《The Crawford's Multiverse of Madness》Chapter 398 - Unexpected Attacks

Henry’s eyes lingered open for a couple of seconds, but that was enough for everyone in her class to release a collective sigh…

The trembling had stopped, and the foaming, though still noticeable, was no longer spilling from her mouth like a great horror film…

About half the students in the class were already backing away in fear since an epileptic episode could also be interpreted as spiritual possession…

Needless to say, Zeel had to stifle his laughter when one student opened the nearby window and leaped outside…

Of course, the kid would not die, but a couple of broken bones were inevitable…

It always astonished Zeel what humans would do out of fear…

Vaguely, very vaguely, he recalled a time in his fractured memories – a time when he also leaped to his Death on the Nameless Planet, instead of fighting like he was supposed to…

For some reason, his fully conscious mind had tried to hide the memory, but now that he had no such inhibitions, Zeel knew that some part of him had always been human…

Maybe, at that time, he could not feel fear but he could feel the need to survive…

He could not feel happiness, but he could appreciate a sense of peace…

Maybe, he could not connect with others, but he and Aurolana were one and the same…

Had he ever truly been alone?

That was a question no Homo-Superior Philosophical views could answer…

Shaking his head of the uncomfortable thoughts, Zeel closed his eyes and concentrated on his ears, enhancing his sense of sound, memorizing Henry’s resting heartbeat…

It may come in handy later on…

Henry was special, there was no doubt about it…

She had literally called him from a cavern deep below the Earth… such a feat would be impossible for any normal Jumper, and to top it off, Henry did it instinctually…

Her power sent out a spatial signal to bring anything to the school that could help her, and as it turned out, Zeel was the most capable thing on the planet…

Though, it was important to note that Zeel recognized he was the most capable thing on the planet, and the strongest…

Zeel wiped the smudge of foam from Henry’s lips and flicked the disgusting fluid towards the students blocking the doors, and they scampered away like anxious rats…

As an added measure to ensure his safe stay in Reston, Zeel glanced around, memorizing each face in the classroom, looking for the weakest of the bunch…

Someone who would be easy to manipulate…

And, by some miracle, the easiest person to manipulate also wore brand clothing, meaning she was not only weak-willed but had some money to her name…

Alas, she was not in the current classroom, and his Quantum Armband only had some rudimentary information functions…

Zeel turned to Shelly when Henry was stabilized “Can you give me the directions to exit the school?”

Shelly pointed to a chart on the wall that showed the entire layout of the school, and with just a glance, Zeel had memorized the ins and outs of the entire school…

The slight rumble of steps echoing off the white walls told Zeel that more students would be incoming…

News traveled fast, so it was time to leave…

Zeel scooped Henry into his arms and marched through the door with Abner following closely behind…

Abner was trying to bask in the glory of saving Henry’s life for as long as possible…

Of course, some of the students flooded behind the duo, but some also chose to stay behind…

Shelly frowned “You can’t take the student, I have called Emergency Services and—”

Zeel shot Shelly a glare and continued to walk, passing by classrooms without a care in the world as he made his way down the hall…

Soon, one long corridor turned into two, and two into three with a couple of twists and turns every so often…

Zeel was pretty sure they were lost, but when Abner turned down a couple of stairs, the feeling of being lost was pushed aside…

The doors to the exit were just ahead…

Henry’s body once again started to tremble in Zeel’s embrace, but unlike before, the tremors weren’t nearly as violent…

“Shouldn’t we wait for ERs?” Abner questioned, finally notifying Zeel of his presence since the Homo-Superior had already forgotten he was there…

“I am surprised you’re still alive…”

“You expected me to die?”

Zeel shrugged “Henry created Spatial Distortions in the classroom, I wouldn’t be surprised to see your classmates develop a brain tumor or two in the immediate future…”

“You mean cancer?”

Zeel rolled his eyes and readjusted Henry in his arms “Humans are cancer to themselves…”

“I am pretty sure someone famous said something like that…” Abner chortled, thinking Zeel meant it as a joke…

“You’re the first human I met to laugh at genocide…”

“Because you’re joking…” Abner fell silent and walked a bit faster to keep pace with Zeel “Right? It’s a joke, right?”’

