《Black Ice》Chapter 17

Lei and Heise Talked for several minutes as Heise told his situation. He mentioned his fathers Death and everything that happened by that point. Lei was surprised by Heises knowledge and how smart he was for his age. In fact Heises talent was even greater than his. As the talk went through Lei liked Heise more and more and he suddendly came up with an idea.
"Heise, how about i become your Teacher. We will make a contract of master and disciple, but with the condition that you will help be rebuild my body." Suggested Lei. He just coulden't Help himself. It really was an upportunity he couldn't miss and he also didn't have any other method since he couldn't exist Heise's inner world without getting damaged outside.
Heise got exited. A master of the god level will surely help him in anything that has to do with cultivation. He nodded in agreement.
Lei smiled. He expected such an anwser. In fact he was even a bit surprised as well. Heise had just met him and he already was trusting him. He had to fix this habit of his.
Lei wasn't a bad person. In fact he was one of the nicest gods to have ascended since he didn't involve himself into political arguements or even fightning at that. Although he was really powerful and rather Scary when mad, he hadn't really killed a large amount of people in his path to ascension. In fact the amount of people he had killed didn't surpass 100, which is rather small in the Cutlivation world. The fact that his clan was seclusive helped as well.
"Well for us to make a contract i need to extract your true essence. Which means i have to enter your Spirit." said Lei.
"True essence? Enter my spirit?" Asked Heise. He really didn't know of such things.
"i should have expected that you wouldn't know this. True essence is something that every being in this world has and its the source of our life, so basically the core of the soul, or rather the spirit. The only exception is the Ghost race, since they are made out of the True essence itself, however their true essence is different than ours." Said Lei as he was about to perform a Heavenly art. Although he was a soul he had a small of Heavenly energy inside him. However that amount was limited, once drained he would have to go into hibernation so that his wouldn't be destroyed.
Heise braised himself. Lei disappeared as heise felt a jolt. However a few seconds later Lei appeared once again. He frowed as a deep look was on his face.
"What's wrong ?" asked Heise.
"Your soul has a forcefield around it so i cant enter by force. You have to calm down and trust me, or esle i wont be able to enter and end up harming myslef. Dont worry the only thing i want to do is get the signature for our pact." said Lei. He knew that the situation was sketchy but it couldn't be helped. He really wanted to take Heise under his wing. This will also make it easier for him to get a body.
Heise nodded. Although he was a grown adult and rather smart, his flaw on socializing always existed. He really didn't know how to comunicate with people normaly, so this situation didn't look weird to him.
[I will have to teach this kid about basic socializing] thought Lei. He realized that Heise was too trusting. Even though he just met him he was already trusting him.

Lei performed the Heavenly art once again, this time succeeding. He entered inside Heise's soul or rather his mind.
Many cultivators didn't know this but the depth of a cultivator never ended, that's how soul cultivation began and god's started. Lei's first reaction entering Heise's soul was shock. This place looked like the universe itself in a miniature version. Galaxies and black holes could be seen. Neutron stars, red dwarfs, white warfs, normal stars, everything that can be found in the galaxy. Lei took a deep breath as he started swearing. "This kid is too abnormal! This is a God level soul already! What the fuck did i do all those years!" He said.
Taking a deep breath he went on to what seemed to be the center of this place. A black crystal was slowly turning around as stars orbited it. Lei frowned. This was the center of the soul, but he couldn't see any True essence. In fact The way to extract True essence is by going into the center and finding a pool filled with it. The color depended on the person or race. However in Heise's case a black crystal was a that place.
He looked around, trying to find the pool. As he was looking he noticed that the stars orbiting the Crystal were kind of weird. He got closer to one and noticed that they werent hot, but rather cold. He went to touch them and noticed that they were liquid. He took a deep breath as he went inside one of them.
After a few seconds he found himself inside a room that had a gate that was locked. Its style was that of a Paifang. Lei was surprised. He took a few steps forward seeing that there was a seal placed on the gate. Intrigued he tried taking off the seal, but he failed. The force placed on it seemed to be really strong. He Placed his palms together as he performed a Heavenly art. Lightning wizzed by as it struck the seal destroying it. He didn't expect this matter to be anything serious, since from what he could tell it was a memory seal. He thought that a 6 year old child having a Memory seal didn't make sense so he removed it.
At the same time the seal was removed Heise's shook. His head started Hurting out of nowhere as random memories started popping in his mind. He sat down as he tried to calm himself, but failed.
