《Heavenly Eclipse》Chapter 14 - Mu Chen’s Death

Time passed and night soon fell. The sky was clear without a single cloud in the sky. A full moon hung in the sky, dimly illuminating the Mu Clan residence. It was 20 minutes to midnight. The door to Mu Heng's bedroom opened and he stepped out. Mu Lanyue could be seen lying asleep on the bed behind him. Pulling up his robes, Mu Heng strode over to the side room where the unconscious Mu Chen was placed earlier.
After changing into a set of black clothes he had prepared in advance, he hoisted a large, human sized sack over his shoulder and left his courtyard, heading down the planned path. At this time, the entire place was deserted, not a single soul could be seen. Mu Heng hastily made his way towards the southern entrance with the sack over his shoulder.
Mu Heng hid nearby and waited patiently. Just as he had planned, there was a short window of time where there were totally no guards present at the gate. Seizing the opportunity, he stealthily exited the Mu residence and disappeared into the night, right before the next shift of guards approached.
Pulling a cloak around his body and obscuring his face with a hood, he swiftly made his way out of the city. His clothes were inconspicuous as there were also many others dressed just like himself.
He went straight toward Devil’s Ravine, which was located a few hours away if one moved at top speed. It was relatively close to Skywind City. Using his spiritual qi to increase his speed, Mu Heng moved at a rapid pace. He had planned to arrive at Devil’s Ravine, finish what he needed to do and then return to the Mu Clan before dawn to avoid suspicion.
Pushing his speed to the maximum, Mu Heng soon arrived at the top of the ravine. Sweat trickled down his forehead as he panted heavily.
Even for a cultivator, moving long distances at high speeds without rest was extremely taxing. More than half of Mu Heng's spiritual qi was used up.

He threw the sack down and untied it. Inside lay the unconscious Mu Chen.
"Today, I will finally be rid of you." He whispered under his breath.
He dragged Mu Chen toward the edge of the ravine, paused for a few moments, then kicked Mu Chen over the edge. He looked down just after, but all he saw was a dark abyss that seemed to have no end.
"There's no way he can survive that fall. He's only a fifth level Mortal realm cultivator after all."
Breathing a sigh of relief, Mu Heng turned and left, disappearing into the darkness.
A few minutes after he had left, a hand came up and grabbed onto the edge of the cliff. Mu Chen pulled himself over the edge and leapt up onto the top of the ravine.
"That took much longer than expected." He grumbled while dusting off his hands.
Of course, Mu Chen did not actually get knocked out by the sleeping drug Mu Heng had added to the wine. One sniff and he already knew that the wine was laced with sedative. He had used his supreme spiritual qi to surround the drugged wine and isolated it, then spat it out later on. How could a Devil Emperor who was thousands of years old fall for such a low level trick? If he really fell for it then he might as well go and commit suicide right now.
Also, he was actually awake the whole time when Mu Heng was having his fun in the bedroom. Yes, he had to hear the moaning go on for hours while pretending he was unconscious.
Mu Chen was slightly impressed by Mu Heng's scheming capabilities. The man had gone and drugged the entire jug of wine, but he had taken a medicine beforehand to counteract the effects so he himself wasn't affected. However, he had made one fatal mistake.
He should have killed Mu Chen with his own hands instead of throwing him off a cliff. You should always ensure that your foe was really dead, or else if the guy somehow survived, you would have a venomous snake that was ready to strike, watching you from the dark without you knowing. Of course, Mu Chen wouldn't just lie there and let Mu Heng kill him, but it was still a mistake nonetheless. It couldn’t be helped, Mu Heng was just a sixteen year old kid after all. He lacked experience.

