《Progressive Detective the Q》Chapter 04

The sky was cloudy with hints of blue trying to break through. The city was quiet around morning hours. Hyde walked alone on the nearly empty streets of the city. Only the birds in the sky and his footsteps made sounds while he read a book about magic Yamiko had given him.
The first category of magic was called simple which was fire, wind, thunder, light and dark. Truly simple right? Those were the commonly used elements of that category and the magic people would bother to learn. The next category of magic was complex. This was quite the leap since an advanced category has yet to be made for various reasons. Complex magic normally is tough to learn since they're a combination of magic from simple.
For now Hyde only read about non magic. An element that was a lack of element thus it had little to no weaknesses and strengths. It was described as the contradiction to France grand magic theory, and for that reason, Hyde wanted to learn it.
“..!” Hyde was alerted by a sound approaching fast, rolling wheels about to crash. He hopped to the side to avoid someone on a skateboard. A small blonde girl landed after grinding on nearby rails but her foot slipped to the side and thus the smooth landing became a hard crash.
“Hey are you alrigh--”
The girl hopped back to her feet instantly, the adrenaline she felt made pain a joke. "Hey sis did you catch all that?!" The blonde exclaimed.
Hyde turned around to see another child. brown hair girl holding a camera.
"L-Lambda… we should go elsewhere."
Lambda picked up her skateboard "This place is too great to pass up!" Lambda looked at Hyde. "Come to watch my amazing skateboarding abilities?"
"I wouldn't call falling amazing. Besides that, are you even alright? That crash looked like it hurt real bad." Hyde questioned. "That outfit doesn't look safe either."
Lambda was wearing a maid outfit with shorts underneath the skirt and running shoes. Hyde was confused, who would have a child maid? Especially one that's reckless..?
Lambda nodded "I'm fine. I'm used to this stuff." She gave a hearty grin. One of her front teeth was missing. Not from age but from an earlier crash.
"So who's your er… owner?" Hyde asked.
"I'm my own maid! Hehe, I'm kidding. This is just a style I like." Lambda answered.
"Sister…"
"Right right Lan." Lambda struck a pose "My name is Lambda and I'm the extremist. Check out my video channel FRraiser! Anyway bye." Lambda waved as she left with Lan.
Hyde scratched the back of his head. What a weird girl… could she be apart of..?
No, she was way too young to be working for the agency.
Hyde closed his book and continued onwards to the Agency.

The entrance bell rang as Hyde entered the building. Midare looked up from her magazine and grew a wide smirk seeing the book in Hyde’s hand. “Studying magic? You know that’s banned right?”
Hyde walked over to the table she sat at unphased by the taunt thrown at him, “It was from Yamiko and magic isn’t banned.” he said while taking a seat.
“It might as well be.” Midare shrugged “Those regulations the TGA made make it hard to use. It would make our job soooo much easier. We don’t have the authority to use magic to our advantage.”
“It’s a fair balance if I do say so myself.” a man sitting near their table sipped his mug of coffee then placed it down. “The law would be much more brutal with your methods if the agency were authorized to use magic. Just look at Imperia, all the crime that happens there.”
Midare rolled her eyes, “And our masked criminal can use magic hurting more people than we do. How do you feel about that Hyde?”
Hyde shrugged “Dunno. So when do we start heading out?”
“Hmph! The world will go to ruin with youngsters like you not caring about the issues in society.” the man said to Hyde.
This made the boy frown, not because it made him upset but, “Whatever man."
Mary, Hoka and Mikael entered a bit after their brief talk with the customer. The two were rather surprised to see Hyde in the cafe so early.
“Keep up that pace and you’ll probably be the first of us to get a promotion.” Mikael dropped a sweat.
"As if. Now let's get down to business. Midare took out a folded paper from her pants pocket and pen. She unfolded the blank sheet and asked "Why do you want to join the agency? Is there more than just Yamiko telling you to?”
Hyde and Mikael’s reasons were shallow. They simply felt as if it was the right thing to do. Helping the detectives find criminals to bring them to justice. Hoka was more reluctant to join since she didn’t feel she had many combat capabilities. She wanted to help with anything that didn’t require her to be on the frontlines, especially since Soap was after her. Lastly Mary clearly had hidden reasons as to why she wanted to help. Stammering as she spoke,
“I-It’s the right thing to do! Y-yeah..”
Midare nodded while writing things down. “Interesting… One last time, lemme get your names."
“Hyde Tetsuya.” Hyde said bluntly.
“Mary Hitoshikawa.” She bowed.
“Mikael Tsuyoi.” Mikael tilted his cowboy hat.
“Sonohoka…” Hoka answered quietly.
With their names memorized, Midare had finished and allowed them to leave, free to spend the day as they pleased. They waved their goodbyes and left to return to the dormitory. Passing them was the feminine person who wore a kimono printed with lemons and black hair tied in a side ponytail. The feminine person smiled seeing the newcomers and approached Midare.

