Chapter 8 Assassin
Dan's eyes twitched as he observed the black figure speeding over the area.
An assassin?
They had really send an assassin after him?!
Couldn't it have been at least a level three expert???!!
Angrily he threw a punch at the window, shattering it instantly. It had a hole in it anyway and had to be replaced now. The sound of glass shattering echoed through the room, as his figure once again blurred with him activating his movement technique. He quickly shot into the darkness of the night, chasing after the fleeing attacker.
Even thought it was deepest night and the assassin’s attire was perfectly matching it's pitch black environment, the assassin had no chance to get away from Dan. After all Dan had his initial skill, Emperor's eye that allowed him to see a human’s interior and that made the body glow red in his vision.
Following the red glow only he could see, he silently followed the figure across the roofs.
Dan was kind of irritated. Of course he already expected an assassin to be sent after him. After all there was an assassin guild in town and Ricks would be a complete retard to slip the chance to kill him by sending an assassin after him.
In worst case the only thing he could lose by doing this was a bit of money and a replaceable assassin, of whom there were hundreds in the city and in the best case he could kill Dan without losing anything in his side.
It was only a logical decision to set an assassin on him, but what irritated Dan was not the fact that there was an assassin, but the assassin itself.
Through his eyes he could clearly see that the glow emanating from the assassins body and it clearly only belonged to an average level two expert.
He could deal with assassins, he could deal with schemes, he could even deal with his sister (!), but THIS injured his pride!
Not only was this assassin only a level two expert, from his movements he could also tell that he definitely hadn't much skill in his profession. His jumps were a bit too long, lifting him too high above the darkness between the roofs and leading to shadows. His landings from roof to roof had small stops in it making it obvious that the man wasn't properly trained in this aspect.
No matter how good this assassin could snipe or fight, these two things alone already told of his inferior skill!
Cursing a little he decided to simply take care of this small fry assassin and go back home to sleep. The assassin hadn't noticed him following him, the difference in cultivation level and movement technique was just too big. Because of this after having crossed most of the outer district and almost reaching the western district, he started to slow down and become less cautious, leaving himself completely open.
Dan almost face palmed himself seeing the incompetence of this guy. A bit of anger flamed up as he muttered.
"Seems I will have to make an example. For them to send such a failure after me…..truly disgraceful!"
Still, even though the assassin slowed down, he was still constantly heading into the direction of the west district and Dan couldn't allow him to reach the Death Crown territory. To deal with him there would cause too much trouble and could even result into serious consequences later on.

Because of this Dan finally decided to act. He abruptly sped up and used his movement technique to 'run' through the air, directly reaching the assassin.
Now finally the other noticed that he had been followed and reacted at the attack by pulling out a small caliber gun and aiming it at the rapidly closing in Dan. A shot was fired and flew off into Dan's direction, but Dan had already predicted him and timely made a small turn to the side, making the bullet that was aimed at his head hiss through the air and by his left ear.
The assassin instantly continued his fire sending three more bullets at him, each of them aimed at another point and forming a 30 centimeter triangle. Dan made an annoyed frown at this. It seemed this assassin wasn't as useless and incompetent as he originally thought.
Still Dan easily countered this attack by sending out three small steel needles to silently pierced through the air and deflected the bullets out of their course. They uselessly pounced into the street or walls of the nearby houses.
Now the assassin was troubled. Even through most of his face was hidden by a black mask covering his chin, mouth, and nose his eyes were clearly showing displeasure at the development of this fight. He clearly knew who he was fighting against and only had a small hope on using a good opportunity to escape.
But his possibilities were extremely limited. The long ranged sniper rifle on his back couldn't be used in a close ranged fight like this and while he had a few small knives and a long blade on his body, he was extremely clear that in terms of real close range fighting he had no chance of survival against Dan.
Running out of option the assassin gritted his teeth pulling out something from his west.
Dan's eyes grew sharp as he saw the small round object his enemy was pulling out. It was a small military grenade, something that was really hard to get around here. It was usually only available to the troops stationed at the front and had much higher explosive power than normal grenades.
Something like this wasn't supposed to be in the hands of some random assassin!
And this was not all!
Simultaneously with the small grenade pulled out, the glow around the assassin also intensified completely outstripping anything that could be at the second level and reaching the third level eventually growing to the peak of it.
Dan was shocked. This assassin,
he was as powerful as himself!
Dan's thoughts raced as he analyzed the situation.
For the military grenade and the peak level three assassin…It seemed that this fight against Death Crown and the other factions in the city wasn't as simple as he imagined!
Still,
right now he had other problems. In front of him was some loser assassin that wanted to blow him up with a military grenade….. the situation wasn't exactly suitable for any deeper analysis. He quickly acted as he pulled out another steel needle, this time a bigger one about 20 cm long. He threw it and aimed at the assassin’s wrist. The needle flew hissed a bit as is cleanly hit the assassin…..
into his hand…
The needle only missed the grenade by a few centimeters piercing through the assassins hand and making him drop the dangerous explosive.

Dan stared briefly before muttering to himself.
"Seems I have to practice as bit more…"
At the same time the assassin suppressed his pain and pulled out the needle out of his hand as a female voice came from him.
