《Birth of an AntiHero》Chapter 70 - The Unbeatable Referee's punch.

Her fist collided with his chest.
*CRRACK!*
*BOOM!*
His body immediately shot through the air.
100 feet…
1000 feet...
10,000 feet…
All she did was punch him once – yet, the force from such a physically empowered fist generated a turbulent whirlwind that seemed to desire turning every wall surrounding it into debris. The flat and metallic platform cracked throughout the king’s flight path. Everywhere he flew: the raw force formed from Ophelia’s punch cracked the metal surface. Similarly, cracks were starting to form on the barriers which dutifully stood to protect everyone currently seated in the stands…
The arena below them had been reduced to such a disastrous, cracked state...and all she did was punch him!
There was a thought that almost everyone privy to the uncommon spectacle below harbored deep within each of their psyches.
‘Wh-What the…
...That stupidly strong punch… managed to crack the anti-power barriers? HOW?? Aren’t they resistant to powers? If that’s the case, then why…?’
This unknown oddity was an even greater confusion for the people, and manifested much higher fear then the actual destruction itself.
The reason was obvious: she reduced their sense of protection. If she’s really capable of destroying anti-power enchantments that could even block attacks from elite villains like it was made from cardboard: then what couldn’t she do?
...What they didn’t know, was that her brute strength alone shouldn’t be capable of such destruction.
An ‘enchantment’ is a type of powerful ‘rule’ put in place in order to accomplish various tasks by creating the necessary effects. Some simpler ones can alter the properties of a weapon while others can protect a massive building with a single symbol. Some say that this technique was brought over from another world, so it’s incomplete while again, others argue the opposite – that it’s always been there in our history and humans in fact, invented the technique but had never finished it.
Regardless, It had been brought back and advanced by magical Enchanters and Enchantresses alike who hoped to study the craft, and possibly discover what exactly was missing.
BUT!
The crucial details important to creating enchantments are 1) The symbols themselves each have power! And 2) When forming an enchantment by combining multiple symbols or even if you use a single symbol: Your understanding and intention will largely fuel the basic foundation of the ‘rules’ your enchantment functions off of.
What this all means is simple: Anti-Power barriers are designed to stop even the brute strength of a non-human race or physically improved human, mainly because the ‘enchanter’ ‘assumed’ being physically altered is a superpower. If the enchanter intended for anything above a normal human’s punch to be resisted, then it would happen so long as they chose the appropriate symbols.

Other factors are involved, but the anti-power barriers used in the amphitheater consider really strong muscles and punches as a ‘power’, because the Enchantress who MADE the protective symbols considers body alterations or beyond average strength as a ‘super strength power’ meaning Ophelia’s punch just now, should be safely resisted.
But the reverse came true instead.
Somehow, some way, the barriers almost entirely broke apart! THIS scared everybody watching, because there was no logical explanation for it!
Were her fists JUST that heaven-defying?
…
The momentum Harvey’s flight gained wouldn’t even slow down an inch. He sped through 10,000 feet and kept on sailing.
11,000
12,000
13,000
14,000
15,000
16,000
17,000
18,000
19,000
20,000…
The arena itself was about 5 miles long. That was already considered MASSIVE for a single arena’s length to reach. But it only reached 26,400 feet in length! If nothing was done soon, Harvey would eventually strike the anti-power wall!
Suddenly, a bright white light enveloped Harvey’s body, and he vanished without a trace!
Or… well, there was a slight trace. It merely took the drones some time to find where his body was.
There for everybody to see, a fair-skinned adult with wavy, white hair barely noticeable beneath a modern styled top hat, was pushing against the broken King.
His tempered hazel blue irises locked onto Harvey’s chest cavity through Remote Viewing.
*Ccrack!*
Clearly, it was caving in on him. The pressure just kept ramming directly at his wound without stop. At first he teleported Harvey towards his location at the ‘original’ spot Harvey and Huroznik fought... But some of the pressure came along with him. Mr. Abrams was not a strength – focused combatant. But that didn’t mean he couldn’t handle something of this level. He was pressed immediately, and traveled back a single step, but the attack ended there.
Harvey was knocked out cold. His chest looked in pretty bad shape.
The Principal safely landed but didn’t intervene after receiving Houdini’s message. The reason? Because he immediately needed to turn his focus on preventing the barriers from shattering!
While one worked on saving the people in danger, the other helped prevent a life-threatening casualty. This was pure team work.
Unfortunately… massive damage had already been done. It was repairable, sure but it would take a few days.
Principal Leyman: “This… how did this happen with the anti-power barriers in place?”
Mr. Abrams: “Hell if I know. Dammit, this is just too confusing – her blow wasn’t even that powerful!”

