《Heart Of A Servant》chapter 07

The magus stone was a medium used by ancient magus’ to cast spells.
Inside the magus stone was a blueprint of every spell known to man and more. It wouldn’t be weird if the magus stone was the origin of magic as we know it.
No one knew, however, when and where the magus stone first appeared. The ancient magus’ themselves didn’t know the origin of the magus stone.
There was a plethora of spells in the magus stone, more than I could ever know.
Just like last time I had this stone, this time, I wanted to study its contents thoroughly.
Inside the copper ring, the magus stone floated before me and released a violet light.
I closed my eyes and established a connection with the stone. A part of my mind then entered a violet world.
It was a world that was filled with an infinite number of scrolls. Like a disorganized library.
I went to the nearest scroll and started reading.
It was a simple spell about conjuring golems.
I kept going from scroll to scroll reading to my heart’s content. I merely relied on luck to stumble on a spell unknown to me.
Outside the copper ring, Kyle was about to finally leave the Brightmoon estate.
I immediately came out to resume my duty as a life saver. I couldn’t allow myself to be missing in case he needed my help. I decided to explore more of the magus stone during his sleep or when absolutely sure that there was no danger.
We went back to Kyle’s estate.
In the carriage, Kyle asked: “I saw that you disappeared for a while. Anything I should know?”
Of course, I couldn’t endanger him by telling him the existence of the magus stone. The fewer people that knew of its existence the better.
I said: “No. Nothing alarming. I remembered that you needed a strong sword art and went inside the copper ring to see if I had one.”
He asked: “Did you find it?”
I knew that he was impatient to finally start real training.
I said: “Yes. I did. Just ask for it whenever you are ready to start training.”
The next day, Kyle decided to eat breakfast at a restaurant.
We went to The smiling sun restaurant in the commercial district of Dellmoor city.
After eating his fill, he returned home to spar with his two guards. He wanted to know what an experienced hand looked like by fighting with the two Middle stage Intermediary Hallowed swordsmen before he started real training.

Three days later, he asked for the sword art.
I gave him a sword art called The emperor’s tyrannical sword.
Just like its name, it was a sword art that was meant to be overbearing. Each sword stance was meant to overpower the enemy with an unstoppable momentum.
I watched him train for days. Also, every day, I made sure that his essence kept increasing its purity. By the fifth day, after starting his training, he was already a late stage novice Hallowed swordsman with power equal to 6000 kilograms per punch.
I was thinking that I should let him train in other power systems such as the Soul whisperers who cultivated their souls or Blood igniters who cultivated their blood and vitality.
I wanted him to be strong enough to look after himself because I still felt guilty about the deaths of my previous masters that I couldn’t protect in the end.
Training just his body wasn’t enough in my eyes.
Since he refused to learn magic to become a jack of all trades, he had to compensate with other methods.
“Soul whisperers…Blood igniters…You want me to train in something else when I haven’t even advanced further in being a Hallowed swordsman?” Kyle complained.
“There is no harm in trying something else. This is your life. The stronger you are, the more you gain the right of keeping it safe.” I tried to convince him.
He said: “We’ll see in the future.”
I said: “It’s better if you start now. Cultivating the three power systems at the same time will help you understand your powers better. If you start cultivating late, one side will be stronger than the other leaving your body unbalanced.”
He seemed to be thinking for a moment before he asked: “You didn’t say what I gain out of it. What kind of powers do I get?”
I said: “Soul whisperers, when they reach their peak, their souls can live independently from the body. You can possess other people’s bodies, you can see and feel your surroundings up to countless miles in distance. As for blood igniters, the stronger you become, the more of an undying body you get. Blood igniters heal faster than any other power system I know.”
I wanted him to accept but I couldn’t force him. In the end, it was up to him whether he wanted to live longer or not.
It was at that moment that a strange thing happened: the magus stone started vibrating inside the copper ring.
“What’s happening?” I asked myself.

