《Sovereign Immortal (Technically not cancelled?)》Chapter 17. Four Tests, The Mind-Heart, The Physique, The Spirit-Soul and Essence (Part Nine)
The Mind-Heart, the Spirit-Soul and Essence, they were virtually the same thing until one reached a very high level.
But even at the Start of Cultivation, they would be minor differences which differentiated them from each other.
The Physique Test would normally also see if people had special talents in their bodies if they had Innate Divine Strength if they had special roots which allowed for a quicker way to cultivation for certain elements.
Unfortunately, nobody had roots, even if they did, they would like the Meridians and Dantians be reported and checked on the Spirit-Soul Test.
The Spirit-Soul Test checked upon one's Meridians, Dantian and Root. It was seen as the most important Test after the Physique Test and was seen as the most Important when one attained the Emergence Stage.
Then there was the Mind-Heart Test. If the Spirit-Soul Test, tested the Meridians, Dantian and Root, then the Mind-Heart tested the Heart and the Mind.
Those skilled in the Mind-Heart were capable of comprehending the True Laws of Fire from a mere wisp of flame even when another that had Fire Based Meridians, Dantian and Root tried to do likewise to a Fire Source.
It was the ability of comprehension and having a sturdy mind. This was all created through hard work, after all, could you be born with the ability to comprehend the True Laws? Perhaps some Variation or God Beasts would be capable of doing so with inherited memories, but humans simply couldn't.
At birth, a baby had a weak mind and couldn't comprehend much, but perhaps, that baby may grow up to have an invincible mind and comprehend the laws of the World.
This same rule applied to everything, the potential of humans were endless, but at the same time frail....
Other than the Mind-Heart was Essence.
Essence was very strange, it was the Essence that you exhibited from the lives before, the experts of Zhou Ye's World couldn't explain it, or perhaps they chose not to?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Beginning now was the Essence Test, it was simply as written as so, if one decided to change the order of the tests, then they could, but the Physique Test still had to be first.
In all honesty, the Essence Test was actually optional, if one decided not to do it, then they didn't have to.
The First Emperor made it one of the four Tests, but beyond that, nothing else was known about it.
As time passed, it became less and less important.
Those like Zhou Zixin, Shen Yaozu, Kov Peng, Kov Zedong and others like them, simply felt it beneath or not worth their time to do so.
Zhou Ye originally felt as doing so, but he chose not to as he feared that as Tang Xuan's was somewhere slumbering within him, he would cause a strange reaction with the Test Orb.
A few minutes passed, and the Essence Test was about ending, not that much bothered to take the Test.

Some people were even intimidated by the masses simply looking at them.
Li Deshi was simply watching, to him every minute seemed to be akin to a day.
He could Cultivate in closed meditation for several years if not decades, he would even do so without a care.
That was what he was doing before he was awakened after a Hundred Year Cultivation Meditation.
But right now, those years he spent in a state of meditation for Cultivation, seemed to be akin to a second.
He was waiting, waiting... For the one who had somehow almost fully devoured his Heavenly Lock.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now there was the Spirit-Soul Test, this Test had the criteria of checking the Innate and Inborn Body with their Root, which Elements one's Soul and Body could match with.
In the past, the Innate and Inborn Body with one's root would be checked on the Physique Test, however, time brought forth with it changes.
Most of the relevant Physique Test Characteristics and Criteria were taken by the Soul-Spirit Test, perhaps in time, the Physique Test would be relegated to only physical strength and nothing more.
The Spirit-Soul Test tested two things.
They were the Spirit and the Soul.
Noone on the entire Continent would be able to properly describe the Spirit and the Soul, they could at best only give what they thought it was like.
However tens of thousands of years worth of information was able to tell that the Spirit and Soul were Indistinguishable, however at the same time, very different.
The Spirit was the extension and the Soul was the Inner Sanctum.
The Spirit extends and builds upon the statue which acts as the Foundation, the Soul draws upon the Heavens and is protected by the Mortal Body.
If one died and the Mortal Body is extinguished, then there would be left the Spirit and the Soul.
Perhaps some powerful experts of the Mind-Heart would be capable of otherwise, but if one thought of anyone, even those that never even started on Cultivation, when they died, the Spirit and Soul remained.
When a Mortal died, their Soul would enter the Reincarnation Cycle, their spirit would spend some time on the Earthly Land and it perhaps might dissipate or undergo a transformation.
But Cultivators were different.
To truly kill a Cultivator, their Soul and Spirit would have to be extinguished.
As long as a Soul Emergent Cultivator was prepared to give up their Mortal Body, he or she could then live on merely their Spiritual Body with the Soul as the nucleus and Spirit as the body.
Even Spirit Foundation Cultivators acted as the same, however, those that were killed likely wouldn't be able to create a Spiritual Body with their Qi.
It would be more likely that their Spiritual Body would be swept away by the wind and those that had their Mortal Bodies destroyed would also likely have their Soul and Spirit extinguished by the one who destroyed their Mortal Body.

