《The Dark Times》Article 35 - Birthdays, for those in the shadows

With an eclectic mix of creatures that hide themselves within the shadow of humanity but they all have Birthdays or Creday, Creday are special birthdays for species like the vampire or werewolf, sentient windiego’s and ghosts where they celebrate their creation or new birth, however they wish to call it.
And every creature has their own different way of doing so, So in this article we’ll be exploring three such species and will look at Vampires, Fairies and Ghosts.
The first we’ll be looking at Vampires. There are two types of vampires the created and the born, when a vampire is born they are marked with their houses coat of arms, whereas when a Vampire is created they’re marked by the crest of the individual Vampire that created them.
These Crest or coat of arms have a magical element too them we don’t know the all the details, however what we’ve realised through several reported accidents is that these marking have some for of suppression of the their bloodlust, every year after their birth or after their 20th birthday, they remove small parts of the seal allowing them to get used to the bloodlust so that they don’t lose control and will have to be put down. It usually takes a 100 years to release the full crest, and they inherit their full power which they can then develop on their own.
Fairies on the other hand don’t have the same birthday structure as most mortals don’t celebrate one year as it is such a short amount of time, they don’t even think about a decade, they only celebrate every century, during these events they have their wings clipped. This is because of their slow growth by the time they get to the next century their body has grown and their small wing can no longer support them. With these wings they can do what they like, sell them for a fortune or consume them to help with the growth of new wings.

There is no known maximum size for fairies to stop growing the older one gets the larger they are. The largest ever recorded was a metre tall and could destroy city districts with a wave of their hand. As they grow they also change their attitude. A fairy only a few hundred years old is mischievous, whereas a thousand year old would be calm, collected and a bit jaded.
And once they become a ten millennium old they tend to voluntarily die where they’re consumed by the children they produce at their death.
Then for Ghosts obviously they have a unique perspective of celebrating their un-life, first It depends on what race they were before turning into a ghost as one may very well be a fairy and may never celebrate it’s Creday. But then there are what side of the belief they fall on, as there are ghost groups who see being a ghost as a prize to be worshipped and celebrated so they celebrate their un-life every year. However you were part of the Feast of sins the this was purgatory where every year they existed as a ghost and failed to move on would get shaming days were they’d get together as torture there immortal shells. Then there are the more normal individuals that enjoy setting goals to live so long as a ghost or some groups have huge parties every doubling of their Creday’s.
There is quite a bit of theory that those who celebrate their life as a ghost tend to pass over faster than those who punish themselves, it’s often the perspective as they see what the didn’t do what they should’ve done in life, and either forgive themselves or accomplish those wish which causes them to pass on.
Ofcourse sinse those how punish themselves for not passing over and torture themselves for it, they have not been able to find out what the likelyhood of ghosts in their groups for passing over. So If you are reading this and are a part of this group please send out a thought getting in contact with the ADI ghost department. They only wish to see the best way of getting individuals to pass over as peacefully as possible so you could help the ever increasing volume of ghosts.

This fiction is no longer supported. Climb. Kill. Become Deathless. Rhen yearns for the magic to save his home realm from the devastating Kavga invasion. To earn that power, he must first survive the trials of the Deathless Guardian. But it’s not just Rhen and his psi-pal looking to join the Deathless guild, and their rivals will stop at nothing to secure a position. If they fail to defeat their tower in time, Rhen will be sent home, dishonored and powerless.
