《Heart Of A Servant》Chapter 32 : The Shadow's cruel joke

I was trying to teach baby Kelly a shape shifting spell so he could look like an adult.

Unfortunately, while he had a body attuned to mana at the highest level possible, he didn’t have the ability to properly comprehend and apply the deep knowledge I imparted him.

I was looking for a solution when I suddenly thought about turning him into a soul whisperer like kyle. It could increase his intelligence and also make him even stronger.

I surmised that being created from a sacrifice involving something as strong as tier 9 fire dragon, baby Kelly should have a powerful soul himself. A tier four soul at the very least.

Then why wasn’t he picking this knowledge up like candy. A simple spell of shape shifting shouldn’t be that difficult to learn.

Perhaps my perspective as a tier 60 soul whisperer had clouded my vision, thinking that magic could be learned that easily.

It was at that moment that I remembered that it had been at least an hour since Kyle’s alter ego had taken over for the next twelve hours.

I wasn’t fond of their agreement of sharing their time equally. The more Kyle’s evil side was released the more problems would I have on my hands.

It’s not like I could babysit him every time.

Like now for example. Kyle had decided to tour the Dellmoor city to get some air. Chances were, as per the contract, the evil side took over before he could come back home.

I had strictly forbidden Kyle not to let this situation happen if he could help it. I had to be there when the evil side took over so I can keep it in check.

No matter…A little clairvoyance spell will tell me what it is up to.

I pushed my soul a little and then activated clairvoyance. I could then see everything in Dellmoor city. Now that I was a God I just had to push my senses a little for me to feel my surroundings. Even looking at the whole planet didn’t require that much energy. It scared me to know that I had no idea how far I could really see.

As I searched for kyle energy signature, I found him outside the city having a conversation with a crying man who was holding a wounded wolf that was about to die.

Out of curiosity, I decided to listen at what they were saying. It was rare for the Shadow to show interest in mundane things, so I was curious to know what was going on. Chances were that he was bullying the poor man and wolf.

“… So do you really think that death is the end? I will never understand you poor mortal creatures…here you are crying rivers over a useless beast…” I heard the Shadow say.

“It’s not useless, it was my partner…we hunted together…oh god, it’s all my fault….what am I going to do now?” The man said.

The Shadow then had an evil grin, and then said, “You know, I could save it for you…but hehe…there will a price to pay.”

“Anything…I’ll do anything.” The man said with snot and tears on his face.

I was starting to think that nothing good will come out of it. I could already see where this was going. The poor man and wolf will be cheated out of their very lives soon as the Shadow had no ounce of pity in itself.

As I thought about teleporting there and stopping the Shadow from whatever sick joke it had planned, but I decided to let it be and see what would really happen.

Because I knew that the Shadow could see the future, I surmised that each and every one of its actions were calculated. It wouldn’t do anything that wouldn’t advantage it.

But in hindsight, as seen when it had decimated an entire clan of seers and even stole their power on a whim, this could be the same case where it was just acting on a whim, perhaps after having a passing thought about playing a cruel joke on an already broken man.

I saw the Shadow wave its right hand and then the dying wolf’s shadow left the ground and then transformed into a wolf made of a black element. The dark wolf then pounced on the shadowless dying wold and then devoured it whole. After that the dark wolf then fused with the crying and stupefied man’s shadow.

So that’s the cruel joke it was playing. I couldn’t say I didn’t see it coming, but it was funny nonetheless. The man and the wolf were friends…partners who hunted together. Now they were inseparable.

I was curious though, what would be the result of such a fusion. I didn’t wait long as the man started morphing into a monstrosity.

The result was a humanoid wolf. Something nor man nor wolf. It had wolf’s head. Sharp claws and wolf legs. There was also silver hair all over the body.

At 2.3 meters high it was a real killing machine.

The creature seemed to be looking at itself constantly, forgetting its surroundings. When it finally registered the presence of the Shadow standing before it, its instinct told it to run. I was reading its mind so I knew that while it had forgotten about its human memories which wouldn’t take long to resurface, it was already intelligent to know that the Shadow before it was something more dangerous than itself.

As the creature darted to the left and ran in the direction of the nearest forest, strands of shadowy tentacles pinned it to the ground.

“Hey…we haven’t finished the details of your transformation yet.” Said the Shadow as a black parchment was created out of thin air.

Yes, it was the Dark Contract. The very same used by the Shadow to escape Kyle’s control and gain twelve hours of life daily.

But what could a dark contract accomplish here. Did it have any other uses I didn’t know about?