"FUCK, ARE SUICIDAL?"
Dan stopped for a moment.
"Wait…. your are a woman?"
The assassin stopped in his tracks.
"N-no, h-ow could you think something like this?"
A muffled unnaturally deep voice came from him. It was obvious that she tried to let her voice sound like a man's. Dan just frowned annoyed as he flicked his sleeve, causing a small needle to precisely server the connection of the mask with her hood.
The mask slid down revealing the assassin's face.
It was a young woman's face. She had fairly beautiful features, dark brown hair reaching to her shoulders and delicate brows that showed clear embarrassment and anger. She stared at Dan, her dark green eyes telling of her being unsure what to do now.
Dan stared for a second before dryly noting.
"Your from King's Sanctuary aren't you? If I remember correctly you’re the daughter of that old bastard that decided to suddenly come out from his hiding!"
He was kind of surprised, why had King's Sanctuary acted against him without any notice? Normally they would at least publicly declare their intention to kill him. If they didn't do so there would be doubts after they declared to be his murders. After all the prestige of killing was worth even more then his actual death!
Furthermore to send the boss's only daughter…. this was quite illogical!
Mira froze even more obvious as she heard Dan's words.
"I-i'm not Mira!"
"You are."
Dan remarked as he looked at the beauty in front of him. He seemed to be at ease now as he waited for any reaction from the stifled girl. But even though he seemed to be relaxed and calm, in truth his brain was working on high speed.
Military equipment.
Death Crown.
King's Sanctuary.
The boss's daughter.
A level two expert.
Boobs
Ammunition.
Skilled assassin.
He was rapidly trying to figure out just what could have happened in order for all this things to appear in this one night and on this obviously not matured girl. But in the end it was all for naught…..
the girl spilled it out by herself.
"H-hey you. Y-you have to promise to tell Dad nothing 'bout this!"
Her unsteady voice reached his ears. Dan just nodded, signaling her to continue.
"W-well, you kn-now, in truth dad d-didn't allow us to cause any trouble with y-you all. H-he t-told us to stay o-out of all this. B-but I kind of wanted to s-show him t-that I'm stronger then h-he thinks and so….
Mira grew embarrassed to the end and left the sentence unfinished.
"And so you decided to come and kill me with some rifle to show him the strong, dumb, and short sighted girl you are."
Dan simply completed the sentence, sighing at the girl's idiocy. Mira on the other side grew red as it was exactly as Dan had concluded it to be.
"Sooo,"
Dan continued.
"Where in HELL'S name did you get the military grenade from?"
This was by far the most important question. Something like the grenade was never supposed to appear in the city and be used in the fights between the factions. Even if a faction got one of them into their hands, there was no way they would use it in this fashion.
Dan simply couldn't believe that King's Sanctuary could have some of them and allow this stupid girl in front of him to have access to it.
The girl grew quiet as she heard Dan's question. It was obvious that she rather wouldn't disclose this secret to him.
"Oh I might as well just take you with me and send your father a small notice that his daughter tried to kill me and that I will only release her for information.
Now that I think about it, I could also just slice you up and tell your father that you are still alive…."
A mocking smile appeared at Dan's face as he let Mira comprehend the threat.
The other became pale as she clearly new that Dan could really make his threat's true. The short fight earlier had clearly shown her that even if she used her whole cultivation and everything at her disposal, even escaping would be extremely hard!
"N-NO!
My father and the faction had nothing to do with this!"
Mira panicked. Neither the thought of her father finding out what had happened, nor being sliced up were really up to her taste and if she wanted to avoid this future she had to quickly convince Dan to hear her out.
Dan saw the panic in the girl’s eyes and snickered to himself.
'This girl is easier to manipulate then I thought. Guess if I wanted to could even get her into my bed now.
….
wait, why do I seem like the bad guy now?!'
Dan quickly shook his head, getting rid of his evil thoughts. Mira bewildered observed him making strange movements out of the blue.
"So where is this stuff from?"
"Death Crown….
Well I heard they were searching for capable assassins, so I went there and proposed to kill you for free if they gave me suitable equipment."
……
"Really now?!"
Dan was surprised as he heard the girl’s explanation.
He couldn't quite believe that even if Death Crown took her as assassin for free they would give her such a rare grenade. One had to know that this grenade was enough to completely level a big building!
But looking at the stupid face the girl was making he couldn't really imagine her to lie, so in the end he was forced to believe her words.
"Well…
Dan sighed to himself.
"I will get you home and have a nice talk with your father then."
"Y- you promised to keep this a secret!"
The girl objected.
"Well…
… I lied."
Dan smirked as he shot forward before the girl could even react. He made a quick chop against her neck, Mira collapsed into his arms unconscious.
Dan had just hit her Vagus nerve. Normally knocking someone out this way is almost impossible but with Dan’s Emperor’s Eye coupled with his abilities as a cultivator, the chop was made with extreme precision that it was possible to knock her out.
Dan then simply threw Mira over his shoulder and shot off, heading for the central district. He wished to meet the mysterious soul stage expert of King’s Sanctuary.
