Reality
(Adam the mage’s POV)
“I didn’t move o~n, huh” (Adam)
I thought I have ended up in afterlife, but it didn’t turn out that way. My hands and feet are bounded. I tried moving them to undo the restraint, but they are really tight. My limbs felt numb and weaken due to the tightness of the restrain. Did they just use Hem weed rope? Those are mana absorber and muscle relaxant restraint that usually used to subdue large fierce creatures that can invoke magical phenomena. I touched the rope a little with my fingers, and the lethargic effect on me seems to reduce a little.
I saw a pair of eyes watching here.
“What is the meaning of this? Release me!” (Adam, shouting to the guards)
“Hey, he’s awake! Tell the King” (Prison guard)
I realized that I’m in a prison room, with no light and only a small sliding shutter that opens from the outside. A pair of eyes full of contempt peer inside the prison. It gives me the creeps. The palace people have never act in such manner towards me, a respectable mage that can qualify to enter the hero’s party.
Next moment, the prison door, which looks like five-inches thick iron slab swings open, and two big burly men with arms as thick as a thigh came in and grab my arms, and slam me to the wall. Another prison guard then come in and gives me a solid sucker punch aiming at my solar plexus. I tried shifting my chest to avoid a critical hit, but the two guards hold me up real tight, moving me back to position and I got hit real hard, making me almost faint. I can feel my stomach acid rise to my throat and it gives a horrible feeling.

“You are going to get it now, hehe. At last, I get a piece of you. Bring him out.” (Prison guard leader)
I don’t know who is this guy, but apparently he has a grudge on me. I was dragged out of the room with my feet dangling. The journey took quite some time, and I was brought to the throne chamber. The two prison guards went off, and four royal guards place their pike pole over on my shoulders and push my already weakened body to the ground in a crouching position. I can see the hero’s party assembled there, with the generals that usually accompany us, but I can see very few forward generals left. Only those generals that usually sit back in safe location have their usual numbers, and they now outnumber the forward generals that go to the battlefields. I can see blood splatter at one corner of the room, and several bodies of people in their uniform are lying there in terrible state, some have holes all over, and some lose their head, etc. I recognize the forward general that worked with me among them. A dreadful premonition falls upon me. I frantically rake my brain to overcome this situation.

Outlook: The Stars (Consciousness Unbound Book 1)
The year is 2152. Rune Yahui is a nineteen-year-old failure, not having gained entrance to college or the military, with no significant prospects in life. Even worse, Rune is the poorest of the poor, hailing from the mega-slums of New Southern Chicago, the lowest pit of America. In a desperate last-ditch attempt to gain a future more lustrous than toiling the rest of his days away in abhorrent conditions in one of the near sweat-shop level factories that dot the megapolis, Rune signs up for the Virtual Citizen program, a program to cull the excessive world population by transferring just their brains into a video game. In a stroke of rare luck, Rune is admitted into the program and happily submits himself to the surgery and digitization process. Unfortunately for him, he wakes up several hundred years later than he expected... or does he? **Author's Note** This isn't a type of story typical to RRL. You may have noticed LitRPG in the tags, but it's a relatively minor element in the story until later. You may also notice Slice of Life is in the tags. This story is going to be slow and there won't be any power tripping until way later if at all. The focus will be on character development. That doesn't mean I won't still have action/excitement, however. I encourage you to give the story a try. Maybe it will be your thing, maybe it won't. Thanks for even taking the time to read this, and if you do give my fiction a try, I hope you enjoy it. If you don't, well, I hope you find something that you do enjoy. Happy reading!