Zeel exited the door and met the ERs rushing to take Henry from his arms, and, of course, he allowed them to…

It didn’t matter if they kicked Henry, stole her, or beat her to death, as long as Henry knew that Zeel was the person who saved her life…

Though it was not confirmed as yet, Zeel suspected that Henry could prove to be a successful replacement for his Mbeamer with enough training…

Without the nanites, he lost all ability to create another Mbeamer, so he would have to improvise – another very human quality…

------------------------

Jenna stood near a locker watching as Zeel, clutching an unconscious Henry in his arms, exited the entrance to the school…

“Isn’t that your step-sister being carried away by a guy?” Patty questioned, marveling at the deep, intense concentration in Zeel’s eyes…

A couple of days ago, she had broken up with Clay, but with Zeel also wearing a basketball jersey, Patty couldn’t help but think this was a wonderful opportunity…

Jenna was somewhat internally concerned, but she didn’t care for Henry much…

“And he is cute…” Patty added…

“She is probably one of those girls…” Jenna whispered, figuring Henry was the type of girl to switch guys like she switched clothing…

‘Maybe she pretended to be an introvert?’ Jenna thought…

However, when she heard whispers of Henry’s episode in class, Jenna was quick to call home because she recalled the thousands of pills Henry would take every morning…

----------------------

The moment Zeel was outside, Emergency Responders came running…

The Responders numbered five, but three of them were stationed on the school grounds…

The ambulance kept blaring, waiting just across the street which Zeel thought was stupid since they could just as well ensure Henry got into an accident while crossing the street…

Luckily, it seemed the Responders were not all idiots, since the ambulance soon switched sides of the street as the rest paced Henry into the emergency bed…

The Responders performed the basic tests, trying to wake Henry up to ascertain some information before they could start treatment…

As they rushed Henry to the ambulance, Zeel didn’t even realize that he was being pulled along until the ambulance was closed and he was seated at Henry’s side…

“We don’t usually allow boyfriends to travel with the patient, but we made an exception since we can see how worried you are…”

Zeel looked at the Responder in confusion, internally asking ‘And what part of my nonchalant and dismissive face gave you that impression?’

Suddenly, before Zeel could make his escape from the very uncomfortable ambulance, Henry entered another episode, vibrating faster than any human should have any business to…

[Shallow Time-Zone]

Without a moment to waste, time slowed around Zeel and his arms were clumped around Henry’s shoulder before the Responders could even notice anything was wrong…

Of course, they were startled by Zeel’s abrupt movement, but his current Time-Zone was not completely out of the mundane limits of understanding…

“What are you doing?” The Responders yelled, trying to push Zeel aside but he didn’t budge “You’re going to hurt the patient…”

“Trust me!” Zeel replied, “You don’t want me to release this girl…”

“I think she’s having a reaction to what we gave her…” A Female Responder suggested, and Zeel noticed the IV hooked up to Henry’s arm…

This was nothing new for antiquated civilizations, but Zeel quickly noticed what he missed earlier…

The Responders, in all their genuineness, had failed to notice a small unit of an air bubble trapped inside the injection…

That meant Henry currently had a small pocket of air running through her veins, possibly being magnified by the turbulent space inside her body…

Zeel quickly sent a pulse of black lightning into Henry’s body, causing her to sweat intensely, eliminating the problem of the air bubble in her bloodstream…

Still, she would need several IVs to recover…

“What does she take?”

Zeel subtly pricked Henry’s shoulders, and faster than anyone could perceive, he inserted a bit of her blood into his mouth, tasting for the medication floating in her bloodstream…

With the nanites, tasting the blood physically would not be necessary, but alas…

“Carbamazepine, Carbatrol, Tegretol, others…” Zeel replied, surprising the Responders…

“Second-year med school dropout…” Zeel stated, and the Responders nodded…

It is also important to note that a God would usually feel a painful headache when lying, but Zeel, like the expert he is, circumvented the rules since he never stated he was a second-year med school dropout…

He simply said the words and the Responders drew the conclusions on their own…

“She’s sweating a lot… get more IVs ready…” The Responders yelled and jumped around the ambulance, getting everything in place “And make a note of the medication, send it to the operating doctor since files sometimes get lost in transition…”

As the Responders worked, Zeel found his way to the back of the ambulance and sat, away from the gazes of everyone and everything…

[Traveler’s Eyes]

Zeel activated his ability and peered through the ambulance, meeting the eyes of someone standing nearly a thousand meters away…

There he stood, meeting eye to eye with Zeel…

Mojdeh…

The person who Zeel suspected transported him into the Underground Cavern to begin with, and Zeel was confident Mojdeh would try to teleport him back as soon as he let down his guard…

Now, Zeel knew for sure…

‘I have to stay next to Henry…’ He thought, working a plan in his mind ‘Her explosive power protects me from unexpected attacks…’
