《Transcendental Shifter》Prologue The Prince With The Relic

I was probably around seven when it first happened...

I had hoped one day I could change many people's lives... I had thought this every day after all of my family died... I had hoped I could make nobody suffer the same ordeal I had to...

Shortly after my family's death, I caught a fever...

The doctor told me I may not make it...

Then it just happened... I had a dream much different from anything I'd had before...

I awoke as a young boy in a grand palace. Each room was large and had a busy feel to it. My mother and father were both servants of the king, and I, a servant of the prince. The prince had caught a fatal sickness that would slowly progress over time, but I wanted to save him at all costs. I didn't want the prince to die and lose the family he had, unlike me... In the end, I got sent on a trip to find a rare relic in an abandoned church far away from the kingdom.

Along with me, a few others were sent in search of this relic that was said, to be able to cure any sickness. As we reached the church, Jack one of the few sent with me died of a fever. We tried our best to stop it, and even looked for the relic to save him, but failed. One by one my companions dropped like flies until it was just me searching for the relic. It took around two years before I arrived back with the relic.

As I brought it, the king and queen cried as they hugged me before the guards grabbed the bracelet. It seemed as if the boy only had a few days left to live. They swiftly rushed to his room as they pricked his finger and his blood fell upon the jewel-encrusted in the bracelet. The gem glowed for a minute as the prince's breathing became ragged before it ceased. The court physician turned around and shook his head, as the gem stopped glowing. The king and queen wept at the thought of their only son dying, but shortly after he started breathing again before waking.

That was the last time I saw anybody from the palace before my vision went hazy and darkened. Two boys around my age smiled at me as they thanked me. One was the boy who I had been in the dream, the other being the prince. The prince thanked me once more as he took a bracelet off his arm.

"Keep it," he said as I looked at it, "You might need it some time."

It was the relic I had gone in search of for two years to save him. I thanked him once more before his servant thanked me. After that, I woke up in a hospital bed. My face felt hot, as I struggled to even move. I violently coughed as blood came up. I quickly moved my arm to cover the cough but was too late as my blood hit a golden bracelet on my arm. The ceiling lights shined upon the gem embedded in it, as it began to glow.

I looked in confusion at the bracelet, as the burning feeling in my head began to ease. My vision went hazy as I looked around at the swirling room around me.

The doctor was amazed by my recovery. He said I would've died within the next few days. I was confused, by many things at the time, but the most, was me being confused about how I got the relic from my dream. I ignored it for the time being and just enjoyed the thought somebody cared for me. I, myself afterwards decided to think of it as a mere coincidence that it was the bracelet in my dream and just tried to focus on school. Now, this was the only time I figured something like this would happen to me, but it truly was just the beginning. More dreams like this would begin to occur often as time went on and I learned this was no mere coincidence.

Everybody's anticipation had reached its climax as the bell rang signaling the end of the school day. The peaceful silence had now ceased as it got filled with noises and speech from students across the school. It was now summer break for a young boy, who looked to be around the age to be in high school. Students rushed out of the school, as the boy walked out the door. He sighed with relief as he began to walk home.

A few kids could be seen playing on a playground as the boy passed by. Cheers and laughter could be heard from the kids as a boy began to chase the other kids. The boy's house was not far from school, which he was thankful for. He sighed as he put his key into the lock and unlocked the door. He swiftly opens it before tossing his bag on the couch.

The boy then shut and locked the door before beginning to climb the stairs at a slow pace. Opening the door, the boy changed his clothes, before falling onto his bed. Getting up, he grabbed a book he had been reading with the title "How To Learn Magic Even If You Have No Talent". He flipped the leather book open as he flipped through the pages toward page seventy-seven.

The boy clicked his television off with a remote, as he began to climb the stairs once again. He flopped onto the bed before hitting a switch turning off the lights.

"I have a feeling tonight will be eventful," sighed the boy, as he shut his eyes.

A man awoke in a small room, with a fire crackling from the fireplace. As he got up, he scratched his beard, before looking at the rags that he called clothes. Half a loaf of bread, a half-empty cup of ale, and a knife lying on an old table.
