"Awake, Hero." The voice of the Hero Celestial woke him and he found himself back in the void.
'Silian.'
"How was your first day in Lutaria?"
'That was one day? I couldn't tell time.'
Silian let out a chuckle, even though her face remained a blank mask. "Well, you did end up passing out for half the day after fighting your first opponent."
'I did?' He hadn't realized how strenuous his battle had been. Using something like Mana right after receiving it must not be a normal thing. 'Oh! Silian, can I make a request?'
"Hmm...I'll allow it, since you did not demand anything when you first arrived."
'Can you explain what Mana is? In detail? I want to know how it works, so I don't kill myself before I can do something with this new life.'
"Mana, huh." She paused for a brief moment, thinking. "I'll grant you access to the System Catalog. It'll allow you to learn about the world from what the other Heroes have gathered over time. Simply ask the System what you want to learn, and it will tell you what has been documented."
'Thank you, Silian.'
He felt a wave of wind hit him and Silian's body appeared to break into distorted pixels, before coming back together. Her blank face seemed to contort, though what reaction was the mystery.
"I'm afraid our time is limited. I know not when I'll be able to reach out again. Until then, do me proud, my Hero." With those words, the light folded on itself once more.
Just like before, his vision came into focus. He was laying on the cave floor, admiring the ceiling and the hole the mother worm had made. He stayed there, gathering his thoughts.
He had a way to learn about this world now, but from what Silian had said before departing left a sour taste in his mouth. Was she helping him when she wasn't supposed to? He'll try asking if he ever sees her again. In the meantime, he wanted to learn how this world worked.

First order of business is the history of this world. From what the brief summary provided with their first meeting, this world was destroyed by a Celestial. How could he ask the System that? He hoped it wasn't like the Internet, and he'll have to hunt for the answer. That would be a headache.
He wasn't sure how to actually access the System Catalog, so he made it as simple as possible.
'System Catalog.'

[Welcome to the System Catalog. If you wish to learn anything, simply ask "Catalog: Subject." If there is information written by other Heroes, it will be displayed. Any information not recorded will not be provided.]
The explanation was simple enough.
'Catalog: Lutaria History.'
[Searching Catalog]
[Three entries found]
[Creation]
[Destruction]
[Restoration]
Seems like the history of Lutaria was put into three categories, summarizing the information. He mentally opened each entry and began reading.
[Creation]
At first, there was nothing. That nothing began to think and split into five other forms. These forms became the Celestials.
Mayet, Creation Celestial, was the original and in charge of all the decisions made among the Celestials, including the creation of Humanity and Lutaria, a sphere of water and rock for Humanity to live on. He also created the Mayets, who used Divine Commune to talk to the Celestials on behalf of Humanity. Mayets were replicas of the appearances of the Celestials, but smaller.
Elfa, Huntress Celestial, was witty. She created the Elves, tall beings with blonde hair, pointy ears and enhanced senses. She gave the first Elf, the High Elf, the knowledge of the Hunt and each generation was taught that knowledge.
Mere, Aquatic Celestial, was a calm and decisive woman. She had created a life essential element for Humanity to use for survival: Water. She thus made a species that lived in water. Mereons looked like Mayets, but had developed gills for lungs and special eyes that let them see in water. They were extremely fast and strong when moving in water but weak on land.

