Chapter 10: I will kill you!
He looked up as his mother was laying on the ground lifelessly. She didn’t make so much as a cry for help as the man’s foot continued to stomp down upon her. Kalon watched on with tears in his eyes as his mother’s face quickly turned blue. ‘Mom… What did we do to deserve this? Why are they doing this to us?’ He thought to himself as his whole body began to shake.
He had never been this helpless in his whole life and it was starting to show. His whole body began to shake in anger. He felt frustrated. Frustrated at his father for letting something like this happen and frustrated at the guards for not being able to protect them. But most importantly, he was frustrated at himself for being so weak.
“Help! Someone, please help!” Kalon yelled out as loud as he could, praying that someone would answer his cries for help. The sensation of pain that he felt from the vicious attacks had all but faded and the only thing that he felt now was helplessness. There was nothing he could do.
‘Is it really all my fault? If I could have been born a vampire, like Octavian then this wouldn’t be happening to me. If I didn’t disobey fathers orders in the past then he wouldn’t have kicked us out of the palace and this wouldn’t be happening right now… If only I wasn’t so weak… I would be able to fight back.’ Kalon thought to himself as the tears sped up and were now pouring out of his eyes like a river flowing down his cheek.
“Hahaha, You think somebody will come to help you out here? The only people who would even try to help you are the guards that want to get on the king's good side.
Honestly, I don’t understand what he sees in you. Apparently, he is still holding out hope that you might awaken powers and become a vampire… But that is just a rumour. I think the real reason he is keeping you here is for your brothers coming of age ceremony where he will have to drain all of the blood from a human.” The man who was kicking Kalon’s mother stopped what he was doing and laughed at his pitiful cry for help.
“Hey, bitch. Look, your son is begging for help already.” The man rolled Michaela on to her side by pushing her with his foot on her shoulder.
As she rolled over to face Kalon her eyes opened slightly and he could see the blood that had begun to fall from her nose and lips. She had been kicked so hard that one of her internal organs was probably damaged and led to her coughing up blood. Her face was pale but had a hint of blue to it from both the cold and lack of oxygen as she was struggling to breathe.

“Mom…” Kalon whispered out before the man’s foot stomped down on one of her legs.
A snapping sound sounded out as the bone in her thigh-split completely in two under the force from the man’s foot.
“AGHHH!” Michaela screamed out in pain.
Kalon on the other hand began to feel a burning sensation in his stomach that quickly ran around his body until the only thing he could feel was the heat within his body. He took a deep breath of the cold night's air which felt as though he had inhaled a mouthful of snow and only added to the pain he was feeling.
“I will kill you! Take your foot away from my mother! I will fucking kill you!” Kalon erupted into a fit of rage and began to dig his fingers into the slightly damp soil beneath him. He began to claw at the dirt like a rabid animal that was out for blood. But the weight of the man that was holding him down was enough to hold him completely still.
No matter how much he clawed at the ground he couldn’t move. He bit down on his lip as he struggled to move and reopened the wound that he had received from the boys in the town. Blood trickled down his chin once again before dropping down into the soil.
“Hahaha! Did you hear him? He’s going to kill me.” The slightly thinner man that was standing over Michaela laughed once more before walking over to Kalon who was lying with his stomach against the ground. He crouched down Kalon and then got close to his ear.
“And how do you expect to kill me from down there? You can’t even move, let alone kill anyone.” The man whispered before standing back and putting his hand on the bigger man’s shoulder.
“Let him go.” The skinner man said in a cold tone.
“No, I don’t want to be held responsible for your stupid games. Do I have to remind you that this was a direct order from the K-” The larger of the two men stopped himself just in time before revealing to Kalon who was behind this.
“It’s fine. If anything happens then you have my word that I will take the punishment myself. I will make sure that everyone knows that you had nothing to do with this.” The skinnier man said with a smirk.
“Ah, Fine whatever.” The larger man sighed and then took his foot off of Kalon’s back.
Before any of them could react, Kalon had already gotten to his feet and charged towards the man that was previously kicking his mother with his arms outstretched.
“I will kill you!” Kalon yelled once more as he ran towards the man. He dug his feet into the ground and used every ounce of strength to drive his body forwards. He wound his arm back behind his head as he got close to the man and then began to push it forward again with his hand squeezed tightly into a fist.

