《Travel Through The Lands》Chapter 11. Sleep.

"She was poisoned!" The doctor declared loudly.
The courtyard fell into silence...
"Whooosh" the king appeared in front of Sophies body and yelled:
"WHO? WHO POISONED HER? BRING ME EVERYONE WHO HAD CONTACT WITH HER WITHIN THE LAST 12 HOURS!"
Men in silver armour stormed out from the castle after the king's order and begun rounding people up.
Within moments there were 23 people lined up before the king, each bowing as low as they possibly could.
The king looked at the knights and asked,
"Is this everyone?"
"Yes, your majesty!" the knights replied in unison.
The king glanced at his son, Lief who was in a daze.
--
Lief was extremely confused at this moment, thousands of thoughts whizzed through his mind.
'Why would someone kill Sophie? I hadn't spent much time with her but I have been around her long enough to know she wasn't a bad person...'
Lief simply couldn't wrap his head around the agenda of the killer. Why?
Lief heard his father giving orders whilst he was thinking. The king also started using a spell called "Seeker" this was quite an uncommon spell, it was often thought of as a spell that would follow someone but in reality in searched through people's memory.
The spell isn't passed around much and is banned in several kingdoms as there is a 1/1000 chance of an error where the spell will actually reverse the brains age. This results in a grown man/woman with the brain of a child.
The king patiently placed his hand on each of the 23 people's heads. There were 18 women and only 5 men.
After several minutes, the king finally passed the 22nd person. There was only one left. A woman, she seemed to be around 30 years old, she had only been around Sophie for a moment.

She had only passed her on the street yet she was still brought in front of the king today. Who would have thought that something as simple as waving would bring her into such a dangerous situation?
The king placed his hand on his blade that was on his right hip as he placed his hand on her head. He couldn't have her running away after he found out she was the killer, could he?
However, shock flashed through the king's eyes. Hadn't this woman poisoned Sophie either?
"Are you sure this is everyone that had been in contact with Sophie?" The king asked one of the knights.
"Yes sir, we are one hundred percent on this. The only other people that have been near Sophie was you and Lief." The knight replied whilst on one knee.
"I don't understand..." The king muttered.
--
At this moment Lief was staring off into space whilst thinking about what happened.
*Tap*
Lief felt someone tap his shoulder so he turned around. However, as he turned around the priest was pale with his eyes wide and staggering back yelling "DEMON!"
Everyone in the courtyard immediately looked at the priest as if he had gone mad. The prince, a demon? Hardly.
Lief also looked at the priest as if he was mad, but then he felt the wind on his bare shoulder.
Glancing at his shoulder he saw that the suit he was wearing now had a hole the size of a hand!
His eyes drifted back towards the priest hand that had touched his shoulder to Liefs astonishment, the old man's hand was turning black and cracking!
The old Preist shrieked whilst waving his arm around and yelling "Demon! demon! Hellspawn!"
It was spreading, the old priest's skin was starting to turn into what looked like charcoal!

It started spreading slow but the speed was picking up, everyone watched in terror as it happened.
The disease spread up his arm and even into his white gown! His clothing barely lasted a second before it turned into dust.
Revealing the old man's body, not one person glanced at his body, though, everyone was watching the disease pick up in speed and spread to his torso, legs and finally his head.
The man's arm didn't last through this process, no, it cracked into little pieces before falling onto the floor and shattering into tiny pieces, fading along with the wind.
It hardly took 20 seconds before the man's body completely cracked into tiny little pieces.
Everyone in the audience, the noble's, the knights, Liefs friends and even Lief's sister took several steps back.
The king was the only one to step forward,
"Son... What did you do to Priest Jefferson?"
Lief stared blankly at the charcoal like corpse on the floor before replying " I... I didn't do anything... He patted me on the shoulder before, before this happened..."
"Son, for right now please make your way towards the hospital, it may not have been Sophie who was poisoned, it may have been you..."
The king whispered to Lief before facing the audience and speaking with a heavy voice
.
"Please don't worry. We will find the one responsible, please stay behind so that we can check what you have done in the past week. Failure to stay behind will result in death, no excuses.
Lief nodded to his father before moving towards the edge of the stage.
However, before Lief took his second step he felt a crushing pain in his chest and collapsed to the ground groaning in pain!
The king rushed towards Lief before stopping several steps away from him and asking seriously "Is the poison acting up?"
Lief opened his mouth to say something but as he did the pain amplified by many times! "AARGH" Lief cried out in agony, clutching his chest in pain before finally passing out.
As Lief yelled everyone saw a strange black mist pour out of his mouth and soar into the sky.
Everyone cried out in horror as they saw a piece of the mist rush towards them, however, no one could outrun the mist.
Men, women, children, cats, dogs anything breathing ended up being a host to whatever the mist was.
10 seconds later...
*Thud, thud, thud" The king must have heard hundreds, if not thousands of those same sounds. People truly dropped like flies.
The animals went first, they went without much noise.
The children second, they went with painful screams, they echoed throughout the city.
The women followed the children, some cried, some screamed and others silently sobbed to themselves.
The men went last, some lined up their families and lay next to them, some went screaming and some even went drinking believe it or not.
The king watched his city die, he held his dying daughter as he watched all his friends die.
He felt truly useless, he couldn't save anyone. He couldn't save his daughter or even himself.
In his final moments, he lay next to his daughter, hand in hand and asked himself...
"Was I a good King?"