"Now, I can finally roam around freely." Mu Chen grinned happily as he stretched his back, which was a little sore from lying down all day.
Despite that, he was glad that he did not lie down there for half a day for nothing. Now that Mu Heng thought he was dead, he could move unhindered and go wherever he wanted during this time. However, he planned to return before the Annual Clan Meeting to ensure Mu Lin was safe.
“I’ll get Zhao Feng to meet me out here. It’s nice to have someone help me kill spirit beasts.”
He called Zhao Feng out because did not want to go back to Skywind City. Once his father realized he had disappeared, he would comb the entire city for him. If he went back, Mu Heng would eventually find out he still lived. For now, he had to stay away from there. Once the time was right, he would return.
Mu Chen retrieved one of the talismans Zhao Feng had given him earlier. He injected some of his spiritual qi into it, causing the inscriptions to start glowing. After several seconds, a voice came out of the talisman.
“Big brother, you finally called!” Zhao Feng sounded excited.
“Zhao Feng, where are you now?” Mu Chen asked.
“I’m still in Skywind City.”
“Alright, come over to Devil’s Ravine, near the city. I’ll meet you there. Also, bring some clothes and supplies as well.”
“Right away!” Rustling sounds could be heard and then the sound cut off.
Zhao Feng took around two hours to arrive. The moment Mu Chen saw him, he could tell that the spear wielding youth had become even stronger than before. Not in terms of spiritual qi cultivation, but body refinement. His entire body was coursing with vitality and every fiber of muscle seemed to hold great strength within.
He had arrived in record time and not even broken a sweat, unlike Mu Heng. If Mu Chen were to fight Zhao Feng now purely by using his cultivation, he would likely have some trouble facing him.
“Zhao Feng, you’ve been training hard the past few weeks haven't you?” Mu Chen smiled as he folded his arms across his chest.
“Big brother truly is highly skilled, able to tell from a single glance.”
“The [Overlord Spear Art] and [Sun Tyrant Scripture] you gave me are truly wondrous and profound. Even after a few weeks, I am unable to fully comprehend the complexity of these two techniques.” Zhao Feng sighed in disappointment.
“Of course not, they are saint ranked techniques, not some garbage you can just pick up at the roadside.” Mu Chen chuckled.
“Right…” Zhao Feng rubbed his head sheepishly. This was his first time seeing saint ranked techniques after all.
“Anyway, let’s head back to Thousand Beast Forest. This time, we can go deeper in.”
The pair set off after Mu Chen changed his clothes, heading back to the place where they had first met.
The reason why Mu Chen wanted to return to Thousand Beast Forest was primarily because of the stone tablet. He wanted to finish lighting up the second section. Mu Chen had a feeling that he would obtain another otherworldly benefit from it. For the first time in a long time, he was excited for the future.

Ph. D. In Sorcery
Follow Anastasia, the unlucky physicist turned wizard, as her reality gets turned upside down and she is plunged into a world of gods, magic, swords, and adventure. Short and sweet description, anything more would be a spoiler and I detest those. Now, what you can expect from reading: This is my first time writing, or better said allowing someone else to read that mess so don’t raise your expectations too much. Still, I will try to keep the story flowing, while also devoting as much time as I can to editing. In my opinion, the story is written at a faster pace than normal with time skips here and there. I will do my best to not allow the faster pace to ruin the story by using those time skips to raise the skill of the main character. I am mainly looking for feedback while I test myself in new and unexplored waters. I did put a lot of thought into worldbuilding and the magic system, it is something that has been mulling inside my head for years before I sat down to write anything down. First and foremost I am an engineer and not a writer. I will try to do my utmost to make the world logical and consistent, but sometimes I might not express that in a way that’s clearly understood. I have a rough outline with several possible endings, but the story will change and evolve as I do. But in case I have to stop for whatever reason, the story will get an ending. It will be done even if I have to send coded messages from a bunker. I am a big fan of the Dresden Files so you can be certain that everything mentioned will in most cases be used, with a few red herrings sprinkled in the mix. But that also means I will enjoy putting the main character through the meat grinder while I eat popcorn and laugh from my evil lair. Physics, and to be more precise electromagnetism, quantum field theory, general and special relativity are very interesting topics for me that I research in my spare time. That means that the premise of the story will be using that research to bring logic to magic. Stupid I know, magic is magic, but to me, there is no reason why there shouldn’t be a concrete set of rules there. But it is still magic and that allows me to play with some things that shouldn’t normally be possible. I will focus on evolving the main character and having her react as anyone normal would, from my perspective. There will be scenes of battle, gore, and sexy times, but I will not go into too many details, counting on your imagination to fill the gaps. There will be plenty of combat, even battles ranging from a few dozen, a hundred, and thousands of participants. I could go on but there isn’t much to say that would convince anyone to read, either you thought the title was cool or you liked the poster. Or not, but after several days in photoshop, that’s the best I could do. And the title was originally Sorceress with a Ph.D. The new one makes a little less sense but I like the ring of it more for some reason. I just hope someone enjoys what I write as much as I do. In the end that is the reason, I am doing this, because I enjoy putting my thoughts on paper and seeing the outcome. Credit for the art: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/e0o8nw
