《The God Hunter》Chapter 19 - Two Months

Chapter 19: Two Months
Blacky spent the night alone on the cliff. He read through the thousand assault spear technique first.
The technique was fairly basic. It explained over a thousand ways to use the spear offensively, and defensively.
Other than that it had two high level techniques. Blacky however wasn’t interested in the spear techniques. He spent a long time reading through the Infinite Glide technique.
Blacky found the logic behind the technique surprising.
The foot had small and weak muscles. However as one’s body became stronger, so did these muscles.
According to the technique one could move without lifting their feet. They would instead slide over the floor. The technique was supposedly inspired from the movements of a snake. If one could perfect this technique, they could glide through the air. This wasn’t true flight, but it was still impressive.
When Blacky attempted to use the technique he failed. He stood on his feet as if he was glued to the floor.
Blacky didn’t give up. He re-read the book five times, over the course of three days.
Raven and Old Man Black returned during the afternoon that day.
They led Blacky down the mountain. After a short walk they arrived at a pit. Blacky roughly estimated the pit was three meters wide, and eighteen meters long. The pit was filled with some type of sand which Blacky couldn’t recognize.
“This pit is filled with crystal sand, it’s specially made for the infinite glide technique. Without it you can’t train the technique.” Raven explained to Blacky.
Blacky coughed lightly. Couldn’t Raven say this sooner?
“Try entering it.” Raven said.
Blacky nodded he took a step inside the pit, he immediately slipped onto his butt.
“Bahahaha!” Old Man Black laughed by the side.
Raven explained what happened. “You can’t walk on this sand. You may only slide through it. If you try to walk, you will simply lose your balance and fall.”
Blacky blankly looked at Old Man Black and Raven. These two weren’t good teachers at all..
Old Man Black continued to chuckle. “Hehehe. For the next two months you will train in this pit. You can only take breaks to eat and sleep.”
…
Two months passed and Blacky’s improved greatly. He was around 180cm tall, much taller than those his age. His hair also was 2cm longer. Only his skinny physique didn’t change.
This didn’t mean his physical strength was weak. In this time he consumed two perfect spiritual pills. Ever since he opened his spiritual world, he found it much simpler to train. Using the pills he easily entered the sixth level spiritual warrior stage.
Other than that he occasionally trained the thousand assault spear technique.
Under the guidance of Raven and Old Man Black, Blacky made the most progress in the infinite glide technique.
Blacky was currently holding on to a black spear. Old Man Black stood five meters away from him with a sword in his hand.

Blacky smiled slightly as he looked at Old Man Black. Currently he was only a single level under Old Man Black.
Old Man Black snorted. “Hmph, don’t get cocky with me Blacky. Don’t forget that our level difference isn’t a simple level.”
Blacky chuckled as he shrugged. “It’s just a spar, why are you so tense?”
Old Man Black glanced at Raven angrily. Raven suggested that they have a spar so Blacky can gain some combat experience. Old Man Black tried to decline, unfortunately Blacky and Raven continued to insist.
In these two months, Blacky’s progress terrified him. He couldn’t help fearing that he might lose to a fifteen year old brat. Even if it was just a spar.
Raven stood by the side watching on silently.
Old Man Black angrily charged at Blacky. He appeared in front of Blacky and swung down his sword.
“The elderly should take the first move!”
Blacky continued to smile. He spent one month sliding across the crystal sand. After that, Old Man Black began to poke him with sticks. It took Blacky a long time to manage to dodge his attacks.
Blacky simply used the infinite glide technique to dodge Old Man Black’s strike.
“Too slow.” Blacky taunted with a smile.
Old Man Black snorted. “Hmph! Let’s see if you can dodge me if I use my movement technique!”
Old Man Black bent his knees. He then shot out towards Blacky. He held his sword with a single hand, swiping it down towards Blacky.
Blacky’s expression turned serious. He furiously slid across the grass. Old Man Black didn’t care if Blacky dodged his strikes. He chased Blacky swinging his sword like a madman.
Raven glanced at Blacky’s feet. Every time Blacky moved towards a direction, a small trail of dust was left behind. This proved that Blacky’s feet were sliding on the floor.
Raven murmured by the side. “Early stages of the infinite glide technique. Once he’s at the middle stage he will not leave behind a speck of dust. However the requirement is to be an elemental warrior at least.”
Blacky stared into Old Man Black’s eyes. He perfectly dodged every strike that Old Man Black took.
Old Man Black wasn’t surprised. “Haha, you know, you can’t win a fight by just dodging!”
Blacky eyes lit up slightly. Naturally he understood that.
Blacky began to spin the spear in his hand with two hands. Old Man Black’s sword swung down!
“Eh?!”
Old Man Black felt as if his sword hit a piece of rubber. He fell back two steps, shock emerging on his face.
Raven’s spoke with surprise. “A deflection technique?”
This was one of the two techniques from the thousand assault technique. Raven never expected Blacky to know how to use it.
Blacky revealed a grin as he looked at Old Man Black’s shocked face.
Old Man Black held his sword with two hands, his expression turning serious. “Let’s see if you can take on a full powered strike then!”

