《Overtake The Astral: Searching for Good Life in Another World》Chapter 8: Her Adventure
Advertisement
It has been two days since that day.
My outfit is already tattered. They are not clothes meant for long distance travel so it cannot be helped.
I am walking around aimlessly at noon. I know that I need to go to town soon but I have little experience in travelling outside area near Graize household. I am still not sure when I am now to boot.
In the past two days, I have been eating unknown fruits from trees that were short enough for me to climb. Some of them are too sour and bitter though. I cannot find any sweet fruits so far. I have some knowledge about fruits in this world by looking at books in library and from fruits that were purchased by maids but none of the fruits here are known to me.
I wanted to eat meat but in order to do that, I need to defeat monsters. To be honest, I don't feel confident that I can beat any monster around here with my current equipments, especially that wolf monster with sharp tail. So I gave up on the idea and continue to avoid them as much as possible.
I wanted to take a bath in the river yesterday but I felt a huge mana coming from the river. It might be from a dangerous monster living there so I immediately backed off from the river.
Seriously, where am I anyway...
All I got with me is just my tattered clothes and four Graize Elixirs inside my pocket.
For now, I'll just focus on finding a proper road. Since a road usually lead to a town or city.
... wait. I sensed astral bodies. There are three of them and it looks like three of them are humans.
"Oh~, what is this~?"
I saw three men wearing bandit-like outfits few metres when I looked to the left.
I decided to not hide and maybe even ask for directions from those humans... but looking at their appearances, it seems that would be a bad idea.
On the left, there is a fat baldie holding an axe. On the right, there is a thin man holding a dagger. On the middle, there is a short man holding a whip. That short man is a little bit shorter than me and he is the first one who talked to me. The short man continues to talk.
"Hey kid. You're a noble right? What are you doing out here?"
Even if it is already tattered, my clothes seems to be rather expensive-looking. A big blunder on my part, need to do something about my appearance soon.
The thin man talks next.
"Where are your guards? Don't tell me you are here alone."
"So what if I am?"
Their attitude pissed me off so I replied on reflex.
The short man replies back with confidence despite my attitude.
"It is too dangerous to be here alone. Let me walk you back to your home."
They don't even bother to hide their wicked smiles.
"Buhehe. Cute small girl.. nice~"
The fat man just blurted out his worldly desires.
Definitely not the type of people I can ask help from. So I decide to decline their offer.
"It's none of your business. Now if you excuse me-"
"Wait."
I heard the short man's voice. I look at them and the short man prepare his whip.
"You don't seem to know how dangerous it is to be alone out here. So let us teach you the danger you are in right now. HEHEHEHE."
The other two behind also follow by preparing their weapons.

Their eyes remind me of the two beastmen that disguised themselves as guards.
And it pissed me off for the 2nd time. I clenched my right hand fist as I think that.
.....
....
...
It was a fight not worth mentioning.
Just because I kicked the short man's face using my right foot, they started using magic which guaranteed my victory.
The fat man used earth magic so I bury him to the neck using his ground magic.
The thin man used magic that control plants so I use that magic to tie his entire body using the plants near him.
And lastly, the short man used wind magic to control his whip attacks. I manipulated the wind controlling his whip and used it to bind the short man.
The fight ended in less than 1 minute.
I approach the short man while still keeping cautious with the other two.
"W- what did you just do!?"
The short man complained despite the situation he is in.
"Looks like you guys are the ones who don't know the danger you are in right now..."
I said that and raise my leg.
And step on the short man's crotch really hard.
*bak!*
"HNNNNNNNNNNGH!!!!!"
A painful cry can be heard from the short man's mouth.
I continue to apply force to my right foot while the other two just watch me in horror.
"What's wrong? Aren't you guys supposed to teach me about how it is dangerous to be inside this forest?"
I apply the force a little bit stronger.
The short man continues to groan out of pain. He's not answering my question so I asked him the next question.
"Hmm~ why are you quiet all of a sudden? Oh, is it because I don't put enough force on stepping you?"
"W-WAIT! SPARE ME!!! I'LL DO ANYTHING SO PLEASE DON'T CRUSH IT!!"
"Hoo? Anything you say?"
I said that as I finally got the reply I wanted.
.....
....
...
5 minutes later, the short man and and thin man have their bodies tied. The fat man is still buried to the neck.
I cover my tattered clothes with the the shirt and cloak that I got from their bags. Thankfully, they brought change of clothes inside the bag. Judging by it's size, this must be the short man's outfits.
Let's see what else inside the bag...
Oh, a pouch containing money.
The money system in this world consists only in form of coins. There are only 4 types of coin in the currency: Bronze coin, Silver coin, Gold coin and Platinum coin. Bronze has the lowest currency value while Platinum has the highest currency value.
