《Mythological Weapons》Chapter 7: The chief Orc's might

The goblin riders all jumped into action at the same time, charging at us with their weapons drawn out.

The earth mage quickly cast a spell on the ground, elevating parts of the floor to abrupt the dashing monsters.

They tried dodging all the sudden changes to the ground, but they couldn’t predict where the next change would occur, and so they were stopped in their tracks.

Three of the goblin riders managed to get much closer, but they were met with a strong wind cutter spell, fired by the wind mage, that cut them in halves and ended their short lives.

The others were immediately trapped by earth walls made by the earth mage, and the fire mage launched several fire shots, burning them to death.

After the quick death of the first wave of monsters, the hobgoblins didn’t waste much time and attacked us all at the same time, like their precedents. They took their clubs from the ground and started running towards us.

We divided our party into three teams. Each team took care of one of the hobgoblins.

Joshua stopped the attack of the first hobgoblin, whilst Clara shot him with several arrows, hitting him in his legs, making him unable to dodge the next attack that was prepared by the water mage.

She conjured dozens of water orbs, and shot them directly at the monster, and severely damaging him.

Finally, Joshua charged at him with his shield, using one of his offensive skills, and crushed the already heavily injured monster to shreds.

Meanwhile, I parried the attack of the second hobgoblin and used a counter to strike him and injure him in his big belly.

The wind mage took this chance and fired several wind cutters that made the wound that I inflicted even bigger, making the monster lose more blood.

The final hit was brought by the earth mage, who made a big rock punch and slammed the hobgoblin flat.

The third hobgoblin was also quickly taken care of by Leo, George, and the fire mage.

George entered a melee fight with the monster. He blocked all his club attacks with his bare body and retaliated with his punches. Each punch packed a tremendous force that could destroy the toughest of iron gates.

Then the fire mage created homing fireballs that kept going after the hobgoblin until they all hit him, bringing him down to his knees, all burnt and broken, and then Leo dealt the finishing blow by slashing his head off with a swing of his spear.

Fighting in waves was one of the chief Orc’s strategies. As I was told by George, the boss of this dungeon used different strategies to take down his opponents. From various traps, to sneak attacks and fighting in waves. He tried making us get tired, and then finish us without breaking a sweat.

Unfortunately for him, the party I was part of was more experienced and knew the ins and outs of his strategies.

Suddenly, the chief Orc started growling and hitting the ground with his legs. He was irritated by how things worked against him.

The two trolls next to him brought out their axes and started advancing towards us.

These two guards were always part of the last boss’s party. They had never changed, so we knew we were in for some hard times.

They were both a lot stronger than the three martial arts hobgoblins that I fought, but they were still B-rank monsters.

Joshua used a skill that makes all enemies attack him, so he directed the wrath of the two trolls at him. Then he used a skill that reduces the damage that he received by 50% for 20 seconds. This way, we had time to prepare for our attacks and deal with the upcoming danger.

Meanwhile, the healers cast a regenerative spell on Joshua to help him bear with the raging attacks of the trolls.

The mages prepared their strongest spells to fire at the monsters, whilst Clara imbedded her arrows with as much mana as possible.

Before the end of the 20th-second mark, Clara fired some of her arrows at the trolls to divert them for a moment to help Joshua retreat.

After being hit by the arrows, the trolls turned their heads to look at Clara, which gave our guardian the time to move away. At the same time, the four mages took this chance to fire off their attacks.

A mix of all types of elemental spells was shot at the big green monsters. Multiple water spears, triple wind tornados, a big rock sphere, and a firebird were some of the strongest spells that any B-rank mage can master. They packed destructive powers within and were all aimed at the enemy duo.

The trolls tried to dodge the amalgam of spells coming after their lives, but they were met by long-range attacks fired by George and me.

George charged his mana inside his fist, and launched a ranged mana punch, whilst I charged mana at the tip of my sword, and shot an air slash.

Both hits found their targets and stopped them from dodging, and then they were bombarded by the destructive power of the four elemental spells.

