《Birth of an AntiHero》Chapter 161 – Cleaning up and returning the patients. Part 1

*Swoosh!*
The moment a portion of her soul left her body, intense pain circulated and coursed, seemingly affecting everywhere. Whether it be the pain from damaging her own soul and ripping a piece off of it, the pain from transferring consciousness, albeit temporarily, the pain from her body collapsing to the ground beneath, or the pain of it beginning to shut down for a while, rendering her completely at her enemy’s mercy. Her only solace was that he was a hero, so most likely she wouldn’t die. Well, that is, unless the person attacking her team wasn’t allied with Hero Society, and was doing so for their own separate reasons. Then she couldn’t really be sure what fate was going to befall her weakened body.
As she streamed across campus, she felt the pain originating from what she left behind slowly fading away, until she was virtually numb to it all. Due to the connection to her soul and body, she still felt the pain they both experienced through that connection. But the distance helped to eventually weaken that connection to a negligible point. This was dangerous in its own right, as somebody well versed in soul magic could just as easily trap her new soul form, forcing the main soul to weaken and her body to die. They could also seal her away someplace and ‘possess’ the empty shell of a soul and body that now lacks a full consciousness, or alter her weak soul body and ‘brainwash’ her right before she can reenter what she left behind. Either way, this technique grants her pluses but brings forth many problems and dangers as well.
Still, the moment she touched the head of the Coalition of Mercenaries’ leader: Darz, she knew her plan had already been accomplished. With her self – implored mission completed, thanks to sharing all her memories from the time she entered the North – Western forest, to the moment she gave her body up and escaped, she allowed the pull her soul was giving off to drag her consciousness right back. Then she felt a crack, tear away at her new soul body. She tried to scream, but didn’t have lungs. It ended up being a mental scream in the end, with only Mr. Abrams listening in. He was doing three things right now. Reading his text messages, watching the Coalition leaders’ actions, and destroying her soul body that’d now returned. After it shattered, he threw her consciousness back into the weakened soul that forever lost a portion, and cast a very time consuming chant. Runic symbols slithered across the ground until entering her soul. The soul slowly started to stabilize and the more it recovered, the greater its energy dimmed. He was not only healing her soul’s damage that he just caused to deliver a powerful mental shock as punishment for her actions, but simultaneously sealing her soul as well. In the future, she will no longer be able to use soul magic with that seal in tact.

Everybody panicked upon hearing what Darz had to say.
Darz: “…She shared her memories with me. I couldn’t tell who’s company she hailed from, until I remembered she was recommended by our Killer-For-Hire division… but we can discuss things such as that, later. For the time being, make sure everybody immediately prepares to move out! That man… the one from her memories, although she only saw a split second of his face before collapsing, to me, that split second felt like an eternity. Because… - *Clenches fist* - Because that man, he was CLEARLY the Monitor Man! We’ve been had!”
?: “I told you this mission wasn’t worth the pay. Someone from the Top 10 ranked heroes wouldnnt be so easy to overcome. My Bright-Burn Mercenaries are moving out. We’ll consider the effort of taking up this mission as enough to warrant the half payment she already handed over. If I need to, I’ll negotiate with Hero Society about the conditions required to bail my members out.”
?: “Haha… Four… Four companies… four whole companies dedicated to taking out heroes...they had enough power altogether to wipe out a country! No, not even all the world’s countries together could withstand their might! That was the power of nearly fifteen THOUSAND super soldiers and specialized super - powered killers! All gone… in the span of a single night’s time!”
?: “Oh stop your bitching. My darlings suffered more than your daredevil corps because I put forth two thousand of my best For-Hire killers! Now they’re gone!Tell Gard, how does your measly one thousand – nine hundred compare to that?!”
?: “Daphne, it’s only a hundred difference. We all suffered here. Mainly the Dark Mercenaries who coughed up so much manpower to accomplish this mission. My Silver shackles will also pull out.. Haah, three thousand mercenaries gone in an instant…”
?: “Daine, you and Daphne suffered heavy losses, but collectively, we all suffered. For the Coalition to make such a blunder, I’m embarrassed that we actually have the gall to live tomorrow. My colleagues are definitely going to ride me about this mess. You may not hear a ‘Gunther’ as the Ghastly Seal – Breakers’ leader starting tomorrow.”
Darz: “Well, it’s fine. In the end, I successfully managed to confirm my plant inside their school grounds. We still have time to spend on this mission. She never actually gave us a time limit, after all(Although she said she wanted it started by the time the sun sets). We’ll come back for revenge, When they least expect it!”