Skylight, Mana Celestial, was a silent man. He would keep to himself and would begrudgingly talk with his siblings occasionally. He didn't make a species, but instead gave them a source of light. He created a ball of a small part of his essence and placed it on a timer. It would disappear and reappear periodically. The Mayets were given the information on how to track it and 18 hour days and 6 hour nights were established.
Silian, Hero Celestial, was an active woman. She created a title rather than a race. She would pick one from each species and anoint them Heroes and grant them special abilities that they would use to protect Humanity against Feng's children.
[Destruction]
Feng, Chaos Celestial, was an angry and egotistical man. He had developed an unknown hate towards Mayet. That anger clouded his better judgment and he blamed Humanity for it.
When he decided to come down to Lutaria, he nearly destroyed Humanity by attempting to explode himself in the heart of it. Before he nearly ended Humanity, he created his own island, Feng's Nest, filled with his children. Monsters made from his hate for Mayet, thus they had an innate need to feed on the rest of Humanity and see it destroyed. Upon Feng's command, they would enter the large portal on the nest and come out the other random generated portals on Lutaria, attacking Humanity.
When he attempted his own Suicide, he ended up pulling all the islands together and created one land mess. The other Celestials prevented his Suicide effects by minimize the blast, but were drained and retreated and stayed away.
Thus, Humanity was left alone, scared, lost and confused.
[Restoration]
It didn't take long for Humanity to rebuild themselves, thanks to the Celestials leaving behind help before they distanced themselves. Over the past hundred years, Humanity has evolved drastically.
The best improvement Humanity made was being able to utilize Skylight's light for their own benefits. Calling it Mana, they could control a certain part of the many elements that made up Lutaria. No two Mana users were alike, but some were similar in using a certain element.
The Heroes that Silian appointed as protectors used their overwhelming power and declared themselves the rulers of certain established countries. Those who did not want to be affiliated with them left and created their own cities.
Elfa, kingdom of the Elves, was ruled by the High Elf and was deep within mountains. Only those with an Elf's permission could enter their Mana erected border.
The Mereons lost their name and became Mere People. They remained underwater and rarely involved themselves with the rest of Humanity.
When Feng died, his control on his children was lifted, but his command of killing Humanity remained. Some Fengs have evolved over time and developed minds and became leaders in their own right.
When he read the boxes, he took some time to understand what he read.
The creation of Lutaria was a bit confusing, but he didn't want to dwell on the past, instead of focusing on the present. Lutaria was now one giant land mess and Humanity was not getting along, to the most extent.
It said that some of the Heroes had become dictators, which didn't surprise him as much as he thought it would've. That aspect hasn't changed, so in a way this world was similar to Earth, minus the Mana and species.
Mana he'll have to learn about a little later, since he already had somewhat of an understanding of how it worked for him.
He realized that he's read some fantasy books with this concept. Normally, he would read about the Heroes but now he's reading about the monsters.
Himself.
It was a fresh thought, for some reason.
History was written by the victorious, after all.
And he was going to be the victor in this story.

Dungeon's Path
The only places I have posted the story and allow it to exist are on RoyalRoad, Scribblehub, and my Patreon. So the world ended. Whoopsie? We didn’t even see it coming. Quite literally as it came at us faster than the speed of light. Don’t worry though, it got better. Also, I am not joking about the world ending. Most people say that and mean humans are inconvenienced for some reason. Nope, all matter disintegrated at the atomic scale there for a few moments. Apparently the local universe wasn’t actually stable? Don’t ask me to go into too much detail. It would require both of us to have a few more college degrees than sense, and I at least lack them (both the degrees and the sense). Anyway, the energy/matter/wibbly wobbly strings were at a local minimum and not the universal minimum. Basically, what we took for sea level was actually a nice little mountain lake and when the dam busted so did, well, everything. Now here is where things go a bit off track with what normal meant before. You see magic is real, qi is real, gods are real. Not on old Earth mind you but souls pay little attention to time and space so we dreamed of it. In fact, the closer the shift in reality got to Earth, the closer our dreams got to the new reality. This is basically me tip toeing around the fact that it was a ‘System Apocalypse’. Reality became a video game, I became a dungeon, and this is my story. Doyle Huxley just wanted a normal life but as the above might clue you in on that just isn’t in the cards. He gets to experience a “Path Based System Apocalypse” and some early paths he takes, both literally and figuratively, lead to him becoming a dungeon. The aim is to release chapters once a week on Friday. Cursing will be avoided and no naughty adult action will take place in the story.