Amidst all the chaos, a shower of arrows started raining at where the monsters were standing.

After we all finished our respective roles, Leo was still waiting for a sign from the monsters so he could strike them down.

A few minutes had passed, but there were no signs. The scout didn’t pick anything up with his waves. It was weird. Normally they should still have some life points left, but their life signs were completely gone.

I turned toward the boss, but he was still sitting on his throne.

Joshua used his taunting skills, but there was no response.

We kept looking around the whole battlefield, but we couldn’t find them.

Suddenly, the ground below Clara started cracking, and a bloodied hand reached the neck of Clara and hold her, then the two trolls emerged from the ground.

The troll holding Clara smashed her against the rubbles and kicked her in the kidney, and threw her away. She screamed so loudly and quickly lost consciousness.

Leo was furious and charged mindlessly against the beasts.

“No, Leo stop.” Screamed George.

But it was too late, the trolls cut down Leo with their axes before he could make contact with them.

I was boiling with anger after I saw that my closest friends were being struck down by these monsters. I took out my sword and dashed towards them to take revenge, but I was suddenly stopped by George.

“We don’t want to get you out of commission too. Keep your strength for the final boss. I shall take care of these guys.” Veins started popping out from his face while George was talking to me. “They are my prey. I shall finish them off quickly. None of you move. Replenish your stamina and mana.”

Not moments later, mana started overflowing from George. He kept moving towards the trolls slowly.

“Let me show you the real power of a B-rank warrior with 20 years of experience.”

The trolls rushed at him with their axes, but they were shattered to pieces with one punch.

A gust of wind came out from behind the monsters and left a big hole in the wall.

They threw away their broken weapons and attacked him with their bare fists. He blocked their attacks and struck them down with a jumping turn kick, blasting away the head of one of the trolls, while the other was smashed cleanly with the ground.

He tried standing up, but George jumped and drilled his legs on the back of the troll, killing him instantly.

“Now the fodders are dead, it’s your time to stand down from that throne.” George addressed the chief Orc.

In the meantime, I hurried to check on Clara and Leo. The healers were already casting their spells on them. Fortunately, they were only unconscious and weren’t badly hurt, but we were down to 7 warriors who could effectively battle.

I turned my gaze towards the boss monster who just stood up from his throne. He had a grin on his face. His plan succeeded in the end.

He took out his big steel hammer from behind the throne and smashed the now empty chair.

“It’s coming guys. Prepare of the impact.” Shouted George.

The chief Orc had several skills. One of them activated when he smashed the throne.

The remains of the destroyed throne rose to the sky, and he started hitting them like a batter hitting a baseball ball. The rocks kept coming at a tremendous speed.

We’ve hurried to stay together, then Joshua positioned himself in front of us to guard the party.

He used one of his defensive skills to shield us against the rocks rain. His shield expanded to cover the whole impact area. Thus, we managed to safely avoid the first attack.

The big Orc started neck cracking, then he smashed the ground with his hammer and shot a shockwave mixed with rubbles. The shield couldn’t guard against both the rocks rain and the shockwave, so it was shattered.

We managed to dodge the attack on time before the shield was destroyed, so we retaliated against the final boss.

The fire mage used a spell to manipulate the mana around the Orc, and created a fire ring, trapping him inside of it. Then the earth mage created several rock platforms and fired them at the monster from above.

At the same time, the wind mage launched a wind vortex and infused the fire of the fire ring to create a strong fiery vortex, dealing heavy damage to the boss monster and burning him in the process, then, the platforms landed on the burnt Orc.

Upon contact, the water particles that were created by the water mage, and were trapped inside of the platforms, exploded and created geysers that pushed the monster from one to another.

To finish these spectacular 4 elemental magic attacks, the water vaporized and transformed into blazing hot steam that surrounded the green creature.

I didn’t want to give him time to recover, so I launched several air slashes, cutting him in several parts of his buffed body.

Finally, Joshua and George's scissors attacked him with a combination of a mana-clad punch and a charging shield attack.