10 Bronze coins is equal to 1 Silver coin.
10 Silver coins is equal to 1 Gold coin.
10 Gold coins is equal to 1 Platinum coin.
From the pouch, I can see 8 Bronze coins and 9 Silver coins. Ok, I'll take this too.
I also take 2 bottles of potions and 3 bottles of antidotes. Antidotes are used to cure poison from poisonous plants and monsters. They can counteract several kind of poisons but I think it's useless against manmade poison like what I made before.
Lastly, I take out a map from the bag. I look at it and it shows a map of Elverwad continent. In other words, I'm currently in Elverwad's continent.
To confirm this, I approach the short man.
"Oi, where are we in this map?"
"I- it's rather hard to point at this position..."
"Just use your foot to point it or something."

I bring the map closer the short man's foot.
"H-here...!"
The short man puts a lot of effort in pointing the location.
"Hoo... so which direction should I take to go to this Liasr town?"
I point my finger at a town location on a map which is the closest town to my current location while asking the question.
The short man turn his head to the left before says something.
"I- if you follow that direction. You should be able to find a road. If you go to the right side and follow the road, you should be able to reach the town by evening."
"Hoo..."
I stand up as I look at the direction he's looking at. I threaten him just in case.
"Alright, I'll go there. If you lie, I'll come back and crush that ball of yours for real."
"Eeek!? I'm not lying! It's true!"
"We'll see about that."
I don't have any skill to distinguish the truths and lies. Even if I have it, I still can't trust man.
I'll just go to that direction and decide after knowing the truth. I leave the axe and the unwanted change of clothes here. I don't have the stamina to bring all those items after all.
"W- wait! Are you gonna leave us here like this!?"
The short man shouts before I walk away. But I just continue walking while replying to him.
"Don't worry. Those magic will disappear after you guys run out of mana."
"But that is a problem! Running out of mana is a problem!!"
I ignore the short man's cries. No worth hearing at all.
.....
....
...
After around 10 minutes of walking, I actually find a road. Thank goodness I did not encounter any monster on my way here.
I go to right side and decide to follow the road while looking at the map. While walking, I revise the knowledge I have about Elverwad continent.
Elverwad continent... also known as Demi-Human continent. This continent has the highest number demi-humans living in it. Majority of the people of beastman, elf, dark elf and dwarf races lives here.
This is the ideal continent for demi-humans to live in... if you compare this continent to other continents.
I heard that there has been a discrimination on demi-humans in Brahmastra continents... not that I ever see it with my own eyes. Other continents do not have the same problem but their environments are not suitable for the majority of demi-human races to live in.
Oh. Wait. This is not the time to think about this continent... I must plan on what to do next.
I remembered learning about towns and village in Elverwad continent are divided by the Demi-Human race. For example, Elukia Village only consists of Elf residents while Drante Town only consists of dwarf residents.
However, Liasr town is one of the only 2 towns in Elverwad continent for being an interracial town. It means that the town will have many different demi-human races living in it.
The problem is... as a result, the protection of the town can be considered strict. They prohibited fighting inside the town and visitors from outside must be thoroughly checked before going in.
A little girl like me with no identification paper or cards will definitely get interrogated.
I think it's a bad idea to reveal them that I'm a noble from Graize.
I put back the map inside my bag and continue walking
My mind is preoccupied with how to enter Liasr Town without any incident. There is a limit I can take on camping outside after all. It's really tiring to sleep while being wary about monsters and animals at the same time...
"Maybe I should pretend to be an adventurer..."
I mumbled that while walking. It is a possible idea. Every adventurer has their identification card issued by the guild that they are associated with. If I pretended as an adventurer that lost my ID card...
No, wait. I'm screwed if they ask about the previous guild I am associated with.
I do have some knowledge about the guild in Boorash Town back in Brahmastra continent. But I never directly involve myself with them. I can kiss my credibility good bye if they contacted the guild in Boorash Town to confirm my identity.
I scratch my head to think better ways to enter the town.
Acting as a mercenary who lost all her products and ID cards might be a better option. After all, mercenary does not need a license to do business in this world.... yeah right, only if I am not a kid.
In the end, it come back of a fundamental problem of me having a body of a kid. Even if I want to fake my age, they usually have troublesome magical items that can detect lies...
I consider the possibility of using Overtake on those magical items. But I don't have much knowledge about the magic used by that magical items before I know which kind of magical item it is. If the magical item has some formula that I am not familiar with... ugh... let's just leave it as a last resort.