As the memories past by Heise felt more and more lost, his eyes dulling.
"How are the speciments?" Said a person in a lab coat. He was quite old, wrinkles clearly seen on his face. He was missing one eye, as the inside could clearly be seen. He had a bland look, as if nothing mattered but his experiments.
"Sir, we managed to get ahold of 15 Children!" Said a person behind him. He was clearly following orders as if it would kill him if he didn't.
"Great, have you tested their endurance and Inteligence? We need the best human weapon, i hope this round of speciments isn't going to be a disapointment like the last one. Not even a single one of them managed to survive, throw their corpses to the guard dogs." Said The old man. his look still bland.
The person behind him bowed as he proceeded to follow the orders.
The old man passed by a glass room filled with children. They all seemed to be panicking except one. It had black hair with big blue eyes, a small mole located below its eye, on its cheek. It seemed to be confused by the situation, but it didn't really panic. It looked through the glass window and made eye contact with the old man.

The old man was delighted. "Quickly start the experiments! I want to see what this batch has to offer." he said, an evil grin covering his face.
A group of people came in and dragged the kids by force, placing them into independent rooms. The old man was sitted inside a room filled with Monitors, monitoring every single one of the kids.
"Start with the Stamina test" He said into a microphone, transmiting it all over the facility.
All the children were put into binds as they were electricuted with thousands of volts at a time. The children screamed in pain, as their skin slowly burned for the heat the electricity produced. The old man laughed, as he seemed to be pleased by what he was seeing, as if it was a show for him.
After 20 minutes the torture stopped. Several kids had already diedd, only 10 managed to survive. The Old man laughed once again. " What a great harvest, to actually get 10 Out of a batch is quite good." He said while rubbing his hands. "Perform the IQ tests after the kids are fully healed. I don't want to ruin my speciments." He continued as he left the room humming.
Meanwhile The children were put into the same room as they were taken care of. Their injuries seemed to heal really fast, thanks to a liquid that the people there gave them.
After several hours the children were in an optimal state to take the iq test. Even though it was just a few hours the children were completely healed and fine thanks to the drug they gave them.
They were each designated a room where they were tested on different things. Connected with different pads and wires, they were given a drug. Stats popped up on a screen with each childs iq points.
Most of the results were on the average, around 100 iq, which was expected. However 3 of the children had an iq higher than average. In fact one of them was a lot higher than the others.
"Excellent, excellent! Such a good harvest. We even got such a nice specimen! Quickly assign them their numbers and start the Human weaponization plan!" Said the old man, his eyes flashing brighter.
"Test number 2201 Begin!" A voice said. The voice was bland, without any feeling.
A little girl came into the room as she was sitted down in front of a Tv screen. The lights went out as a video played on it. The little girl was drawn in, as she was slowly getting brainwashed, every sense of humanity and individuality slowly fading away from her. After a while the little girl exited the room, a blank look plastered on her face.
"Test number 2202 Begin!" The voice sounded once more. This time a little chubby boy came inside the room. It clearly was afraid and didn't know how to handle the situation. He was forcefuly seated down in the same screen. After a couple of minutes of watching the clip, his expression started dulling.
These experiments went on till the 10th kid got inside. It was the kid with the black hair and blue eyes. His expression seemed dull even before he entered. After entering and watching the video he was further lost.
He got outside as his eyes were completely blank. The old man walked towards him with an evil grin. In fact he was quite pleased at the moment.
"Such a great specimen! To think that i would find a specimen with 400 iq and in such a ruined mental state of mind. He will surely be a good weapon." He said, licking his lips
The 10 children were put through hard training, resulting in life threatening injuries every single day. They had completely forgot who they were, or even have any human emotion. The Old man would place them inside a room with a bunch of agressive animals, or even trained professionals, that would try to kill the children. The children were slowly taught how to fight and got injected with drugs every single day.
The strength this children had was more than that of a highly trained professional weightlifter and when it came to skill they had reached the skill of a high grade assasin. The greatest product out of the 10 children was the black haired blue eyed kid followed by the little girl.
Several months passed by as the children had become completely mindless machines of murder, killing people mercilesly on every command. In fact they had no mind of their own. The drugs they were given made their body grow leaner and cleaner, while increasing their strength. In fact the fat kid looked perfectly normal by now, increasing his charm as well.
The doctor came in once more, his smilling face greater than ever.