Essence Eater (A Super Progression Fantasy)
Gods. Demons. Aliens. Superheroes. Supervillains.Consume them all for power. Eighty years have passed since WW2, when Prime took to the skies and ended the war. No one knows what gave him his power, or what birthed the wave of supers that came after. Some claimed the nuclear bombs dropped in Japan cracked the barrier between Universes, allowing alien energies to enter the dimension. Others believed the wars finally triggered what humanity needed to reach a new stage of evolution. Daniel Das lives with his uncle in post-super London, the League of Hero's primary hub. He's spent all of his twenty-one years pushing himself, training in martial arts and studying supers, hoping he'll awaken his metagene and gain super powers. The cut-off age is close, but he hasn't yet awakened superpowers. Meanwhile, the League is steadily losing parts of the city to the growing villain factions. Daniel's uncle wishes to keep him away from the world of supers, but with the hot zones closing in, that's easier said than done. There are villains selling unregulated superpowers to gangs and dark days are on the horizon. Despite his limitations, there is no stopping Daniel. He is ravenous for power. If needed, he will ally with demons if they give him the power to protect his family and home. -------------------------------- This world building is heavily inspired by Worm and The Boys. It features dark, realistic storylines, corporation-funded heroes, and villains who aren't necessarily bad guys. The protagonist's powerset involves the crowd-favourite consuming enemies for power trope, too. The GameLit/LitRPG elements are super light and takes a while to kick in. The powercreep is slow as well since I don't enjoy overpowered protagonists. Chapters everyday until book 1 is complete. The schedule will change once I reach that point.

Luck And Chronomancy
Time Magic is the best magic as everyone knows, although there are lots of unique Talents in the world. Most people only remember Haste because it is hard to get to higher Phases of Chronomancy. That is still enough to make the Talent iconic. A lucky enough Aleatory Talent can position you for greatness or leave you languishing in obscurity. The only true equality in the world is when that glowing message pops up at 8 years old. Even if it doesn't activate until you are an adult at 16 you still know. Sure you can find a new dungeon spawn and get another chance at a rare Talent, even this one, but you have to already be ready to delve into the *Far Wilds*, which is far easier with wealth or family power. This is the story of where my good fortune took me and the difference it made, even among a party of 7 others including an Arcanist. It is a journey of magic and monsters but also math, which some think is actually worse. Luckily I was born with Intelligence and Focus as my personal traits, and my parents were scholars. Of course Chronomancy can also be a frontline combat talent. Versitility well beyond other Elder Talents like Gravity, Abstraction, or Arcana. Might could have worked for me, too. I also met a runaway princess. All the best adventures have a princess. She hated being a noble and we didn't get married but it still counts. Besides she really filled out our front line. All that Leadership training came in handy. I still don't know where she's from. Who cares? How well Haste goes with giant hammers is what's important. I never learned much about anyone in the party, except the one I grew up with. I'm not a people person. I just wanted to optimize dungeon clearing time. *******Story Details******* No romance, politics, or traumatizing content, slice of life, or even dialogue. 1st person narration, like a guide/adventure log. 2000-7000 words a day, maybe 40-60% rpgish combat log with some reasoning on combat decisions, with the rest character Talent discussion and progression stuff. 8 person party with a decent variety in roles. Party members usually have 2 primary functions. Told from the support/control Chronomancer's perspective. Each party member will have 6 Basic/Background Traits, then 3 actual Talents with abilities. Capstone from their Educational Institution, Arbritrary as a gift from the temples, and Aleatory which is decided at birth, revealed at 8, and activated after adulthood at 16. Aleatory Traits ignore requirements and are random why is why they are so important. They'll gain new Talents from finding Dungeons to consume in the *Wilds*. Mature dungeons in cities can provide *Challenges* to raise the Phase of a Talent, up to 3 times from 1 to 4. Each character will get to roughly 8 non-Trait Talents. Attributes come exclusive from Talents, are required by Talents, and provide various effects as well. I designed about 220 Talents with abilities, 4 in each of 4 phases. "Traits" are just Attribute stuff. I'm not sure how many will be detailed in the story, more than 100 for sure. I used Talents because I want to be free of the legacy of tabletop. Half those rules are just because of the limitations inherent in a pre-computer ttrpg. This story mostly uses combat Talents, although like 1/3 of the 220 are for crafting and other society and economy stuff. If you really wanted to be a Thief you might take Intuition, Awarness, and Might for Basic Traits and Deftness, Manipulation, and Trickery for Family/Education. Then you'd pick Acrobatics, and Climbing for Educational Capstone and Arbitrary traits. You Aleatory Trait might be Shadow(Light/Dark) Magic, Umbramancy. A Bard might swap Dexterity for Charisma, Music for Acrobatics, and have gotten Illusion(Shadow/Sound(Air/Force)) for their Aleatory Trait.

Conquest of Avalon
Revenge. The Kingdom of Avalon swept across the Empire of the Fox a generation past, conquering the heartlands and leaving the broken remnants to stew in the island duchy of Guerron. This isn't a story of Good versus Evil, of kindly kings doing their best to lift all subjects, or of unvarnished heroes doing battle against evil. Instead, this story is about power: who has it, who wants it, and what people will do to obtain it. It is about the violence inherent in the imperial project and how even the most well-intentioned rulers and conquerors are, still, engaging in systemic violence against those conquered and defeated. Our three point-of-view characters are a peasant turned fire wizard, an excitable duelist with more enthusiasm than sense, and a scheming mage-priestess bent on reclaiming her family's birthright and waging war on the foreign oppressors who rule her home... no matter the cost in blood or treasure.
