《Cutthroat》Episode 4: Chapter 42 - Big Brother Had To Step In

“Silence.”
I raised my hand as I chanted and a fluid dark glow covered my hand. The three that was cornered and one captured was then put on mute.
“Calm down.”
With a pat on her head, Nadi let go of all the mana she’ve been accumulating. In her sights were three people covered in blood, wounds and bruises..
Did we stepped on some big shot’s toes?
Their glare were a mix of anger, fear, pain and confusion. I settled my eyes on the one I thought who was most highly trained of the three of them.
The man looked like in his early forties. His build was very similar to boss, the type that would look good even as he grew old.
I stared, maybe a couple of minutes? I couldn’t help it, I was nostalgic. His glare seemed to soften into confusion and maybe a little bit of understanding?
Can’t beat experience after all.
“Sorry about that.”
I gingerly laugh. I touched a tree and called its roots to wrap onto them. Without any room to struggle, even the two who Nadi cut were wrapped firmly with roots.
“Heal.”
As I called, in my hands, faint greenish glow came out like fireflies and floated to surround them. As the glowing lights touched their wound, it shone in verdant green until all the traces of wound, blood and pain vanished with the lights.
My actions prompted a deeper confusion in their eyes. It may have been because my actions or maybe to my magic that boasts in difficulty, even improbability.
“Wha--!! Why?!”
My little sister stomped her foot as she complained loudly. With a huff and a pout, she crossed her arms in protest.
“Hey, a mission’s a mission. We don’t deviate from that. I’m angry as well but Andi’s at fault too.”

I pulled on her cheek as it swelled in a puff.
“This and that are different! They were aiming to kill me too!”
“Yeah, after you scared them.”
I retorted while I ruffled her hair.
Nadi is very overprotective, more so that Li.
“Still… hmph!”
With another huff, she left the area leaving me with the four whom I gathered in the middle.
“Well then, I apologize for all the trouble we’ve caused. Is there any chance we can forget about this?”
With a gesture, I canceled the silence magic I casted and it returned to my hand, seeping like water on dry soil. Then I smiled as gentlemanly as I could.
The first to speak was the well-built man.
“Do we even have a choice?”
Choice? Of course you do! … Ooh… right… I forgot, haha…
“Pardon my rudeness. I just didn’t want any more violence to continue so I had to restrain you.”
As I said so, I pulled back all the roots that restrained the four. The three proceeded to check their bodies for the wounds that I healed while the well-built man continued to speak.
”I am Renè Von Wittsper,a baron and a loyal knight of Aurelis. I thank you for healing my subordinates but I’m unable to comprehend the reason for all of this.”
…well, sh*t. He was the oldest of them and looked more responsible, meaning he had to be someone with control over the others. But man… a knight? A baron at that?!
“Hmmm… How should I explain this…?”
I stopped to think. I mean, there goes my plan of having any friendly relations to Aurelis. Well, we still have the haughty prince.
Anyway, do I have to explain it? Such a hassle.
“First of all, we do not wish to offend anyone from Aurelis so I wish it could end with just this. Second, this operation is confidential, I can’t divulge any information but I promise you, everything is within grounds of justice. Well, if it applies to the justice here…”

A sigh unconsciously escaped my lips.
“...Anyway, I’ll tell you who we are though.”
I gave a glance to their faces. Knights, well-trained disciplined knights. How I wish I could have manpower like these for Dragon’s Eye.
“I am a member of the Dragon’s Eye. An assassination league based on Eloheim.”
With a light bow, I introduced ourselves. I’ve heard about our reputation in Eloheim, but we rarely do missions in Aurelis. So, I’m curious as to how popular we are.
“Dragon’s Eye?!”
Ooooh! Are we popular? Are we?
“Aren’t they a cult going around saying they’ll save people to have more followers?”
The blonde said matter of factly with an innocent tone.
Don’t you mean assassins?! When did we ever peddled a religion?!
“I remember them saying that they balance the good and evil. Light or dark? Hum... Something like that.”
She continued agreeing with her own words.
So, we’re a religion now?
“Big bro…”
A silent grumble, almost a whimper called to be. From behind, I saw my brother’s face filled with remorse. The four then raised their tension and my brother immidately wrapped his fists with fire.
With a light tap of my foot, I called for the earth, then spires folded when it reached a certain height and directly pointed the tip at the Aurelian knights.
At the same time, I clawed my brother’s head.
“Enough.”
Surprised, they all lowered their weapons and let go of their magic. I clamped down harder on Andi though.
“Ow ow ow ow! Stoooop!”
“So you’re asking me to stop but you won’t?”
I pointed at his fists with my eyes and the flames on his fists immediately fizzled out as he reached for my hand.
“I did! I did already! Ow!”
As soon as I let go of his head, he crouched down rubbing it while grumbling. I couldn’t help but heave a sigh seeing as he was fine.
“Well then, nice meeting you, umm… Lord Wittsper? Is that right? I hope we meet again in better circumstances.”
I bowed and dragged Andi while Nadi clung to my other arm.
“Wait!”
As soon as he called, glares from the two felt like it could bore a hole through them, but he brushed it aside and spoke.
“...are you our enemy?”
Hmmm… enemy? I see, with what happened we could probably destroy a platoon or two. If these are their typical knights then, as long as all four of us are together, we can even destroy a fort.
“Well, remember what she said?”
I looked at the blonde who called us a cult.
“We are a threat to both good and evil. We are the balance, because without the other, we humans cannot survive.”
We turned to leave. We ran through the forest as fast as our magic enhanced legs could take us.
Wow, I sounded so cool!
I probably had a weird grin on my face because the two were looking at me disgustingly.
“Edge lord much?”
“Yeah big bro, you’re more gross than my chuuni moments. I can’t believe that you’d think you cool with just saying that!”
Shock.
I was left disappointed and mouth agape.
I think my siblings are the worst evil there is...

A Fate Set in Stone (On Hold)
After dying and making his way into the afterlife, our protagonist happens to have a stroke of good luck. With the help of the substitute god of death, he's given a second shot at life in a world run by gods who probably played too many video games as kids. Monsters, magic, dungeons, bandits, and all that good stuff is there, except it turns out to be much different than Jed initially expected.(I picked some generic tags since this is my first story and I am not 100% sure where it is going to go. Mature warning is only there for some less-than-polite language.)

Mayhem of Magic
The world revolves around magic. The kingdom of Raekoft lives because of it. Magic is everywhere and flows through everyone and everything, seemingly with a mind of its own. Ritz Dravus is a 17-year-old teen with a rare potential in battle magic. After years of working and saving up money, he can finally attend the best magical academy in Raekoft, Liken Academy. If only he could enjoy his time there. Liken Academy is a place taken over by the upper class. A place where power rules supreme. Ritz’s humble beginnings will struggle in a place where social standing and power defines a person. Rittz will have to go through the usual school drama of making friends, keeping up with classes, dealing with crushes, fighting against bullies, growing insanity, magic manipulation, power scaling and the ever-looming threat of a neighbouring kingdom hungry for war. If magic is the first rule in this world, then mayhem would be the second. Author Note: This is a rewrite of Magic and Mayhem. I've taken a good look at where I would like to take the series and came to the conclusion that I would like to rewrite the story with a more set structure in mind. This is a full rewrite with elements like the story, style and characters changing slightly or completely. Please do give me a chance to provide all of you with a better story for all of you to enjoy. Thank you :)