It’s true. To the students, that punch that skyrocketed a large and very heavy weightlifter like King Harvey must have seemed Godly:
But to them?
Such a punch that only made one travel a distance of 5 miles was feeble.
If anything, They were even slightly curious over ‘How far’ Ophelia’s severely restrained punch can send someone of Harvey’s body mass, but they didn’t wish to delve into the reality of such thoughts. It was far too sad to even think about. If Mr. Abrams hadn’t stopped Harvey’s body mid-flight – the sure, he may’ve been sent upwards some 70,000 feet through the air, breaking through walls and buildings alike. But His chest was already caving in after 20,000. Any more then that…
And Harvey would be a corpse.
…
Elijah: “…(Harvey….got creamed. With that strength...she’s dangerous – REALLY dangerous to put near a bunch of non-combatants. If...if I had my former strength, could I even beat that punch?)”
Oliviera: “…(What the holy leechums was that..? What did… did she do to him? How did she punch him so hard?? I always knew she was a monster.)”
Rhys: “...*snore*”
Elijah: “Haaah. How could you sleep through all of that? You’re devotion to resting is kind of envious. Haha~”
Oliviera: “King Rhys...His… um- err, concentration is praiseworthy! I’ve GOT to snap a pic! *Flash* *Flash*
King Rhys…
Prince Elijah…
I’m just so...Uhuhuhu~ Eeee!”
*Bam!*
Rise: “See?! I TOLD YOU MY NOSE COULD LEAD US BACK! We didn’t NEED the teacher!”
Noel: “And how was I supposed to know that, when we discovered you crying like a baby outside of the bathrooms?”
Rise: “Hey I didn’t cry! It only got confusing to track my way back to my seat because the bathroom stank! It wasn’t because I was scared or somethin’ I ain’t no wimp!”
Noel: I didn’t SAY that, you did! All I pointed out was when I heard you sniffling like a baby~”
Rise: “...Says the youngest in school. If anybody is a baby here it’s you!”
Noel: “...Are you asking to die?”
Rise: “I should be saying that!! I was only sniffling because my nose was AFFECTED BY THE SMELL! Which mind you, WORSENED when you went inside!!”
Elijah: “...How co-”
Noel: “Wha- You liar! I only peed! Maybe your nose is just broken! You probably got lost because it isn’t even trustworthy! That’s why you acted so surprised when Mr. Abrams told you how far away from the stands you were. Or maybe you got close to the bathrooms on purpose to stalk people! Wierdo!”
Elijah: “Noel that wasn’t very ni-”
Rise: “Grrrr - - you’re SO lucky I don’t hit children, or else I’d just follow my instincts already and TEAR YOU TO SHREDS!”
Elijah: “Rise?! That’s mean! Telling people you’ll kill them is not how you-”
Noel: “Instincts? Ha! Try acting a little more civilized you barbarian. You APE! Besides there’s no way you can win against me in a real fight anyways so give up the pipe dream. It’s just embarrassing!”
Elijah: “Noel...you’re only 12. You’re also short. Look at his muscles too – Rise would-”
Noel: “Age has nothing to do with it! Height has nothing to do with it! I’ll still--err actually I take that back.”
Elijah: “Aha! So you could here m-”
Rise: “Ha! What happened to all of that grand-standing? What happened to all your fury? You’re just like a bir- no! You’re a CHIHUAHUA!”
Elijah: “...”
Oliviera: “Pfff, hahahahaha! Now that I think about it – he DOES act like a chihuahua!”
Elijah: “Okay guys! That’s enough – no need to make fun of-”
Rise: “Right? Hahahahahaha.”
Oliviera: “Hey – DON’T you interrupt Prince Elijah I – I – I mean just Elijah!!”
Elijah: “...Mr. Abrams when are you coming ba-”
Rise: “Grr, I do what I want you two faced-”
Noel: “Wha...What’s a chihuahua?!”
Elijah: “...Noel...have you...never seen a Chihuahua before?”
Rise: “You’re kidding right..? You’ve GOT to be- he HAS to be kidding!”
Oliviera: “Noel...a Chihuahua is a dog…”
Noel: “Mmm, stop speaking in tongues and tell me what a DOG is then!! I can’t respond to him if I don’t know!!”
Elijah: “You’re… you’re serious aren’t you?”
Oliviera: “*Sniff* Noel, you *Sniff* You’ve never had a pet dog before?”
Rise: “Hahahahaha! Oh this is too rich! Bahahahahahaha!!”
Noel: “Oh, it’s a pet? That’s why then. I thought it sounded strange.”
{Birds, cat’s snakes and rats. Those are what I can find in a pet shop, I remember now. I actually did learn about dogs before. They’re like Wolves but weaker, and depend on humans a lot more to survive.}

