《Path Between Realms (Choosing Magic)》Part 30

Her feet stopped in front of the dresser, and Addison stared down at the flower as she tried to catch her breath. Her chest felt heavy from the antics she was trying to pull, and it was made worse by not knowing what was coming next.
As if I ever do, she thought in an effort to calm herself down.
At the moment, she needed to make her hand move, but both arms were numb. She stared at the violet flower with the tiny thorn somewhere on the stem and heard Lori's voice. It was a silly sentiment — a single moment of someone who hated her being kind, but it was hard to get the sound out of her ear. The herbalist was the first person who she wasn't bound to who had chosen to have half a conversation and be kind about it.
At least, the first person in a long time, not counting the wandering fey who took enough interest to play for a few minutes. Her childhood had been strange, and now she was giving the gift to Mathilda, who would crush it and ruin it. It stung, even though the thing would eventually die anyway. There wasn't a choice.
Addison reached out, carefully tapping to make sure she wasn't pricking herself again before wrapping her fingers around the stem. She could go anywhere she wanted, soon enough. Flower back in hand, she trekked back down the hall once again and set the slender thing down in front of Mathilda. "I don't know what kind it is, though."
"How am I supposed to use it then?"
Addison froze. It was, unfortunately, an excellent question. She shrugged her shoulders rather than trying to come up with another answer she didn't have. All of her actions felt alien -- like she was sitting on her shoulder just watching someone else make decisions for her and speak using her voice. "You know your own spells, Matilda. I figured you would be able to figure out a use for it. If you don't want it, though, I can go take back."

Except for that, which she wouldn't argue with at all. She would have no problem taking the flower out of the witch's gnarled hands.
Mathilda sighed loudly. "You are acting bizarre today, girl. Talking back, being vague, appearing where you shouldn't be. Whatever you're up to will show eventually, and I suspect I won't like it." She stood, taking the flower with her, and placed it on the mantle. "You still haven't told me why you're really here."
Addison opened her mouth, then shut it again. Deeper than the deal was another layer of truth.
She didn't really know why the Fairie Queen had made the deal or sent her to Earth. They were questions that would need answering, but not at that moment, and not with another person who was all too happy to use her. "I did tell you.." She shrugged her shoulders again, feeling the image of an impatient teenager very much but enjoying more than she wanted to admit. "You seem to be having a rough day."
Mathilda turned around after her hands were free and crossed her arms over her chest. "Am I?"
Addison leaned back in her chair. "Sorry," she said, although half-heartedly. "I need to know if I can stay here for a minute, though, as I can't exactly portal myself back to the other realms."
"You don't have the power."
"I don't have the power," she repeated. She didn't know the spell, didn't have the magic, didn't have anything or know anything that would open up the ground and fling her across dimensions so she could be somewhere, anywhere else. Her guess was that she didn't have those things for a reason, but she hadn't broached the subject with any of her guardians for a while.

She definitely hadn't asked since the queen had told her she would be free soon. But if she had to choose just one realm, she assumed they may never give her those types of powers.
Unless she chose hell. Then she'd probably have to go up and make deals and other degrading errands.
"So?" Addison asked when the witch still hadn't answered her question.
"So?" Mathilda mocked as she leaned against the table.
"Can I stay?"
"You'll have to go get us supplies."
of course, Addison thought. Of course, the first thing I will have to do is your shopping.
She would, however, and she knew that going back into town may actually be worthwhile this time around.

The Portals of Albion
Portals to other worlds. Siblings with a secret. A world in need of magic. Zach is haunted, scarred by his time spent in a place that might as well have been hell. Zara, his sister, even more so. After years of torturous experiments, they were finally rescued. But the years since then haven’t been easy. Both siblings just want a break, something to take their minds from the past. The portals that appeared all over the world a hundred years ago are the key. The reason behind years of captivity now holds the answer to their problems. For the second time in his life, Zack awakens as a ‘Traveler’. Someone possessing the ability to pass through these portals and venture into the mystic realms. What begins as a fresh start soon attracts the attention of nobles and those with less savory intentions. When you have known nothing but distrust for those in power, what would you do to remain in control of your life? I will be uploading new chapters on Tuesday and Saturday each week at 4pm Mountain Standard Time. (The story has been described as X-men meets Narnia. Which while not entirely accurate, is still a fun way of looking at it.) (Note: As with my other stories, this one focuses more on the characters than on constant action. The Lite-LitRPG and Gamelit elements are introduced into the story gradually.) Author's Note: This is my raw, mostly unedited text. I am using RR to test out this story as I'm writing it to get a feel for how the published and edited copy will be received. Certain sections of the story will be changed or added to when I publish it as well. Blue Screen Blues
When Ryan Glasser, (an emo kid by heart) kills himself after having a good day at school turn horribly bad, he is forced to stand before his maker for final judgment of his soul. With Ryan Thinking life was just a game he could just end and throw away without any consequences, he is offered a deal to live his next life in a real-life RPG world full of swords, magic, misery, memes, and Mondays with nothing to help him along the way but a magical cellphone full of his music to get by in his afterlife. A real-life RPG you say? That sounds like perfect place to spend eternity! What’s the catch? Well first of all, this “Server” is in a nightmarish beta stage that has two trapped goddesses engaged in an everlasting brutal holy war between each other that has recently turned into a stalemate. Ryan is supposed to kill one of these goddesses somehow. (Technically there is a third goddess, but no one really cares about her) Secondly Ryan can’t die in this world without completing his mission here. If he does, straight to hell he goes. Thirdly, right from the start of spawning into this world, he has an annoying clingy emo/scene cat-dog rogue girl fall in love with him. This would be great in all If Ryan didn’t hate furries. Ryan will realize no matter how hard he tries he just can’t lose this clingy disaster. Forth: Living in an RPG world is great and exhilarating but when the class you choose to roll seems to be just as emo as you are, interesting things are going to happen. You better hold on tight; destiny holds in store for Ryan a Twisted Romance, tons of betrayal, a life full of dark twists and turns, and an adventure that will make or break him in this strange new world. Welcome to Lectioterra Adventurer! (Please DO NOT buff the Raid boss) (Please note i am quite aware that book one was written with quite a few thousand errors. I took a break from writing for ten years and had to relearn a lot of things. I learned quite a lot from writing 100+ chapters so far. I will go back and edit book one’s chapters after I get book two finished. If you all want to point out the errors in the earlier chapters I will gladly edit those things ASAP)

FORSAKEN
A school getting summoned. A young man being left out and his cheat ability. The tale of a mere human rising from the bottom, to the throne of the strongest demon country of this fantasy world. What hardships will he encounter along the way?Tagged [18+] for Strong Language, Sex, Violence. There's also brother-sister incest. If you dislike that sort of thing, please refrain from reading this.More Information: I didn't put Comedy in the tag because I don't know if my humor would amuse readers. Though I said "hardship" it won't hurt your heart as much as Tate no Yuusha manga. Also, I'm not too used to western novels, resulting in me only being familiar to Japanese WN/LN. That's why please don't diss me for using 'honorifics' and Japanese things in my story.
