Prologue

(Third party POV)

A party of 8 people (a mage and sorcerer, a shielder single sword, dual swordsman, a hero, an archer, a cleric, a logistical expert, and a scout) is sent as an elite team to defeat an existence known to the human world as Demon Lord. The battle is arduous, and many infantry support unit is dispatched, killed, replaced, and killed while fighting the Demon Lord army.

“I’ve got to do something fast” (Magician)

Seven of his comrades are fighting for their lives as they struggle to block the attacks from The Demon Lord army. The Hero especially, couldn’t stand being forced to the ground and bitterly strike at two Demon Hellspawns with his secondary sword, Legbiter. The main sword is too heavy for the hero to handle now as his life is inching away from him. The demon lord subjugation party is afflicted with terrible curses that drain away their lives.

“Seeking Firefly” (Magician)

The magician cast out many firefly-shaped fireballs that fly to their target without missing. This magic has low attack power in return for precise attack and also large number of quantity. It is usually used to overwhelm small group of enemies with their continuous combustion and explosion. However, this spell has been honed to high level by the magician. Countless hours of toiling and training till his mana is dangerously low and scorched hands paid off this time.

Both Demon Hellspawns lost their senses when half their face got blown off by the explosion and fell of the floor, limp. The skeleton soldiers and skeleton warriors got blown to pieces with each explosion of Seeking Firefly, with few hundred emerging each second from a sphere formed in front of the magician.

The magician is shielded a powerful mana shield, and one broken ring and pendant lying on the floor. They are special equipment forged with the highest protection seal enchanted within, made possible with the magician’s high enchantment capability. The equipment broke to protect against the curses that come at him. With two small round shields on each wrist, he deflects light-based attacks from several human turncoats that wield light-based attacks, probably priest that can utilize holy magic. They can still wield that magic even when they betrayed the teachings of Freya, the Holy Mother. With Seeking Firefly and deflected light attacks hitting the Demon army, many demon grunts were defeated. A strong looking demon, probably the one that launched the surprise curse attack has now emerged from his hiding, lifting up a rotten skull of a human on his left hand and a staff of eerie effigy on his right hand. The Demon general tosses the skull down like a discarded item, it probably has been used to hex the hero party.

“Appraisal” (Magician)

The magician use the appraisal skill on the strong looking demon.

The overall power of the demon is astounding. For the magician, his overall power is only about 3899 and his level is only at 23.

In this world, there is skill, statistics and level. However, they are just tentative values, and they are not the real determinant factor for the power of a person or demon, at least for the magician. That is the reason he train so hard to slowly gain an edge with his relatively poor skills.

“Do something, magician. At least heal me or lift the curse, you selfish idiot” (Hero)

The hero doesn’t even call the magician by name, nor any honorific, indicating his contempt for the magician. In the hero’s mind, the magician is a selfish person that didn’t care for his party. He totally forgot that he’s the reason that the party got hexed without any countermeasure. He rejected the protective charm offered by the magician to the party, stating that it smells and looks ugly and dumb. The other party members, some agreeing to the opinion, and some just don’t want to offend the hero, decide to similarly reject the protective charm offer.

In this world, magical phenomena are possible. Actually, magic is another branch of science that is logical in this world. The magician is a person that is reborn from Earth. In this new world, he learned that strange phenomena can be induced and it is actually just normal everyday occurrence. What is termed as magic is just something naturally occurring in this world, and it can be controlled if proper skill and knowledge is applied. But the most importantly, magical phenomena occur because of mana, which is believed to be magical particles in the body, is circulated and expended when magical phenomena is induced.

Now that the hero and other party members all lying with a pool of blood on the floor, only the magician is the only one able to stand and fight.
