《The one above all》Chapter 5- The War against the Kilts (Arc 1)

Somewhere in the Kiltian Empire-
The night was breezy and dark. The moon hidden behind a large cluster of clouds that seems almost irregular. The high winds so loud you wouldn't be able to hear someone walk up to you. A large Desert stretching for miles as if it would never end. Walking across this desert during this breezy night were 4 men in sandy-colored cloaks. Walking in a line, these 4 men continued to walk as if they had a duty to fulfill. The man in the front, who was also the biggest, raised his hand indicating a stopping motion. He looked off into the distance filled with nothing but sand and rocks.
" Hmmm....we'll set up camp here. Alen set up the tents. Marc make sure to scout the surrounding area about a mile out to the south, you'll be taking 1st shift and we'll rotate every 2 hours. Victor check how much food and water we have left. We'll need enough to get back or else it'll be a one way trip.
(In Unison)"Yes Captain!"
"Shh. Keep your voices down. You never know how close the enemy is."
(In unison)"Sorry Captain."
After the soldiers broke their formation, the one in command, Captain Fang, sat on the sandy hill looking off into the distance, pondering over the thought of the mission.
A while later. "Captain. I have finished setting up the tent." Alen said while standing at attention.
"At ease soldier." Captain Fang said as he continued to look off into the distance.
"Say....Alen. What do you think about this war?"
"This war captain?" Alen said confusingly.
"Yes, this war. What do you think of it? I know I don't have any proof but I think someone is hiding in the back and pulling the strings. It just all seems....Weird."
"Well, if I may so....I believe this war was destined to happen and there was nothing we could do about it. I know that many people will live unfortunate lives for the next couple of years but it is our duty to end it as fast as possible. Alen said confidently.
"Too Simplistic. So narrow-minded." Captain fang said as he shook his head in shame.
"You mustn't think of this as simple rules and commands, but as ideas. A war will never follow the same path over and over again. It will evolve. The people will evolve. The weapons and the terrain will. All built from ideas. Did you know that Victor has 2 sisters waiting for him back home? He was due for release over 2 months ago but was picked to go on this mission with us. Do you know why?"

"N..No Captain." Alen said hesitantly.
"It's because all those fucking nobles are too scared to step a foot out into the battlefield. They stay in their high and mighty towers giving commands to a war they don't know how to fight. And because of this, the final draft was late for about a month so they had few Battalions guarding the borders. This was supposed to be an 8 person mission but was cut in half due to the shortage." Captain Fang said with an angry face.
"Well...whatever. Nothing can be done about it. Lets just get some sleep and continue our walk tomorrow. Were only a couple miles out until we reach their main army camp. Alen make sure you write down their total amount of troops they have. We'll go in and out as quickly as possible.
"Yes Captain."
Country of Trianta, Borders-
After about a 2 day ride from the Town we finally reached our destination. We reached the borders of Trianta where most of the soldiers are stationed. Getting off from the cart, 2 soldiers who seem like officers were waiting for us. Both wearing shiny steel armor with tree-like designs embedded within them, they stood out from the rest who all wore normal steel armor.
"Ahh, these must be the batch from Winslow. I heard two mages volunteered." The taller one said. Looking at him now, it seems as if he's never been in battle. A man with dark black hair and smooth pale skin. Hands so smooth and soft, like they've never held a weapon before. Of course the thing that stands out the most is the golden medallion around his neck indicating he's an officer.
"Yes sir. It is me and this young fellow here. My name is-"I didn't ask for your name Mage. Or should I say Peter Van Serin. The "Exiled Noble"? the tall man said with a smirk.
Peter immediately shut his mouth and looked down.
"My name is Forian Van Mero. You should be honored to be in the presence of a person such as myself. Now, I would like you two to accompany me to my tent. In case you haven't noticed, a mage is a big asset to our army. I need to get you guys set for the upcoming battle." Forian said as he walked towards the center of the base camp.
Looking around, the base camp was pretty large. Many tents formed up around each other with green banners all in front of them. Some soldiers were training or eating while others were putting on their armor. In the distance towards the center was a tent much larger than the rest.