THUD!
Before he knew what had happened, Kalon felt the cold, wet ground beneath him once again as his head smacked against the soil. He was so desperate to kill the man that he had rushed towards him blindly without so much as knowing the slightest thing about him.
He looked up at the man who was still standing in the same spot as before but this time with a grin compressing his lips together. Now that he was a little bit closer, Kalon noticed the cat-like ears upon his head that were yellow in colour and speckled with black dots.
‘He’s from the leopard clan? There's no way I will be able to fight against him. They’re the third-fastest race of the entire empire. There's no way I will be able to hit him.’ Kalon thought to himself in defeat. There was no way that he was going to be able to actually kill somebody that he couldn’t even hit unless he had something that would level the playing field.
As he thought about it he looked over at the ground behind the two men where the sword that he had with him had flown out of his hands and landed after taking their initial attack.
The blade to the sword was only slightly visible since the hilt was facing him.
‘That’s it. If I could just get to-’ Kalon thought to himself before the man spoke once again.
“Oh, You want to use a sword against me? That’s pretty dangerous you know? What if somebody got seriously hurt?” The man laughed and then walked over to the sword that Kalon was previously staring at intensely.
“Well then… If you are really sure about it then I guess we can play a little more. Here you go.” The from the leopard clan said before throwing the sword over to Kalon. He then reached down to his side before drawing a sword of his own.
Kalon gulped upon seeing the shine from his blade.
Master Ranwald had attacked him with real swords before but this was a lot different. Kalon trusted that Ranwald wouldn’t try to kill him and he never used his full strength despite saying that he would.
Kalon had no trust in the man from the leopard clan and thought that he might actually be killed by him. Now that he had a weapon in his hand the only thing he felt was fear. But despite that fact, the hatred had already been engraved into his heart. If he couldn’t overcome a little bit of fear then he had no chance of becoming strong.
Kalon picked up the sword and rushed in as fast as he could. As he did so he saw a flash in the air as the man moved the blade of his own sword and tit down towards Kalon’s chest.
All of the practice that he had in swordsmanship with Ranwald came to mind. ‘How do I block a slash?… That’s right, I have to put the left blade in front of the right…’ Kalon thought to himself before realising that he only had one sword.
“Crap.” He thought before turning the tip of his sword to face the leopard man and driving his feet into the ground.
A hot feeling emerged from Kalon’s chest as the blade tore its way through his flesh.
“Aghh!” He cried out in pain before falling to his knees.
“Look what you’ve done now! How are we going to explain this?” The bigger man shouted in disbelief. He had stepped aside to let the leopard man have a little bit of fun but he didn’t expect that he would go this far.
“It’s fine. I will just say that he pulled a sword on me first and then-” The leopard man turned back to the larger man and said. But before he could finish what he was saying Kalon had rushed to his feet once again and thrust his sword through his chest.
Blood ran down the blade towards Kalon’s hands and painted his fingers red. He then looked back up at the leopard man who was still standing.
“You’ve gone and done it now kid. Even I won’t be able to stop him from killing you.” The larger of the two men said with a sigh. Before the leopard man began to chuckle to himself.
“A sneak attack? I didn’t expect that…” The leopard man began to say and then turned his head to look at Kalon.
“I will fucking kill you!” Kalon shouted again upon seeing the smile on the leopard man’s face and then twisted his arms back and forth while pushing the blade further into the leopard man’s body.
“Agh! Wait!-” The Leopard man seemed surprised by Kalon’s determination and the blade of his sword quickly ripped a hole through the man’s chest. He fell to his knees as more blood began to flow from his body.
Kalon quickly pulled out the sword and then stabbed him in the chest once again.
“Die! Die! Die you piece of shit!” He yelled over and over as he continued to stab the leopard man until he felt all of the air escape his lungs once again and he was sent flying in the air before crashing through the wall of his house this time and landing back inside.

Conquest Of Mortem
*NOTE* This novel is a war of attrition. To say anything less is a disservice to its demand. While comparable to other such works as Ulysses or Moby Dick, each sentence in Conquest is an enemy to be tackled. Not in the ways of difficulty but in absurd density that wishes nothing more than to destroy what patience you may have. Do not tackle chapters as you would ordinary chapters in an ordinary book. Tackle each chapter as a book unto itself. A foe to be vanquished, a period of life to leave behind. Seek to be master of this work. Seek to overcome. For in its design is the willpower, and the perseverance, and the strength of someone who sought meaning in struggle. As I discovered these in times of ultimate desperation, so I hope for you to discover these things. This novel is a love letter to your trials. May you overcome them. May you master them. May you become conquerer.- SeedSagaA literary epic for logophiles, philosophers, and poets alike. A journey into zeitgeist, the impact of media on culture, and the endurance of morality against an onslaught of hatred. These vague descriptions do little to compact Conquest's density into a bite-size summary. They do however relate the basest themes found within. A plot, if such can be surmised, is strung thinly across multiple perspectives, weaving together these concepts into a seemingly distorted tapestry of indecipherable events. Inspired by early 20th century modernism, Conquest will challenge the reader, and provide critique on the medium upon which all great stories are derived. Further interpretation is up to you now; an explorer among a sea of words. Venture on and discover what lies ahead, in...CONQUEST OF MORTEM