"To actually succeed in creating 10 Human killing machines. Im so pleased at the moment" He said a flush apparent on his face. He had been working on this experiments for years. Even though this was a job given to him it was also a goal he had for years. A twisted man like him was ruinned from the very beggining.
"010, come forth!" He ordered.
The black haired child came out. In fact his looks were quite different from before. If you could call him a handsome devil it would be an understatement. Even though the children were of small age, they were complete machines at this point. He Looked at the old man, awaiting orders. Even though he looked completely obidient and blank deep down in his gaze a look of self doubt had appeared. A 6 year old normaly wouldn't have that kind of gaze.
The scientist happily smiled. 010 was his greatest creation, the perfect kiling machine. "Go to the following location and assasinate this person." He ordered while handing out a foulder filled with information of the subject.
The child nodded as he took hold of the foulder. He quickly flipped through and disappeared into a shadow figure. The speed this children had was in fact so fast that they could be tracked with the human eye. It was all thanks to the drugs the old man had developt.
After a few days news made the headlines "One of the leading scientists was assasinated today. The assasin remain unidentified". The following months news like this one were popping up all over the world, Fear had spread over the scientists and politicians. Even hiring a professional body guard, or even the fbi for protection couldn't help the victim live at all. All the assasinations were a success.
The kids were clearly brainswashed killing machines with no control over their mind. One day while everything was normal in the facility, a sudden explosion happened. The place was under attack by a unity of different factions and countries. They put on a lot of effort and resources in the finding of the place just so they could stop this power.
The black haired kids eyes flashed, as he smiled. He turned around to the other 9 and said " Well guys seems that the clues we left behind finaly gave fruit to them. Well lets go ahead and rampage now, i know that the drugs are making you hyperactive."
The children smiled back and shook their heads. Even though they were just children, the experience and inteligence they had already made them smart enough to be compered to adults. Thanks to the black haird kid they were able to regain their previous self and had already thought of a plan of freedom. Even though they would probably lose any type of knowledge of these things, it was better returning to normal society.
The kids went ahead and and slowly killed the people working there. Every single one of them was scum that should be killed, people like them that dont care about human life and treat them like life stock should be killed without mercy.
The agents arrived in the scene of 9 bloody children. They had blank looks, as if contoled. Knocking them out they took them away, later removing those memories from them, returning them into society. The agents and soldiers that arrived knew the situation, so they couldn't blame the children.
The black Haired kid was later found alone, having killed all the scientists and even the old man, in control of the whole thing. He was covered in blood, a smile covering his face.
6 months later, the child was inside a hospital, having been awakened from a coma. He had no recollection of his past memories, he blankly looked at the ceiling.

Sword System Academia
2/17 NOTICE: I'm putting this on hiatus, possibly permanently. I didn't want to spam with an "update chapter", so hopefully here and in the story blurb will get enough eyeballs. There are a couple reasons for ending SSA for now. 1) I wrote the next chapter but wasn't happy with it. I've been less and less satisfied with SSA's quality the more I thought about it. Part of the reason is... 2) I am seriously thinking about trying to publish some novels to help pay the bills, since I don't have my other source of income anymore. I have never asked for anything from SSA readers, no money, not even a review or rating. SSA is written for fun to amuse myself, primarily, and I would kind of feel bad actually charging someone money for something as unserious as that. I don't think it is good enough to ask anything in return. To use an analogy from music, SSA is more like a jam session with a bunch of friends. You're just chiling and having fun playing some music. I mean, if you are Mozart or even Eminem, your jam session is good enough to sell, but for an amateur beginner like myself, haha, no. If I want to publish something, I feel like I need to go the proper route of practice and rehearsals, which might be more similar to a classical concert performance. With SSA, I work from worldbuilding notes and a loose outline, but what you are essentially getting is the first draft with lots of so-called pantsing. Pushing out a web novel like this also means it is very difficult to go back and improve things without breaking everything else downstream. I wanted to try this "jamming" approach, as it was a good way to teach me about another aspect of writing, but to move forward, I think I need to hone my "classical" techniques, which emphasize rewriting, or at least, revising outlines. 