《Heart Of A Servant》Chapter 33 : Kelly needs an incentive

“Hum…Let’s see. I will make it so you can turn other humans by biting them….hum …how will that work?…ah I got it! Once you’ve bitten them your own Shadow will duplicate itself and then enter the victim and then the curse will pass from one to another… yes, that’s how it should be. But do I make it so you’re the only one who turn others or do I make it so even your victims can disseminate the curse as well? Let me look into the future first.”

The Shadow closed its eyes for a second and then reopened them with a smile.

“So you’ll just be the only one who can transfer the curse… but the power of the curse and the power to bestow it will be given to whomever will kill you. If you die by suicide or by sickness, if that could ever happen, the curse will go to the eldest you’ve turned that’s still alive. That way the curse will never be lost to time.”

After that Shadow looked on the Dark Contract and a set of instructions mainly summarizing what he had said appeared on it.

He added some additional instructions to it but I couldn’t be bothered to read anymore as I had lost interest.

While I had lost interest, I was also feeling a lot of dread after figuring out the uses of the dark contract.

It could basically make the impossible possible with a few lines written on it. While I didn’t know its limits, I figured that there were none since it could bind the victim to whatever instruction were given to it…And it seemed to be able to make use of all the Darkness powers of the Shadow.

The Dark Contract then turned into a ball of black light as it entered into the body of the wolfman.

After that was done, the shadowy tentacles that were binding the wolfman then disappeared. Seeing itself free, the wolfman then ran as far as it could.

The Shadow then turned in my direction as it said out loud, “Had fun spying on me?”

I wasn’t surprised that it could sense me at this point. It seemed the Shadow was becoming stronger with each day that Kyle agonized about not having seen his parents.

I retracted my clairvoyance and left it to its own devices. It knew that I was keeping an eye on it and that was all it needed to know for now.

I had, however, left a soul mark on the wolfman to monitor its movements.

As I regained my own body and opened my eyes what greeted my eyes was funny to say the least. Kelly had finally succeeded in casting the shape shifting spell, except… he was now an over-sized 2 meters high baby.

“Idiot. Couldn’t you visualize Kyle’s looks like I told you?” I berated him.

“I…I tried but this is what happened and I can’t go back.” Kelly’s little voice said.

I thought to myself that perhaps a shape shifting spell wasn’t an ideal solution to our problem. Perhaps an aging spell would do.

I rummaged through my repertoire of spell and found an aging spell that was relatively easier to learn than the shape shifting spell.

Of the two aging spells I found, the one I selected was the easiest to learn but it brought no other perks other than the aging of the body. The other spell could upgrade your power accordingly at the same time you aged making it so you’d at least gain three quarters of the power you would’ve had had you aged normally.

I dispelled the failed shape shifting on Kyle’s body and then created a scroll containing the simple aging spell and the gave it to baby Kelly.

Kelly asked for the…in fact I had lost count of how many times he had asked the same question, “Bran. Why can’t you cast the spell for me? I am bad at this.”

Even the clone was fond of shortcuts like his original body. But, I couldn’t give in. I had finally found an apprentice, and I couldn’t spoil him no matter what.

“You have to learn, you know that.” I answered.

He pouted and then took the scroll containing the simplified aging spell. He looked through it and then started learning its profound meaning as best as he could.

As I read his mind I could tell that he was learning half-heartedly because he knew that I could cast the spell for him. He wasn’t putting in much effort because he wanted to show me how he wasn’t good at it so I could do it for him.

It was then that an idea came to me ‘ Perhaps he’s good at magic and he’s just lazy and he needed an incentive.’

I then created the complicated aging spell scroll that could grow his power as he aged and then told him, “You know, I have another aging spell here. It is a bit complicated to learn but if you learn it well you can even surpass me in power and then the Shadow won’t be able to bully you anymore.”

I could see his eyes lighting up like torches.

He immediately stood up and then took the scroll from my hand with saying a word and started to study it.

I could already see his brain working on overdrive trying to learn it. I had never seen a baby’s face looking so serious in my entire life.