I went into the copper ring immediately, leaving Kyle alone in the courtyard.
I arrived in front of the magus stone and tried to take it in my hand, but before I could do so, I was blinded by a violet light that turned the dimension inside the copper ring into a violet world.
Unable to see anything but the way out of the copper ring, I exited the ring.
At this time, Kyle’s hand that the ring was on was shaking. The ring on his finger had turned violet and the intensity of the light released kept increasing.
“What’s going on?” Kyle asked.
“I have no idea. Something is about to happen, though I am curious to see what it is.” I said. Inwardly, I was impatient to see what would happen.
Seconds later, a violet rift appeared in front of us.
I only had enough time to enter the ring before Kyle’s body was sucked into the rift.
We traveled into a violet world for an eternity before we were sucked by another rift, which I assumed was the exit.
I was the first to see where we arrived. It was a dilapidated temple.
Kyle laid on the broken altar, asleep.
I performed some clairvoyance to see if we were still on the Trost continent, but I doubted it.
I let a part of my soul leave me and fly upwards to the stars. I planned to see the shape of the continent or planet to see if it was still home.
Just like I expected it, it wasn’t home.
The continent was at least five times bigger than the Trost continent. The planet was monstrously big.
This wasn’t home.
I looked at Kyle who still had a parent he had to find back home. I wondered how I was to explain to him that we were far from the home he knew. Very far.
I wondered if he could even understand what I was about to tell him.
Kyle woke up.
He looked like he was having a migraine.
“Where are we? How did we get here?” He asked.
I proceeded to explain to him what happened from the origins of the Magus stone to our current situation.
He listened with eyes widening to the limit.
All the time, I was reading his mind to see if he was angry. He wasn’t. He was just overwhelmed by the information I had just given him.
“What do we do now?” He asked.
“The magus stone couldn’t have sent us here for nothing. There must be a reason to all of this. Maybe one day, once I’ve thoroughly researched it, we will be able to go back home.” I said before I added: “For now we can explore this planet and try to understand why we were sent here.”
Faced with the unknown, Kyle cultivated diligently. He had even asked me to help him cultivate as a soul whisperer and a blood igniter.
We stayed near the broken temple mainly for Kyle to cultivate before we set out to travel the unknown lands.
One month later, Kyle was a late stage intermediary Hallowed swordsman with a strength of 20,000 kg per punch.
As a soul whisperer, he was still at the first stage. At this stage, he could interact with souls by seeing them, touching them and eating them to strengthen his own soul.
As a blood igniter, he was but a beginner. At this stage, he could heal from minor injuries but couldn’t regrow an arm for example. At the later stages, he could even revive himself from a drop of blood.
Fortunately, the new planet had plenty of mana in the atmosphere for our use. I was capturing as much mana as I could into the copper ring for later use. We didn’t know what we would encounter so we were preparing for the worst.
After consolidating his cultivation as a late stage intermediary Hallowed swordsman, Kyle was starting to feel restless from staying put.
I knew it was time to leave that abandoned temple to explore the world, but there was still one thing that had to be done. The creation of a branded sword for Kyle’s use.
A branded sword was a sword that was fed with one’s essence. As a Hallowed swordsman could freely control his essence to do what he wished, having a sword that contained the same essence allowed one to control the sword in many ways. The sword could be used for flight or combat. The sword could be considered an independent limb that could be moved however one wished.
I conjured a sturdy sword for Kyle who then started branding it with his own essence.
Days later, Kyle could be seen hopping on the sword and flying on short distances.
“We should go to the nearest town and start from there.” I said.
“What if they speak another language? What if they are not human?” Kyle asked.
“We’ll adapt. Believe in me.” I said.

8 128Red Street Daybreak
August Samuel Hatch was born under an inauspicious pattern of stars. It's granted him what is widely considered the most unlucky of inconveniences: becoming host to a powerful but pernicious spirit that will act as his guide and protector--and one day end his life. Sairne is sworn to stand by August's side and, when the fancy strikes her, advise him, all in the service of atoning for a past life she can’t remember having committed a grave enough offense to earn her soul indentureship in the mortal realm. Bound by a celestial contract neither one can negotiate, their fates are all they've ever known. But in a city ruled by religious right and where magic runs deep as bedrock, their search for a missing friend leads them to a dark conspiracy that could transmute the very magic that binds them to their fates, and that might grant them the ultimate choice: do they save the city or save themselves? Cross-posted on Wattpad and Ao3. For fans of fantasy YA story beats if they starred adults instead, 1920s inspired setting, lots of banter, larger cast of characters, somewhat soft magic system. Completed, but being actively edited prior to posting! I'm the only captain on this ship, so mind any errors.
