《Sea Paradise》Catch no. 1: Beginning

For Over Centuries Fishers have existed on planet earth. And at the same time fishers have existed, a myth has been roaming around the fishing community, a legendary place, like a fishers paradise, where the tastiest fish exists.
But the rumor was true, every 70 years giant flying fish come to different destinations every to bring with them sea water. What purpose do they have, where do they go to, why do they have wings, and many more questions need to be answered.
The obvious conclusion was to hop on to these fish and follow them.
In theory all of this sounds good, but when executed goes horrible, since a big war happens between fishers just to be able to ride these fish. Obviously, a lot of fishers die because of the war, and even those who manage to hop on, are only as big as one scale on the fish, most of them only fall to the water and die.
The flying fish cause a phenomenon called Caeli accentus (climate stress), making the five different climates, depending on the location, change the weather making the climate more intense and deadly.
One day a group of six male friends made their way to the flying fish, it is said that they had menacing aura, and no one dared to touch them. They made their way and hopped on the fish, and they were never to be seen again. Until one day while a fisher was fishing, he saw a man lying on the water floating, he hurried and saved the man.
The man slowly gained consciousness, suddenly he opened his eyes wide open and started coughing.
After some time, he started talked, he was one of the ones who made it to the Sea paradise. When he was asked how it was, the response was worse than hell.
Shortly after that, news broke out about him coming back, there were a lot of questions about sea paradise, health and much more, but one question was the most asked one and the one that was the most important one, where were the rest.
The response the public got was ''they were taken away, serving in the Sea Paradise army''. The reactions were all over the place, with even more questions swarming in. Days later the man disappeared, police were assigned to the investigation, but after 4 days of searching, he was officially dead, even when they found no body. The news broke out fast, and it is said that was when the era of fishing really started growing.
''Say gramps, why haven't you tried growing'' my grandson asked.
''Well, I can tell you about that another day'' I replied still sitting on my chair and my grandson Hayato lying on the floor looking at me.
His face said that he was expecting more.
''Well, you see, I have only seen the fish one time when i was fifteen years old, it was from a distance'' I said.
Hayato was quiet and was listening.
''The scenery was beautiful, for the first time in my life i saw glittering snow falling from the sky, the sky was deep purple and i could see the shining light of the fish'' i kept talking.
”Well, how old are you now gramps?” Hayato asked me quietly.
”well I am 76 years old now, 70 years hasn’t passed yet” I answered Hayato with a smile on my face.

”was that all to the story” Hayato asked me.
”Yes it is Hayato, now do you want to go out fishing” I asked him.
”Yay!!” Hayato shouted and started running.
I could not help but to smile, Hayato is such a nice grandchild, I am happy to raise him.
2 years have passed since then, and now I am sitting at the hospital. They had diagnosed me with stage 2 cancer.
The doctors said that they have only 10% chance of helping me. I looked up to the lamp, it reminded me of the light of the fish, it was a light hard to describe, it had a special feel to it that i had never felt in my life.
I could hear Hayato crying outside of my room, it was a cry of pain. I pressed the button that was next to me, the doctors told me to push the button when i needed help.
A doctor came in and sat on the chair that was next to my bed, he looked down at me with a smile.
”Can I help you with anything Mr. Toshiro” the doctor asked me.
”Would you mind letting the boy crying outside come in, I am his only family member still alive” I told him with a smile.
”Oh OfCourse” the doctor replied and went outside. A few seconds after Hayato came in, tears were running down his cheek, runny nose, and red eyes.
”Hayato come sit next to me” I told him. He walked slowly rubbing his eyes. He sat down and stopped rubbing his eyes, he looked at me and tried to make a smile but failed miserably.
”Hayato, I only have a brief time left with you, but before I go on, I want you to keep 2 promises” I asked him with a smile on my face. Hayato rubbed his eyes quickly.
”What is it, I will do whatever you want” he said with enthusiasm.
”I want you to get a Pro fishing license and ride to the Sea paradise and eat the special fish” I told him.
”W-What’s the second promise” he asked me.
I went down to my pocket and took out a purple shining stone and handed it out to Hayato.
”When you’re on your way to the Sea paradise, throw this at your friend when he is damaged the most, and don’t hesitate” I told him with a serious look on my face.
He closed his hand and looked at me, i could see the burning passion in his eyes.
”I promise you that I will eat that fish Gramps” he screamed.
I suddenly started coughing uncontrollably, I quickly pushed the button, and a doctor came in, she did not even waste a second without yelling at the other doctors.
”Patient number 6 is ready” she yelled.
Suddenly a swarm of doctors came in and took me away, I could faintly hear Hayato crying. That was the last thing i ever heard. The last thing I felt was a tear running down my cheek.
13 Years Later
”Hey Chewchew, don’t you think it's nice sitting on this cliff, feeling the wild on your face while fishing” I asked while fishing.
”Woof” was my reply, I am not surprised since it is coming from a dog.
Suddenly I heard 2 people screaming my name from a distance. I put down my fishing rod and looked back to no surprise I saw Kubo and Taguchi running towards me.