Right when they were about to hit him, He suddenly swung his hammer, making the effect of all spells vanish instantly and creating a strong torrent of wind, damaging both of them and pushing them away.

Without breaking a sing sweat, he jumped at Joshua with a pummeling attack, but I dashed and reduced the distance between us using a step slash, then I parried his attack and countered it, creating a large cut on his chest.

The Orc roared in pain, but he gritted his large spikey teeth, head-butted me quickly, and used the momentum to swing his hammer again to pummel both Joshua and me.

The earth mage interfered and created a triple-layered earth wall that was destroyed by the blow, and we were thrown away due to the sheer force of the destruction. We would have been instantly killed if it wasn’t for the protection of the earth mage.

While the Orc was busy trying to kill me and Joshua, the water mage shot several water orbs at the monster, which successfully found their target, dealing him a tiny amount of damage, and soaking him.

Then the wind mage created a wind current around the Orc, lowering the temperature of the water and freezing some parts of his body.

At the same time, George started spinning around himself while dashing forward like a top, then he kicked the monster with the full force that came from the velocity of his movements.

The ice around the Orc shattered, dealing more damage to him, and he has shot away and crashed with the wall.

A loud groan came from the monster, he was clearly in pain.

He didn’t move for a while, but we knew what was coming. The second stage of this fight was upon us.

After being heavily damaged, the Orc entered a state of mindless rage that increased his overall power and speed, making him immune to spells. This state was called by the warriors, the berserker state.

Our mages were useless against him, thus only Joshua, George, and I could effectively fight this monstrosity. Nonetheless, we braced ourselves for the final clash.

Joshua started by using his taunt skill on the enraged Orc, then he charged at him with his shield, but he was stopped right on his tracks with only one hand.

I used this moment of inattention to strike the Orc with one of my skills. I took a thrust stance, putting the sword horizontally with my eyes, and dashed. Upon contact, I created an arc-like slash on his back.

“Ono-Ha-Itto-Ryu, Swallow Slash.”

Joshua moved back and put his shield on top of him, then George started running towards him and used the shield as a trampoline to throw an air kick that hit the Orc right on his head.

The berserker didn’t fall. He caught the leg of George and used his body like a whip to hit me and throw us both away.

Then he used his hammer to smash the shield Joshua and blow him away like a baseball ball.

George cladded his arms with mana and went for a Gatling of heavy punches, and then he smacked him down with his final hit to the jaw. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to kill the monster.

He retaliated by swinging his big steel hammer, hitting George right to the side, and throwing him to where Joshua was laying.

At that moment, I noticed that the Orc couldn’t stand properly. The damage that he received started building up and weighting too much on his body. Therefore, I took this chance to go for a flash slash to finish him off before he could attack me.

“Ono-ha-Itto-Ryu Ougi, Flash Slash.”

Right before I made contact with him, he tilted his body and my sword was stuck inside his biceps. I tried finishing the move, but the sword couldn’t budge from inside his muscles.

The Orc looked at me with enraged eyes. He head-butted me again, but I didn’t let go of the sword. I put all of my powers into it and successfully cut off his arm.

The Orc screamed in pain, but he didn’t lose to the pain and kicked me away with his buffed leg.

I was thrown a few yards away, then he charged at me with a pummelling attack using his hammer.

“I don’t have time to guard against this attack. What should I do?” I closed my eyes waiting for the impact.

A few moments later, I didn’t feel anything hitting me, so I opened my eyes slowly to see a spear impaling the heart of the Orc.

It was Leo’s spear.

After I opened my eyes, I saw Leo holding his spear from its far end.

“Huh, I dealt the finishing blow, no need to worry guys, I finished off the monster that put you through so much work.” Smirked Leo.

Leo used his killing move to finish off the boss monster. He embedded the tip of his spear with all of his mana and dashed at him from his blind spot, and struck his heart, then the mana went through his body and exploded his heart.

We’ve finally cleared the dungeon.