I check my inventory to see anything I can use for my plan ahead:
- 4 bottles of Graize Elixir
- 2 bottles of potion
- 3 bottles of antidote
- whip that I put in because it is heavy to carry it by hands
- money: 8 bronze coins, 9 silver coins
If anything, I can only see trouble out of this inventory. My Graize Elixirs are not well-known... they might even treat it as suspicious items during item inspection...
Right as I think about how to enter the Liasr Town. I heard a sound and look behind. A blue carriage being carried by 2 white horses but no driver suddenly appear and walk past me.
That carriage... must be from some noble or people with higher rank...
Looking at it makes me even more tired. I remember the fact that I have been walking for hours.
"Must be nice if I can get a ride too..."
Just some carefree words out of my tiredness when I look at the carriage.
However, the carriage suddenly stops in front of me up to my surprise.
Then a person suddenly come out of the carriage and walk towards me.
"Excuse me. But can I help you?"
"Huh?"
I heard a mature female voice and cannot helped but to stutter because of her sudden appearance.
I look up at the person to see what she really looks like.
A blue-haired girl with upper mid twintail style. A green clothes that resembles a feminine ceremonial clothes. A brown staff that has a red orb attached on top of it. A bronze crown on top of her head. And a face that is so beautiful that I cannot take my gaze off from it for a moment.
I cannot help but to think that this is one of those so-called fateful encounter the moment I met her.

Ars Magica
Our vision comes back into focus. Our eyes, while being able to perceive the immediate surroundings, still leave us with our minds uncomprehending towards what is actually occurring. Sure, there are definitive things that we can focus on, like the fact that we're either out upon the open sea or the open ocean, there not being much of a difference with no land in sight, as well as the fact that we appear to be upon a haphazardly constructed metal boat, whose seams are barely able to keep a hold of themselves in the crashing waves. However, that does not let us understand what exactly is causing the waves in the first place. If we were to rewind time, we'd find ourselves upon a calm sea under a peaceful sky with the only difference, being a small whirlpool that would be the precursor towards this uproar around the boat. Lightning flashes in the sky, with no clouds being near, and anyone actually manning the boat has either died towards the cause of the smashing tides in the first place, or are fighting amongst the flashes of lightning, all while trying not to become devoured, demolished, and utterly decimated by the beast roiling in the whirling waves. To better understand exactly what is happening here, there is one singular event that needs to be understood, that needs to be explained, and that is the arrival of a creature named Dave. Stepping back from current events and going towards this creature's first appearance in the world, we begin to hear the sound of water slowly dripping across rocky ground. The cavern is utterly silent except for this one constant, its cause feeding channels downwards, sloping towards cracks in the rubble along the floor from broken stalagmites and stalactites. And there, lying on top of something which had fallen over recently, judging from its cracks, is a person, the creature named Dave. His form is fast asleep, either from the impact or from an intoxication, judging from the smell upon its breath. A bright light suffuses into it for a second, giving life towards the pale skin, before it slowly dies down back to the comfortable black of the cave that it's within. Before this moment in time, Dave did not exist in the physical world. At least, not in the reality that he finds himself born into. We do not know whether or not his existence is simply a cosmic joke, or something that is being played out on purpose. All that we do know, is that one moment, the body was not in the cave, and simply formed in the next. The actual earliest time that we know Dave exists, is the interpolation of the memories of J-209, which we'll begin looking into shortly to gain context towards the coming narrative that is being written and hastily trying to keep itself written. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Warning: This story has several things which might turn its readers away. The first is that this story has shifting points of perspective. Don't worry about that previous sentence too much though, as the main character will always have a first person perspective associated with them. However, any other character from which we're viewing the story from will either be in third-person, as we are not necessarily in their shoes at the moment, or in first person, given that the narrator is an actual physical presence within the story. For the most part, chapters will be self-contained with their perspectives, so there will not be an abundance of switching perspectives within the same chapter. The most that an average reader would have to worry about is the fact that perspectives can switch between chapters. The second thing is that the main character is a bit on the 'special' side of things. He's not exactly mentally there most of the time, so there will be some times that his personality or his thoughts do not actively align with his actions. The third, and final thing of importance, is the fact that past the first couple of chapters, nothing has been planned in advance. There are arcs and plots that I want to do, want to implement, or have already been set into motion from our main character's introduction to the world, but the method that I use for my story writing and generating leads towards a bit more random chance being enabled. Basically...there's a lot of dice rolling behind the scenes. To not complicate the story further than its regular LitRPG elements, the rolls will not be publicly available. However, there will be knowledge within the author's notes on whether or not there were positive or negative critical rolls that had occurred within the chapter. You have been warned. Updates: Mondays & Fridays (Schedule permitting) Typical Chapter Length: (2,000-3,000)
