《Army of one》Chapter 8: Classes and Clones

Original Gary POV:
It's been one week since our transfer and everyone's settled into the goblin den that we've now affectionately referred to as home. The first week took its toll on us , we still had trouble securing the necessities like enough food and water for everyone. Also add being on guard for enemies too that. Let's just say that we were glad when the Garys chose their classes.
Gorden ( previously known as Gary one), continued to progress in his class as a [Fighter], because of him we learned more about the system and classes.
We figured out that classes are available when a person reaches level 5, the types of classes differ for people based on certain actions, so everybody here has managed to unlock the [Fighter] class.
The Tester or "Gunter" (he also betrayed me and changed his name!) concluded it was unlocked through ....fighting! Who would have thought? There was some other stuff but I’ll let him explain that. Gorden also decided to buy some skills, he used his SP (skill points) to buy three skills.
___
[Basic strength] (passive)
[strength increase + 0.2 , increase skill levels to increase amount of strength gained]
[Basic endurance ] (passive)
(Endurance increase + 0.2 , increase skill levels to increase amount of Endurance)
[Basic hand to hand combat skill] (Active)
(The skill to fight with your hands! Unlocks Attack , block, parry)
___
There were other active skills to buy, but those required the use of weapons. The skill [Club] was buyable right now, but he just swung a stick at a couple of goblins and BAM! he got it .
"It seems some skills aren't class restricted, more investigation required..maybe we should kidnapp- 'ask' the natives?" Gary thought.
Anywho, Each skill costs 1 SP, for people without classes they only get 1SP per level up. Those with classes get an increased amount of skill points when they level up, not much though only 1 or 2 sp increase. But who needs classes? Not me! I don't care if you can block my fireballs! Not one bit!
Ha ha ..anyway , Gunter says to not get tempted to choose a class (I'm starting to regret putting him in charge of class research). Who cares if we have an army only consisting of just Fire mages? Wouldn't the best way to conquer the world is by overwhelming firepower?! But nooooo.. Gunter rejected my proposal quickly, I bet he's just jealous of my talent with Fire Magic.

Not to brag, but I got a skill related to mana without a class! Take that Gorden!
[Basic Mana control] (Active)
(Can control mana at a crude level without a stick medium)
That was fun to show off- I mean, demonstrate the strength of their mighty boss GARY!
It was so impressive Gunter had me teach it to everyone else, because someone didn't want to die and get re-cloned! So after acquiring that skill I spent my days teaching the rest of the group, dungeon grinding and daily reports from my minions.
Myself and others are already level 8, I don't know how hard it is to level in this world but once we figured out that the boss mage (not me but the goblin) respawns everyday! So our leveling up went pretty quick. We also got another fire stick, so I [Cloned] another Gary to become my disciple. He of course knew everything I did so he was a quick learner, he will surpass his master soon but I won't tell him that yet!
Gerald (Gary 2) surprisingly took to tailoring pretty well, I didn't think I had it in me! Using the fur from the weird wolves (not official name) he made some itchy but wearable clothes and bedding.
[Civilization Level UP!]
[Passed the naked animal stage!]
Heh heh, so Gerald earned some brownie points with us for that. Unfortunately he didn't have any luck with creating weapons or tools, The most we got was some rock knives and monster claws on sticks. It will do for now but he's nowhere near being called a Master Smith, we gave him a bit of sh*t for that and He felt so depressed that he resigned himself into the class [Handyman].
[Handyman]
(A Jack of all trades and master of none, a job for those who like to use their hands in crafting. Slight correction when crafting. +2 to dex +1 wisdom. 1 Ap and 2 sp per level )
At least it was better than a [Housewife]! Which was an option from when he cleaned up our mess. We decided to treat Gerald better after that day, it seems he was the sensitive one in our group.
Number four and five were the only ones loyal to me and kept their given names. They also like to spend a lot of time together..in private? Oh well, I think it's nice that they get along well enough to share a fur bed. Gerald didn't have enough fur to make one for all of us so I was grateful when they volunteered to share one, they even kept declining having another one made when we did have more fur, saying that "We all have to make sacrifices for the group, this is ours."

