《Birth of an AntiHero》Chapter 85 – Villains vs! ...Civilians? Part 11.

6: “(Did this guy...just call himself a bunny?)”

6 didn’t have to chant anything special to activate her power. What she needed were two things, and they were VERY important to using her power. She needed to 1: Focus extremely hard on the one she’s attempting to heal without disturbances. 2: 6 needed to maintain that for a full minute. Suddenly, she found herself in a passive predicament!

Or… at least, she DID find herself in a passive situation… before Li Shun blew the momentum he earned with a timely sneak attack and carelessness on his enemies’ part.

Li Shun: “I… I did it? …

...Hah...haha! I FUCKING DID IT--”

*KACHAK*

Li Shun only had enough time to instinctively turn his head at the noise when his brain recognized the sound for him and moved his body forward. As his head turned to look at her, his body dashed straight – This was extremely lucky on his part, due to what followed shortly after he took his second step.

*BANG!*

...

*BOOM!*

6: “Hmm. To celebrate in front of an enemy… boy, you sure have some guts.(That punch...coupled with these reflexes from a point blank ranged shot….

.

.

Could this one be like those two in the forest?)”

Li Shun: “Shit...Shit SHIT!! Stupid, stupid, stupid, STUPID me!! If I had bitten her jugular too, then I could have won this! How could I make such a rookie mistake?! I’m so stupid! Such a fucking moron!!”

6: “’Bitten my jugular’?...That...doesn’t sound anything like what I saw you doing to my partner. Are you perhaps, stupid? (Could I have been wrong? Let’s test him.)”

Li Shun: “!!”

The slightly embarrassed boy sobered up some thanks to her remark. He took one last look at the man felled by his fist, and stepped toward 6.

Li Shun: “...Shut up! My mind was still in bunny mode! Besides, it’s just you now! Without your partner, how are you going to -”

*KACHAK*

Li Shun: “Oh, yeah, that’s right. you have a-”

*BANG!*

.

.

.

*BOOM!*

Li Shun: “Aaah!”

This time around – the bullet grazed against his skin. Not only that – but he noticed the moment it crashed into the end of the hall, the bullet actually exploded! This wasn’t the only thing Li Shun saw. The woman called ‘6’ by her teammates was keeping her distance every time he stepped forward, by shooting at him.

Li Shun didn’t only see this fraction of a detail. About 3 other things caught his attention and forced the reckless teen to make a mental note of them:

1) She kept eyeballing her fallen partner. Why would she? Does she have feelings for him or something? Impossible. Villains don’t have feelings…!

...At least, that’s what he thought to himself.

Most likely, he has something sensitive on his body that could incriminate her somehow – or she was... planning to heal him!!

2) She was hesitant to step forward at times. It’s like... she was being cautious. SHE was being cautious of HIM?! That’s freaking ridiculous! HE was the victim here - NOT her! Sure, he took out 5 with a single punch, but ANYBODY with a good right or left hook can do that! Maybe he was special..? NO! There’s NO reason for her to fear him!

And 3) ...With each of the explosions, came one less escape route! She was practically cornering him without even trying!

Or was this woman 6 TRYING to corner him? Maybe her intended target was ACTUALLY the bedroom and end of the hallway that now contained a patch of searing flames blocking entry! Coupled with this newfound suspicion, ‘6’ started to move sideways, mumbling to herself all the while. It was as if the villainess were trying to calculate something while he was stuck mulling over his next plan of action!

...How did Li Shun manage to notice so many things at once?

Obviously...it was because of a habitual trait.

Being forced into a game of cat and mouse, or farmer and the chicken, because Li Shun wished to save people that couldn’t wait for a hero to arrive – trained the male into being ever observant to his opponent’s EVERY action. This included, but was not limited to:

His opponent’s breathing – to discover how much effort they were putting in, at the time of the crime they were committing.

Their minor body actions as well as reactions – to find out if they were planning to pull off a surprise attack or similar act on either him or the victims.

The damage they caused, to get a faint ‘feel’ on how he should approach saving people.

