Consume?
I didn't get the chance to ask.
Information about the Arda was flowing to me, it was born from an egg inside the hole of a giant root, first a larva the size of a human child. It faced many dangers when trying to survive, eating roots, flowers, fruits and smaller insects, shedding and growing exponentially. Then it chose a safe place to start changing, forming a casing around itself made mostly of its own feces, and slowly entering a deep slumber, a slumber that with luck, she would wake up from. And she did, in its last form, but not yet fully grown, using her new limbs to tear the cocoon and experience the world through a new body, a stronger one.
I could feel that at the same rate I was learning about her, she was learning about me. Secrets that I thought would never be discovered, feelings I never imagined being shared. It surprised me even more to know her feelings, alone, scared, desiring to be stronger. She was still young and inexperienced, it had yet to grow bigger and stronger.
The flow of information was slowing down as it approached the current events. The strange, scary creature looking my way. My way? Her way...
I'm sorry.
I didn't know.
No, yes. You're right, even if I knew, it had to be done for me to get stronger.
I don't regret, but I truly am sorry.
You can try, but I feel like you're too weak now to succeed. You'll just die.
It doesn't have to be the end for you, I think. I won't let you have my body, but maybe... maybe I can give you another one.
I know what I did, and you know you would have done the same, we both have the same reason. To get stronger.

...The only promise I can make is that I'll try. I just need you to trust me.
The Ardar's body began to crumble, turning to ashes, all it remained was a ball of light on my hand. I wasn't actually holding It, there wasn't any real shape or weight to it, not that I could feel. It was just light, like it was hovering in my palm, pleasantly warm.
I carefully moved my hand closer to the axe, I stopped to look at Zanir, and he nodded.
As I seized the axe, the light entered it, luminous streaks spread from the place where I held, soon covering the whole weapon. I almost fell from the sudden pull I felt, but Zanir caught me, I could feel something flowing out of my hand. The light was getting stronger at the pace I was getting weaker, I couldn't stand without Zanir's help and my vision was going blurry, though oddly enough, holding the axe was easy.
The glow got a lot stronger before it started to fade, revealing a different weapon from the one I was initially holding.
The handle was now covered in short white fur, the spike at the back of the head was of a silver color and bent slightly down, like a claw, and the smaller spike at the end of the handle was black. The blade of the axe looked new, sharper.
I could feel her inside it.
Awesome.
I didn't know if she could understand what I said, but she didn't answer, not with words, if I had to explain I'd say it was communicating through intent. She probably couldn't answer how much was two plus two, even if she knew, but she could tell me if something made her angry or happy, like my previous comment did.

I referred to it as she, but I wasn't sure it was still female, or had a gender at all, it was just a feeling.
I could still feel something being taken through my grip on her, significantly less, but weakening me nonetheless.
"Name it," said Zanir.
Name?
"Isn't it Arda?"
"No. All white and strong are arda."
I'm not really that great at naming, I thought, looking at her.
What do you think of...
"Moon."
Yeah. I like it too.

The False Paladin
Divine Paladins, a title given to those who were blessed with the Lord's Favor, are the pillars of the kingdom of Calorin. However, a kingdom cannot simply be built from ideals of honor and duty. Sir Roel, the 58th Divine Paladin, knows that he's no hero. His sword is fake, his actual powers are middling, and his thoughts grow more cynical with every passing day. Upon receiving his next task, an order to assassinate a member of royalty, he wonders if the only thing he can do is bow his head and obey. Set in a medieval-era world in which brute strength is often subordinate to the schemes and machinations of the ruling class, this is a low fantasy story about a hero who struggles not only against monsters but also the idea that he's supposed to be the one fighting them. This fiction updates once to twice a week and each chapter is a minimum of 1000 words.