Ha! If they think this will get them out of other duties, then they can think again! I'm onto your scheme 4 and 5.
Oh and their classes were [Hunter] and [Farmer], [Hunter] was similar to [Fighter] except that there was a [dismantle] and [harvesting] skill, most skills revolved around hunting for food or increasing the harvested amount. [Farmer] got increased [plant growth] and [yield increased], yup boring skills. I almost feel bad for them that they don't have fire skills.
Almost.
Last in line is Gunter (The Tester), nothing suited him yet, of course I doubt that MAD SCIENTIST is a class but whatever. He is the lowest level out of all of us, level 5. Even my young disciple (Gary 7) is level 6!
Gunter just wanted to unlock classes and then focus on his "experiments". I'm glad that he's devoted to his job but long story short, I am no longer upset about the death of Gary 3 . Gunter, having access to infinite human test subjects was akin to a kid in a china shop, or perhaps a bull in a candy shop? The memories of those "lab Garys" as he put it, kept assaulting me daily and then preceded to haunt my nightmares, sigh... being the boss is tough.
***
"How many Garys is that?"
"37, give or take."
" Jesus Gunter , I don't think this is going to work. They all die in one hit, you should've leveled up more. Your clones are too weak."
" My clones are fine for the purpose of testing, it's you that's the problem. You're putting too much power into the spell, we're not just trying to get [Fire resistance] here. This is the best way to raise your level of control."
" Sigh..why can't you get the Boss to do this? I'm sure he would be eager." (Fire Gary Disciple)
" We both know your level of control over fire is better than him, no matter how high his [Basic mana control] is, up against your class bonus it's nothing." (Gunter)
"..don't tell him I said that, he will just pick a class out of anger .” (Gunter)
"-and singe your ass too, another reason to level up"
" Yes yes, but my work is more important than leveling. Now, ready another [Fireball], the next Gary's ready." (Gunter)
" Each time is as painful as the last, but at least...I feel something. Hopefully this will be my final death though". (Lab Gary 38)
"Shut up and brace yourself! I swear they just get more and more depressed each time" (Gunter)
" Well can you blame them? Their entire existence is to die." (Emo Gary)
...
Let's roll back a bit, when Gunter asked for people to test his experiments on, no one volunteered. So big boss OG created Gary's to be used, but then they died, then the next one and so on...Having enough of the constant 'accidents' and wasting his mana on cloning, OG created a Gary that's only job is to create more Garys. Garys to be used in experiments. Though he just wanted to save on mana, it had the unintentional result of stopping the nightmares. It turns out that experiences are only inherited by the direct cloner parent. Meaning that only the Clones created by The Original Gary upon death get absorbed, but the clones of his clones go to their respective parent clones.
So the Clone (Emo Gary) that OG made to make all the sacrificial clones, receives all the memories of the death instead of The Original Gary.
Well at least until Emo Gary dies...
Back to the action!
"FIRE!" (Fire Gary Disciple)
"AAUUGHHH!!!" (Emo Gary 38 )
"Oh he lived, still pretty crispy though" (Gunter)
"Well of course he did, I am a Fire Mage! I can control it to that much!" (Fire Gary Disciple)
"Magic's not the only thing that you've learnt from the boss." (Emo Gary)
" Well I -" (Fire Gary Disciple)
"NEXT!" (Gunter)
So the fire mage and the scientist kept their experiments going for the rest of the day, it wasn't until lucky Emo Gary 50 that they managed to acquire the skill [Fire resistance]. With proof of resistance skills, it was enough to test if the skill [Club resistance] existed.

The Desecrator's Tomb - A Numbers Lit-aRPG
A man appears in a dungeon full of undead. He tries to leave. This is my attempt at writing a litrpg where the system is more formalized. This means that there will be a fair amount of min-maxing and we will hopefully be able to calculate the dps of every ability by the time I am done. Expect math. The main character will become a Drain Tank. This story uses an aRPG item and stat system. Oh and one last thing. Beware the penguins. update 1/8/22: I am trying to simulate things as faithfully as is reasonable. As of chapter 17 there are animated gifs depicting Chilly's life throughout encounters. update 1/11/22: Kreksyte drew me a cover! All hail our artist overlords! update 5/25/22: Going on hiatus for a bit. The second arc is complete. Will come back for the 3rd and final arc soon. update 7/15/22: ayy...I've returned. Starting the third and final arc. [was once a participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]
