《Garden of Thorns *Lit RPG*》Chapter 35: The Gate of Shame.

Krieg advised Joshua to watch first, and he was right. It was unnerving, Joshua watched how 5 guys overpowered a demon that was the size of a 3 storey building. When a demon smashed one of them to bits, they did not falter. They just kept going at it. A cultist charged at a soldier with a sword ,only to be punched in the face and Joshua watched with amusement and some slight horror. To the sight of a shovel.
"Don't underestimate the shovels of a Suicide Division member." The cultist had his head bashed in and crushed by the shovel itself. The Goliaths charged straight into the larger demons, blasting the tip away when it made contact with the demon's skin. Blowing it off then climbing on top of it with the revolvers. Blasting away its head.
The Crimson Reavers went to work, clearing hordes by swinging their blades. Vizel joined in, leading the charge as the horsemen joined him from behind. Impaling the demons without hesitation. The Commander was no slouch either, firing his rifle at the cultist and then shoving the bayonet into the neck of a cultist. Then using the cultist's corpse as leverage while he kills more of them.
The Rogues were going for close combat, bowie knives and machetes as they hacked away the corpses of their enemies. Watching how they used the jetpacks not to fly upwards or to retreat. Using the added mobility to claim more demons to their list of kills. A Goliath was stepped on by a demon that was towered similar to 25 storey buildings.. Yet Rogues, Demon's Bane and Goliath's climbed on the demon's legs. Stabbing and shooting the leg to force the demon to their knees. The cultists were unnerved, the demons were confused and with reason. These humans were charging to their deaths. The tower demon had its face rearranged by all the explosions used by the Goliaths, the Demon's Bane members climbed on, firing their M45 pistols with explosives. It was carving through the skull where they could see the demon's brain. They threw grenades into its path, watching the demon fall to its demise. A few soldiers were crushed but they kept on going.
"Let's go!" Joshua said as he joined the fight. Lugasa went charging at some of the demons. Joining the Crimson Reavers to clear out the hordes. Iacus and Donovan stood by Joshua's side, watching the demon's be wary of them. Donovan and Iacus's eyes glowed, as the demons that tried to cast magic had their spells interrupted by Iacus's knives. Donovan slashed the limbs of a dozen demons so easily, then readying his shield to bulldoze them to pieces.
Alec, Mitchell and Krieg went to work as usual. Firing away their guns at everything they could see. Alec and Mitchell using their powers to strike the demons with blood, creating blood spirals to destroy their formations. Easing the fight. Krieg was just kicking the demon's with his boots and hacking a cultist's head off with his rifle's bladed stock.
Vizel stood still as 5 demon knights pounced from behind. 10 rifles struck out from Vizel's cape, unleashing devastating hail of explosive projectiles to their path. Vizel could see the 10 bodies that stuck out from his cape and shadow. They were members of the Suicide Division. The sight of the 10 bodies made the demons watch their step near Vizel. Clearly, intimidated by the White Rose's backup.

