《A World Beyond》Chapter 9: You Don't Belong Here

“Huh?”, Owen scratched his head, “What do you mean?”
The child before Owen merely replied, “I already killed the enemy.”
Owen laughed wearily, “Oh you already hit it? Let me see then...”
Owen looked around at the field, but no matter how hard he looked he couldn’t figure out which scarecrow the kid hit. There were several children standing in front of the scarecrows they were going to attack or have already attacked. And it surely wasn’t any of the burning or frozen scarecrows since he didn’t feel a sudden change in temperature or even a powerful gust of wind. He didn’t even hear the loud bang.
He turned to the child once more and asked, “Uh, which one did you attack?”
The child pointed his finger to the space several scarecrows to the right of the one Hiro struck. Owen walked over to the scarecrows, and looked around before asking, “Did you strike the right one or the left one?”
The child shook his head, “The one in between them.”
“What?”, he scratched the back of his head and turned to one of the Knights standing guard, “Did someone take the scarecrow over here before we could exam it?”
One of the guards replied, “No sir!”
“Huh, that’s odd…” , Owen turned to the kid and asked, “Yo kid, my bad, but can you hit another one? If you need time to recover I can postpone the test until tomorrow.”
However, the child merely shook his head. He slowly walked up to one of the scarecrows and pulled out a small dagger hidden in his clothes. As he stood in front of the scarecrow that was slightly taller than him, he casually stabbed the scarecrow in the chest and it turned a pitch black.
As he removed the dagger, the Scarecrow began to fall apart and as the wind hit the scarecrow it would just turn into a black powder and fly away. Owen to stared at the child in shock, his motion was so casual, he barely noticed him use any mana, and the result was absolutely devastating. But that wasn’t the only thing that shocked him…
Owen turned to the principal, but before he could say anything the principal raised his hand motioning him to stay quiet. The principal walked up to the child and asked, “Tell me, child, what’s your name.”

The child looked up and replied, “Mors.”
The principal smiled as a faint light began to gather around him and Mors, “I see Moors, why do you want to be a magic knight. For you parents? For yourself? It’s alright you can be honest with me.”
Mors paused, and faint black aura surrounded him, “To kill...for revenge. He said if I came here, I’d be able to accomplish my goal.”
The principal paused, before asking, “Mors under normal circumstances I wouldn’t let you enter the magic knight division or even the school. You understand what you just did right?”
Mors nodded his head, and the principal continued, “But if you promise me one thing I can let bygones be bygones. Never use that spell ever again. Never use any spells like it ever again. We will teach you how to fight, you can get your revenge, but if you ever use that spell then there’s no room for you here. Am I clear?”
Mors nodded, and the principal pulled out a scroll. He quickly opened it and threw it into the air causing it to turn into a fiery bird that formed a red bracelet with a golden ring around Mor's hand.
Mors looked at the bracelet, before turning around and heading back to the east side of campus.
Owen turned to the Principal with a worried look, but the principal merely shook his head. He walked back to the two other Headmasters and teleported away to observe from a distance. Miss Campbell asked, “The Black Mist?”
And the principal nodded his head, “Stay on your toes, we don’t know if we can trust him, but if we give him time to mature he will be a great asset to our country.”
The bulky Knight Albert nodded his head, “Holstein’s brat is here as well.”
The principal laughed, “We sure have an exceptional group this year, and perhaps just as many troublemakers…”

Hiro laid down on his bed, he looked around his room and was surprised at how large it was. Or rather, he questioned how it was capable of even being this large. When he was walking through the hallway the doors were all spaced relatively close to each other, yet the door to his room was at the center.
But when he looked to the left and to the right there was just far too much space, especially with all the furniture. Hiro couldn’t help but wonder how they managed to accomplish this.

