he can try and return to a normal -for him- life. Too bad life rarely goes as expected. --- Please Note: This is forum quest/RPG I run in the same city/setting as my other stories Hacking Reality and Get Ink'd, meaning that while a majority of the plot is made up by me, the major choices as well as what each chapter is about are usually made by the actual readers in forum votes. Additionally, given how this is essentially a story version of a Tabletop game there is also a background RPG system that while the characters aren't necessarily aware of, the readers can see these stats to know how each chosen 'Action' effects their character's development.

Unprotected Sects
When freshly-graduated Dr. Selva Imroth accepted a short job from her former doktormutter, she had expected to interview a few PhD washouts and write a report to the Dean. Unfortunately for Selva, everything in her life has to be an ordeal. Updates every weekday, but not on the weekend. I hadn't planned on doing NaNoWriMo, but then on Halloween night I was sharing an old plot bunny with a new friend and realized, "oh shit I can actually use this." So, here we are. Thanks, friend. In true NaNoWriMo fashion, I will not be using my typical editing process here, and will instead simply vomit words onto your screen as quickly as possible, trying valiantly to avoid asking myself "oh my god who CARES" because tangents are important to wordcount.