Lugasa used Challenge Jabs to force the demons to aggro on him. Only to duck as Krieg kept kicking the demon's until they were banished.
"Keep coming you bitches! I'm going to boot you pieces of SHIT BACK TO HELL!" Krieg shouted as he continued to boot them while Vizel was slashing through the hordes. The Suicide Division kept on going, their numbers were chipping bit by bit. Yet the demons were the ones panicking. A lone horseman readied his bayonet with an explosive strapped to his blade and pulling the pin of something from his bag.
"Hiyah!" The horseman went on to a hundred hordes.Their blades pierced the horseman. Tearing off his mask, to see the man smiling.
"For the Lord." They realized what was in his bag, a loud crackle of electricity as an explosion occurred. It was the start of many other explosions as Joshua watched the many explosions occurred. Carnage was being unleashed, the demon lord looked with disbelief.
"Why?! Why do you not succumb to chaos?!" Joshua watched the Burst Gauge hit its 5th stack. Now going to use the full 5 stacks, Joshua readied one magic.
'Ancient of Winter magic skill : Avalanche' The skill brought forth a snow storm of ice javelins that rained down on the demons. Their formation was shattering and despite the dwindling numbers of the Suicide Division, they kept on pushing. The Goliaths, Rouges, Demon's Bane and Crimson Reavers followed behind the soldiers. They were bigger, they were stronger and more equipped yet. They followed behind the Suicide Division's soldiers and riders on horseback.
Vizel was joining the Commander at the front line with the others. Joshua turned back to see the other citizens. Men, women and teenagers put on the coats of the Suicide Division. Great coats and rushing.
"Every member of that town is part of the Suicide Division. Once you've served your first battle, you can decide where you wish to go. Most stay because it is all that they know. While others, doctors, lawyers and those that can be used to teach the younger ones? They are encouraged to live." Krieg spoke up to Joshua, who could barely hear the sentence as a demon got close to him. Watching 5 bayonets impaled the demon. They stood over the fallen demon, hearing it give out a plead of mercy. The eyes they had, it was not hatred. It was just pity for the demon and they did not say anything. Continuing onwards.
They continued onwards, even the Demon Lord was discouraged. It was their fight, Joshua didn't need to strike the killing blow. No matter how much the Demon Lord blasted his magic at them, Joshua watched their bodies be torn. Their gas masks burning off their face. Their limbs flew into the air.
"Throw me at him!" A soldier shouted as a Goliath nodded, throwing the soldier at Jilvameth's face. Jilvameth caught the human being.
"You dare vermin!?"
"For the lord!" The soldier shouted as he pulled the pin, exploding in Jilvameth's hands. The others continued their onslaught, Jilvament raised his left hand. Blasting magic that sent the Commander's arms flying off.
"Soldier, rip off my gas mask!" The soldier did as instructed, the Commander put his mouth by the soldier's dagger to the chest. Then charging ahead back at Jilvameth.

"They do not fight out of hatred. Rather the shame of their ancestors. The betrayal that they had done to the 9th, though it was not them. They will bear that sin and will fight to the death." Raizel spoke up as the other familiars headed onward but Joshua remained behind.
The Suicide Division did not look back, they marched onward. Stomping on the corpse of their own allies. Picking up the magazines of their fallen brothers and sisters. Grabbing weapons that could be used. They were practical. Even in death they were helping their own. Jilvameth's chair that was floating above the ground was being pommeled by these people. They were loading explosive ammunition to their rifles. Firing at Jilvameth's chair, the demon lord unleashed his powers. Raining death to the ground, yet it was not enough. The spears struck the limbs of the Suicide Divison's members. The Goliath's watched as their arms were slowly turning to stone, they blew their limbs off and continued to fight.
"Stop! Stop!" Jilvameth's words were lost to them, then he looked at Joshua.
"Thorn! Order them to stop at once! They serve you do they not!?" Jilvameth's confidence had shattered so easily.
"They don't serve me. They serve themselves." Joshua said as he Jilvameth's chair fell, where the Azteris people wielded their weapons and struck Jilvameth's body, they were small when comparing to the demon lord. The demon lord was a skyscraper yet, this demon lord is now on the ground begging for mercy. Even using magic to strengthen his body, yet it was not enough. Nothing can be done.
Trying to heal himself yet the attacks by the Suicide Division, the health kept dropping faster. Vizel stood over Jilvameth's face with his blade. Covering the demon lord with thorns.
"You took my brothers away with your hordes. At least now, you can't take anyone away!" Vizel shouted as he slashed the Jilvameth's head off, where white roses bloomed from the dead demon lord's body, flower petals burst all over. Blanketing the area. The Commander who fell to his knees, opened his jaw. Feeling the soreness of his jaw from it.
The surviving members looked at each other. A few Rogues perished. Goliaths crushed.

