《Another World? Never Saw This Coming》Chapter 10 Back in Black

All John could feel was pain.
Unending, searing pain, it felt almost as bad as getting impaled and killed by that piece of rebar.
As John was unconscious, he had no idea of what was going on around him, all that was going through his head were the memories of his life leading up this point.
John was born into a loving family with a father who worked in Engineering and a mother who was a Geologist. He was raised by his parents an only child and was taught to never stop using his imagination and to admire the small things in life.
As John had a habit of making friends with everyone he met he never faced much bullying and went through Middle School with relative ease. In High School John was a bit more secluded but still made a few friends. He started pursuing his passion for rocks and technology a weird mix probably due to his parents influence.
Something Interesting about John's schools was the fact that they taught Archery and Sword fighting.
As he got to around 17 he started participating in local charity work feeding the homeless and supporting disabled people, he also got involved with video games, his grades suffered a bit but that was mostly due to him being a procrastinator.
As far as relationships go John had never tried to focus on that kind of thing in school. He was too concerned about his future but obviously all of his plans for the future had gone to hell, thanks to a nice piece of rebar through his chest.
Thinking back on how ordinary and “Goody/goody” his life had been he internally smiled.
However John then began to think over his current situation seriously. He had already accepted the fact that he was in another world, but as to how he got here , he had no clue. And funnily enough John was not interested in going back, even though he loved his family, he was sure he had died and completely banished the thought.
Now the hard part was figuring what to do for the future, along with figuring out out this weird power he had “Manipulator” what all that entailed was a mystery but being unconscious and in insane pain was not going to let his thought process continue.
John regained consciousness and slowly opened his eyes to confirm his surroundings. The first thing he realized was that he was in a prison.
John: ‘Great now what’d Riley do…?’
After confirming the presence of two guards standing right outside his cell, he then looked down to assess his own condition.
His chest was wrapped in bandages that were drenched in blood, not a good sign.
John carefully raised the bandages to get a better look at the wound and regretted it immediately.
The wound running across his chest was turning blackish as the flesh seemed to be rotting from some kind of poison, probably from the Deryun’s claw, the wound itself cut through every layer of John’s skin and muscle going down to the bone, leaving parts of his ribs exposed.
After quickly covering the wound John and feeling a bit faint after seeing that sight.
John then wondered why he wasn’t dead yet, he then remembered Riley talking about the Leveling system in this world and if the Deryun really was as dangerous as Riley said based on John’s knowledge of games he must have raised his level a great deal, and due to being injured while leveling up, his endurance stat must have gone to insane levels.
With this in mind John cockily tried to move only to collapse from the intense pain which in turn caused his wound to spurt more blood.

John: ‘Well I guess endurance on a wound this bad probably has more to do with not dying rather than being able to move around freely’
John then imagined his STATUS screen and the UI popped up in front of him.
Name: John Montem Age: 18
Occupation: traveler Level: 25

John: ‘Holy crap, I expected a lot of improvement but isn’t this a bit fast? Also Remote, Compression, and Extraction, looks like manipulator has a lot more potential and it also seems like I was right about the endurance boosting, also “Idiotic Deryun Slayer” man I just can’t win. Well no time to dwell on this I’m almost at my limit’
John’s vision was starting to go black again most likely due to loss of blood from reopening the wound.
———————————————————————————————————
Riley had just gotten back to the town and after dismounting her horse she walked Bowlegged into the Healer’s house.
Riley: “OY RABBIT WHERE THE HELL’S JOHN!!”
After yelling Riley suddenly got a bad premonition about what was going on.
Right then the door behind Riley was kicked open and there stood the local guards with the healer hiding behind them.
Healer: “THERE SHE IS THE ONE WHO HID THE HUMAN AND THREATENED ME!”
Riley: “YOU MOTHER #$%&*@ RABBIT!!! YOU BETRAYED US!”
At that moment Riley released a killing intent that caused the guards to step back and freeze up while the Healer shrieked and fell backwards.
But as expected from the captain of the guards he stepped forward and grabbed Riley’s arm
Guard Captain: “Ma’am if you would come with us fer some questioning that would be great otherwise we will be forced to use force.”
Riley glared daggers at the Captain causing him to go pale a bit.
Riley: “At least take this medicine that I literally rode my @## off for to John the human.”
After making that request Riley handed the severed Deryun claw to the Healer who was given permission by the Captain to heal John.
Riley was then led into a guard house on the opposite end of the town from the prison where John was being held.
Guard 1: “hey captain what should we do with the lass?”