Kubo and Taguchi have been my friends since childhood, they lived nearby so it was easy for us to play around. Kubo is a chubby, brown-haired kid who loves to play Pokémon, Taguchi was small, tall with dark purple hair, he always looks tired.
It looks like their lessons have ended for the day. They slowly climbed up the cliff, it was only a couple of steps.
”How have you been Hayato” Kubo asked me while huffing.
”Just the usual, fishing with Chewchew” I replied.
”Have you caught anything” Taguchi asked.
”Nothing yet” I answered.
I turned around and saw Chewchew sleeping, he must’ve been really tired all this time, poor thing.
”Say, how was class for today” I asked both of them.
”Easy as ever” Taguchi answered with confidence.
”I thought studying to become a doctor was going to be harder” Kubo answered.
I was happy for them, I wish i could have gone to school like they do, but fishing is my only alternative. Ever since Gramps died, things became tough.
I had to adapt to a new living style, getting food by myself, washing clothes by myself. I was happy to find Chewchew when going downtown on the road, thanks to him I haven't been feeling so lonely anymore.
These 2 years have been fun having a companion.
”Well, we have to go now” Kubo said
”We have an upcoming test soon; we don’t want to fail that” Taguchi said while they went down for the cliff.
I waved back and then went back to pick up my fishing rod.
I pulled it up to see that my worm had been eaten, I quickly replaced it and put it back. Out of nowhere I could see a dark shadow in the water, it was big as ever, I was ready to catch it.
It suddenly took the catch and started taking down the fishing rod with it, but i was not letting it do it. I could feel myself tense up and slowly trying to pull up the fishing rod, after battling with the fish it finally came up, it started shining.
It was beautiful, its dark blue skin with long and fluffy fins were flapping behind it. Its eyes were dark green with 2 circles, one was the index and the second was going around it.
Its tail was like an eel’s tail but looking closely there was another smaller one of the Fiseel, a clear sign of a shoal of Fiseel. I quickly snatched the two Fiseel and put them in my large box filled with ice.
I took out my fishing net and extended it to two meters, then I put it down to the ocean and waited until the Fiseel was caught.
One after one I got caught with the net and I quickly put them in the box. I couldn't imagine how much money i would get for selling these to a local fish market, but i kept my thoughts away and focused on the fish.
After some minutes no more fish were getting caught. I pulled up my net and put it to its normal length and put it in my backpack. I looked at Chewchew, he was energetic as always, I did not realize it because I was too focused on fishing.
I took everything with me and made myself ready to sell the fish to the local fish market.
It was sunset, the perfect time to sell my fish. I went to the back of the store to hopefully find my friend Yamasaki.
Ever since my grandpa died, Yamasaki has always been there, like a brother. He has short blonde hair, usually looking friendly but has attitude. His goal in life was always to work for a fishing market.
He was about to take the garbage out when i greeted him, he looked back and smiled.
”Yo Hayato, long time no see” he said.
”Long time no see Yamasaki, how have you been” I asked him.
”I've been doing good, just the usual, i see that you and Chewchew have been working hard” he said.
”Yeah we have, but it's just what we have to do” I replied.
”Yeah i guess so, I can see that you have also caught some fish, no” he asked.
”Yeah I have, mind if I can open the box inside” I asked.
”Of course, no problem, you’re welcome in” he said with a friendly voice.
As soon as I went in I was greeted by the chef and owner Takao Hase. He had the biggest smile in the world, but sadly his moustache was hiding it all.
”How have you been Hayato” he said with a cheerful laugh.
”I have been doing good, how has the store been doing” I asked.
”Perfect, but I see that it might be even get better” he said.
”Oh yes it will” I said while laughing.
The other employees were cleaning up the place while I, Takao and Yamasaki were going to open the box. As soon as I opened the box a blinding light came out, but the light suddenly stopped, you could see the fish shining.
”These look perfect Hayato, when did you catch them” Takao asked with a big smile on his face.
”Just earlier today” I answered.
”It looks like there are about ten of these Fiseels, how much do you want, 2 thousand yen, 2 thousand and fifty” he asked.
”Two thousand is fine” I answered.
”Well then, it looks like It’s a deal” Takao said and shook my hand.
I couldn’t help but smile all the time. I talked with Yamasaki and Takao for a bit and then left off.
It looked like it was about to get dark, so I went quickly to buy some sushi and went home. While eating sushi i was talking with Chewchew, it felt like he was more talkative than ever.
”Say Chewchew, i turned 20 a week ago, when do you think the applications for the fishing exams open up” I asked.
Chewchew replied with a woof and went back to eating the sushi. I cannot wait anymore; I must get a pro fishing license soon!
After that we were done eating, I put Chewchew to sleep and went to sleep myself too. All I could think about was the fishing license, I need to keep my promise to Gramps, I promised him that i would make it to Sea Paradise!