The close combat skills they were truly capable of portraying: to see if he could properly escape the villain’s grasp, should he need to do so when the hero either comes late on the scene, or no hero is called whatsoever…

He isn’t superhuman by any means, but he DOES have an abnormal observation skill-set that helps for times specifically of this nature.

Unfortunately, he could NOT have predicted 6’s next move – at the very least, not with his ‘OH fuck, she’s trying to kill me!’ mentality!

*Kachak!*

Li Shun: “Oh heavens above, not again!! AAAAHHH—-Ahh? She’s ... she’s aiming at my feet?

.

.

.

Does she think this is like those wild west movies where you shoot at somebody’s shoes to make ‘em dance?

.

.

.

Is she an idiot..?”

6: “I’m not an IDIOT you tiny asshole!”

Li Shun: “Wha- you are a very VULGAR villain! I do NOT HAVE A TI--

...actually I don’t know….”

6: “Have fun-”

Li Shun: “*Dashes* If you think I’m going to just STAND AROUND and dance, then you ARE a crazy lady!”

6: “*Trembles* I..AM. NOT. CRAZY! Have fun FALLING after the GROUND gets destroyed by my explosions! I wonder how much of a fall it is, from the first floor all~ the way down to the basement?! AHAHAHA!”

Li Shun: “Oh, shi--”

*BANG!*

.

.

.

*BOOM!*

Li Shun immediately halted his sprint and mad dashed away in the opposite direction – just barely making it to a point where he only felt the explosion’s aftershock. The floor around his prior location blew up in a spectacular fashion, but this time, said explosion was too close to his body. Even after running – one ordinary, albeit more athletic than others, teen, cannot outrun a fired bullet. As far as he did run, he was sent flying even further through the air by the blast’s shock wave.

For nearly a minute, Li shun was rendered heavily disoriented.

Yes...for nearly a minute.

Li Shun: “DA--*Cough* *Cough* Ptew!

...Damn. Dammit – Dammit! An idiot...I’m such an idiot!

‘Just charge at somebody that has a weird bomb shooting handgun!’

*Coughs up blood* Ptew!

Great fucking idea, Shun!

Ah, dang it! I...I feel str...ange.”

The world kept spinning and his ears rang intensively like they were being struck by a hammer tied with a myriad of ornamental bells. He couldn’t hear, and everything seemed a bit blurry. It wasn’t that HE was spinning… the world was!

...This is his view point.

He tried to stand...but fell.

Once again attempted, once again fell.

Finally, the boy admitted defeat and stopped being so stubborn.

...He took slow breaths… crawled to the nearby wall on his right side: and used THAT as leverage to support himself.

Then, things became all too clear.

Or rather...not so much ‘clear’ as it was white…

Everything was pure white surrounding the woman’s location.

Li Shun: “What..? What’s that--”

His pupils increased exponentially upon the realization of what that ever-bright white light represented.

Li Shun: “SHIIIT! FUCK – Fuck, Fuck! NO!! That’s the – that’s the same EXACT light from the video!!!”

the light expanded, stealing all forms of visible sight from those witnessing its ascending majesty.

As much as Li Shun TRIED, he just couldn't shake the hateful feeling of inertia. He wobbled closer to her, closer to that ‘light’

Normally white light made you feel all warm and fuzzy. This time, however, the bright, white light reminded him of an all encompassing … death sentence.

He tried to move – and slowly… slowly but certainly: he regained movement!

I mean, it’s actually more correct to say he regained BALANCE, but to him, in his eyes, what he lost wasn’t balance. It was the simple act of moving properly in any direction he pleased. Moving forward was what he regained, and moving forward was what he intended to do!

Only, he was forced to stop after taking a few steps because a wall of fire impeded his path.

Li Shun: “Ah! She tricked me! This was a multi – step plan! Dammit, I’m such an idiot – a moron! How could I fall for such an obvious ploy! I even had two chances to memorize the fire wall effect after the bullets exploded! Now, unless I run through the fire, I can’t stop...her?

.

.

.

Wait...wait a moment. Is that..?”

What Li Shun noticed in his moment of crisis would be his saving grace. The very weapon underestimated and highly underrated during a terrible fight like this. It is the ONE thing present in nearly all fights taking place within cities, rocky areas and scrapyards!