Old Man Black swinged down his sword. The wind howled as the sword slashed through the air.
Blacky used the infinite glide technique once again. This time he didn’t use it to dodge. His right leg slid back, while his left leg slid forward.
“Hah!” Blacky shouted out, he held the spear with both hands, striking towards the sword which was coming from above.
The black spear suddenly seemed to distort. It appeared to have split into two, both spears shot towards the sword!
*Clang*
Old Man Black suddenly felt his body rise up. He flew backwards five meters landing on his butt!
Blacky used the infinite glide technique, his spear shot out once again.
Old Man Black dumbly looked up at Blacky who was pointing the spear at his neck.
“I won.” Blacky said with a smile.
Raven’s was also dumbfounded. “You mastered the thousand assault technique?!”
Blacky laughed, he put the spear in his hand into his spatial ring. “Yes, with my strength I can’t use it.. However using speed I can make up for strength.”
Old Man Black rose up to his feet, wiping the dirt off his rear. “Hmph! You caught me off guard. I also wasn’t using my full strength!
Blacky shrugged in reply. A silver spear appeared in his hands. “Fine, let’s go for round two.”
The silver spear had strange symbols carved on it. The spear weighed over thirty kilos. This was the elemental grade weapon, Stone Elements Edge.
Raven gave the spear to Blacky awhile back.
“You can use this spear?” Raven asked hesitantly.
Blacky nodded. “In the past two months, I entered my spiritual world to meditate instead of sleeping. I felt the results were the same. When I ate the perfect spiritual pill I noticed a white particle appear in my spiritual world. As of now there is about ten times more of that amount..”
As Blacky spoke the spear in his hand began to glow in yellow light.
Blacky turned to smile at Old Man Black.
Old Man Black replied shamelessly. “This old man is already on the verge of dying from old age, go spar someone your own age..”
Blacky shrugged with a slight smile. The stones elements edge was put back inside his spatial ring.
Raven sighed by the side. “Blacky your talent is too monstrous. I’m afraid we’re not qualified to be your teachers.”
“Sir Raven don’t say that. Without your help I couldn’t have learned these techniques. I may not even be alive at this moment.” Blacky didn’t accept Raven’s comment.
Old Man Black had a gentle smile on his face. However this smile looked hideous. “Blacky, I’m afraid what Raven is saying is true. Neither one of us can raise you to become a mortal king. We might even hold you back.”
Blacky couldn’t help feeling slightly sad. Although Old Man Black and Raven weren’t great teachers, they still tried their best.
Raven chuckled slightly. “Haha, tomorrow White Devil is coming to Tifili Village to meet us. A mighty Mortal King, he’s not only the master of the bounty hunter association. He’s also a elder of the demonic cult crew. At first I thought you had a fifty percent chance to become his disciple. At this point I’m ninety nine percent sure he’ll want you as a disciple. You should forget about us.”
Old Man Black snorted. “What forget about us?! Blacky feel free to forget about Raven. However don’t forget about me. In the future don’t call me teacher. Call me foster father instead!”
Blacky awkwardly stared at Old Man Black.
Old Man Black snorted once again. “What are you looking at me like that for? I raised you for fifteen years! You refuse to acknowledge me??”
Blacky spoke with a low voice. “Foster father..”
Old Man Black chuckled strangely. “Say it louder.”
Blacky rolled his eyes then shouted out. “Foster father!”
In reality Blacky really did consider Old Man Black to be his relative. However Old Man Black had a strange temperament. He told Blacky to call him teacher instead.
Old Man Black’s tone became warm. “Good, good. I spent my elemental stones getting you a present. I’m sure you’ll like it.”
A black scarf appeared in Old Man Black’s hand. “This scarf is made out of the skin of a demonic beast. It’s incredibly durable. It could even be used defensively.”
Blacky happily took the scarf and placed it around his neck, even covering his mouth. Even though the weather was not cold, he truly loved wearing scarfs.
Many people would recognize him in Tifili Village as the young thief if they were to see him.
Raven chuckled slightly by the side, he held out a black glove. “I’ve also got something. The quality of this glove is roughly the same as that scarf. You can use it to hide your spatial ring.”
Blacky didn’t hesitate, he took the glove and wore it on his right hand. He really loved the color black.
Raven chuckled seeing Blacky’s happiness. “Blacky rest up well. Tomorrow the tournament will begin. You must show off all your skills. Aim for that number one spot. You’ll also have a true master, one who can guide you to becoming a mortal king.. Who knows maybe you’ll even become a celestial!”
Blacky nodded obediently.
Old Man Black chuckled by the side. “How great is that? Tomorrow is the day we can be official members of the demonic cult crew.” Old Man Black patted Raven’s shoulder. “No one will dare mess with us again!”

