《ADEPTAVERSE》29 - Empire of Darkness Arc: Eradication Part 2

"Release in three....two...one.." Verse mumbled as she adjusted her respirator on her face, hovering her hand over the enter button on her laptop. She was sitting on top of a boat in an underground harbor which was situated under the prison. Around her was Radius, Ergo, Kry, Hugo, and Altara who was looking over Konstantine in a sleeping bag on the floor, still unconscious.
An alarm blared throughout the prison as all cells were unlocked, causing a huge mass of prisoners to flood out. In three minutes, the prison was empty.
"On the boat! Now!" Ergo shouted as the elven woman dragged some prisoners on their ship.
The boat they were using was a medium-sized Imperial Navy Ship. It was big enough to fit around 100 people, the other prisoners that couldn't get on got onto smaller jet boats, each with around six prisoners on.

It was still night time.
The ships soon made their way out of the tunnel under the prison where the harbor resided, soon turning right down the Zone 16 River.
Hugo looked over his shoulder at Verse, who was still typing away on her laptop. He frowned as he spoke to her; "Why did you release all of them? Didn't we agree to release only those with unfair charges?"
Everyone looked at Hugo then at Verse, the prisoners were too busy shuffling between each other around the group.
Verse looked up at Hugo. "I did."
"All of them had unfair charges? Is that what you are saying??" Hugo grimaced.
"Yes."
"That just isn't possible...surely the Empire would have imprisoned some actual criminals?"
Verse's calm face turned into one of slight anger.
"Are you defending the Wolven Empire?"
Hugo glared at her.
"No..I'm simply asking a logical questi-"
Altara sighed heavily and stood up. "I feel like we are headed towards a trap..."
Everyone turned their heads to Altara, who continued talking as he watched the river ahead.
"This rescue...was too easy...the boats had barely any guards as well as Konstantine."
A helicopter flew ahead, Radius who was sitting on the railing of the boat aimed his sniper at it.
"Red and black..that's an Imperial helicopter."
"Gh!" Hugo's right hand turned into a fist as he looked up at the chopper. "Altara is right..we were too careless!"
The river itself was around thirty meters wide surrounded by concrete walls which stretched up 10 meters from where the water stopped. On top of said walls were steel railings.
As they got deeper into the river the water turned ashy and gray, Kry looked over the railing Radius was sitting on at the water dark water which was lit up by the boat's sidelights.
"Ash..."
Ergo pointed ahead as two large floodgates slowly closed with a huge creak.
"Stop the boat!"
The boat stopped as Kry used his magik to cut the engine, a low hum emitting as he did so.
All boats stopped as they looked at the towering floodgate.

"Not good..not good at all." Hugo stood over Konstantine as Altara stood next to Hugo. Konstantine mumbled as her eyes slowly opened. "Wh~"
The helicopter that was following them soon started to hover just above the floodgate, a huge light coming from it aimed right at the boats the group and the prisoners were on.
Altara squinted at the light and started to sweat.
A speaker blared out from the helicopter as soldiers on each side of the river's walls aimed their rifles at them over the railings. On top of the flood gate stood Krow, Kaptain Lurk..and Trench alongside one other figure which was too hard to make out.
"We are being televised." Verse stated, on her laptop was a live feed from the helicopter. The camera was pointed at the boats.
Trench extended his arms outwards.
"THIS ERADICATION WILL BE TELEVISED!"
Radius swiftly aimed his rifle right at Trench, but before he could fire...

