《Book of Kings》Chapter 33

I still was angry.
Of course, I was.
Someone should have told me, to know such a thing.
Everyone even slightly interest in magic should be told, it should be the first thing everyone should know.
It's dangerous and reckless not to.
Who knows what could have happened if I didn't know sooner.
I stormed out with my things right after because I was so upset.
I didn't ask any questions.
'Pure magic cannot affect the human body?'
What does this mean?
Does that mean it does have effects on animals or maybe even monsters?
If I would fling a rock I levitated onto someone it would still hurt them and magical fire spread from wood or a cloth would burn me as normal fire would, right?
A summoned gust of wind would still cool someone even if it was magical, right?
What about potions, they have clear effects on the body but I did not know if they affect animals.
It did not matter if not, they did clear things to the human body.
There were too many unreliabilities and unknowns.
I expressed my frustration by kicking a stone on the street, and it hit someone in front of me.
Perchance I knew the person.
I called him with a yell of his name, "Amou!"
I ran to catch up with him.
"Did you just throw a rock at me?" He dusted off his coat.
When I was by his said I asked him still angry, "did you know that magic cannot affect humans?"
"Like if I would shoot fire at your face you won't burn? Yes, of course, I do but still I would never. That would just be plain rude, though some of our classmates might not think the same way I do. Have you never seen them do it after class?"

I could not say that I have.
I only occasionally left the house, what now seems like my detriment I spent most of my time inside reading or studying.
"Where did you first learn that?" I asked him, not answering his question.
He put a hand to his chin and looked up to reflect, "back in the guild in Karcia, the city nearest to Oredon, where I studied before I got a sponsorship, an upper classmate thought it would be fun to play pranks on freshmen and splashed conjured water on unaware peoples faces, one of those was me, after the fact I wondered why my face was dry but the ground was wet or where most of the water went. I asked and they told me, magic or rather magically created elements do not affect the human body."
"Does the same apply to animals?"
"I don't know. We could ask a teacher, Mister Prav and Miss Ryleigh are normally available at this time of day. I go to their offices once in a while asking for guidance and studying help but thinking about maybe not. They are going to be annoyed seeing me so often.
I wonder, you are friends with Grand Magister Eeming, right? And you are one of the top students in the class, did you not know? Where is this sudden burst of anger and interest coming from?
Don't tell me, did one of the senior students prank you?
What was it? Fire, water, or even arella?"
He shuddered and stuck out his tongue.
"Could you imagine getting a face full of that?"
"No, nothing like that. I was just... surprised, maybe even annoyed that I didn't know something so basic after almost an entire year of studying."
"Yeah, you're right. At least one teacher or some person of authority in the guild should have told us. I wondered why they didn't.

Could be because it IS something so basic, like having to tell a medic that blood is red or something like that.
Anyway, I was just on my way towards your house and I thought that maybe we could study a bit more together just before the big tests, they are in three days after all."
"I appreciate it but not today. Tomorrow we could if you want."
"Sorry, but I can't tomorrow. Tonight I'll be with the astronomers and going to be up all night 'til early morning, don't think I want to do anything tomorrow except sleep."
"I guess that's it then until the tests."
"Seems like it, see you in class then."
We said our farewells and split up.
I just went home but there was still something gnawing at the back of my mind.
I sat down on a chair in the kitchen and thought, "what else was there I didn't know?"
There were things I didn't understand and in this house was one of them.
The dagger.
Standing up I rummaged through drawers until I found it.
I sat down again.
Except for the sheath, it's metal, pure metal.
Blade, grip, and guard.
I was sure I cannot affect leather so it’s not the sheath but it's also metal which I was sure I couldn't affect.
Yet...
I'm unsure.
I held the dagger above one of my hands.
If I were to drop it, it would fall and cut up the back of my other hand.
But I did not fear it happening.
I breathed in hard.
I could do it twice, couldn't I?
There was nothing on my mind except it.
I let go.
No sane man would have done something like this willingly,
except for me.
For it did not fall, quite the opposite.
It was floating there, stopped mid-air.
Something so impossible it rendered me speechless.
Could I have been the first person to achieve the wielding of metal magic?
I reached my hand up and touched the tip of the dagger with my finger.
Through the touch, it floated upward, like it was weightless.
I laughed out loud, in fascination, in joy, delight, and excitement.
But quickly calmed down and asked myself, how?
How was I doing this?
I didn't have to think for long.
There was just one explanation.
Just as I had received magic and the ability to see magic from the fairies I had also received the gift of manipulating metal.
My mind went to something else that very moment.
I shouldn't have been the only one then.
There was someone else with me that day.
He was tall, very much in fact and he had very dark long hair.
Almost the inverse of myself.
I could not remember anything else.
What was his name? What was his name?
Did I even ask?
Foolishness.
Something else that was so important now that I had not known because of my own ineptitude.
If I would have socialized with other classmates or that boy I would know.
I would know so much more.
I could have been on the lookout for any news that concerned another boy mage who was gifted such as me.
Though know that I thought about it more, would he be the same as me?
It did not have to be set in stone that he had to wield metal, it could be something else.
He could call lightning from the heavens or conjure up wood, for all that I knew about fairy magic he could control time itself or just color.
The inability to know bore into my very core.

The Abyssal Dungeon
The world of Vol, a huge, bountiful plane where the only constant is life, in its many, many forms. One such form is a dungeon core, a peculiar little gemstone, and the focus of our attention. Watch as this otherwise unremarkable gem awakens in one of the most resplendant places in Vol, an aptly named Mana Reef, and how it turns its simple hole in the ocean floor into something truly unique, all while the rest of the world is forced to deal with its growth. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is my first venture into writing for fun, and I'm hoping to keep this running until I run out of juice. With that said, I very much enjoy dungeon core novels, and wanted to do one a bit outside the norm. Hope you enjoy! BladeMage
Arenya Azural, a dragon-blooded farmer from a small town in the middle of nowhere, always dreamed of being a great hero, battling demons and monsters as a force of magic and power. Now her dream has a chance to become reality - she's a new student at Ba'al Cedric's Academy of Adventurers, a university for warrriors and heroes to learn to battle against the surprisingly amicable demon armies of the neighboring country in an endless war nobody really remembers the point of by now. She's also a BladeMage - an exceedingly rare and exceedingly difficult dual class that few have ever managed to succeed in, but those who have gain immense power. Arenya has a long road ahead of her, with rival students, duels with demons, and a host of benchmarks she must pass in order to keep her scholarship. Will she make it to level 100 and beyond, or die too many times and be forced to return home, tail (literally) between her legs to a life of farming and dreaming of adventure? BladeMage is a LitRPG with a lighter focus on stats. It features battles, leveling up, giant monsters, a bit of fanservice, and more. [Update: The LitRPG elements are proving themselves relatively unimportant as I continue to write. They may be dropped entirely, in which case I will change the prior chapters as well as update this description.] Content warnings: As a story featuring lots of fighting, there will be blood and death. However, since characters rarely die permanently, this will not be a hyperviolent story with extreme gore for the sake of it. Some sexual content and fanservice may be included, but this should remain firmly at the PG-13 level and there will be no sexual violence of any kind. The Cover: Someone suggested that I should have a dragon girl with a miniskirt on the cover. I can't draw and I don't know who to ask or commission, so a few minutes in the GNU Image Manipulation Program and the masterful cover above was created! Please feel free to use your imagination to see a gorgeous half-dragon with azure hair, wings, and a tail, holding a lightning-infused sword while fighting demons.