Guard Captain: “We keep er ere under the pretense of questioning, then once we got the information we need we turn er and the human into slaves and sell them off we’ll be set for the rest of our life’s and it’ll get us far more money than arassing these villagers.”
Guard 1: “Heh that’s genius I guess that’s why you’re the captain.”
Guard Captain: “Now once that Ealer gets back we kill I’m and turn the lass into a slave got it?”
Guard 1: “Yessir I got it.”
After a couple hours passed the healer returned to the guard house looking haggard.
Healer: “That was really tough he was really close to death I stopped the poison. As for the wound itself I did the best I could but he won’t be able to move too much.”
Guard Captain: “My thanks ealer you made our job easier.”
Right after saying that the Captain made a signal to the other guard who walked up behind the healer and slit his throat as the healer dropped onto the ground spraying blood everywhere Riley sharpened her gaze and glared at the “Guards”
Riley: “Corrupt guards huh.”

Guard Captain: “Ey now missy we’re just doin our best tah make a livin”
Guard: “Hey now he assisted a prisoner what were we supposed to do?”
As the guards said that they slowly approached Riley with grins on their face.
Riley: “So what do you want with me and John?”
Guard Captain: “We jest want you and th’ boy to become slaves and make us a pretty penny.”
The Guard then put shackles on Riley and placed her in a cell, however both the Guard and Guard Captain were extremely unnerved by her calm demeanor.
Riley then let out a loud laugh and released a killing intent 10 times stronger than the one she used against the guards at first.
Riley: “You really think you can make us prisoners huh? HEH well looks like you're about to get yer @## handed to you.”
Right as she finished saying that she glowed blue and snapped the shackles off as if they were made of dirt.
Guard Captain: “Now, now let’s not get asty bout this yer friend is still captive.”
Right as the Captain finished saying that a massive explosion occurred at the other end of the town lighting up the night sky as a gigantic fireball rose up into the air.
Riley: “John you overdid it you idiot.”
Riley then looked at the guards cracking her knuckles.
Riley: “OK so looks like I only need one of you guys right?”
After Riley finished saying that both of the guards drew their weapons shakily and pointed them at her, Riley then rushed up to the Guard and punched him in the chest. To the horror of the Guard Captain his accomplices chest got blown apart leaving only his lower torso.
Riley: “HEH, you guys sure are weak for being “guards” looks like this’ll be easier than I thought.”
She then performed a spin kick that broke both of the Guard Captain's legs causing him to collapse in pain.
Riley: “This is for trying to make me a slave.”
As she said that she kicked the guards face causing him to spin into the air with his broken legs acting as a sort of macabre propeller sending him into the wall of the guard house unconscious and badly injured but still alive.
Riley then started heading off towards the giant pillar of smoke left by the fireball.
———————————————————————————————————————
Earlier
———————————————————————————————————————
John was laying on the ground of his cell fading in and out of consciousness. The next thing he knew the Rabbit doctor from earlier was grinding up what seemed to be a claw from the Deryun into a powder. Once he finished he removed
John’s bandages and poured the powder into the wound.
John then experienced an incredibly sharp pain akin to accidentally getting lemon juice into a cut except for the fact that said cut ran across his entire chest.
John: “GHEEAAK DAMN THAT BURNS LIKE HELL!!”
Right after yelling that the Rabbit Healer restrained John by placing his hands on either side of John’s chest, the Healer’s hand became covered in a white light and Johns wound began to itch and a feeling akin to a thousand ants crawling under his skin appeared as John’s wound started growing back together.
The healer then wrapped John’s chest in new bandages and left without saying a word.
John then observed the two guards go back to their posts, as John had no clue why he was in the prison he had to figure out some way of escape and some way to signal Riley assuming she was nearby.
And at that moment a crazy and insane idea formed in John’s head, it was an idea that was probably incredibly stupid but John decided to make full use of the title Riley had given him.
John: ‘OK so let’s see Air is composed of Nitrogen, Oxygen, Carbon Dioxide, and Methane, if I remember correctly pure Nitrogen is explosive and pure Oxygen is incredibly flammable let’s see what I can do about this.’
Right as John finished formulating his plan he attempted to use his extraction magic to make the air pure Nitrogen and Oxygen, the instant he poured his magic into the task it drained at an incredible rate. If not for his now boosted mana he would have blacked out instantly from the drain.
John then, to the surprise of the guards, placed his hands on the bars and fused them into a wall of metal and stone. As the guards started to bang on the wall, John used his Remote Manipulation magic to speed up the movement of the Oxygen molecules however the effort required to do this was insane; it immediately drained John’s magic to dangerous levels however the results were successful.
