《Heavenly Eclipse》Chapter 26 - Stormwing Condor

Mu Chen walked over to Zhao Feng and noticed the broken pieces of Zhao Feng’s spear lying at the side, pieces of it randomly scattered around on the ground.
“Your spear...”
“It's alright.” Zhao Feng shook his head with a despondent look. He knew that to repair a weapon and restore it to its original state was sometimes harder and more expensive than crafting one. It wasn’t worth it.
“That spear has sentimental value to you doesn’t it?” Mu Chen asked with a knowing look in his eyes.
“You’re right. It was a gift from my grandfather for my twelfth birthday. It's been by my side for the past 4 years.”
Mu Chen walked over and began gathering up the shattered pieces of the weapon. He placed the pieces into a piece of cloth and wrapped them up.
“Big brother, what are you doing?” Zhao Feng turned his head to the side and saw what he was doing.
“I can reforge it. Best not to waste good materials.” Zhao Feng’s spear was a peak grade Mortal weapon, it could be considered quite valuable based on the materials used to craft it. The makeshift cloth bag disappeared as Mu Chen stored it into his new spatial ring.
“Big brother, you also know how to forge weapons?”
“I know a thing or two. It won’t be too difficult to reforge it once I obtain some decent materials and some forging tools.” Mu Chen replied. He walked over to Zhao Feng, grabbed him by the arms and started dragging him toward the cavern.
“Uh…where are you bringing me to?” Zhao Feng asked with a curious expression as he was being dragged along.
“Back to the cavern. I’ll treat your injuries first.”
The moment they got inside the cavern, Mu Chen sealed the exits with rubble to prevent them from being disturbed. He then sat Zhao Feng up with his back facing him and removed his robes to expose his muscular upper body. Mu Chen’s eyes glowed as he looked over the damage to Zhao Feng’s body.
Mu Chen’s expression turned slightly serious as he inspected Zhao Feng’s meridians and dantian. The damage was pretty bad as Zhao Feng had overexerted his strength, causing some of his meridians to fracture. His spiritual qi was also nearly dried up as his nine spirit springs barely had any spiritual qi left in them. Moreover, there were also several external wounds on his body. Thankfully, it was still reversible.

He walked over and got Zhao Feng’s remaining half of Dragon Blood Fruit, then stuffed it into Zhao Feng’s mouth and got him to swallow it. The moment the fruit entered Zhao Feng’s stomach, a powerful vital energy instantly surged out from the fruit like a rushing river, causing Zhao Feng to wince in pain, but Mu Chen was prepared. Using his supreme spiritual qi, he carefully wrapped up and guided the streams of vital energy into the injured parts of Zhao Feng’s body. The damage to Zhao Feng’s internal organs, meridians as well as his external wounds, slowly began to heal.
After several hours, Zhao Feng’s bodily injuries had been 90% healed, but the vital energy from Dragon Blood Fruit had also been completely used up. His meridians had also been mostly repaired, but there were a few larger fractures that he temporarily could not do anything about. The only way was to find some more high level medicine to treat him, medicines that possessed strong healing properties.
As for his spiritual qi, it would recover over time. Mu Chen had already transferred some of his supreme spiritual qi to Zhao Feng. Over time, it would likely improve the quality of his qi.
Mu Chen let out a deep breath as he stood up and walked toward the entrance to the cavern and started to move the rubble aside.
“Big brother, where are you going?” Zhao Feng, who was lying down on the ground, began to sit up.
“Out.”
“I’m feeling much better. I can go with you!”
“No, you stay here and rest. I have something I need to do. I will come back for you in a few days.” Mu Chen said in a tone that warranted no objection.
“Alright…” Zhao Feng sighed in disappointment as he lay back down.
Mu Chen left the cavern and disappeared into the secluded valley. He then made a u-turn and backtracked, returning back to the cliff where they had found the Dragon Blood Fruit. He once again scaled the cliff face and climbed back up to the top, where the Stormwing Condor’s nest was located.
Why was he doing this? The answer was obvious. It was because it was much too tiresome to walk back to Skywind City, so Mu Chen wanted a mount. What better mount was there besides a Stormwing Condor? It’s speed was swift and it could fly. Moreover, its strength was also at the Sea Forming realm level. Essentially, he would be obtaining another strong follower if he managed to subdue it.

