《Birth of an AntiHero》Chapter 157 - Alert the Leaders!

Team 7 was a team full of broad - minded mercenaries. Whether back in their own companies, or now that this brand new coalition was temporary formed for the 6 hired to eliminate the children associated with this Hero High School’s non – combatant project, the world scorned them for having powers that are not in any way related to the common, uncommon or even varying degrees or rare superpowers in the world. It was mostly jealousy and spite by kids who’s powers were considered ‘common’ or ‘average’ by the world. Such powers were looked down upon, because there was no demand for them. They also generally weren’t suited for a one versus one fight, so without a proper team to help during every battle and after every ambush, These fellow Herotopians or citizens of varying countries were generally seen as useless baggage unsuited to be a superhero.
The Team 7 mercenaries made up a ‘special’ team for unique powers that were tasked with only moving out during unique situations…
But a translated way of interpreting that such a placement was this: “We don’t know where to put any of you… so just stay here for now. At least until we think of a better usage of your time and abilities.”
But this begs the question… how do people GET their powers and supernatural abilities? And why are their so many of them on Spes Nova? Furthermore, have these strange powers always been lingering around Earth without anyone knowing?
Well, the truth is… not at all. There are a few who’ve seen the growth of mankind, but they definitely haven’t all been able to go unnoticed by humanity, or it’s overseers. In fact, there have always been a select group of ‘humans’ if they can even be called that anymore...who’ve spent a very long time chasing the tails of these hidden powerhouses before the worldwide confession.
After such a confession and ‘reveal’ shook the world, things became peaceful for many Nations that owned one. But that only applied to the common, average citizen. Naturally, Countries feared such an anomaly and used their own laws to either charge said hero with such things as treason, endangering those around them, illegal experimentation, breaking the more minimal laws like obstructing a police officer’s duty, and unlawfully taking criminal matters into their own hands. Battery assault charges, damage to public property and more were all used against heroes to mount pressure. There were only a handful who mixed in showers of appreciation and respect for their country’s heroes’ good deeds. Naturally, the right to investigate their ‘citizen’ by studying, experimenting on and ensuring they learn every aspect about the hero such as their identity and powers to effectively limit any threat said hero can pose to them.

In reality though, these cushiony praises of glory – or threats and charges were merely words of intimidation to ‘control’ the power that’s landed in their hands. For these ordinary people, they were far more concerned over the fact that they now contained a ticking time bomb within their borders – and one they couldn’t reign in through brute force, if necessary.
They wanted comfort knowing they didn’t harbor a dangerous element that could be used against them within their nation… and from that perspective, one could hardly blame them for wanting a sense of comfort and control. Any nation would do their utmost to prevent a potential threat from existing if it was not controllable like any other weapon was.
So regarding the question: Have these powerful beings and superpowers always existed without humanity even aware? The answer would have to be ‘Yes they have been able to avoid average society from spotting them’, but also ‘No they have not managed to escape the eyes of EVERY human’.
After Countries buckled down hard, some heroes ‘disappeared’ while others worked with their own homeland’s most intelligent brains to produce and replicate their powers for their own personal use. The easiest to replicate were super soldier bodies. These had already almost been accomplished by various countries in the dark without the surface world knowing. Second to be studied to perfection, and currently the most common long – ranged ability in use on the continent of Spes Nova – were psychic abilities. Namely: Telekinesis, Psychokinesis, Elemental types of kinesis, such as pyrokinesis, and unbelievably: mind – reading.
While these abilities were undergoing scientific scrutiny, those same heroes who arranged deals with their governments found themselves becoming more and more irrelevant. They were surely compensated...but now, they were quickly becoming obsolete, as special task forces were created with their replicated power.
Those who went into hiding during this time quickly began development of Spes Nova in Secret. And while they began creating their own continent within the territories of powerhouse nations like the USA, a strange movement began to stir.
And that movement led to the discovery of what many have ridiculed for countless lifetimes as ‘movie effects magic’.
...REAL magical arts.
But this team isn’t comprised of anybody like that.
No, they aren’t. Their powers are miscellaneous and out there – ranging easily from rope manifestation and control, insect repellent powers, gas eradication, key creation ability(five times a day), green thumb(has good luck and success with planting, harvesting and farming all manner of plants and greenery), summoning timed bombs in mid air that will automatically detonate after 3 – 5 seconds, depending on how much energy is put in and much more. They are each useful in extremely specific situations – hence, why they were absorbed into a mercenary company. But in an assassination type of mission like this one… they seemed like extra baggage.

Unfortunately for the Mercenary Coalition, these useless team members are all that they have left deployed freely within the forest. Teams 4, 5 and 6 all met with ‘unexpected mishaps’ during this trek through the North – Western forest. Their biggest problem, was the lack of communication with the rest of the world outside of the forest! More specifically, in regards to their 6 - company Mercenary Coalition!
Thanks largely to the electronic interference, and their own inability to teleport, send a messenger drone out or even fly; Team 7 faces the same terrifying fate as the teams that came before it. A pitiful demise in waiting!
…
They did however, have one unique advantage the other 3 teams who entered from the North, West and East sides respectively, sorely lacked. That was their Captain’s ability: Captain’s gaze!
Honestly she changes the power’s name whenever the mission needs her use of it. With Captain’s gaze, Captain Taluya can actually ‘see’ as far as she needs to… or as far as her small energy pool can support. Thanks to many instances of spiritual training over her long 27 years of life, she managed to train it harshly. She trained this specific power so much, that it now can cover the ENTIRE North – Western forest. None of her fellow 6 – company - Mercenary Coalition members’ plights escaped her gaze!
…
To put into perspective… It’s basically a weaker version of Mr. Abrams’s ‘Remote ‘Viewing' power. And is the only useful psychic power on her team, Team 7. With it, she clearly saw the madness that swallowed up Team 4 in a fit of despairing anguish and betrayal. Their side was practically a war – zone, and would have been much worse had Captain Dawan chose to forget about it all by escape, similar to the leader of Team five escaping right before the ground was split apart!.
Speaking of Team 5… they all faced one of the most a terrifying moments in their life: Falling! Falling from such a height, where the depths below seems to have had zero end in sight…. Was a scary thought. And this isn’t even considering the SIZE of the hole. There was no way of climbing out, once you fell in.
Team 6 had the very dirt that was scooped out of Team 5’s hole … come crashing down on them like an overwhelming meteor!! The dirt collided with itself and transformed into half a Sphere! They used two massive attacks to try and bring it down, but the sphere would only ignore their plans. Finally, it crashed down upon them.
Ah! There WAS a moment when she heard screams of random people in the distance through her Captain’s gaze. And as she looked carefully... she clearly captured the gazes of 50 strangers falling to their dooms – the flat and barren forest flooring. She didn’t know who they were, but she could make an obvious guess. Overwhelmingly pompous and stuck – up, the Spectral Daggers Mercenaries Corps did not sound like they could ever lose. Yet, look at what’s happening from now! They were falling out of the sky like rain droplets. Whatever she plans to do from here on out, she MUST make the best use of their time to call or look personally for either a better signal, or the way out!
Captain Taluya: “AHEM! E-Everyone…? I just wanted to announce that...well, everyone should start looking for a way out. We HAVE to prioritize getting information back to the 6 leaders about what exactly is going on here!”