In the next instant a defining explosion rang through John’s ears as the wall in front of him bent inward knocking the stone out of place .If John hadn’t have reinforced the wall with the metal from the prison bars it would have been completely blown apart.
John: “Oh $%*# I think I overdid that.”
John muttered to himself as he crawled back to his feet, he looked towards the barrier that had just saved his life and noticed that the metal was cherry red. A sign that the flames had been hot enough to melt metal. John then realized he had just incinerated every single one of the guards in this building, if it even was still a building.
After waiting for a couple minutes John slowly approached the wall which had cooled substantially and opened a passage.
The scene before him was horrifying all that was left of the guards that were standing outside of John’s cell were scattered bits of armor and charred body parts scattered about. John shook his head to clear it. He inhaled and started choking which in turn opened his wound.
As John realized being here for too long would kill him he began sprinting for the nearest stairway, as he rushed up the stairs he entered an area covered in wreckage and black smoke.
John’s vision was now severely impaired by the smoke causing him to have to run blindly through the wreckage.
He reached what he assumed used to be the entrance, he tripped over something and tore his wound open even further.
John looked at what he had just tripped over only to find out much to his horror that it was a charred corpse of one of the guards.
John managed to crawl away from the rest of the smoke and wreckage, he rolled onto his back and as he inhaled the fresh air he let out a deep sigh.
John: “I hope Riley saw that… heh, Hell I don’t know anyone who would have missed that, man I thought I would feel worse about killing but I guess I’m just too tired right now.”
Then John slowly sat up and looked out towards the town and noticed a slight commotion in the distance and as the strength left his arms he collapsed backwards and layed back down staring at the pillar of smoke.
—————————————————————————————————————
Riley, after taking care of the Guard Captain, started heading towards the giant pillar of black smoke, however the remaining guards seemed to have had other plans for her.
The first last of the guards consisted of 5 guards who were heading back towards the guard house. They witnessed
Riley killing off one of the guards and kicking the captain into a wall, this of course enraged them.
Riley: “Oh great more of these guys, look I’ll give you #$%$#[email protected] 10 seconds to run away if you couldn’t tell I’m in a bit of a hurry…”
Guard 2: “Alright we’re not taking this from some lass. Let’s get er boys!”
Riley then proceeded to glow a dark blue and released a killing intent that caused two of the guards to pass out. The remaining guards were realizing their mistake just a bit too late.
Riley kicked off the ground flipping over and performing an amazing drop kick right on top of the first guard’s head causing it to splatter and split part of his upper body apart. Riley then used her momentum to right herself and threw a throwing knife into the guard on her left due to the amount of power she currently had the throwing knife sliced right through the guard and embedded itself into the ground behind the guard, as for the guard in question he fell onto his knees, blood spraying out of his torso, he then fell onto his face in a pool of his own blood.
The remaining guard, after having witnessed his companions die in such a graphic and quick manner dropped his weapon and started shaking.
Riley having no time to deal with him gave him a quick punch to his core which caused his body to fold into a > shape as he flew into a nearby house.
As Riley ran towards the pillar of smoke she noticed a figure lying right in front of the pillar, immediately assuming it was John, Riley deactivated her magic and sprinted towards him.
Once Riley got closer she confirmed that the figure was indeed John due to the red stained bandages across his chest.
Riley: “HEY YOU IDIOT YOU OVERDID IT!”
John: “Gah loud as always Riley.”
Riley walked up to John after yelling at him and helped him up to his feet.
Riley: “So what the hell even was that?”
John: “An experiment using the new magic I learned.”
Riley: “Mmh well I’m assuming you’ll explain it to me fully later.”
John: “Only if you tell me how the heck I ended up in a prison cell.”
Riley helped John back to the cart at the entrance of the town and after closing up John’s wound she attached the horses to her cart and jumped up onto the seat next to John.
Riley: “Alright John I healed up your wound as much as possible it’s closed right now but you should still refrain from doing too much thankfully we’re going to be on the road for a good while as I said the nearest town is about two weeks from where met you there are a couple villages on the way, as I am a merchant I need to stay close to my schedule for the sake of keeping those routes.”
John: “I gotcha once I get some rest I should be able to do some interesting things with your materials, also I’m guessing we’re getting out of this town as fast as possible after Razing Hell like that, right?”
Riley: “Right having to explain this to the lord of this village would be a HUGE pain so we’re leaving as fast as possible, like at the crack of dawn.”
Riley then crawled into the back of the wagon, removed her tent, and set it up next to the cart in order to sleep while
John simply crawled onto a pile of furs and dropped off into sleep.