RATATATATATATATATATATATA!
Bullets started to rain.
Before Altara's eyes, he witnessed the prisoners being massacred. Ergo, the elven woman and leader of the once glorious Unchained Justice fell to the ground of the boat with a bullet wound to their head. Verse saw this as her eyes widened, and she started to slowly look up at the men raining bullets down but was soon scooped off her feet by Kry, who was shot once in the shoulder.
Altara froze as bullets rained around him, but was awakened by Hugo who tackled Altara into the water with Konstantine under his other arm, Radius yelled in rage as the wolven's black-caped raincoat flew as he aimed the sniper at Trench.
"TRENCHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!"
Before he could do anything fortunate Kry tackled Radius into the water with Verse under his other arm, Radius struggled as the two swam down through a large sewer pipe on the side of the river. He then soon swam up, Radius still struggling from both lack of breath and anger, as they reached the surface, which was a manhole inside of an underground tunnel. They both coughed as they crawled out, Radius coughing a bit whilst they were at it as he stood up, pointing at Kry as he also stood up.
"You bastard! I could have killed him right then and there!"
"And you could have been killed! Don't be so reckless!" Kry interrupted as he adjusted his glasses, looking at his now wet lab coat. He took it off, revealing a white top underneath. Verse sniffled and walked over to Radius, crying softly as she pushed her face into his chest.
"Ergo!..." Radius grinded his teeth as he looked down the tunnel, spotting Altara who was looking over an injured Hugo, sat against the concrete wall with a bullet wound to his chest. Hugo sighed as Altara quickly got a potion out of Hugo's coat pocket, pouring it on the bullet wound.
"Cheers, Alt." Hugo grunted as he looked over at Radius who was patting the crying Verse's head.
"Radius..why did you shout that military man's name? Do you know him?"

An awkward silence filled the tunnel.
"I do."
Radius said, looking down at Verse who was still crying softly.
"I used to work in the Wolven Army..but I couldn't do it any longer after witnessing their deeds to the innocent lives both inside the city walls and outside."
Verse looked up at Radius, then across at Hugo.
"He..sniff..picked me over his career, saving me from getting executed because of my..disability." She gently put a hand on her respirator. "He's the reason I live today, he's like a dad to me.."
Hugo looked forward to the brick wall opposite him.
"I see.."
Konstantine coughed and struggled to get up, placed down next to Hugo. Hugo looked down at her and quickly got on his knee's helping her sit against the brick wall, she coughed heavily.
"What...what the fuck..just happened?"
Everyone went silent, but as soon as Altara heard her voice he quickly went over to her, kneeling in front of her.
Konstantine looked up at Altara.
"You look like shit."
Altara said as he looked into her crimson eyes, Konstantine looked up at him leaning her head against the wall. "I could say the same about you.."
Kry walked over to Konstantine standing beside Altara.
"We will tell you everything later..for now we have to move."
Altara thought to himself about what he saw Konstantine hooked up to; a machine extracting her blood. He squinted at the floor before standing up, helping Konstantine up as well.
Hugo also stood up, his parka soaked from the water just like everyone else's clothes.
"Manhole ahead." Kry observed as Radius walked past him. "I'll lead the way..." Radius said as he cocked his sniper rifle. "Thank god you're waterproof.."
A rumble soon shook the tunnel and everyone staggered.
"Gh!" Altara looked up at the roof of the tunnel. "I don't know what that was but I think we should go out of that manhole before we become permanent residences of this tunnel."
Soon enough the group made it out of the tunnel via the manhole.
"Oh my god.." Hugo mumbled as they were met with a street a few blocks away from the prison, the street's buildings were mostly on fire. "Where are we?" Hugo asked as he looked around at the buildings on fire in what looked like a trance.
Radius coughed and looked around. "We're in the First Zone...mostly filled with government officials and favored nobles..but it seems like...people are reacting to the broadcast."
A molotov flew over their heads at the buildings before them and a topless wolven man with an assault rifle strapped around him via a sling cried out. "THIS IS YOUR LAST STRAW!!!" more wolven citizens started to come out of various places in the street, throwing even more weapons at the buildings.
"They must have thought it would set an example and scared the people of the city..they seem to have only angered them."
A man on fire ran out one of the buildings and was quickly shot down by the rebels.
"These people are much like us, Verse..they have had everything torn away from them by the empire and now they are reacting like a chemical reaction."
Altara looked up at the sky as a helicopter on the opposite end of the street appeared, turning to its side as a machine gunner started to fire down on the rebels. Hugo summoned a shield and stood in front of the group. "Shit!"
One of the rebels ran out of an alley and fired a rocket launcher at the chopper, destroying it instantly. The rebels cheered out and Hugo desummoned his shield. "Where did they even get that??"
"Either self-made or from the Adeptan Black Market. We've gotta move outta here this street is only the start of it all."
The group started to run out of the street, but as they did Altara stopped and squinted to the distant end of the street. He spotted a palace, and above it was a huge rocky overhang from a huge cliff behind the palace. Altara quickly started to run once more.
...
Meanwhile, in an armored truck.
Trench sat in the back with his arms in his lap. Next to him was Kaptain Lurk. "A real shame they rejected my offer to join the Kalamitus in a way such as this...no matter. We have plenty more and the Emperor is satisfied with me being the recruiter of it even after this, I am sure."
Trench's his phone rang and he swiftly answered. "Report. They...escaped? And you failed to...the Zone One street is on fir-..get a chopper in there then!...it was shot down?...."
Trench went silent, and the soldier driving the truck glanced up at the rearview mirror at Trench.
Trench looked out his window at the dark street they were driving down. "I am making my way through the Fourth Zone back to the palace. I want helicopters to escort my truck back to the palace immediately."
He hung up, sighing, and leaning back.
"So the beat wolf is finally biting."
His phone rang once more, and he answered.
"What is it now? The Third Zone's citizens have turned on the guards?? Zone 15 is on fire too?! Zone 8?"
"Gh!"
He leaned back.
Lurk glanced over to Trench. "This isn't no rebellion...its a whole revolution."
"Bastards.."
He hung up and called another number.
"I need all of you to meet me in the meeting room...as soon as possible."
He hung up and exhaled. "Faster, driver."
The driver picked up speed as a helicopter started to escort Trench's truck as well, as he requested.
"A meeting with the Kalamitus I presume. All of them?"
Lurk asked, looking out his window.
"All of them. I'm squishing this bug before it mutates."

