《Birth of an AntiHero》Chapter 19 - The fallen Star Family and the girl named Fate Part 1

A grand city that towers over the land. Sky scrapers which threaten to pierce the clouds and well-maintained streets with cushioned guard rails to protect its citizens against even the craziest of drivers.

Iridescent street lights whose twin bulbs interchange between black lighting and LED at specifically-timed intervals, are each adorned with a camera in order to allow constant monitoring every minute for 24 hours.

Typical city accommodations such as Public garbage bins, recycling bins, Signs to locate Public locales, Public restrooms and Public benches are plentiful throughout the territory.

Yes, it looked like an ordinary nation – newly sprouting inside of this vast, and, crowded world.

Save for one unique rule that is...differentiating the ability-loving utopia from regular countries.

“Those with special capabilities outside the realm of 'normal', as well as their loved ones who provide them with a clear and positive influence...they alone, are allowed to live here. The only exception to this rule is for those that are extremely talented in defending themselves against said ability-users.”

Every public facility situated inside Herotopia, as well as the miscellaneous places such as streets, alleyways and parks were all strangely adorned with...symbols. These odd symbols seemed to protect an ordinary park bench against minor burns or light impacts. Using a lighter and some oil in an attempt to burn it black, or even trying to smash it into insignificant splinters...neither idea would work easily.

Such mysterious rune-like shapes can be found throughout the nation, as if attempting to prevent some unforeseen catastrophe from damaging its pristine and near-perfect cities.

It's a shame though, wherever there's heroes living a fulfilling and happy life, trying there utmost to train younger generations into upholding order...villains are bound to appear.

Those who abhor peace, who loathe everything justice strives to protect – they continue to resurface in order to remind the cocky do-gooders that without 'evil' justice has no place in society.

Suffice-to-say...there are countless deadly fights occurring almost on a weekly basis.

.

.

.

Yet, even so!

Even when facing an onslaught of nearly endless criminals!

Even while some lives are threatened, and others outright ended!

Heroes will always rise – and the utopia created by heroes, for heroes – Herotopia:

Shall never fall.

?: Excuse me! U-Um...Oh! Excu-Excuse me *trips* Ouch! Owww...”

??: “Hey! Watch where you're falling, you clumsy girl! You almost got DIRT on my uniform!

?(clumsy girl?): “I'm sorry...”

??: “Hmph! Damn nerd. It looks like Hero High will let just about any fool in these days, huh? Let's go!”

One girl walks off with her coterie of followers, leaving another to pick herself off the ground before examining the newly acquired uniform for potential damages.

?: “Phew! No tears in the dress at all! Heehee...ah! Oh no...there's stains! But-but, it's supposed to be presentable because today's-*Sniff* today is orientation! What am I gonna do...I couldn't *Sniff* afford a second outfit...”

Just as the mysterious, bespectacled girl had started getting worked up: A very short male with dirty blonde hair and an abnormally large backpack, rushed to her before pressing a button on one of his prized bag's straps.

Immediately popping out from his backpack's upper segment is what appears to be a smooth, white laser gun with an attached long, metallic neck akin to a detachable shower hose. Bright light emitted from the firearm's muzzle, before shooting away at the defenseless and unprepared girl.

Just as she prepared for the worst...

the white light enveloped her outfit, completely ridding it of the myriad stains and wrinkles.

?(Bespectacled girl): “Nng...huh? What the? MY...my dress!”

Dirty Blonde shortie: “Hmmhmmm~ See that? My amazing prowess strikes again! I know, I'm awesome.”

?(Bespectacled girl): “...Thanks...I think? I'm very happy that you helped me out...but, umm...”

Dirty blonde shortie: “No problem, no problem! Those of us who get picked on are better off sticking together...Ah! Where are my manners, I haven't even introduced myself yet. The name's Ian! What's your name, I-I mean, if I may ask?”

?(Bespectacled girl): “It's...Aria. Um, bu-but I...really need to...go to the library before...o-orientation...”

Ian: “Oh! If it's only that then I'll be your guide, no problem!

...Hey, wait: there by your left foot. It looks like you dropped something earlier when you fell over. Don't worry, I'll get it for you, no problem!”

