《ADEPTAVERSE》2 - Purity Arc: Hugo The Spellsword

Hugo and Altara entered the elevator from the reception area, Hugo leaned over to the buttons and pressed the button to the 12th floor. He then stood straight and crossed his arms.
"So, Altara...what makes you wanna study here?" Hugo simply asked, glancing at him.
Altara thought to himself, looking down slightly before speaking. "For all of my life, I haven't really had much of a purpose. I finished college with a diploma in astrology and after that...I don't know...I didn't know what to do. Get a job in the Adeptan Space Agency?...maybe, but to put it simply I don't like being bound to things. That sort of job requires true commitment. When I found that map I felt good about the thought of coming here and studying the energy that is illegal to use in all of the major cities on the planet. A choice that will open many paths."
Hugo put his fingers to his chin as he thought. "College? Say..how old are you, Altara?"
"Nineteen." He simply answered.
"I see. You are pretty tall too, around 6'1 or so. Have some muscle on your body.." Hugo analyzed out loud.
Altara frowned slightly as he looked up at him. "And?"
"Hmm. Well, you know how I said I teach battlemages? You see we actually have multiple types of battlemages. I teach a branch of battlemages known as spellswords. We balance the use of physical weapons such as swords and magik at the same time. I was thinking that maybeeee..." He looked at him and grinned. "You could be under my teaching in particular. Spellswords suit your build which is why I mentioned your height and muscle."
Altara glanced at him. "Hmm...It seems quite intriguing..but the thing is I have no idea how to manipulate magik at all. No...I barely know what magik is.."

Hugo chuckled slightly. "Don't you worry about that. I'll teach you the ways."
The elevator opened up into a corridor. Everything was still made out of black bricks lined with gold. They walked down it. There were black doors with gold door handles along each side of the corridor, Altara looking at each. They all had names on them.
"Where do these doors lead too?" He asked Hugo as he looked at the doors.
Hugo looked at him. "The doors we're walking past? They lead to dojos. Students can practice their magik there or be taught by teachers. The names on them are the names of the teachers that own them."
"Ah..I see." He kept following Hugo who went to one of the doors, unlocking it with a gold key and walking in. "Make yourself at home." Hugo motioned him to come into the room. Altara did so and looked around..it was a large dojo. In the middle of it was a 10x10 meter wooden platform which elevated off the ground by around 2 inches.
"This is your dojo?" Altara asked, putting his satchel down next to the door.
"Correct!" Hugo grinned. "I don't use this place for anything other than teaching students magik. I sleep in my office..heh."
"Is this floor for the dojos only? I saw you press the 12th floor in the elevator." Altara asked as he leaned against the wall next to the door with his arms crossed.
"That it is! I only have around...8 other students. All of which are very experienced in magik and the style of a spellsword."
Altara raised a brow. "Do they come in often? You said they were experienced so would they not need to come in?"

Hugo shrugged as he walked around the large wooden platform in the center of the room. "You see, I'm not a very strict teacher at all compared to the others here. Once I think they are good enough I simply give them access to this dojo for use whenever they want and if they want to improve further then they come to their teacher, me. Today is a Saturday so some people are actually not present at the tower."
"How long do people usually take until you think they're good enough?" Altara said as he stopped leaning on the wall.
"Depends on the person. I once had someone prove themself in a month, another a year, another 6 months, another 2 years...it really does vary." Hugo walked up to Altara and looked at his biker jacket, gripping the leather near the bottom of it. "Hmm..seems durable."
"Durable?" Altara looked at him. "Oh..do you guys want me to wear specific clothes?"
"No no...your clothes seem fine. Some people are given thicker clothes if they're fighting each other for practice." Hugo patted his shoulder and walked onto the wooden platform in the middle of the room.
Altara cocked his head. "Fight each other for practice?...wait..why are you judging my clothes this early on? I'm not gonna fight anyone yet, right?"
Hugo grinned like usual. "I wanna see how you attune to magik first. Come, Altara. Step onto the platform opposite me."

His eyes had turned bloodshot and his hands shook with rage. “The first thirty…” “Shut up!” Genzo bellowed “How dare you help these disrespectful gaijin?” Flecks of spit and madness flew from his face, his fist raised ready to strike. But Emi did not flinch, instead she was about ready to continue when Yuma Takeuchi interrupted her. “Uchida, please,” her sweet sounding words could melt ice. “I think we will have a better chance of getting home if we all work together.” When she glanced up with her sleepy looking eyes at Genzo Uchida he deflated visibly. “Were not getting home.” Uchida said coolly. “Group summoning, large, that puts us in the 60 series. No one came to greet us after five minutes of arrival. That leaves scenarios 68 and 69. In scenario 68 there is something that binds the large group together; they are all classmates or a single family. But thanks to the gaijin” he spit out the word “I think we are scenario 69 with no way home.” Ikko Inoue’s eyes went wide, while Katsukno and Hayata started muttering to themselves. Tim took on a serious look and rubbed his scruffy chin. Emi maintained her stoic expression while trying to find something to refute. McKenzie glanced at Randall and giggled. Randall took the prompting of his teammate and followed up by approaching Genzo. “Uh, so we are in a sixty-nine?” “Yes.” Replied Genzo with the seriousness of someone who’s life was about to end. McKenzie covered her mouth and snickered. “You and me, were stuck in a sixty-nine situation?” Randall pushed with a grin. “Yes, we are all stuck in a sixty-nine scenario together!” Genzo retorted in anger. McKenzie fell on her butt laughing. “What the hell is so funny?” Demanded Genzo, whose face had turned red. “It’s a problem with the automatic translation.” Retorted Tim. Randall, who seemed unable to quit started in again “So, about this sixty-ni…” Genzo interrupted Randall with a swift punch to the face. But, because of their height difference it was a bit of an uppercut that left Randall rattled. Tim and Ikko moved to step in between the two, but Genzo showed no further hostility. Instead he just stared at his clenched fist with such intensity it grabbed the attention of the room. “I unlocked a skill.” He said bluntly. ***************************** This is not a light novel, but people who like light novels should enjoy the themes of this book. ***************************** A Map of the Region

Travels along the Astral Road
The words in these scrolls depict the path of Bai Qi, the greatest scholar of his time after he was forced to leave his life, achievements, and even body behind to save himself. Assuming the persona of Wu Guang, he will have to start his cultivation from zero on the weakest area of the lowest plane possible. How, when, and at what cost he will reach his previous strength? Will he surpass it? Or fall along the way?