Trying to find a new beginning, he reforged himself anew as he awoke to memories of a long forgotten past. Memories that intersected with his new reality. His invincible soul now unchained, surprises await him as he begins his new jouney in an unknown land. I'm just writing this for fun, but i'll never drop it. This won't be something short, as I have the very long term in mind, but I'm a total noob to writing, so I most likely won't release chapters very often, at least until I really get the hang of it. But, the chapters will always be several thousand words long. At the minimum 2k, maximum like 6k... Pretty big variations, sorry. If you like it, great. If you don't, that's understandable. Regardless, if you have a read, I'd appreciate feedback for areas you think I should improve on, whether it's the use of some words or how I should write something or WHATEVER. I'm open to anything, good or bad, because with your help, it'll help make this story better. **DISCLAIMER** So you don't waste your time, I want to let you know what you're getting into, because I like knowing ahead of time before I read something. This might appear like a Xianxia novel, but it's not. It only starts that way. This is a western fantasy world and setting that many of you are familiar with. The beginning chapters might be a bit of an info dump. Some of it might seems superfluous, but a lot of information is relevant to the story. The first few chapters might also seem rushed, but I'll try to keep it exclusive to those. This is a cliche, OP MC story with the typical harem, but other than the quick start, everything else will be gradual. There will be romance, and probably many moments at that, but don't expect anything TOO detailed. If you want something really steamy, look elsewhere. References and throwbacks to stuff most likely. The setting won't be really dark or really light. Middleground, I guess. The MC is far from a young kid, but he won't totally reflect his age. I don't plan on discarding info, abilities or characters that you KNOW should come back and be around. I see it a lot and it sort of bugs me haha... but I could have oversights, I dunno. As I said, I'm a noob. That's it, really. If you're interested, welcome to my world!