This particular Stormwing Condor was fairly powerful. Mu Chen estimated its strength to be around the 3rd level of the Sea Forming realm. Although it was not going to be an easy fight, Mu Chen believed he could handle it.
His cultivation was currently at the peak 9th level Mortal realm. The bloodline from the stone tablet had increased his physical prowess immensely, at the same time it had also boosted his cultivation, allowing him to break through from the 8th to the peak of the 9th level. Theoretically, if he could so easily deal with the beast form Feng Yinhai, then he should have no issues handling a 4th level Sea Forming realm demon beast.
Based on his memories, Mu Chen managed to relocate the Stormwing Condor’s nest. The egg he had seen previously had already hatched, and the eggshells were littered around the nest. Within the nest sat an ugly featherless monstrosity that was just a little shorter than Mu Chen. It was a baby demonic bird, apparently it had just been born not too long ago. It stared at Mu Chen with large curious eyes and attempted to peck at him. Mu Chen’s feet moved as he easily dodged the hatchling, which triggered it to start chirping non stop. Slightly annoyed, Mu Chen glared at it and released some pressure, causing the baby bird to instantly run to the opposite corner of the nest. It lay down and shivered as it stared warily at Mu Chen.
Unfortunately, the owner of the nest was nowhere to be seen. Mu Chen reckoned that the demon bird must be out hunting for food for its newborn child. Sighing, he sat down and waited. Several hours later, a loud screech echoed through the skies. The Stormwing Condor had finally returned.
“Finally, it's back.” Mu Chen opened his eyes and looked up at the sky. A massive bird demon beast flew overhead. It resembled a hawk, but this one had a twenty meter wingspan. In its talons it carried the carcass of a large python that was around ten meters long. Mu Chen identified it as a Viridian Python, a peak Mortal realm demon beast. It was apparent that this was its lunch.
The moment the Stormwing Condor spotted the intruder inside its nest, it was furious. It instantly dropped the Viridian Python carcass and swooped down toward Mu Chen at lightning speed, its vicious talons reaching out toward him, ready to rip him to shreds.
Mu Chen was long ready. Just as the Stormwing Condor was about to reach him, Mu Chen extended his hand forward and grasped at the air.
“Come! Dragon Seizing Hand!”
A massive hand formed from spiritual qi appeared in front of Mu Chen, who made a downward slamming motion. The huge qi hand mirrored his actions and slapped the bird down to the ground, causing the ground to tremble and cracks to form below the beast. The hand then forcefully pressed the demon bird down to the ground, effectively suppressing it and preventing it from moving a muscle.
“Beast, yield!” Mu Chen shouted, his voice like a clap of thunder as it entered the Stormwing Condor’s ears. At that moment, Mu Chen seemed to have transformed into a supreme ruler as he looked down in disdain at the captive Stormwing Condor like a mighty dragon looking down at a worm.
Fear could be seen in the condor’s eyes as it stared up at Mu Chen. It could sense an oppressive power from this human that came from deep within the most primal recesses of its soul, fear that originated from when it encountered a being with a vastly superior bloodline. The Stormwing Condor immediately stopped resisting and lay still, indicating that it submitted.
“Good.” Mu Chen retracted his hand, causing the massive qi hand to dissipate and completely withdrew his aura until he seemed just like a regular person. His face was slightly pale from overexertion, but was much better than the last time as his physical body was now much stronger than before.
He leapt onto the Stormwing Condor’s back and was about to instruct it to take off, but the bird screeched as it gestured toward the hatching, who was still cowering in fear.
“Fine, we’ll take it along.” Mu Chen nodded. Perhaps they could raise it into another mount, or just turn it into a roast bird and have it for dinner.
The Stormwing Condor grabbed the hatchling gently with its talons and then with a flap of its massive wings and a piercing cry, they soared up to the sky, flying back to the nearby secluded valley where Zhao Feng was resting.

8 115Shadows in the Dawn Mist
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] - Winner November 2020 When a young woman is lured back to her homeland for the opportunity of a life time, she must face old fears. But never would she think that facing up to her past would change everything. Is History written by the victors, or by someone or something else...? *** I started writing this a few years ago and eventually fell out of love with it. I never finished it and my newer books are being written in different writing style, and genre with a more planned process. I decided to revisit it for the writathon and found that it wasn't as hopeless as I'd come to think. Hopefully, I've improved as a writer since them so the consistency may vary. Its been good to revisit and analyse my writing which I feel used to have some clunky and obvious dialogue which I'm trying to fix. This will always be my first novel and I hope, with a little exposure, I may come to like it again. Thanks for reading!

8 186Daily life of a cultivation judge
Tired of those cultivators who think it is righteous to eliminate a sect or clan root and stem all in the name of revenge and avoiding future troubles, fights over treasures that end up destroying cities with no consequence whatsoever to the culprit, these psychos whose aim for the peak always involves a trail of carnage and bloodshed in its wake for some reason. Then look no further than the daily life of a cultivation judge. Yang Qing, is a young genius cultivator from a low-tier family whose only safe choice to get resources and hopefully lead an easy life led him to the courts of the Cultivation Order Society. Author’s disclaimer: Hey there this is my first novel so any criticism will be well taken though beware I’m a million-year-old monster who has cultivated the way of the sword to the peak. The daily life of a cultivation judge will be true to its name so it will be heavily on the slice of life lane with a bit of action here and there.Meaning we will see the life of Yang Qing when he clocks in and out. Hopefully, it will be one of those novels you read if you need to relax or are in a slacker mood like one of those otakus who listen to the noises of cicadas in the summer famously used in most animes. And it is in the slacker spirit that chapter release will be on Wednesday,Thursday and Friday. Sank yuuu Cover art by Conny Schneider on Unsplash
