《Aetherborn (Rewritten)》Chapter 10; Bad Luck

VIIIth Century, year 63. Fianary of Norman. Day 20, Capital of the Kingdom of Florence. A few minutes after Ashkan awoke.
Ashkan had stepped out of the portal, his eyes was still adapting to his surroundings and it only took a few seconds for him to interpret what was occurring, Alice was still lying on the floor unconscious. Ashkan's memories quickly blended together, allowing the God-King to interpret what had happened.
In front of him was Alice, unconscious on the floor, Ashkan approached Alice in slow steps, reaching out his hand and held her face firmly, with his other hand he pushed away the hair that was hiding a bruise on her forehead, it was a not very deep cut nothing that could cause her demise.
"You did a good job..."
Ashkan sympathized deeply with that young sorceress.
The black miasma came out of Ashkan's hands, but in a small amount, it circulated around Ashkan's palm, forming a small oval bubble, and this bubble he applied on top of Alice's belly, which was quickly absorbed by her body.
"Actually, there's not much I can do now. I'm limited by this body, but with this small amount of my mana in your body it will help you regenerate faster."
"Sigh! I'm exhausted with just that?" Smiled Ashkan lightly.
"Well, then I should wait a bit for this girl's recovery and understand the scenario better..."
...
Lightly Alice's eyes opened, everything was dark and her body heavy. It was as if she had fallen into a deep sleep where she hadn't rested a bit.
When she opened her eyes she saw Ashkan smiling in a nice way to her, he was sitting on the floor beside her, his cloak was over her body, it had made her body warm. Her head was bruised, however the bleeding had stopped
"The strong magical explosion when I broke the seal. She must have knocked me out for days."
Imagined Alice, then she again turned her gaze full of doubt to the only person who was present there
"How long was I unconscious?"
"Just a few minutes ago"
"What????"

"Well, that must be a scare for you hahaha"
Ashkan smiled spontaneously at Alice, his genuine smile leaving her slightly reddened. But Ashkan did not possess time for that and promptly stood up and returned a question to Alice
"But well, I have a question for you. Was there anyone outside the two of us at the time of the seal breaking?"
"N- I don't understand your majesty"
"Is there anyone who might have reached the fifth rank of mana core?"
"Your majesty, the only person I know of who made it past the fourth core, the black core was my master"
"And where is she?"
Alice was reluctant to speak, however she explained her situation in detail to your majesty. She never had the opportunity in aggrandizing her master, in speaking of how amazing her master was. She spared no words. She ennobled her mistress's words, applauded her righteous deeds in prison. Sentenced the despicable actions of the people who tried to comment some evil on her. And relentlessly applauded the wisdom and magical power of her mistress.
Even with all this dignification, she did not possess an optimistic view of your majesty's reaction, she never knew why her mistress had been thrown into the dungeon, perhaps she had caused a genocide or something despicable before she had adopted her as a disciple.
"No, no, my mistress would never do that" Shaking her face in denial, and immediately interrupted the intrusive thoughts and turned to her majesty who was fully focused on every detail of her story.
"A worthy woman, I wish I had the opportunity to meet her. I imagine you two must have been through, I would like to apologise properly for the mistakes of my predecessors when this is all over"
Alice gave herself to tears, this touched her infinitely. Imagining that her mistress will be apologetic after all this time created a friendly bond with Ashkan. Finally Ashkan was able to understand Alice's story well, and his sympathy for her increased immensely.
"You really are a jewel that needs to be polished" he muttered to himself.
Ashkan understood the situation with Alice's response.