And on that black night Riley and John had almost completely destroyed a village in order to get back together.
HOLY CRAP I'M ALIVE!!!!! hey guys Aaron here sorry for the delay i got Strep throat and a head cold so after fighting through that and finishing off homework and losing sleep IT'S FINISHED Time: 4:35am goodthing it's a weekend amirite *coughs up blood* anyways thank you all SOOO much for reading PLEASE COMMENT!! your comments drive me lol even if it's just HELLO or GOOD JOB it's a huge motivator. also real life stuff aside NO John has not just developed an OP ability to use forever causing massive fireballs everywhere let's be honest making an explosion like that without a barrier would be suicide not to mention the fact that his mana will be gone. once again thank you for reading and look forward to the next chapter!

Dungeon Core Chat Room.
This is a slower-paced "experiment and dungeon building" web novel that tries to use the idea of peer-to-peer communication with Dungeon Cores instead of Dungeon to slave monster communication to break up the detailed dungeon building. Rank 1 description: (minimum met for system initialization...detailed description as follows) Each race was given a system by the gods to make up for their shortcomings and balance their place in this world. Humans: Abysmally bad at understanding and using magic unable to use more than the lowest of magic were given the "Skill System" magic in the form of premade skills with use, study, and mastery tied to experience. Elves: Intuitively understand magic and have long lives leading to vast knowledge and skill in their chosen fields. However, as a species, they have nearly zero sex drive and less than low fertility, so they were gifted the "World Tree System" with experience gained through the care of natural areas – gifting the chance of children to increase their numbers without dirty copulation. All “natural” or “wild” monsters are given an "Evolution system" designed around killing and consuming as many creatures as possible, slowly increasing strength and, at thresholds, allowing mutations to alter them multiple times. Dungeon cores are different. Unlike humans, they can see, manipulate and live off mana. Unlike Elves, they naturally crystallize after extended periods of time in high mana level areas. However, they cannot easily move or communicate and typically go insane without companionship. As a species other than the odd eccentric they are unimaginative. Brute forcing solutions without the drive to truly innovate. Thus they have been gifted with the "Dungeon Connection System" a magical version of the internet accessible by their peers that allows them to barter and sell: bait, traps, monsters, and knowledge, as well as entertain each other with “adventure streams” using exciting recorded battles and humorous reels of arrogant chumps biting off more than they can chew to often fatal effects. This is the casual story of a dungeon unluckily spawned far from potential adventurers forced to innovate beyond its peers to find its place in this world. Rank 2 Description: Justification. I've been on a dungeon core kick for months and while I love the genre – it's sparse with entries. Often the forced conflict gets repetitive and frantic solving of threats "power levels" the protagonist to god levels to progress the plot – taking away the nice steady progression fantasy I'm looking for. (Progression in this story is linked to how strong of monsters/traps/whatever he can create not his "level"...this is demonstrated by some of his newer monsters beating his older monsters not with discrete "this monster has 10 attack this one has 40") Additionally, the focus on 3rd parties with their drama takes away from the reason I’m reading dungeon core novels in the first place – I'm looking for magical crafting, experimentation and kingdom building – not defence from higher and higher levelled enemies looking to steal/destroy/control the MC. This novel is kind of just me writing the story I wish I could read. I like thinking about the experimentation that can be done in fantasy settings using 'mana' as an excuse to make up rules and try to keep them internally consistent. IE once I define how a rule works, I'm going to commit to keeping it – no breaking hard truths I've given when it's convenient, even if it backs me into a corner. Hopefully, that should make the story interesting to read even if it's SOL and less action-oriented. There will be problems to solve and a clear progression in strength (of created monsters and knowledge) however due to not wanting to force conflict for the sake of conflict the general theme will be closer to slice of life with few action sequences and no overarching goal so please keep that in mind when picking this up as the genre is not for everyone. Finally, I have a clear goal of what I want from this story (not an endless romp but a series of arcs and then a conclusion that's a couple of dozen medium-sized chapters long) I want to commit to finishing it or at least bringing it to a point of rest. I hate all the engaging stories that stop with a “hiatus” indefinitely so in the event I lose motivation I'll work to end this even if the ending becomes rushed/unsatisfying just to give a sense of closure. I’m planning on including several polls in terms of direction and taking feedback heavily into account if I get enough readers (but may choose to ignore it if it deviates too far from the direction I want to take this as in feedback like: “The MC needs a cartoonishly evil arch-enemy that wants to enslave him and force the mc to pump out magic items” or “the MC needs to make a body and learn teleportation then live with humans” will get shot down without consideration.)