“So many fresh faces. This agency is a brilliant idea.”
Midare discontent was visible. The amount of people under this increasingly growing organization gave her a headache “I’m being handed members on a silver platter, Lemon."
Lemon chuckled at the remark “Have you made up your mind on my offer?”
Midare closed her eyes and let out a sigh, “Yes. I’ll allow the Blue Corps to assist us.”
“Splendid! This will be perfect for them to hone their skills.” Lemon shook Midare’s hand “They are in your care-- oh! And if Yuyucherry’s sister wants to join, please don’t turn her down.”
“Understood.”

The 4 members of the Blue Corps opened a door to enter a dusty room formerly used to house many of the detectives weapons. They were sent to clean up the room in order for it to be used as a storage room instead since the Tokyo Magic Government Agency had been keeping a close eye on the agency to keep them from using magic.
They would be dismantled if any of the members used magic. A harsh punishment but necessary as criminals were increasingly using magic to harm, and seeking to join Soap in his efforts to cause disorder.
The sun shining through the windows lit up the room and dust. A black haired girl with fox ears and 9 tails looked around the room full of boxes with swords, lances, empty guns and so on. The detectives were certainly armed to the teeth. Their outward appearance would have them seem like normal people...
"I figured they would use standard police pistols. But I guess since we're dealing with people using magic…" A boy with curly blonde hair and white rabbit ears said.
A brown haired boy with cat ears kneeled down to inspect a box stuffed with rusty swords and blades. "Yeah… Let's get this job done guys."
"Be careful Tangerine." A non rushè boy with slick brown hair warned. "The swords might end up cutting you."
"It's fine Cranberry. I'll use a barrier to keep the box from being cut open." Rine picked up the box with his hand lit up with a faint blue glow.
Cran pointed to a box with pistols, magazines, and other gun related things. "Yuyucherry, mind getting that? And Julius, There should be a broom in the other room."
The blonde haired rushè, Julius, was surprised to see Cranberry give commands, "Well you're a lot more talkative, Cran. Ever since we arrived in Japan from France."
Cran moved over to the nearby windows "It's a pleasant place. Besides, after our years of training, it's finally time we get to save the world."
Julius stepped aside to allow Rine to walk out of the room. "Hah, it's just a small job. We'll probably be heading back after we capture Soap."
"Let's enjoy our time here then. Jeez it's kinda stuffy in here" Cran slid opened one of the windows and turned back to face Julius. "Alright let's get to work."
Julius nodded and turned around to leave, coming to a quick stop when he saw Cherri place her hand on her sword's hilt. "Cherri..!"
Her yellow eyes darted to the window "I see it--"
A figure jumped in from the window, knocking Cran to the ground and dashed towards Cherri who drew her black longsword to block the attack. "S-Soap!"
Soap hopped back "Those eyes of yours are good but not good enough! Dark wave!" He swiped his dagger to the left which sent out a wave of darkness. To him it was visible but to the others it couldn't be seen. Julius quickly jumped out of the room while Cherri stood to take on the attack with her sword.
She blocked the magic attack that caused her to skid back a bit, much to Soap's surprise. "Tch! A special weapon." He dodged back from Cherri's counterattack and jumped back out the window.
"I'll go after him!"
"Don't! You're bleeding!" Cran exclaimed. Cherri looked at her hands which were cut from the dark magic attack. The pain didn't set in until now.
"A-ah..!" She dropped her sword staring down at her bleeding hands, cuts up to her wrists. The sword didn't fully block the magic attack, most likely due to its dark element.
Lemon rushed to the scene. "What's going on?" He questioned.
Julius nervously dropped a sweat "Soap ambushed us and used some dark spell that injured Cherri."
"Haha, It's n-nothing…" She winced. Lemon rubbed his chin "Magic huh…"
"Has he never used magic before?" Julius questioned.
"Not that I know of. Every encounter Midare had before with him, he made a clever escape." Lemon answered. "This is concerning. The Detective Agency will be at a major disadvantage now."
Julius frowned and brought up an idea. "Why don't we get authorized to use magic then? You said something about the TGA's regulations. Let's try to get permission from them."
Lemon wanted to shoot the idea down. Such a request would never be approved, especially because of Midare's involvement with the organization and her past. They all were out of ideas on what to do however so risks must be taken, even if it did seem impossible.
Lemon took the idea to Midare, planning to call the director of the TGA to have a meeting about magic and Soap.