Tips to reading: This is my first book, so cliches and tropes are used as the base and then expanded upon. My intention is to make it a casual read but deep if you decide to look closer. I'm not a people person, so my focus and purpose for writing this is to explore the world building and magic system, not necessarily the characters. There won't be a villian until the postgame ;) Author's philosophy: I took an professional personality inventory (through a community college back in 2018) and was categorized as a "double-checker." I'm never satisfied with the work that I complete, and never want to share it with anyone. But this book is a challenge to myself! As a rule of thumb, I will only add to the story. I can't remove elements I've already included (unless absolutely, absolutely necessary). PS, I'm a native English speaker.

Apollyon's Curse
Within the pages of folklore and fantasy, tales of people who chase after the dream of eternity, of living forever, rarely find a happy ending. They are either struck by the grim truth of reality, give up, and return to mortality or face a ghastly realization of their wishes. The latter often the worse fate, as they come to realize, only far too late, that what they sacrificed was worth far more than the time they gained. Ultimately, the common thread in these stories is that “immortality is as much a curse as it is a blessing”. People either realize it early and give up or are doomed to inevitably face its consequences. In the world Enrich lives in, that saying does hold merit. Every pathway towards eternal life has shackles of its own. They bring those high above down to the ground, evening the playing field. It is thanks to these fundamental laws that ambitious mortals are able to defy the heavens and achieve immortality themselves. The variety of methods result in each of these bindings varying in intensity and degree of freedom. Enrich’s path doesn't break this trend. Though, after what he did to himself, most wouldn’t even consider him a living thing anymore. On the day of his ascension, a world’s worth of souls were melted and recast. On that day, the human’s path had reached its conclusion, recast into Apollyon. An artifact, a weapon, is eternal, after all. As for the curse? The payment will be made, as it must. So why not offload the curse to someone else? Mortals throw their lives away for all manner of petty reasons, noble or otherwise, especially in desperation. Eventually, someone will be willing to foot the bill. Most will if given the chance. The bait is far too tempting, after all. Power, status, knowledge. All at their fingertips. If only they say “yes”. And Apollyon is very willing to help any lost souls. If they give up everything in return, of course.