The short and kind-hearted boy quickly bent down to grab it for her, but the exact moment he touched it...he received a shock!

.

That's a literal shock, by the way.

As in, his fingertips felt like they were rammed directly into an electrical outlet!

Ian yelped in pain, as the girl screamed and pushed him to the ground. She then grabbed the spark-inducing book and shoved it back inside her left arm sleeve, before realizing what she'd just done.

Aria: “Oh my gosh, I am SO sorry! I'm sorry...it-it's just, I didn't know what you were talking about until I already saw you touching it and by then, I could only think about how to separate you from the book as fast as- Oh Gosh, I am just so-”

Ian: “It-It's fine...heheh, only a minor discomfort. I-I'm willing to act forgiving towards the ladies haha.”

Aria: “...”

Ian: “....A-AHEM! Anyways...about that book. What exactly...is it?”

Aria: “Haah, I have no Idea. Back when my parents were still alive, they would always read me this specific book before bedtime. I like to think of it as...a sort of, well, 'family heirloom' from them.”

Ian: “O-Oh I'm sorry for your loss. Still, isn't it strange? The title reads 'Diary of a woman named fate' but it clearly has no author. Is there some sort of secret code or something involved in finding out who wrote it? Or, could it be...is it a...magic book?! Like, the kind that grants anyone who reads it magic in those movies and rpgs?!”

Aria: “No, nothing like that. My mother wrote this book...at least I think she did. I always watched her jotting something or other down inside of a dirty old book that, kinda...looked like this one right here.”

Ian: “Aww, so it isn't magic? NO. WAIT! If it was so simple then why did it shock me just now?! Quick, lemme try again! Maybe I can get elec-”

Aria: “No! Stop touching! Ah...”

In a fluster, the poor nervous teen immediately shoved Ian back down the moment he approached her sleeve.

Ian: “Okay, okay. Sheesh, I'm sorry I asked. I didn't know you were going to push me again. Now I have to reactivate my cleaner 2.0...”

Aria: “Sorry...it's just that, well, you see...for some reason, only I can safely touch this book. Before my mother passed away, she would always warn me not to let anyone come near it. I don't know why...but everybody just gets electrocuted or burned in the end. There has never been anyone who got magic powers from touching this thing either, so...you should give up.”

Ian: “Aww. Unfair! Then, can you at least share with me what it says inside?”

Aria: “Heehee, of course!

Okay, so the story goes like this: At the center of our Universe lives a special clan of 'star people'. They were very frail, lacking in strength more than any other star family within the vast and ever expanding universe.

However, their ability to alter destiny and reality itself, bypassing the natural laws mortals have and have not yet discovered, loses to no one. That is why they lived in the center. That, is why they became the star people's royal family.

Nevertheless, their fragility was always one of their biggest weaknesses, and one day: a newly risen star family took advantage of that.

Though their powers paled in comparison, this new family's numbers were vast. How this new clan grew into a massive, threatening army was due to absorbing smaller star families around them who found themselves enticed by their sweet nectar-like lure of power.

The royal family, knowing their time of peace was at an end, guided all their clansmen and clanswomen together in order to unleash one last 'hope' of defying this perilous ordeal, that was supposed to lead every royal clan member, without exception, to their deaths. The ones to sacrifice themselves turned out to be the Queen, the King, and their Royal Advisor. By forcing their powers to the maximum output possible, They managed to send their 15 year old son, their 4 year old twin daughters, the queen's sister, her own kin, plus a few cousins from their deceased siblings' sides, 40 years into the past and on a foreign, long-forgotten planet, at a very remote location in their glorious universe.

That planet, is called Earth.

Such a limit-breaking move forced their already fragile bodies far past what they should've been capable of enduring. Naturally, both the King and Queen, breathed their last.

The advisor, loyal to his brother and the queen, could only wish the others good luck, as he embraced his wife and soon to be born child one final time before the invading subjects could reach the Palace door. While he questioned his wife, Esolle, on her decision of staying behind with him, she could only reply as such: “Traveling to a new world in the past, without you, would never work. Not for me, not for you, and not for our child. Because, my dear, sweet valorous martyr of a husband: You, are already my world...and I, am forever yours.”