The main way to survive without a Mortal Body was simply preparation...
As the Spirit-Soul Test was now beginning, Li Deshi couldn't help but remember a certain individual.
He was thinking of the Quasite Valley Lord. Unparalleled in his Generation, the Quasite Valley Lord felt little to no challenges.
But his Generation was only one of many dozens of which that Li Deshi had lived through.
But the Quasite Valley Lord was the Star of his Generation.
But, it was only after his death, that he became the Star of his Generation.
This was because he was said to have cultivated a strange art which he found in his youth.
He practised what is now known as Revolving Stardust.
During his life, he was a normal Cultivator.
Not mediocre, but not talented either.
Before his death, he was known as Bossan.
No surname, just Bossan.
Bossan, in his youth, saw a falling object, this object was a Star.
Normally Stars were the size of Planets.
But this one seemed to only be at the size of Bossan's Hand.
Bossan didn't touch it, but as he went closer.
The Star started to turn into Stardust and it disappeared into Bossan.
After that, Bossan simply began to cultivate.
Then many years passed, he was stuck on Spirit Foundation and knew that whilst he would likely live for more years, he wouldn't become an Emergent.
But one year, before his lifespan would fail him.
He managed to break through all of a sudden, he was confused as to why, but simply lived on and believed it to be for his Good Deeds.
Becoming an Emergent, he joined the Quasite Valley.
For hundreds of years, he remained there.
But one day, the Quasite Valley was attacked by its enemy, Tesite Mountain.
The Attack was lead by its Greatest Warden since the founding of the Mountain.
The Fifth Tesite Warden.
Tesite Mountain had Three Heads during the time of the Fifth Warden.
One was the Seventh Mountain Lord who was in charge of all the resources and just above the other two, he himself had the lowest Cultivation.
Another was the Second Mountain Keeper, she was capable of creating a formation that could spread to miles and miles to protect the Mountain.
Then there was the Fifth Warden, he was simply domineering.
He was a Generation older than the Quasite Valley Lord. Perhaps if they were born in the same Generation, then the position for the Star of the Generation would've far more interesting to Li Deshi and others.
During that attack, Bossan died.
As he did, a strange transformation happened to his Spirit and his Soul started to shine incredibly.
His body began to be reformed,
This only happened during the Transition Stage, but even then, it was limited, unless of course, one was in the Sixth or Seventh Transition.
When his body was reformed, it looked as if the very stars were within them.
His eyes had the Endless Expanse of Space, his hands were like the flowing stream of the Universes rivers of light.
A single look from him could cause anyone below the Transition Stage to perish, he easily destroyed all those around him.
He even wounded the Fifth Warden and when the Tesite Mountain people saw this, they were all scared and started to retreat.
The Fifth Warden followed and left behind a letter as he went with his people.
In the later years, Bossan was made the Valley Lord, at that day, he opened the letter that the Fifth Warden gave him.
Opening it, the next day, he abdicated his Position and disappeared into the Dreaded Earth Lands with his disciples and never appeared again.
Though his disciples entered only the outskirts, even they disappeared.
Li Deshi, saw as this all happened, he could also have saved Bossan's disciples, but he chose to let the Universe decide their fates.
He was amazed by Bossan's Body, it wasn't a physical body and it wasn't of Qi either, it seemed to be a Pure Energy Body.
He later questioned the Fifth Tesite Warden but didn't get any answers.
What Li Deshi didn't know was that the Body of Stars was actually a Spirit Body and the Energy came from the Soul.
Later on, Li Deshi became increasingly interested and focused on the Spirit-Soul, he even remarked that one with an incredible Spirit-Soul would be able to become his Disciple.
It was a joke, but because of that, Governors, Marquises, Dukes, Princes, Kings, Imperial Princes, Jewelled Princes, the Crown Prince and even the Emperor himself came upon.
Li Deshi regretted his decision and had a hard time telling them all to disperse.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As the Spirit-Soul Test was beginning, there was a middle aged man explaining it.
Everyone from the Lin, Kov and Zhou Family already knew all this, they were well educated and obviously knew all this already.
But those that came from poor families weren't a small number, in fact, they were the often majority.
The middle aged man simply spoke that it was an important Test, and that it would determine your element and the alike and argued how important it was to get a good grade on their talent.
But of course, he wouldn't say anything that only when you became an Emergent would it be important.

A Dungeon Tested
Its a hard life balancing all the things a successful dungeon should be doing. Will our newest addition to the dungeon race even survive let alone make it to the top where dungeons such as the megafauna roam? Or will our main character suffer in the dust till some inauspicious and ignoble death at the end of some F-rankers sword? Note this is me having some fun while I wait for new releases of dungeon stories. Feel free to comment on that basis. I will be keeping the first few chapters slow so as to give me plenty to build upon later. I have tentatively given this the gore tag for now. With that in mind "Let the games begin".

Dungeon Crawler Katia
The aliens killed everyone on Earth...almost. Every structure, from the Taj Mahal to the lowliest lobster trap, vanished into the earth, killing everyone inside. The survivors were given a choice: Endure on the surface without food or shelter or tools, or descend into a world-spanning nightmare dungeon that is also a reality TV show. Katia, an art professor from Iceland who has given up her humanity to transform into a shapeshifting doppelganger, meets up with Carl and his cat, Donut. Together, the three fight to survive in a dungeon filled with Clarketech goblin murderdozers and pyramid-scheme fairy moonshine-makers. The above is, of course, describing Dungeon Crawler Carl. With DoctorHepa's (the author) permission I'm posting some fanfic to expand on Katia, one of the secondary characters who started off not getting as much exploration as I would have preferred. I started off writing chapters that matched up to canon except from her POV instead of Carl's; that lasted a couple of chapters before going off the rails and spinning off into a completely new story, which suggests I should really go back and renumber all the chapters as soon as I find some tuits.