He stood back up and walked over to the large wooden dresser and his room, and as he opened it along with several other drawers he found that someone had already folded and organized his clothes. He looked around, and he even spotted several empty suitcases tucked into a corner of the room.
When he turned around, he also noticed that other necessities such as books were already on his desk, and there were also several sets of uniforms neatly stack on top of each other on a chair.
The room was even stocked with weapons hanging or leaning on the walls: there were axes, spears, swords, and even bows and staves. As Hiro looked up at the shelves there was also a wide array of plants beside a small collection of bottle bottles filled with liquids of varying colors. There were also some small jars filled with pellets.
But other than how unnaturally large the room was, something else was on Hiro’s mind. Just what is Qi? He didn’t quite understand, why would the south change their system of magic? Had it always been like this?
Hiro raised his hand and began to slowly absorb the mana in the air into his arm. However, as he remained like this for several minutes he frowned and threw a quick jab into the air.
Hiro sighed, “There’s no difference…”
He shook his head, to begin with, while Humans could use mana they were not counted among the species considered to be inherently magical in nature. Some of the species that were inherently magical in nature included the likes of Elves, the Demonic Tribes, Dragons, and several other magical beasts.
Part of the reason behind this was simply that Human flesh was unfit to store mana. The only part of a Human that could store mana was the ephemeral soul, and it was for this reason that all life forms could to some capacity sense and use mana. While the magical races on the other hand like Elves and the Demonic Tribes had relatively unique constitutions.
The Elves, for example, were a race blessed with extraordinary senses. Their eyes, ears, and tongues were inherently magical allowing them to see the world like few others. As for the Demonic Tribes, each of the tribes possessed a myriad of unique features that manifested themselves as tails, horns, or even wings. Sometimes their unique feature would even manifest itself as an entirely new organ or its properties would reveal itself on already existing limbs, but regardless of what it was, it had the inherent property to store mana.
As for Dragon they were the world's apex predator and were widely considered to be one of the most powerful magical creatures in existence as nearly every part of a Dragon was magical in nature. Legend even stated that Dragons were born from the very source of the world's mana, hence why these sources were referred to as dragon veins.
So it simply didn’t make sense, why would one continue to absorb mana into their flesh and bones if it were so ineffective. In theory, over years Humans could heighten the strength of their flesh and bones to that of a magical creatures. However, this would only be at the level of the weaker or the mid-level magical creatures.
And with a strong enough sword, and a bit of magic one could easily defeat such a beast. It simply wasn’t a practical approach. Plus as Hiro stated before, it would literally take years to reach that sort of level.
Hiro looked out the window, and thought to himself, “Perhaps I should have done more research while I was home…”
“No, kidding”
“!?”
Hiro looked around, but he couldn’t make out where that voice came from or where they were. He shouted, “Who are you! Where are you hiding!?”
The voice laughed, “Who am I? I should be asking that to you…”
Hiro frowned, “What do you mean?”
However, the voice merely laughed, “Don’t worry, it probably doesn’t matter to you either way. So don’t worry, be happy.”
Hiro’s body flashed with light as he clenched his fist, and the voice continued to laugh, “Oh how scary, but don’t worry I won’t hurt you I’m not so foolish as to do such a silly thing. But I really am curious how someone like you got here.”
Hiro repeated himself, “What do you mean…”
The voice’s laughing grew hysterical, “Ah, you really don’t know, do you! Well, all you really need to know is that...you don’t belong here.”

The Bronze Players of Recreation
The world of Creation has seen a recent explosion of what can only be called an adventurer’s culture over the past few decades. People who were once looked at as nothing more than lower class mercenaries rose to the ranks of heroes and legends as adventuring became recognized as an idealized lifestyle of overcoming hardship and finding triumph. With the establishment of a guild-based government system on the continent of Terramania, adventurers were soon legitimized and adventuring became a phenomenon universally accepted around the world. Redlette had retreated from this world to live on Earth for the remainder of her years, having been born and outcast by the gods of Creation. However, upon meeting a friend that she treasured dearly, she found herself longing for a return to her world—she wanted to experience it properly and go on adventures with someone whom she holds dear. Putting a plan into action, she meets with her friend, an awkward, nerdy boy by the username of Herring who she’d only known through years of playing online games with him, and invites him to go on this fantastic adventure with her. An adventure in another world had always been an impossible dream for Herring, but when he suddenly found himself with the opportunity to embark on one, he knew it wouldn’t be as simple as books and shows made it out to be. Redlette was notorious for rushing into things without thinking them through, and he was flighty and weak. In the games they played together, they rarely grasped victory. They were losers through and through, both in hobby and life. Despite this, though, he takes the leap and sets off with Redlette into the world of Creation. Together they only had one goal: to have fun and go on the adventure of their lives. This time, they’d establish a guild of their own and be free to take on whatever exploits their hearts desired. This is the story of the founding of their guild. Author’s Notes: -My writing style is largely based off of the absurd amount of light novels I’ve read and anime I’ve watched, so it may come off as cartoonish or exaggerative at times. If that isn’t your thing, I’d steer clear of this story.-Not an MMO story.-No numerical stats.-Relatively slow pacing.-Posts are between 2000-5000 words weekly after Chapter 1.