And his worry-filled eyeballs shined with a hope he’d never before felt desperate enough to crave.

What he chose to pick up was...

…a piece of rubble.

One that he wordlessly chucked at his assumed killer.

The white light dimmed softly before forming a number upon her forehead: 37.

then, the forehead displaying that strange number...received a thick, vase-sized impact. It was a loud *THUMP* that dropped her backwards.

One *THUMP* was followed by another, and then the white light came crashing down.

It was almost like an attack from the far off ‘heavens’!

After falling straight through the roof, it struck 5 fiercely – appearing as if it wished to fervently devour him alive.

5: “Uuuwahahaha! I’m alive! I’M BACK!!

Ahaha! Hey, thanks a lot si..x? ...Six?

6? SIX!! 6 answer me - what--”

*BANG!*

Li Shun: “I...did it..? I...I took them both out..? I...took them both out!! Yahoo! I did i---”

Light hits 5.

Li Shun: “...Dammit. That light hit 5 in the end! What’s going to happen nex---oh. He….just wakes up..?

.

.

.

Well, *Picks up another piece of rubble* better to not take any chance--”

*BANG!*

Li Shun: “...s..?”

Li Shun was feeling ecstatic… then angry. Then cautious...then confused.

The woman he CLEARLY smashed a piece of hard flooring with—was getting back up. Unharmed! Worse. She looks pissed.

And even worse than that – her bullet just shot straight through the flames in front of Li Shun, which, in contrast, caused those bullets to explode early – WHICH happened to explode almost directly in front of Li Shun. He still clenched onto the rubble he nearly threw when the explosion took place. Luckily the rubble served to protect his face...but he was again, sent flying. This time, he received more than just inertia and disorientation.

6: “You...fucking BRAT! Do you have ANY IDEA how much that HURT?! Luckily when using my healing powers on myself, it’s extremely fast! But NOW – I can ONLY use it 2 MORE TIMES for the ENTIRE day!! I’ll fucking personally kill you!”

5: “…

Six, he ain’t movin’. He’s just a kid after all. That explosion probably did him in already.”

6: “CHECK. HIM. NOW!!

Haah...I’d rather not use my precious bullets to kill him actually. You do the job 5. Make up for your embarrassing failure when that inexperienced kid beat you up.”

5: “...What kind of Wizard or witch uses bullets anyways…

...Where’s all your magic?”

6: “My bullets ARE magic. I enchanted them all. Now *claps* chop chop!”

5: “...Whatever. Heheh. Your luck has FINALLY run out, you know?”

*Walks through flame*

6: “Burn his face good 5….Oh wait. You can’t touch that part. Orders…”

5: “Damn. Well. I’ll at least burn his neck to a crisp as thanks for that punch he gave me! Heheh!”

10 steps away: and 5 could already feel the excitement pouring out of his body.

9 steps away: he wore a stupid grin as he thought of all the things he would do to the unforgivable kid. Burn the fingers first? Maybe sear an elbow or two? Getting a picture of HOW he would torture his victims always helped him ‘prepare’ the right method for the right foe…

8 steps away: He transformed his fingernails into tiny balls of fire. These traveled all the way down through each finger.

7 steps away: After his fingers came the palms. From there, he connected the flames to his wrists and held it closely to his face.

6 steps away: He glazed passionately at the fiery blaze formed in his hand. It always brought him a sense of comfort – solace and warmth. He wasn’t at all immune to fire just because he used it, but there WAS a minor immunity for the hand that birthed the flame being controlled.

Furthermore, he found absolute pleasure in gazing through the flame right before he scorches a target into a pile of charred flesh and ash!

5 steps away: …

He paused. The room he had his throat crushed was on this side. How did he make it to 6’s location when he fainted around here? Oh well. Either way, with the kid half-dead, there would be no more surprises. He briefly turns his gaze back at his dying enemy and begins to walk away.

5: “Hmph! Heheh. Kid, you picked the wrong-”

Ian: “EAT MY MOM’S RUBBING ALCOHOL, BITCH!! IT’S FLAMMABLE!”

5: “...What the fuc-”

*BOOM!!*