March 16, 2021 - Hiatus note: I will come back to this story! I'm really struggling with it, though. It's been a number of years and I kind of forgot what the original outline was. I still remember the main path, but not any of the details, because I stupidly didn't write an outline. Progress is being made. I'd like a very decent sized buffer before I start posting again. Don't want to get hopes up only to immediately disappoint! ----- Amy Barnes, an aspiring chemical researcher, finds herself dying from cancer. One of her most desperate prayers is answered in a way that she'd never dreamed possible, and she finds herself living a new life as a dungeon. Warning: Violence, morbidity Cover: Taken from here, courtesy of www.pexels.com by photographer @tookapic. Author's Note: I've read some dungeon core stories on here, and they've tickled my fancy. I've thought up a whole story, start to finish, and thought it'd be a blast to put it into words. Other than the violent and morbid aspects, this story is suitable for children. Aside from the vocabulary, that is. I will avoid the temptation to have any cursing, sexuality, or gore. Excessive gore, I suppose - it is a dungeon story, after all. I’ll do a little research from time to time, but this story will not have a great deal of rigor. I’ve made Amy’s knowledge comparable to my own for that reason. There’s a few things she knows more about than I do, and a few things that she knows less about. Unlike me, she doesn’t have access to Google - it’s a non issue for her to be more knowledgeable than me, on occasion :P This story does not use the same magic system that I’ve used in either Sorcery in Boston or A Summoner’s Confession. This one is mostly intention based, and designed to be easier access for people who are more used to the idea of, “It’s magic, therefore it works” kind of thinking. Do note that Amy is, in most senses of the term, overpowered. This goes along with the usual dungeon core stories. She’s not more powerful than other dungeons per se, but she does have knowledge and intelligence that puts them to shame. I thought about doing this in a LitRPG style, but systems take balance, and I wanted this to be pure fun to write. This story was inspired from a few sources. Despite the title, it wasn’t really inspired by Of Mice and Men, though some of the themes match. Rather, I’ve taken inspiration from a few dungeon core novels on Royal Road Legends for the main idea. Many conventions of dungeon core stories have been perverted from the genre, however. I’ve taken my usual science-loving self to town to play around with the powers, and I can only hope you have half as much fun reading this as I have had writing it.

8 220Aethernum—Cradle of Yore
Diary Number 999, year I-don't-care, location home. Parenting. Of all I've found clear answers except for this most mundane topic. And not for the lack of trying. My library, so humongous my good friends told me one after the other there is no book it doesn't contain helped little. There are crumbling tomes of ancient magic, vocabularies depicting the evolution of the magical language itself, grimoires and holy bibles of cults long past, rows and rows filled with scrolls bearing the efforts of my magical research, contracts, diaries, letters and more. But parenting? There was none. Yet a struggle nearly every member of the Races is not foreign to. I...must have lived under a rock. Across aeons no less. What a humbling revelation.
8 136Mage Vein

In their inevitable loss versus the cosmic being, they return to the mortal realm with the help of their Deities. Licking their wounds in the shadows of a powerless realm, they cultivate a new class of mages to combat what lurks in the voids of space.