"I see, well I think I've recovered enough"
"Alice, I hope you will keep what occurred here a secret, I want to avoid certain individuals for now"
"Right, that will be our little secret your majesty" smiled Alice lightly and responding appropriately with a curtsy.
"I hope you will take care of the rest Alice, I will be going to take a look at the current situation"
Alice had not noticed before but Ashland's hair was different, it was a White grey and his voice had become deeper. However the most striking feature was his confidence emanating in every word.
"Woooosh"
A black miasma covered Ashkan's body, and evaporating him in moments.
"That's m-magic teleportation????".
"So that's that girl who appealed to Ashkan, the vice leader."
Ashkan's memories remain fresh in his consciousness, so it was hard not to know who that girl was, even with her body in such a terrible state
Now I understand Ashkan's desperation, this is a one-sided battle. I think it's time for me to step in and see what this body can handle.
Ashkan suddenly appeared before the Vice Leader's body, his presence immediately caught the attention of the two generals. Who immediately ordered their troops to return to the scene, Ashkan's aura was hostile to enemies, it was similar to a killing intent, only his hostility there was indifference to life, it was something hard to explain to the generals who had never felt such an aura before.
"Your general, that aura, that aura comes from the regent king..."
"What?"
That evil presentiment Hans was feeling was certainly that, but he could never have calculated that this energy belonged to the King regent, the one who had been left behind, the useless one.
"I believe you should say that directly to your majesty. After all a Shadow guardians only answers directly to the Majesty himself."
"Excuse me your general, I believe the situation demanded it, and I ended up acting on my own"
"All right, go and explain to your majesty. She will know best what to do with it."
Hans felt his stomach turn.
"Urgh I think it was a bad idea to eat the soldiers soup"
But the food served to the soldiers was of almost the same quality as what the generals were eating, after all they were far into an enemy nation, and their supply lines were behind.
But that feeling of indigestion wouldn't go away by any means.
"Let's head back, I need to examine it with my own eyes."
The gallop of his horse swayed the ground with each step. The standing soldiers could see Hans' horse returning at a great gallop in the blink of an eye, the wind was blowing in the opposite direction to Hans', his hair was swaying in the wind and his clothes were folding with each step his horse took. Each time his body came closer his stomach churned more strongly, it was a cramp that could leave any man weakened, but the urgency of the moment would not stop Hans.
"Damn it Agatah, what the hell have you gone and done"
Hans had recently received the announcement that war lady had returned as soon as they felt that intimidating presence.
He had forgotten about War Lady's sick desires, she could not resist seeing with her eyes that murderous intent, it would be some relative or lover that was around will seeing the state of the bodies she had left.
That's probably war lady thought.
But there was something different about that feeling, about that aura, it was different from just murderous intent, and apparently she didn't realise that.
And to make it more complicated, Hans received information about who that aura belonged to, which made it all more obscure.
Hans' warning signals were all on, adrenaline was mixing in his blood as well as his mana, forming a crust of action in his body. Fight or flight.
"HAST!"
Hans' speed doubled amidst the flatness after using his speed boosting magic.
Hans who hardly ever lost his cool, was one step away from losing it there, all Agatah had to do was act recklessly.
"Agatah, please don't do anything."
"HAASTT!"

Rekindle
My Newest, and at the same time, Oldest novel. This is a Rewrite of my very first novel that I begun when I was just starting out. It follows the story of Mark Floyd, a broken man who once tried to do what he thought was right... only to be stabbed in the back and thrown away. Now, pulled into a conflict that spans time and space, Mark has a choice to make; Stand up once more, even if it means facing an unknowable future, or let the Embers of his heart die and sink back into darkness. ----------------------------------- “For gold is tried in the fire, and acceptable men in the furnace of adversity”. Once part of a Special Ops team in the US Army, Mark Floyd thought he had seen the worst that Humanity had to offer. That was until his final mission, one that would leave him a broken and shattered man, betrayed by the Country he served, and abandoned by society as a whole. His dreams filled with nightmares of the ones he failed to protect, mind and memories clouded by booze and more, Mark finds himself stumbling through life without purpose or desire. Life isn't done with Mark yet, however. For as long as even a single ember remains in a persons heart, here is still yet hope for the flames of Passion and Hope to be Rekindled. When the dying embers of Mark's heart catches the eyes of a Being far beyond his understanding, Mark finds himself thrown into a situation not even his years of training could prepare him for. Will this new chance be Mark's hope at both Redemption and Recompense? Or will it simply be the final nail in the coffin for a man already dead to the World? [This is a rework of my very first story. The general story will remain the same, however a few details have been tweaked, the chapters have be Edited better and some chapters have been broken down into smaller chunks for better flow and consistency. The biggest change will be to the System itself; It will be a lot less "Game-like", meaning no stats, levels or similar aspect, though skills will still be present in the form of "Programs". Instead, It'll focus more on the Sigil's nature as super-computers and how they change the world around them. This should make for a much more "natural" and less info-dumpy system.