‘Great, no… splendid. It was for naught.’ ‘Naught? Depends. If your desire is to send an army of killers our family’s way, yes indeed. If it’s plain survival you seek, then no.’ ‘They don’t coexist?’ ‘What… don’t tell me you’re still all groggy from the fall. Perhaps in novels, but real life is much tougher–––many more times a drag than anyone can possibly imagine. If dusty history is not a reliable teacher for you, then the pandemic surely took that place. At least that one has the advantage you needn’t be literate to savvy how reality always trumps imagination.’ ‘Whatever you say, whatever you say. So… what now?’ ‘Now? Isn’t it obvious? Now we shall survive. And live a good life.’ ‘Ohh… pretty much everything here has something against this little weird wish of ours. Might you consider?’ ‘Then pretty much everything here is a goner.’ ‘Hm, I don’t like the sound of that. Too much trouble, you see. I’d prefer laying low somewhere safe.’ ‘…nobody told you it’s mutually exclusive, no–––or did you forget about that too?’ ‘Fine, then I wish my future enemies all the best.’ ‘They are undeserving of your pity.’ ‘Of course not. That unlucky bunch won’t ever comprehend the reason behind their demise. Just let me smoke in peace and offer my condolence in advance.’ ‘Idem, let me study alchemy, unobstructed by all, if possible. This also includes you. By the way, are you sure you smoke to offer condolences? It seems like an excuse to me.’ ‘I-it is none. Plain truth, you see?’ ‘Seriously, why did I even ask...?’

8 179A Portal Fantasy Comedy Poem
Mix an adolescent shepherd boy in love with a girl who wants to meet existentialists, a Viscount in need of an adventure, and a bland psychic. Add in a flippant god. Put them in a land made up of the after-lives of various different cultures. Stir gently. Sprinkle in some random Midgard Serpent, Genghis Khan, Scheherazade, and a cussing mocking bird. Fry lightly. Season to taste and serve with desired garnishes. Bon apetit! A comic fantasy poetic epic, filled with misfits, slapstick routines, light romance, people shouting out the names of their battle skills before using them, old philosopher dudes running around naked, a very serious lamb, demonic knitting, battery operated magic swords and even more traumatising stuff! I experimented with different styles in the beginning and finally settled on an ABABBCBC rhyme scheme (Give me your 0.5s. Gimme, gimme, gimme. I'm collecting them, seriously)