…
Renegade: “…My team failed? They were… captured? What … bullshit is this! By WHO?! *BAM!* DAMMIT a waste of fucking resources – all they had to do was kill some defeated couple of mercenaries and NOTHING MORE! Raaaagh!
…
Hero High School… Don’t think you’ll get away with this! You should’ve stayed out of our business! But now, I’ll be sure to have my revenge! Hero Society is stretched so thin; there are countless opportunities just waiting to be taken advantage of by me! This school won’t survive a single semester!”
…
Mr. Abrams swiftly teleported himself to the 50 trained killers bothering Dome. He suffered no damages to his golden body, but at the same time, they utilized their super speed to escape many of his attacks. It was a sort of weird stalemate up until Mr. Abrams arrived.
All he had to do was teleport himself at each of their locations and give them a good *WHACK!* To silence them all. In a span of 3 seconds they were knocked unconscious, brought to his ‘sleep room’, and he and Dome were teleported to the nurses along with Four – returning the patient to them as he went ahead and checked their memories once again for reassurance, that nobody tried anything to them while he was gone.
Meanwhile, Security was at war with the retreating mercenaries. Although Mr. Abrams didn’t fully trust them anymore, he definitely had no choice but to call them in. In truth, he was the one that took those 60 away from the forest after being infiltrated by mercenaries. He didn’t wish to see them die, and at the same time, he planned to finish the night off by checking their memories for signs of tampering. He no longer has the luxury to do that now, though. Now that he called security out, he’ll need to answer their questioning about the disappearance of those 60. Of course, given his status and the mercenaries’ efficient attacks at silencing the campus before launching their assault, COUPLED with their numerical superiority – these 60 were clearly going to die tonight. If anything, Mr. Abrams saved their lives. But it doesn’t explain what happened to the first stationed security personnel patrolling the forest. He even waited until the very last moment when he felt it necessary to save them, just in case a third party would make their move. Because in Four’s memories, there was nothing at all about attacking security! By the time they entered the forest, those men and women stationed there already disappeared!
Naturally, the enemy Coalition of Mercenaries prepared some grunts to guard against security, should they get involved. This gave the leaders ample time to escape. The only Company that withdrew all of their mercenaries and left without care for the rest of the 5’s situation were Bright-Burn mercenaries. This action earned the ire of the rest, but nobody took action against them for it. 1: because there really was no time left for such a childish move, not right now anyhow, and 2: because that mercenary company only has three hundred members total. Even Daphne’s organization has at least nine thousand left in reserve who applied for her mission this time around, she simply left them behind at headquarters, not thinking that she would even need them.
However - these three hundred made up the entire Bright-Burn mercenaries, and they have never expanded beyond this number. Their leader and the former son of the now deceased Augeburn Governor himself, couldn’t help but cling to every surviving member of that horrible time.

Can he regain his own body, and would he still want to when all is said and done? [The Story] What this story is: A LitRPG, portal-like, slow-moving story with a protagonist who has to balance crafting and 'magic' to survive. The books have a pre-thought-out plot and finish. Also, the world is harsh, and things don't always go the MC's way. What it is not: A drama, romance, grimdark, although these elements might appear. I've had some feedback that the intro seems to set up a very rough life for the MC. There is a reason for this, and I hope you give it a try beyond the first few chapters. Do note, this is not an unreasonably harsh novel.

Smoking Bandits
With a gaze that was hard to describe, Lark stared at his body in the mirror. Not his body as a human, but his other body. Head of a reptile with rows of sharp teeth, a 180 cm tall body that is full of muscles, covered in scales formed green and black tiger stripes. Clawed hands and feet, with a tail strong enough to crush an adult neck. 'Man. . . can I still be called a human?' In the end, with a deep sigh Lark changed his form back into a human. A moment later, he came out of the room wearing a combat dress, tactical belt with shoulder strap, and jungle boots. While inserting a magazine into an AK-102, Lark muttered. 'Whatever, time to hunt Orcs.' *****