While walking towards the tent, I decided to give my opinion to the fellow named Forian.
"Sir Forian. I am sure you are a clever man but you should never make a tent larger than the rest in a base. It's an immediate giveaway as to where a high-ranking official might be at."
After hearing this, Forian stopped walking and turned around facing towards me.
"Falin, was it? From my reports I heard you are a commoner. And a mage at that! So remarkable!" Forian exclaimed as he slowly walked towards me.
"But....commoner Falin. I must tell you that you have no right to speak to me without asking for approval first!" Forian shouted while moving his right hand in a fast motion towards my face.
Peter shut his eyes, not wanting to see such a sight. But no noise was heard. Opening his eyes, Peter saw Falin holding the arm of the noble Forian.
"You....YOU!" Forian shouted as he pulled his hand away.
"EXECUTE THIS MAN!" Forian shouted while holding his right arm as if he was in pain.
"Bu....but sir. He is a mage." The other officer said.
"I DO NOT CARE! KILL THIS MAN!" Forian shouted creating a big scene. The surrounding soldiers stopped what they were doing and watched as the scene unfolded.
"Officer Forian. I would advise you to keep your voice down." An even taller and larger man said behind Forian. He had short brown hair and a scar over his right eye. He too was wearing steel armor with tree like designs on his armor except he also had a green cape on his back. Standing at 6'7, the man put his hand on Forian's shoulder keeping him still.
"Ge....General! I apologize for my rude behavior! It's just that this commoner here-"This Commoner? Forian haven't I told you to respect all statuses here? The Kilts can attack at any second and such a distraction would prove fatal for us." The man said interrupting Forian.
The General then walked towards us and took his hand out initiating a handshake towards Peter.
"So sorry for my subordinate. I am General Hass, one of the 3 commanding Generals of the Triantian Army."
Peter took his hand and shook it in a fast manner.
" Its such an honor meeting the famous General Hass! Rumors say you killed a 3 headed Hydra Serpent from the forbidden lands!" Peter said while still shaking the General's hand. After realizing how long he was shaking his hand, Peter stopped with an embarassed face.
General Hass then looked at me and stopped in place. Eyes open-wide and a still body. Staring at me for around 5 seconds, General Hass finally took his hand out initiating another hand-shake.
"I...I am General Hass. Pleased to meet you." He says with a faintly shaking hand and nice smile.
"The names Falin. Pleased to meet you as well." I say while shaking his hand.
"Well then. It would seem my subordinate caused much trouble for you two. If you would please follow me, I will show you to your tents. Please make sure to rest up tonight. There will be a big battle coming up tomorrow." Hass said with a smile.
After being showed to my tent, Hass and the others left. Looking around the small tent, it wasn't half bad. A small but cozy bed and a chest to put some belongings in. Warm candles on the wooden stands around the tent and the best part of it all, a small 7ft by 7ft pool of hot water. But before I get into the bath, I should first set up the things they gave me ready for tomorrow.
Inside the small chest was the same steel armor that all the soldiers wore except this set had a star embedded over where the heart would be.
'I guess this means that I'm a mage.' I thought. After a couple hours of setting my supplies up and walking around the camp scouting the surrounding area, I walk back to my tent. Taking all my clothes off I walk into the pool of water relaxing all my muscles.
'God this is the best' I thought.
Sitting in the bath for a couple of minutes, I hear someone walk into my tent.
"Wheew. What a long day. Can't wait to-"
looking towards the middle of my tent stood a half-naked woman with red hair. She had a pretty face with pink lips and smooth skin, but she still had the aura of a fighter. In the middle of taking off her steel leggings, she looks at me with a surprised face.
'Wow. She's got a nice body.' I thought while staring at her.
Her face immediately turned red in embarrasement and she quickly put her armor back on.
Exiting my tent, she turned around and bowed.
"I am so sorry" and walked out.