"Bayran, Asim, Barakas, Cinder!" The four Ancients appeared by Joshua's side.
"Yes, Lord?"
"Can we return this world to its original state?"
"Yes." The four Ancients began to chant their words and spells as Joshua stood in front of them. Using his body as the medium. Rain poured over the ground, where the people of Azteris took off their masks, taking off their gloves. It was as if they had never had rain touch their skin before.
"What is this?! Water falling? Is it acidic?" The rain cleared where they could see the bright sun above them, with clear clouds. Then seeing the trees sprout out from the ground. Grasses taking their life, creatures coming out from the ground. Dryads that began their work to help heal the land.
Soon, the nature and everything around this land had returned. There was no such thing as destruction in this place. It was as if that had never existed. What they all saw were the beautiful things they could see. A Fenrir appeared before them, pouncing all over the land, when it land. A calming green light shined to the bodies of those around them.
It was calming.
"To the Suicide Division of Azteris. You will be free. From now on, Azteris will be able to live. You are all forgiven by the 9th Lord of Thorns. As the current Lord of Thorns, I wish to tell you. That you all have the right to choose what you wish to do. I won't ask you to follow me. You all liberated your world with your own hands. I am merely the one who beared witness to this." Joshua spoke to them, seeing the Commander kneel before Joshua.
"I choose to serve." The Commander said. The original non-combatants took off their masks.
"Thank you, for not forcing us..Lord." They spoke as they turned back.
"Wait!" The commander shouted and stood on his feet.
"To those that walk away from us. Soldiers, give them the honourable salute!"
"Yes, Commander!" The ones who walked away smiled as their allies pointed their rifles upwards. Shouting the phrases.
"Honour to my brethren!"
"Victory to my kin!" The entire time until those that have left were gone. A few Rogues, a few Goliaths, a few of the Demon's Bane members threw the towel. The others did not view them as traitors or weak, but saluted their allies. For the people of Azteris the long fight is over. There were more that left. Now what Joshua had in front of him was 300 of the soldiers, the Commander, 150 men on horseback. 50 Goliaths, 30 Rogues and 25 Demon's Bane members. The 5 Crimson Reavers still stayed. From the 10 thousand he saw earlier, the numbers reduced to this made Joshua smile.
"Our friend's deserve rest, I hope you don't view them too badly." One of the men spoke up.
"No. I don't. Azteris will be in peace, thanks to the Fenrir who will guard the gate. No demon will be able to breach it. They will be safe. I suppose you all are sure?"
"Allow us to pay the debt of our allies on their behalf." The Commander said.
"Please." The others added on to join their Commander's words.
They are now your familiars.
The benefit, if they die in combat. They will get back up and fight until they are 'truly gone'.
State of Truly Gone refers to when their body needs to be healed. MP will be used to repair their bodies.
You've also level up to level 100.

"Of course. When I do not call for you, you will remain here for now." Joshua said as their wounds all healed up. The Commander's arms grew back and Joshua passed him the gas mask.
"The Suicide Division of Azteris.. We serve the Lord of Thorns." The Commander announced.

An Unwilling Monster
In the city of Kholakel, the highlight of the year for the upper classes is the annual monster pacification of the misty woods. Ostensibly it's a culling of the monster population to prevent them encroaching on urban areas, but it's an open secret that it's actually treated as more of a blood sport, the participants competing to score the most kills. After all, why else would the politicians and elites of the city bother to attend personally? Given the intense competition and high-tech weapons and gear in use, one might wonder how the forest has not yet been completely depopulated. As this year's culling approaches, a group of unfortunate children are about to discover the answer first-hand, but thanks to an unexpected twist of fate, one of them will score the chance to play the role of the hunter instead of the prey. This was an attempt at writing something darker than my usual fare. The story I actually ended up with isn't as mean to the MC as I'd originally planned out, to the point that I'm not sure the story deserves the horror/grimdark tags anymore, but this is still an unfair world with unambiguously evil antagonists. Chapters are short to start with, but get longer once the first act is over.