3) While I intend to try to make $$$, my actual current goal is to "get gud". I've spent a lot of time recently trying to understand the self-publishing industry, and I'm pretty sure I can make some money by using short-term strategies with my current amateur skill level. But I've seen too many authors come and go/burnout, and really, the only way that I think I can enjoy writing and still make money on a long-term basis is to become a better writer. And the next step for me, which I haven't done much before, is to spend more time on rewriting and outlines. That is pretty much antithetical to the way SSA is developing. I've always been kind of 20/80 plotting/pantsing, but I want to spend a lot more time outlining before I even start writing. SSA jam sessions don't really fit my goal anymore. If you're curious about what's next, read on... Among other regrets, I regret not finishing SSA. It's the first story I've dropped, but then again, it's the first web novel I've attempted, so I suppose that's not a surprise. I don't think traditional web novel formats suit me that well. The whole SSA story I had loosely planned (beyond a first book or major arc) is way too large as well. Big story = good for neverending webnovel with Patreons, bad for penniless and fickle writer like me. I am currently outlining a complete trilogy to another story in great detail. I want the story to end concisely, and I also want the chance to really spend a lot of time on the full outline to spot pacing problems, character issues, lost themes, and so on. I'll still share this story on RR. What I intend to do is finish book 1, flash-publish the whole thing here for a few weeks, then publish on the big Zon. Repeat for books 2 and 3. The upcoming story will be about crafting heroes. The backdrop is an isekai-like setting, where elves will summon humans to their world as heroes, but the whole hero crafting business is still in its infancy. The elven mage researchers are figuring out how to imbue heroes with power, while the heroes are trying to figure out how to use the powers that they gain. Humans are the best hero templates because they are blank and have no intrinsic magic. Or at least that what the elves thought. The human MC has his own secrets... There will be some similarities with litrpgs, but I would call it more a progression fantasy or gamelit story. For example, the stats are very low, at least initially. Say we have a stat called Str. Going from Str = 1 to Str = 2 is a huge deal. Also, going from Dex = 0 to Dex = 1 is an even bigger deal. I guess you could call it a "low-stat litrpg", haha. Also, the heroes won't be gaining stats simply by killing things or leveling up. You can't increase stats arbitrarily, either. There will be rules to how stats can increase, and how they work with each other. The elven mages will be figuring out these rules in order to craft stronger and stronger heroes. Some inspiration will be from cultivation magic systems, but there won't be overt cultivation, at least for now. A theme I really want to explore is the idea of interactions. That includes things like hero crafter vs hero, tactics vs strategy, skill synergies, racial interactions (dwarves, elves, etc), and son. Yeah, so hero crafting. I'm super excited about this project and venturing into publishing. If you want to check out the upcoming story, you can follow my RR author profile to see when it drops here. Finally... THANK YOU TO EVERYONE! I'm very sorry that SSA is stopping, but I hope at least some of you will find the next story at least as enjoyable, if not more. Thanks to all the readers who gave SSA a shot. Big hug or solid fistbump to all of you, whichever you prefer! I hope this message is not a downer but an upper, because I am psyched!! -purlcray -------------- BLURB: Talen, youngest Master of the Koroi, makes his way to the Empire's capital to salvage his clan's fate. But the bustling city has few opportunities for the traditionalist. For the old sword clans are fading. With the rise of alchemy, gold can purchase strength that ordinarily took years of training to cultivate. Sword artists, once rare and accomplished, are quickly growing in number, especially among the wealthy noble class. Even with such alchemy, though, no one has advanced to the rank of Grandmaster in countless years. Talen's true dream is to walk the path of a sword artist to the very end while fulfilling his clan duties. And then the Swordgeists return, fabled founders of all sword arts, gods who had touched the world long ago and vanished. These myths turned into reality warn of a coming threat. Alongside this warning, they issue an invitation to the Sword System Academy, a path to power beyond the mortal realm. But first, they will hold an entrance exam... Story notes:Sword System Academia blends elements of western and asian fantasy such as xianxia and litrpg. I took parts from different genres I enjoyed and twisted them into my own creation. There will be an explicit system, both of the litrpg kind and the hard(ish) magic kind, but it is embedded within an academic structure that will develop over the course of the story. This is my attempt to design a unique type of system, the System Academia.

Hero
Kuren is just your average boy. He's just been asleep for one thousand years. Heroes and grand epics. Kuren doesn't have the time to think about things like that, nor does he really care. Join Kuren as he wanders the fantasy land of Alurca in search of his lost memories and the reasons behind his lengthy slumber. This is sort of a reboot of Anomaly, the first novel I tried to write. I gave up Anomaly after going to college. I thought about going back to it, but... when I look at it now, it's not very good. It was very edgy and not much substance behind that edge. The story wasn't quite going anywhere since I hadn't given the main character a goal. I had planned out a story, but I forgot to to plan out the details between the beginning and end. So this one's for real. Hopefully you won't be disappointed.
